Sharing from Mac mini to Mac Pro - need some help...

I have an external drive (USB) connected to my Mac Pro. The Mac mini is in another room set up on the network. And Alias of the USB external Drive is in my Shared Folder and the Mac Mini sees it. I initially had to do "CMND+K" and enter in the Mac Pro's IP. It connected fine, and I can access the files. But, when I sleep the mini, and then wake it up later, I have to go through the "CMND+K" routine again and relogin to the Pro. I have tried adding this login routine to be auto, but it doesn't seem to be working. I get an error couldn't mount the drive when the mini wakes up. Maybe I did it wrong? Thanks

Hi...my Mom gave my niece her MacBook but kept the power cord. I bought one on eBay for her and it was a 60W MagSafe cord. She seems to be having power issues where it goes into rest mode while working on it and then takes a day or so to recover. Apple store checked it clean and installed Snow Leapord. Is it possible that she needs an 80W cable..I am not sure of the power requirements. Thanks

Have you tried a known-good Apple adapter with the machine?
I'd replace the adapter with one from Apple and see if the troubles persist.

Hello, I also have a Sony Handycam; trying to download movies to the my Mac Book Pro 15" was very a very slow process but it is possible. Then I tried to download the movies into an external hard drive (my computer's memory got filled really fast) and from that just work from iMove but after searching through Sony's website I read it is necessary to acquire a transference cable to improve this process.

If there's no light from the optical i/o then there's no audio signal at all and explain why you have no sound. Make sure you check all the cable including the power cable that you need to connect to the card. Does your power on LED on the external i/o light up? If all power are proper and there's still no light from the optical i/o then probably you have a faulty i/o that need replace.

From Final Cut Express to iDVD--need some help

I've read through the past threads on this topic and I still can't seem to figure out what's going on.
I'm using the latest FCE and iDVD6. Here's what's going on:
Put in chapter markers like I should in FCE.
Export to Quicktime (not conversion) with all proper options selected.
Video becomes a .dv file (is that Quicktime?) that opens in QT but no chapter markers show up.
Then, I open iDVD and drag the file in, but here's the rub--WHERE DOES IT GO? If I select a theme and drop it in (not in drop zones) it's just a video floating around in the theme main page. No chapters show up in the submenus.
Am I supposed to drop it into a particular place in iDVD? Or do I import it, or go to "Media" and then "Movies" and select it from there? I need to know how to make my chapters show up and how to get the movie where it's supposed to g (like if I was importing from iMovie).
I know this is long, but please help!

Generally, I just drag the DV file from the finder to the iDVD menu window. Make sure you don't drag it to any Drop Zones, I think that might be your problem with the DV file showing up as the background. If you have default settings in iDVD, this drag and drop should then create submenus based on your chapter markers.
I'm not sure if you have any issues with the Chapters not showing up in QT. If you're expecting them to show up, then make sure that when you do the Export to QT that the option to include Chapter Markers is set. Upon conversion, you should see the Chapters within QT as well as when imported into iDVD.

well, yes i am more of a multimedia internet guy, and switching to n series, and i have a few questions : i noticed on the n97, after i tried it for 10 minutes, that every time u click on something on the screen there is a small vibration, can that be turned of ? and does the n97 comes with nokia maps 2.0 or ovi maps 3.0 ? and will the free navigation offer from nokia be on the n97? and does the n900 have a sensor for autorotate between landscape and portrait? and on the n97, can i for example update my status on facebook using hand writing ?and can i get an office documents editor on the n97, or n97 mini ?

Personally, if you're looking for the best bang for buck, its the 5800 since the only diff between it and the n97's as krizanand said, is the keyboard and max storage. The n97 has 32gb internal expandable with an additional 16gb card, the mini has 8gb internal+16gb card max, the 5800 only maxes out with a 16gb card. If I were to choose, I'd wait for the n97's january/february batch with the prebuilt in v2.0 firmware in the hopes that everything is already fixed with it, as we already gave Nokia a lot of time to fix things. The qwerty keyboard is a big thing if you like to surf the net or type a lot as the extra screen space is a deal breaker. I dont have an n97 though since when I bought my 5800, the n97 wasnt released yet, and I am in no mood to change phones so soon. ^_^

Migrating from G4 Mac Mini to Mac Pro

Hi There,
I'll be receiving my new Mac Pro tomorrow - to say I'm excited is an understatement - and I want to make sure I set it up as efficiently as possible. I plan on having the same 3 Account names on the new Mac Pro, and I'm happy re-installing all of my favourite applications for the Intel version, but its my data that's bothering me.
Is it really as simple as copying the relevant folders from the Mini to the Pro ?
I'm only really interested in Mail (for my wife's mail account), my iTunes Library, my photos (from iPhoto '06 to '08) and my Firefox/Safari bookmarks. Having read various threads, it seems that I overwrite the whole folder on the new Pro with the whole folder from the Mini e.g. \home\library\Mail on the Mini overwrites \home\library\Mail on the Pro, \home\pictures from Mini overwrites \home\pictures on the Pro, etc
I'm worried that in copying these folders to the new Pro that I'm going to bring old crap over and soil my nice new Pro.
Anyone care to re-assure/correct me ?

If your Mini is already running Leopard I don't see a problem using Migration Assistant. Or you can connect the two via Target Disk Mode and simply copy your personal files to the new computer. This latter is the safest method. The following will help with certain items:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
If you want cookies:
/Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
/Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data

Mac mini to Mac pro file transfers via router

I am trying to transfer file from a Mac mini to Mac pro via a router. Both are running Leopard. I can see the other mac and open folders but I cannot transfer file. I have set up permission for file sharing and the info on the drive reflects that. I should have permission to both read and write. The firewall id turned off. I am running a Linksys WRT54GS router.
Any ideas?

This is how it works on Snow Leopard (simplest way):
On the mini open two Finder windows.
On window #1 click on the Mac Pro entry on the left side. You should see user icons on the right side. Double click on the user entry to which you are going to transfer files. You should see the drop box.
On window #2 find the files or folders you want to transfer. Drag and drop them onto the drop box in window #1. The files should copy over to the Mac Pro.
Log into the Mac Pro. Use the finder to move files from the username/Public/Drop Box to their final destination.

What is better Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Exel

I am working on Macbook pro retina for around 16 hours a day, it is ok but the screen is to small. I am opening about 25 - 30 EXCEL windows, 20 - 25 safari windows at the same time. Excel windows are small, they only show 40 rows and S column Now I am considering buying iMac 5k ( but the screen is only 27", however a very high resolution but I think that fonts and digits displayed may be too small ). I am also considering Mac Mini or Pro with 40" 4K TV ( 4k computer monitors are 27 - 31" , so better idea would be purchasing iMac 5k ) . The problem is that 40 - 42" TV don't have Display Port ( I can't find it anywhere )
Please help me to choose what would suit my needs better. I need large screen to work comfortably with an Excel sheets. What is better? Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Excel ?. The other problem I have is that when I spend 16 hours at work with retina macbook , my eyes are ok. Using the 30'' Dell screen 2560/1440 my eyes are tired after 2 hours.

Currently you can only get 4 K at 30 Hz via HDMI. Some users have reported jerky curser movement because of the 30 Hz.
I would go for the 5K iMac. You can add a second screen at 4K.

The best thing for iOS development is your imagination. Coming up with unique creative apps is what’s most important. I've had a mini since they first came out, and I think it's the best desktop around. However you may not want a desktop because you're more mobile when you work on apps. With the mini you can use a much bigger screen (I use a 80 inch) but the laptop has a slightly better processor (if you decide to pay extra for it). I'm learning app development also and a laptop would drive me crazy, but it's a personal choice, so you first need to decide where you are going to be while you're developing. If it’s at home or a office then the mini might be better. The mini and the macbook pro are both two incredible products. I don’t think you can make a wrong decision as far as which one handles app design better. They’re both great in that department.
