Sharing history pages, iCloud tabs, etc

I recently sold my MacBook Pro and bought MacBook Air. I transferred all my data from the old one to the new one right after purchase. However, both laptops still share certain things such as history pages, iCloud pages, etc., on Safari. Is there any chance we can stop this?

I'm currently running iOS 6 Beta 3 on the 3rd gen iPad & iCloud tabs don't appear to be working. Safari does not have the cloud icon in the browser on my iPad, any suggestions? Also when browsing categories in the App Store, tapping "see all" does nothing, it does not respond. Are you experiencing any similar issues? In regards to iCloud tabs everying is switched on as it should be.

  • Do I need to clear history on icloud?

Do I need to clear history, cookies, cache on Icloud?  How?

Your cookies and browser cache are only stored locally on your devices.  If you are syncing Safari with iCloud, your open web pages ("iCloud tabs") are in iCloud, and can be cleared by simply closing the open tabs in your browser (or by enabling private browsing).
Are you doing this as a troubleshooting step for something?

  • Major confusion re: shared history & open tabs

The subject line refers to a problem I'm having with iCloud shared history and tabs using Safari on my iPad (3rd Gen., iOS 8.3), my iPhone 4s (iOS 8.3), and Safari 8.03 on my iMac (Maverick).
The problem seems to be with my iPad. Using it, I can see the history of what I've done using Safari on the iMac and iPhone but none of what I've done on the iPad. Naturally, what I've done on the iPad does not show up in History on the iMac or iPhone. Similarly, while I can see tabs currently open on the iMac and iPhone on any of the three devices, I can only see open tabs on the iPad *on* the iPad -- i.e., I ca't see them on the iMac or iPhone.
I'm logged into the same iCloud account on all three devices and Safari is switched "on" in the iCloud preferences. I restarted the iPad. I turned Safari "off" in iCloud prefs on the iPad. (When it asked what I wanted to do with Safari data synced with iCloud -- yeah, right -- I choose to keep it on the iPad. Then I turned it back "on" and no change on the iMac and iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

Firefox Sync isn't intended for the purpose of doing a "backup" and restoration, but some users have been successful using it for that. You need to have your username, password, and the '''Sync Key'''.
IMO, you are better off doing it manually. <br />

  • I've installed ios 6 on my iPhone 4. I can't find "shared streaming photo" and "iCloud tabs"

Escuse me I'm an italian boy. I've installed ios 6 yesterday on my iPhone 4 and on my iPod Touch 4g. In my iPod i can't find the tabs in the icloud tabs (safari). In my iPhone 4 i can't find shared photo stream and also the tabs in the iCloud tabs. i've surfed in internet with the two devices but the folder of the iCloud tabs remains empty . why? please help me.

For iCloud tabs be sure that both devices are signed into the same iCloud account, and that you have opened multiple web pages rather than always opening new sites in the same web page.
Shared photo streams are inititiated by opening the camera roll in the thumbnail (grid) view, then tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to share, tap the Share button, tap Photo Stream, select the email address of the people you want to share these photos with, fill in a name for it, turn on Public if you want them to be able to view it on icloud.com, type Next, fill in comments if you want, the tap Post.

  • My wife and I were sharing the same iCloud account. we now have separate iCloud accounts, I've switched over iCloud, FaceTime, iMessage, but I can still see her old iCloud Tabs that were in her iPhone before we switched iCloud accounts. How can i fix this

I have also turned off iCloud on my iMac, donme complete resets with clean fresh restores on my iPhone and iPad but her old iCloud tabs are still there?

THis is an example. It's available with iOS 6.x and Moountain Lion. It's the iCloud icon that you see in the Safari toolbar.
It allows you to view any page that's open on any of the devices using the same iCloud ID

  • A cleaning utility deleted my browsing history! My fault! I want to re-open the old pages and tabs. The info may be in an old "sessionstore.js" or "places.sqlite" file but these are huge and some URLS are written backwards. Where do I start please?

I have copied "places.sqlite" and given it a .txt extension, then opened in Wordpad - but it's huge - I don't know what order it's in and many of the URLS are written backwards - like "moc.smooretal.www" instead of "www.laterooms.com."
Similarly there are several numbered versions of sessionstore.js in the profile and these can be opened with a text editor too. But if I simply substitute the current sessionstore.js file with an older (numbered) one in the profile, Firefox seems to ignore it.
    So:
    1. Is there a method of re-installing the "history" sites list or "previously opened pages and tabs" from the 'places.sqlite' file, or from a previous sessionstore.js file (and if so how do I go about it ?)
    2. If not, is there an alternative source of browsing history back-up which I can use or
    3. If not that either, is there at least a way of reversing the backwards text so I can read the URLs and copy/paste them?
    All knowledgeable help much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

Firefox has other backups it makes automatically, unfortunately your cleaning utility may have wiped them.
#First step backup manually whatever you have
#*''' edit''' <s>[[backing up and restoring backups]]</s><br/> [[backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
#Second step find and copy all of your profile folder and all the sub files and sub folders
    ## easiest method of finding it is <br> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile [Open containing folder] <br/>The places.sqlite is a database that contains all your bookmarks and history, if this exists and is not corrupt then your bookmarks library should work and allow you to create backups.
    ##*see [[backing up your information]]
    ## put it somewhere safe your Windows desktop will do
.JSON files are the backup files, either created manually or by firefox
sessionstore.js files probably are of little use to you, containing only the tabs & windows from recent close downs, not the full history and bookarks.
Now that any existing files are safe try to see if any backups exist that firefox created automatically
    * these would be in a folder within the profile
    * they can most easily be used by opening the bookmarks library, as explained in the article linked above.

everything else works on my iPhone in iCloud but when I try to connect to iCloud on safari I get the page ICloud set up iCloud on this device etc. What's up?

You cannot connect to iCloud.com from an iOS device, you can only connect from a computer. You can access any of the data in your iCloud account from the appropriate apps on your device (mail, contacts, calendars etc)

i have updated to maverick but am getting constant safari page reloads, tab freezes, etc, any ideas, or any idea when apple aim to fix this please?

Try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • How to disable history from new tab page without disabling the new tab page entirely?

As the title states. I have read countless questions on this and none ever give a working answer. So I will try again. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that even though I delete my browsing history after every time, my browsing history still shows up on the new tab page. Which proves that Firefox is actually NOT deleting my browsing history like it says. So how do I STOP that from happening? I don't want my browsing history to show up anywhere. At all. Ever. For any reason. Is that impossible with Firefox? That would put it in first place for world's worst browser if your browsing history is permanent like mine is right now. Huge security hole much?? So how do I make it stop once and for all. But I still want the new tab page there, but ONLY with the sites I have pinned to it. Nothing else. EVER.

First off, let's start by updating you to the latest Firefox, 32.0.3. ([[Update Firefox to the latest version]]). Firefox 20, which you are running, is suspect to MANY security issues (including one fixed just yesterday that affects the entire internet and allows websites to pretend to be any website they want to be), plus it has it's own bugs and issues in Firefox itself.
After you've updated, let's see if we can't get this sorted out. Are you saying that when you clear your history the new tab page doesn't clear? Are you using the default new tab page or do you have any new tab page add-ons installed?

  • How to share safari iCloud tabs using a secondary iCloud account?

I have 4 iOS devices in the family: an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, ipad 2 and an ipad 3, all with the latest iOS software.
Each  pair has its own separate primary icloud account. So, one phone shares a primary icloud account with one ipad, the other iPhone  shares with the second ipad. That allows us to keep most things separated as necessary. However,. the are just 2 things I wanted to across across ALL 4 devices: Shared Safari Tabs, and Find iPhone. I wanted to be able to see what safari tabs are currently open on ALL these devices, FROM any device of these devices.  I also wanted to be able to see the location of ALL 4 devices from any of these devices.  To do this, I set us a second shared iCloud account on all 4 devices.
The new shared safari tabs feature works great with your main iCloud account on all devices you want to share this with....HOWEVER, it WILL NOT WORK AT ALL if you are trying to share tabs with a secondary iCloud account.
I set up a secondary shared family iCloud account on all 4 of our iOS devices by going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/Add Account... and selected iCloud as the account type, and created a new family account. After creating it, I was offered options to share various things with that account. I turned OFF every share option except Safari and Find iphone.
Turning ON the Safari sharing option generated a box telling me that Safari sharing will be turned OFF for main iCloud account, (which is fine), and asking if I want to save my current Safari data and roll it into the new iCloud account or delete it (I've tried it both ways). I then repeated this process on all 4 of our family iOS devices. The result is that Safari iCloud sharing actually stops working all together. The new "cloud" symbol that was at the top of the browser window on my iPads , next to the bookmarks button, has now disappeared. On my iPhones, the menu option for sharing safari tabs has disappeared. So, enabling Safari sharing in a secondary iCloud account DOES disable sharing in the primary account, but DOES NOT REALLY enable it in the secondary account, even though it SAYS it is enabled.
Apple's phone support is worthless on this issue. multiple calls to senior advisors, 3 times being told my issue was being referred to "engineering"....never a single followup call or email back EVER, after weeks. i am really tired of so-called senior advisors even telling me "Oh, you can't have more that one icloud account in a device", which is NOT true, see above for how I have added one.
What is really odd is that the one other thing i wanted to share across all 4 devices does work: the Find Iphone app. Again,, turning this on in the secondary iCloud account settings causes a warning that Find iPhone will be turned off for the primary iCloud account on that device, which is fine for me. I did it on all 4 devices, and now from any of them I can log into Find iPhone and see the location of all 4 devices, even though they use different primary iCloud accounts. Sharing this feature still works with the secondary account.
So why won't the Safari data share properly with the secondary account? if this feature isn't supported with a secondary account, why is it there as on option in the first place? What purpose does Safari sharing serve with a secondary account? NONE that I can find, aside from DISABLING sharing completely for the primary iCloud account.
If anyone has an idea of how to make this work, or what purpose the Safari sharing serves in a secondary icloud account, I'd love to know. Better yet,  explain it to Apple because they are clueless.........

Sigh...it's gotten even worse with iOS7.
While iOS7 may be a big leap forwards in most respects, the "Find my iPhone" feature has taken a big step in reverse. This useful feature is NO LONGER AVAILABLE for use with secondary iCloud accounts, ONLY your PRIMARY account.
This may not be a huge concern for most users, because many (including most first-tier tech reps at Apple I've spoken to) seem to believe that you can only have one iCloud account on a device. NOT TRUE. While you can only have one PRIMARY account, you can add multiple additional iCloud EMAIL accounts (go to Settings/Mail, Contacts & Calendars/Add Account/iCloud). In the last iOS, once you created a new, secondary iCloud email address, you could activate many iCloud features for use with the new account, including Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Notes, Safari Data (which never actually worked), and Find My iPhone. Under iOS7, however, Find My iPhone is no longer available. Instead, a small paragraph below the new iCloud email account setup screen says "Only your main account can use Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data, Backup, and Find My iPhone."
Consider two cases where this is a huge problem.
    1) We have a large number of company iOS devices that we need to keep track of.
    2) Personally, I have an iPhone and iPad, and so does my wife. So do our kids!
In both the above cases, we created a secondary iCloud account, we'll call it "[email protected]", and added it as a secondary iCloud email address on ALL our iOS devices. In the setup screen we disabled everything EXCEPT "Find My iPhone". This account has a unique password, making it possible to see the location of ANY OR ALL the devices using the Find My iPhone App, WITHOUT having to share email, contacts, calendars, etc. among all these devices.
In our company, I can tract the location of any iOS device I gave to an employee, but his personal PRIMARY iCloud account is used to keep his mail, contacts, calendars, etc. secure. He shares this data between his iPhone and iPad, but NOT with everyone else. In my family, we all have our own primary iCloud accounts. I share mine between my iPhone and iPad; my wife and kids do the same. This allows us to keep our calendars, contacts, emails, etc. separated. But we all used the secondary iCloud email account ONLY with Find My iPhone. This allowed everyone in the family to see the location of everyone else, very nice in an emergency. Unlike the Find My Friends app, the device being located doesn't have to respond to a request to be found (very important when finding a lost or stolen device).
In both the above cases, we just log into the Find My iPhone APP on ANY iOS device, using the secondary iCloud account's email address and password (the email address is actually saved in the app, so you really only need to enter the password after the initial login). Viola! You can now see the location of any device that has that secondary iCloud account installed. And a person can still be untrackable if they wish, simply by turning off the Find My iPhone feature under the shared account's iCloud account settings on their device.
Alas, with iOS7 this is no longer possible. With the Find My iPhone feature only available for use with the device's PRIMARY iCloud account, there are only two ways to track another device:
    1) Use the same primary iCloud account (which forces you to share other data and features you may not want to);
    2) Log into the Find My iPhone APP with the PRIMARY iCloud email address and password of the person you want to track.
Either way, the person doing the tracking MUST have access to the PRIMARY iCloud credentials of the device they are tracking. This is a large security hole! Ask yourself: if you are a parent, do you really want your kids to have access to your primary iCloud account, including your mail, contacts, calendars, etc? Some people may not want their spouse to access that. In a company setting, do you want all your employees to be FORCED to share Documents & Data, Backup and Bookmarks, just to use the Find My iPhone feature? If they want to keep their mail, contacts, calendars, etc. separated from other employees, they will be forced to move these to a secondary iCloud account, which will no longer allow them to share Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data or Backup. Why this ridiculous limitation?
The bottom line:Find My iPhone is now only useful for the primary iCloud account holder, and can no longer be used effectively between larger numbers of iOS devices, such as families or corporate institutions. This should be addressed in the next update to the iOS.

  • Is there a way to get iCloud tabs to sync between my iPod touch and Safari for Windows?

I would like to know if there is a setting or something that I'm missing over...
I already have iTunes and the iCloud Control Panel on my Windows 8 computer.  Is the iCloud Tab feature Mac-only or can I get it to sync with Safari for Windows?  Thanks for the help.

OS X Lion and Windows 7 users can still sync Bookmarks and the Reading List with iOS devices via iCloud when using Safari 5.1. The iCloud Control Panel 2.1 for Windows also supports syncing Bookmarks with Internet Explorer 9, but not the Reading List as IE simply doesn’t have an equivalent feature.
While not as seamless as the iCloud Tabs feature, Bookmarks and Reading List can still be an effective way to share pages between your Windows 7 PC and your iOS devices; if you’re using Safari on Windows, the Reading List is best for storing and sharing one-time content while Bookmarks obviously are better suited for keeping track of pages that you may want to refer back to more than once.

According to this, I think you can.

  • Use iCloud tabs without saving tabs on device

I have 4 iPads, 2 iPhones, and a MacBook all on the same iCloud account. This is a great feature to connect them all except for iCloud tabs. I feel like maybe I'm missing the options I'm looking for or maybe (hopefully not) they don't exist. 2 of my iPads are my kids and safari is disabled but all other devices use safari and iCloud tabs to keep everything in sync.  The issue I am running into is that I like having access to iCloud tabs on my MacBook and one of the iPhones but I don't want to sync FROM those two devices. Is it possible to be able to use iCloud tabs on MacBook and phone to see tabs on the other 3 devices it syncs with but without saving and syncing from MacBook and iPhone? Right now the phone is set to private browsing with iCloud tabs turned on but that method really is a pain cause I can't look back in history if I need to return to a page. Is there any other work around? I still want to see iCloud tabs on all five devices I just don't want tabs from the phone or MacBook showing on the other devices as well. Also is there anyway even third party app to sync the history in safari between devices? Thanks in advance!

I understand that and like I said my kids ipads are on there but they are blocked. But one iphone and one ipad I use for work but the other ipad and Iphone are personal and that is what im trying to seperate. I dont mind have business tabs on my personal devices and actually like being able to access those but I dont want personal device tabs showing on the business devices. I dont know if that makes sense and sorry if it doesnt I just want to IF POSSIBLE seperate them so that should a coworker use my business phone or ipad which they do sometimes and I dont mind but I dont want them pulling open tabs and seeing whatever ive looked at when at home.
