Sharing iCal with non-mac calendars

How can I share my iCloud calendar with someone who stubbornly doesn't want to download iCloud to their PC or set up an @me email on their iPhone??

Hi there brucedm!
I have some information that might prove useful to you about iCloud. First, iCloud is a free service, and you can find more information on the basics of it in the following webpage:

I also have some more specific information for you regarding iCloud calendars and sharing calendars. This article is an overview of calendar sharing:

I am trying to sync my new MacBook Air iCal with my iMac calendar.  It will synce with MobileMe calendar on the iMac, but I can't get rid of iCal on the iMac and this one keeps coming up with an error message.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • Sync iCal with multiple Mac systems - How to ?

I have created a system over the years that finally worked for me using my Palm. I use missing sync and will sync my iCal at my office Mac and also at my home Mac. This way if over the weekend or anywhere else in-between my schedule changes, everything gets updated.
It also helps that I use .Mac to sync everthing in-between the computers as well.
So... I am now taking the plung into the iPhone... but I want to set this up correctly.
I cannot only sync my schedule at work OR home. Too much changes throughout the week for me. I also rely on syncing things on Sunday evening and then using .Mac to publish it around to various people (I am using the Mac technology as it was intented to be used!)
Since it appears that syncing is only acheived via iTunes and not using iSync, how can I acheive this?
Or could I use iSync via Bluetooth???
The ONLY thing I really need to sync on the work computer is the iCal ...everything else can sync at the home computer (well I would like to sync other items from time to time, but I can live with this solution if I have to!)
I am also concerned reading here what appears to tell me that I can only have one calendar... again I am a busy person who receives .Mac feeds with other people's iCals and sometimes has them sync and I currently have them sync to my Palm lifedrive (all color coded to clarify).
I really hope that going "all Mac" will be easier and simler than the cobbled together mess that I finally created over the years with the Palm with my macs. My wife and I finally know what each other's schedule is!
    any thoughts?
    thanks
    Rich

I see what you are saying and understand how allowing .mac to update the other computers will work.
But what will update the iPhone until I reach the office computer (say I sync at the offic, I just updated things on the home computer, synced via .mac so things are OK for the computers, and it is the Friday evening... )
I will have a couple of days of outdated schedule in my pocket until Monday.
I want to keep a current iCal on my iPhone.
    Is this possible?

  • ICal - On My Mac Calendar - Card

On my Macbook Pro - iCal is being very slow to update. I am set up to synch with 2 Google calendars and that has been working fine for over a year. I looked at my calendars and now it has a lot of entries under On my Mac that say "card", as well as my Google Calendars. Any suggestions?

I removed all my calendars and the cards are still there and are now listed as my default calendar.
Is there some other app that is automatically creating these entries that I could check? I have gone through and unchecked the cards above and the next time I go in they are checked again.

  • Sync iCal with multiple Macs using Dropbox?

I recently purchased an old PowerBook G4 (as in, Mini-VGA old) to take with me to class for note taking. I was hoping to be able to sync my main iCal from my Mac (unibody MacBook Pro, pre-Thunderbolt) to my "new" PowerBook G4. It would really be easiest if i could use iCloud, I know, but my PowerBook is running OS X 10.5.8, so no iCloud there.
I Googled my issue, and quickly found Wired's How-To Wiki page "Sync Your Life with Dropbox" (http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Sync_Your_Life_With_Dropbox), which has you, using Terminal, move your iCal calendar files into your Dropbox in the first step, and during step two I get lost.
When I type in the command (as per the second step)
    ln -s ~/Dropbox/ Calendars/ ~/Library /Calendars
into Terminal, I receive "No such file or directory." Thinking the spaces between Dropbox/Calendars and Library/Calendars were erroneous, I attemped removing them, only to return "File exists."
I'm not at all savvy with using Terminal, but appreciate any and all help I can get.
    Thanks!

    Roger,
Thanks for such a quick response. I am strictly copying and pasting that command (which then enters with the tilde ~). You mentioned both username and the tilde and your meaning of the word "that" becomes a little ambigous, did you mean to use the tilde or replace it with my username?
    Roger Wilmut1 wrote:
This is used to indicate your username (the name of your Home Folder) and it is that you should be typing.
Also, being as cautious as I am using Terminal, I only removed those spaces on the recommendation of a prevoius support discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11039672#11039672, I'm far too chicken to mess around in Terminal with so little knowledge of what I could accidentally do.

  • Cannot make a video connection with non-mac users (AIM Triton)

Whenever me and my girlfriend try to start a video chat, we get error messages on both ends. i know everything is up to date because i can chat fine with other mac users, but whenever i try to chat with someone who is using AIM Triton i cna never make a connection, even though iChat says i should be able to.
Which side dost the problem lie?
Answerer gets a cookie, haha, i've literally tried enough to get this fixed

    Hi
iChat does it's video streaming through Quicktime (I believe), it's why one way to solve a connection problem is to try this:
System Preferences>Quicktime>Streaming - set streaming speed to 1.5Mbps
Also make sure Bandwidth limit is set to None in iChat>Preferences>Video.
Restart iChat after making the changes.
It's a good idea, if you can, to post an error log (down as far as where the binary images start) & give as much info as you can as to your connection to the internet (make & model of modem/router etc).

  • ATOS - Compatibility with non mac machines

Not sure if this is the right forum.
I am trying to find some information on whether ATOS (address to symbols) can be used on a non-Mac Unix machine like Sun Solaris (Sparc or X86) and Linux.
    Has anyone tried this?

Thanks for your quick response, Neil. I am aware it's created by Apple. I was hoping it will be usable on other Unix environments.
I am trying to set up a batch process to run ATOS on some crashes. I don't have an extra Mac handy. I may have access to some spare Sun Sparc machines. I was wondering if I copy the tool and required symbol files etc it will work.
The man page generally says ATOS is Mac OS X developer tool. I don't know the details of the low level ties with the operating system, but thought if we give it required symbols it might just work? Is it worth a try? Or you definitely know it's not going to work. In that case i don't want to waste time tracking down the Sparc machines.

  • Sharing slideshows with non Apple users

Can anyone suggest the best way to share slideshows with non Apple family and friends?

Are you asking about the file format for non-Apple PC's or the best way to physically share the slideshow file or are you asking about sharing with people that don;t have a computer at all?
Once you create the slide show in Aperture you will need to export it. You can  pick a number of formats and uses during export. The easiest way would be to export for YouTube. Once the export is finished you can upload the file to YouTube and give all your friends and family the URL to play it.
If you want to deliver a file depending on the software they have on the PC you could use the .mov file format. This requires Quick Time to play it but there is a free Quick Time player for windows available from Apple.
If you want to create a DVD to play on a standard DVD player you will need to get a hold of DVD aurhoring  software. Apple use to include the software with iLife but stopped doing that a while back. If you're looking to make a video DVD post back.

  • Sharing files with another mac

I have some videos on Iphoto that I want to share with another Mac via the cloud. How do they find it on their computer?

One of the most secure way to share files over the internet is to use an sftp server.
Goto your system preferences-->sharing-->turn on remote login.
Then on your router's or firewalls port forward tcp port 22 to your mac. Then you can log into each others mac using an SFTP client such as transmit or cyberduck.
