Sharing from imac to windows laptop

I have 2 canon printers first is i990 second is ip1000
they are both running in to the mac printing no problem
they are set to share out I have a windows xp laptop which finds the printer when I try to set it up but when I tell it to print it says its printing but nothing happens.

On OS X, a print queue (a printer in the printer list is a "queue") expects to receive postscript input. When you print from Windows, it doesn't send postscript. One way around this is to use a postscript driver on Windows. Choose Apple Color LaserWriter xx, for example. Then it will send postscript to the Mac where it will be translated for the printer.
A different approach is to create a "raw" queue on the Mac - a queue that does no translation and passes input to output. I have instructions if you want to try that. (That way you can use the real driver on the PC)

  • Networking from iMac to Windows laptops

I have an iMac and two Windows Vista laptops.
Before I installed Leopard I could see both laptops on my wireless network and get into both for transferring files etc. Now I cannot. I can sometimes (but not always) see the laptops in Finder- Network but even when I can I get a connection failed message when I try to go into either laptop. The Windows laptops are set for file sharing on both C and D drives but I have not done anything more - to individual files for example.

One question before I start please - what if the iMac and the PC's are not on the same sub net -
This means they are not on the same network, so will be difficult to share files.
how do I change one of them?
You might want to check that one of them hasn't (accidently) connected to a neighbour's wireless network.
If you are using DHCP to dynamically give each computer an IP address then they will both automatically be on the same subnet.

  • Cannot connect from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares

    Hi guys,
I am having dificulties connecting from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares.
First of all it takes so long time to discover the share in iMac, which it's called "mediaserver". After finding it i cannot connect and gives "Connection Failed: message. If i choose "Connect As.." option i wait some time and then pops out with an error: "There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
If i try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if i write the IP address, like: smb://192.168.1.42 it works after couple of tries. If i try now to Make an Alias for the share i get "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (eror code -8060)."
Has anyone experienced these problems ? I have updated to Mac OS X version 10.7.3. Could that be the problem ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Simi

You need to reinstall the updated WHS connector for Mac.  You should then be able to access your shares on WHS 2011.
The problem I'm having is I can't get Time Capsule to recognize the WHS 2011 mapped folders that show up on the desktop as a drive, so Backup won't work.

I would like to transfer my old copy of Photoshop Extended, from my old Windows laptop to the new Mac computer. Thank you

If your copy of PS was for Win, your installation disk is not compatible with Mac.  You can't use a Win serial number on Mac either.  You would need to contact Adobe Customer Care and request a cross grade.  Depending on which version you own, this may no longer be possible.  I believe CS6 still qualifies for cross grades though.
Another option is to join the Creative Cloud Photography Plan ($9.99/mo) which includes PS CC and Lightroom which will run on on both Mac & Win.

  • Problem sharing folders, imac to windows vista home premium over network

I can see my windows machine on my Mac but when I try to connect it take a while and gives me an error saying connection failed. On the windows laptop, I can see my mac, can open the icon but only see the printers I have shared on my Mac. I did check to make sure permissions and file sharing on both are setup. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple. I've read dozens of postings and I've followed them so I don't know what i'm doing wrong. Its weird that I can see both machines on each system but cannot access. Help please...thanks

Still having this issue, the windows machine shows up on my imac but it never connects. Also, I can see my mac on the windows machine but it only shows printers as shared.

  • IMac and Windows Laptop on the Same Wi-Fi Network?

First I just wanted to thank all those who replied to my previous (and first ever) post advising on the best way to set up a wireless home netwrok to share a DSL connection.
In the end I decided against buying an Apple AirPort base station, and bought a third party modem-router-wireless access point (a Speedtouch 580).
I set the 580 up to send the internet conncetion out on the Wi-Fi network, and was able to connect my Windows laptop (with a Speedtouch 110g wirelss card) to the Wi-Fi network and gain internet access no problem! I never thought it could be that easy, so was ecstatic! I even managed to have my Centrino laptop connect to the network and share the internet connection.
Then it came to my iMac G5 (I have AirPort Extreme built in). I turned the airport on and scanned for networks. When I first found my network I couldn't connect, so changed the router's security to WEP from WPA. Now, I still don't know how my iMac connected to the Wi-Fi network, but when I came back to it after having walked away in despair, it was simply connected!
My problem now is that I don't seem to be able to connect both a Windows PC and my Mac to the Wi-Fi network at the same time. Why might this be?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You have not configured your wireless router correctly.
Without seeing the configuration it is very difficult to ascertain what the specific problem might be.
    Reset the router and re-configure.
You need to configure your router to share a single IP address (NAT) in order to use your DSL connection with more than one client.

  • Can not login to file sharing from iMac

I have been trying to connect through the bluetooth feature to File Sharing from my iMac to my MacBook Pro.  I use the same password for login to my computers and for my File Sharing connections. For some unexplained reason; whatever password I enter when trying to connect from my iMac to the MacBook, it is rejected. I attempted to Change the Password. I entered what I have always used as my password and a new password. That was rejected. I assume because the "old password" was not recognized.
How do I go about establishing the correct password on my iMac to connect to my MacBook. I can log off my MacBook, and restart with that password; so I really don't understand what's going on.
    Please advise.

I read many threads about similar errors while connecting to BI Publisher I tried this:
    - Patch KB908002 (.Net for develosper) and didn't work
    - Patch KB907417 (office 2003 for client). Didn't work too.
I changed to a vitual machine with Windows XP and Office 2007. Everything is working just fine.
I think the problem with Publisher Desktop 10.1.3.2.1 (connection with BI Publisher) has to do with Windows Vista or Office 2003 (both installed on my pc). I'll install Office 2007 on Vista and see what happens.
    I'll post results.

  • X11 forwarding from mac to windows laptop doesn't work

    Hi,
I ssh into my mac computer from my windows laptop. However, the x11 forwarding is not working (ie, the x window is not forwarded to my laptop). I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the mac and not my laptop, because if I ssh into a unix machine the x window forwarding to my laptop works fine. Does anyone know how to get the x11 forwarding to work?
    thanks

What happens when you try to run them? Do you get any kind of error message? Have you tried just xterm?
Is it possible you have DISPLAY set to something on the Mac side?
Currently I am using putty to connect to the mac via ssh (and have the enable X windows forwarding box checked), and I have Xming running on my laptop to display the x windows. This setup works fine for connecting to unix machines, but it doesn't work for connecting to the mac.
Does the Mac have the firewall turned on?

  • Help! Just want to share DSL between new iMac & existing Windows laptop

I have existing laptop running on Windows XP, connected to a DSL modem via ethernet cable. The modem also has an additional USB slot.
I want to access the Internet from my new iMac G5, using the same DSL line, but not share anything (files, printer, etc) with the laptop (in other words, I have no desire to "network" with the laptop).
Can I just connect the iMac using the USB port? Also, do I need a router/firewall to make things easier/more secure?

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Theoretically you could connect to the modem via USB, but other than Alcatel, no other modem manufacturer supplies USB drivers for Mac, and even those Alcatel's are not that reliable.
Yes, a NetGear router would work. Pretty much any router, as networking and IP are platform independent and will work with any OS.
