Sharing in compressor 4.1.1

I just do a upgrade and a compete re-install, cleaned out the compressor files in the libary and the plist files on both machines
when I start compressor I get this error
2/15/14 1:42:48.521 PM Compressor[433]: FAILURE: Job com.apple.CompressorHelper-1 is not loaded in launchd.
How do I fix this?

I don't think the network encoding monitor is functional. Othen than the main console I do not get error messages.  In the version 3.x the product was stable when the cluster was on an external drive.   I use the cpu monitor on the slave computer for my my monitor. That seems to the only reliable monitor.
Most of my work so far has been trying to get the poduct stable and understanding the funciton better. Clustering has been a real pain. It breaks and I have no way to understand why or what.
The console is a pain and I cannot get a real idea of the flow of operations The marker function disapears if I switch screens. In short I have no way to even read compressor errors.
Today, compressor has been solid, I have disabled automatic file sharing and have mounted the slave computer to my thunderbolt attached drive. I had one hang up this morning but when I rebooted the slave, it took off again. Through all this the network encoding monitor tells me nothing.
I think have have had a Mac for about a year, FCPX and compressor have been more of a challange than I though. The major upgrades  without a real warning was a suprise.

I am trying to compress an 18GB quicktime movie for youtube/vimeo sharing but Compressor keeps telling me it's failed. Any ideas?

make sure you have sufficient drive space on your target drive.  Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free space on your startup drive.  What format is the original quicktime movie?

  • Burning extra copies of a FCP 7 shared through Compressor 3.5

As has been posted before by others using FCP 7 & Compressor 3.5, I don't want to go to Toast 10 to duplicate an existing FCP 7 project (with the 3.5 menu using your own still image) as I don't want to use the Toast menus.
Once I have shared a FCP 7 project via Compressor and burned the discs, and now want to burn a couple of extra copies, can I shortcut the process by somehow jumping to the "create a disc" step rather than having to re-encode the project again . . . this recreation takes a lot of time!!
Thanks for any advice or input

    Hi iamfrustrated
I'll have to tell you I don't have much experience with compressor, I've been using Episode to transcode my DVD files and Encore to author my DVD's and I am just getting started with burning Blu-ray. But I would think you could simply burn a Blu-ray disc image to your hard drive from within compressor and then even use toast if you want to turn make additional copies. Is that perceivable?

  • Final cut pro warning dialogue on sharing with compressor settings keeps disappearin

Every time I try to 'export with compressor settings' a warning dialogue that keeps appearing for a fraction of a second and then disappears. Seems to be part of the sharing montitor - but can't see it long enough to see what it is. Didn't happen when I was running the trial version but now that I'm using the full version I can't seem to export anything - I assume because of this dialogue.
Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on how to cure it?

Actually I think its in the pref's files. All I did was create a second account to log into my computer and relaunched Finalcut there. Because the working and project files are on an external drive it works fine.
A little unhandy as I can't get into my mail while in my dummy account - but it works. So I'm wondering which prefs files to delete to find out if that's the problem.

  • Sharing using "Compressor Bundle" resulted in 2 differently encoded videos?

I selected Compressor Bundle and a custom preset entitled "640x360 1.8mbps SP".
I ended up with this one but there was also another video created encoded with a setting of  "SD 360p 1700mbps
When I chose Share again to see what was happening, I noticed the item at the bottom left of the window which could change the setting from one to the other.
I've never seen this before but it looks as though it causes 2  different versions to be created.
Clicking it changes it from "Previous" to "Next" Bundle.
How it got there when I just selected one setting is a mystery.
Even stranger is the fact that the "1700" preset is nowhere to be found on my computer  .  .  .  I believe it was deleted some time ago.
Has anyone got any ideas about what might be going on?

    Thanks Tom.
The Destinations prefs revealed that the "deleted" 1700kbps preset was one of the two but I still can't find any trace of it in my Compressor Folder
There are many items I don't recollect seeing previously.
I have got both Compressors 4.1.1 and 4.0.6  on my iMac  .  .  .  .  I wonder if that could be contributing to the odd behaviour?

  • Cannot process on shared group from FCPX/Motion

I am using Compressor 4.1 with FCPX 10.1 on Mavericks 10.9.1.  When I share a video project to Compressor, I am unable to select the shared computer group I set up (Mac Pro Group) for processing.  The "Process on:" drop down shows my group, but it is grayed out.  I can see "Mac Pro Group" as an option, but can only select is "This Computer".  The same thing happens when sharing to Compressor with Motion 5.1.  BTW, the computer I am sharing to is 2012 iMac running the same, up to date versions of Mavericks, Compressor, and FCPX.
However, when I drag and drop a .mov file from elsewhere on my computer directly into Compressor, I can use the group I set up for processing.
**Why can't I share processing from FCPX 10.1 and Motion 5.1 using Compressor 4.1?!**
    Thanks!

Hi, In addition to the helpful posts in this thread on this commonly asked issue, a recent  post here (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5936529?tstart=0) shows where this restriction is documented by Apple  for others to also review. • Share window says my footage is 100% shared but video is cut off prematurely.

I finished a segment of a wedding video this week.  I used a compressor bundle to export that includes both the Dolby Digital for DVD (for sound) and the MPEG-2 for DVD (for the video).  The share window says the process is 100% complete.  iMac running Mavericks did not "sleep" or anything during the compression period.  HOWEVER, when I bring the project in to DVD Studio Pro the audio is complete (the audio segment always compresses first [and quickly] anyway) but the video segment is cut off about 2/3 the way through.  I trash and double trash the segments... reshare.... same problem!   Never had any problem with this sharing before.  Full project is 3.6 GB to be burned to a 4.7 GB DVD.  Please advise!!

Okay, this was an odd fix.  Apparently the m2v was sharing through compressor completely each time.  When I brought it into DVD Studio Pro it was cut off at the same place each time.  I viewed it in the Track tab of my DVD Studio Pro project and observed each time that the m2v was shorter than the AC3 audio in the viewer.  Finally, and I don't know for what reason, I just stretched the m2v clip out and there it all was!!  Hope this helps someone else that's as clueless as I was!

  • Resetting Compressor 4.1's preferences... old disconnects causing issues

I need to reset compressors settings.  I believe I have multiple computers that are failing to participate in tasks because of server interruptions that happened long in the past.
I need to reset the conntection to my server to be a different mode, and start ALL over with a nice fresh Compressor slate... one where it doesn't remember the time that it tried to access files which suddently disappeared.
I have saved my export presets... that's all I need to save.
How do I blow this thing a way and start fresh for a new crack at distributed processing?

Hi Trav,, by "compressor settings" do you mean the actual "default" or customised settings for transcoding reset and/or the default or customised settings for the LOCATIONS? Or do you mean the residual state information for past stale qmaster batch jobs you have submitted?, or both?
"SEARCH" is your friend in these forums.
Also note that this action only effects you and not other users who use Compressor.app V4.1.x on the same host . As you are well aware, the recent and later structure is localised (confined) to a user by user base unlike the old V3 compressor and Qmaster.
As documented (and parroted ) countless times in this forum, especially RESIDULA batch job that won't "cancel".....
On all HOSTS AND USERS! - where you use Compressor.app v4.1.x
simply PRESERVE your templates, droplets, locations and personalised transcoding settings somewhere else from YOUR OWN HOME DIRECTORY Library folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor. (copy them somewhere)
stop any SHARING in compressor (see this forum)
    QUIT Compressor.app V4.1.x
and delete (yes mindlessly! this time) the folder in STEP 1 (~/Library/Application Support/Compressor).
start compressor.app V4.1.x again.. this will reinitialise the structures
copy the settings from STEP 1. back into ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor
set up this host for distributed processing
Simply... this is overwhelmly documented in this forum,  and in the formal Apple Compressor V4.1 Users Guide, about which I highly recommend you and others download as a good reference.
I'm sure it will be documented (and parroted) again on this forum.
Post your results for others to see.

  • The submit button in Compressor 3.5 is greyed out when i attempt to submit a batch

The submit button on Compressor (3.5) is greyed out and will not allow me to submit a batch.  This problem appeared suddenly with no changes made to the settings.  Final cut has been scrubbed from the mac and reinstalled, but the problem persisted. I have downloaded and installed the Digital Rebellion  patch with no success.  Does anyone have a fix for this?
    Thank you

I had the problem with Submit button greyed out...
Tried trashing prefs for Compressor. Nothing changed.
Tried "Compressor > Preferences. ... Enter IP addresses..". Nothing changed.
Then i had a look at System Preferences for QMaster .... and tried to work out if anything was wrong ( looked through the instructions for setting up QMaster:  http://documentation.apple.com/en/appleqmaster/distributedprocessingsetupguide/i ndex.html#chapter=5%26section=2%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:TempBookID-ReplacedWhen AssociatingWithMessierRevision-90620CRE-1015456.....
.. at the end of the "To turn on cluster controller services" section.. it mentions
    "Click Start Sharing.
The cluster is enabled, making this computer a cluster controller."
    So i clicked start sharing.
    Compressor now works fine.
    Hooray!
(i don't have any idea why Sharing had stopped.. i haven't updated Final Cut Studio or the MacOS recently)

  • Its crashing all the time!

I dont know why, but its crashing all the time, no matter what movie i try. Whats going on...

there's a few things you can try. the prefs wont do much because if you are using any "computer plus" or qmaster you will neeed to do the follows to clean compressor.app a bit... so try this..
if compressor can be launched then "stop any sharing" that is active (startup prompt) or use compressor.app menu/Apple qmaster/ "share the computer" and stop any sharing.
    quit compressor.app then
remove (delete) the ~/Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster/ in your HOME directory (if it exists) (use the FInder) or use the rm -rv ~/Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster unix command in the terminal.app
remove the ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor/ in your HOME directory (if it exists) (use the FInder) or use the rm -rv ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor unix command in the terminal.app. This will certainly remove any presets or destinations you had set in compressor. You could also just move this library
    restart compressor.app
set up your prefs etc and destinations for a basic test
do a basic test using "this computer' then "computer plus" then Qmaster cluster if you need.
    Compressor.app will recreate these directories.
Most times any errors are logged in the logs that you can get from the console.app or the "share monitor" logs.
Also please take the time to carefully seach these forums, the COW forums and google in general. Many people have isssues like this. Many are simple to fix and in many cases relate to permissions and access not being correct and other access issues.

  • Jobs are frozen as "Canceling" in Active queue.  How do I remove those jobs?

I have 3 jobs for the same vidoe stuck in my Compressor queue.  I've tried:
    1. Canceling the jobs individually,
    2. Reseting the queue (both cancelling all jobs AND restarting them),
    3. Tried moving the Compressor and Qmaster folders into the trash (Users-->Shared-->Library-->Application Support)
    4. Tried restarting Compressor AND my Mac MULTIPLE times.
    5. Tried trashing preferences for FCPX and Compressor through the Preference Manager app
I've resorted to "sharing" my videos to a ProRes file and converting them via Adobe Media Encoder CS6 to the proper formats. A LONG workaround.
I love using Compressor when it works but it currently does NOT.
    What else can I do?

There is probably a message in ~/Library/Logs/Compressor/jobcontroller*log saying there is a problem, but without looking I would:
    Turn off sharing
    Close Compressor
    Remove /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Compressor/exports
    Restart
Otherwise, look in the log and post it here.  Its either that exports file or the mount point.

  • Why is qtkitserver 32-bit?

When I do a render / export in FCPX, there's a process in the Activity Monitor called QTkitserver that is 32-bit.
I thought we were in a 64-bit, AV Framework world nowadays?
My camera shot AVCHD and the timeline is h264, Linear PCM.
    I'm sharing to Youtube.
Has something installed incorrectly over the years that is hobbling the system?  This install has been continuously migrated since Os 9.2.
I'm on Mavericks now and FCPX 10.1.1.

It was down below half of CPU usage.
Tried the same thing but sharing via compressor and it ends up using ProMSRendererTool instead, which is 64-bit and uses all the CPU power it can get, provided I use 2 processes under compressor preferences...
With only one process allowed it uses about 80% of CPU including ProMSRendererTool and compressord which is 32 bit.
Not sure how GPU fits into this, though.  Does 32-bit not matter for GPU work?  And where in the world can I get something that shows me GPU useage?

  • Qmaster Compressor and Shared Storage

I've got Qmaster working on my compressor encodes and everything is working fine. What I want to know is whether there is a way to cut out the extra copy of data for the encode. All of my machines in the cluster have the same shared storage mounted on the desktop, but still my jobs get copied first and then encoded.
Is there anyway to configure qmaster, compressor and the cluster machines so they all use their local path for source files? And avoid the extra copy of the source files to the controller system?
    Thanks in advance.

You want to make sure in Compressor, under Preferences, the Cluster Options field says Never Copy Source to Cluster. Assuming you have all of the correct permissions set and have the Shared Storage configured properly then it should work. "Should" being the key word.

  • How to convert a .flv file into a Youtube sharing .mov file via Compressor?

I'm trying to convert a .flv file into a Youtube sharing .mov file via Compressor but every time I submit it, it fails due to error code -50. It worked two hours ago (albeit, very slowly) with another .flv file but now it refuses to even try. Please help!

Sorry you're having problems, but it's not surprising. The error code is invalid media.
The easy way is to forget about Compressor and upload the Flash file directly to You Tube with their uploader.
You'll also save a generation of compression loss.
    Good luck.

  • Compressor 4.1 shared cluster computer not appearing - but slave can see master

On my main "master" machine, I cannot see one of my shared cluster machines. However, on the particular shared cluster machine (slave) that my "master" cannot see, the slave can see the master in the list of shared computers. So, in other words, I suppose I could launch the Compressor job from the "slave" machine [since the source file is on a network drive that all machines can access], but it doesn't make any sense.
Why can't the "master" see the "slave".
I've tried restarting the master computer, tried turning off wifi and ethernet on the master computer, tried manually inputting the IP address and host name on the master computer in the list of shared computers by hitting the "plus" button. Also tried setting the "Use network interfaces" option to either both, ethernet only, or wi-fi only, also tried resetting the compressor queue, and trashing the Compressor preferences.
Nothing works. What's strange is that this master computer was able to see the slave computer two weeks ago, using Compressor 4.1. Nothing has changed. They are both on the same 10.0.0.x network and subnet. The master machine can ping the slave machine.
    Any ideas?

Just posted this in this discussion forum. Might be helpful even though its specifically for Compressor V4.0.
Run through some of the the procedure if you are on Compressor V4.0 earlier.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5781288?tstart=0
As you're using Compressor V4.1, check the cluster and compressor logs for errors and network and file system permission errors:
~/Library/Logs/Compressor (new in V4.1) to see what he jobcontroller and services node are doing
    check /var/logs (system log)
else for compressor V4.1 it seem sensitive to hardware configurations now.
    might be of some help.
