Sharing in network

hi, i was just wondering now, after i have shared my music with another comp in the house, is there any way to save the shared files on the recieving computer?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions!
From what I have found about your printer, it only has a USB 2.0 connection and lacks a direct ethernet port. In order to share a printer, you have to be able to connect it to your router via an ethernet cable and assign it an IP address so each remote computer can connect to it. Basically, you need an ethernet port on your printer and you don't have one.
Luckily, HP makes a product called "jet direct". It is a rather ugly looking box that converts your USB connection to an ethernet connection. It should allow you to achieve your goal. I'm sure ebay has some for pretty cheap, otherwise your local bestbuy should carry one.
Here's one on ebay:

I hope that answers your question.

When I try to download songs from Itunes, it says an unknown error occured (8328), check the connection to the network is active and try again. I have read other discussions saying to changing settings on the router/ internet fixes it, however I am using a password protected shared wireless network of which I am not the administrator. Is there anything I can do or is it a setting in the network stopping my downloads?

  • Read LabVIEW shared variables ( network variables?) with VB6

Hi, i need to read some LabVIEW shared variables (network variables?) using a VB6 program.
    Is it possible?
I think that yes, using Measurement Studio for VB6 but I don't know how and I haven't found information in the  Measurement Studio for VB6 help file
Could some one send me a program example or explain me how it is possible to read LabVIEW shared variables fromVB6?

    Hello quintella,
To be able to interface with LabVIEW
Shared Variables with Visual Basic 6 you will need to use NI Measurement
Studio, which ships with examples on how to use VB6 with DataSocketing. Apart
from Data Sockets, if you are using Measurement Studio 8.1 or higer, with the
Network Variable Library introducted in NI Measurement Studio 8.1, you can read
and write to shared variables in ANSI C, Visual Basic .NET or Visual C#. (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4679)
Here you have two links where you can
find more information about how to use the datasocket option. In addition, there
are several examples included in Measurement Studio with Network Variables and
    Datasocket.

  • Apple ID for Screen/File Sharing Home Network

I have several Macs connected mostly by ethernet as part of my home network. I am trying to simplify the act of logging into one device from another. One method is to setup a username and password for each Mac, and then use these credentials to log into the other computers when prompted. However, I'd like to use the alternative method of using a shared Apple ID registered on each machine, as described here: OS X Yosemite: Set up users on your Mac at step 8, first bullet point. However, it is unclear exactly WHERE this Apple ID is linked to the user. On older versions of OSX, there is a "Set" button in the Users preferences panel; in Yosemite, this button is no longer present. I have entered my apple ID in the "Advanced Options" screen, accessible by unlocking the lock, and right clicking on the user in question. On the Advanced Options screen, there is a place to enter the Apple ID, as well as an alias. I have also linked all my Macs to my iCloud account in the "iCloud" panel in System Preferences.
I think Apple has made changes to OSX Yosemite, but haven't updated their online user manual in reference to this in Yosemite. The funny thing is am able to log into some of my computers using my Apple ID, but not others, despite the settings appearing to all be the same. I have also tried using an Airport Extreme router (newest version) instead of my Asus router, but it hasn't helped the situation.
Any help or insights would be appreciated...

    Hey kennamy,
I see that you want to access some of your computers remotely and are experiencing some issues. Since you have an iCloud account already signed in to all devices, I would recommend that you use Back to my Mac in order to accomplish this:

  • Multiple Apple Tv's sharing same network but in separate rooms

    Hi,
I currently have an apple tv set up in my home theater room but would like add another atv in my bedroom.  Is it possible to have multiple atv's sharing the same wireless network.  Would this idea workout?
    thanks

Yes, no problem at all. You can add as many as you want.
Every Apple TV has it's own unique MAC adress and will get it's own IP adress on the network.
You can even give every Apple TV it's own unique name.

  • Screen sharing and home sharing makes network drop

Hi. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks and I am having a weird network issue now. I use home sharing all the time to stream to my Apple TV and I use screensharing so I can connect from downstairs using my ipad or another computer. Every since the upgrade, If I am watching something on the Apple TV and then connect to my Macbook Pro, after a few seconds the Macbook Pro's network connection drops for a few seconds. The Apple TV loses connection to the Macbook Pro completely and my VNC app freezes for about 5-10 seconds. It eventually comes back, but this just happens over and over in a vicious cycle. Any ideas? I've tried running the Mavericks install again and fiddling with screensharing settings and VNC settings on the app, but it just seems like the two don't play well together on Mavericks. I never had any of these issues on Mountain Lion. My Macbook Pro is the late 2011 17 inch model with 16GB RAM. I also have a Belkin thunderbolt dock connected and a monitor connected to that via hdmi to mini display port. The disconnections happen whether I use the ethernet port on the Macbook or on the dock.

I've been having a similar issue since upgrading to Mavericks. I use screen sharing all the time to access my home computer from the road, but now it's hit or miss whether I can log in at all, and when I do, screen sharing eventually drops out after less than an hour.

  • Modbus ip shared variable network failure

I am using lab view 8.6 DSC module to communicate to a watlow system which contains five watlow 96 controllers and an EM gateway.  I have created shared variables for the process temperatures and setpoints for each of the five controllers using watlow modbus register Numbers with a 400001 offset.  I have also created shared variables for Updating,CommFail,UpdateNow,and UpdateRate which where predefined. I have error when starting the VI if the SV  has been  dragged and dropped into the block diagram. The message is  Error -1967353902 (The Modbus I/O server failed to receive any response from the Modbus slave device.) occurred at SV in vi. If I bind a variable in the VI to this same SV the error does not occur but the variable cycles between Good, Network Failure, No known value, and device failure as stated in the variable manager watched variables.  The Updating, CommFail and UpdateRate all have a consistent Good in the quality column of the variable manager.  UpdateNow has X in value, type, timestamp, and quality columns.  CommFail and Updating does cycle between true and false randomly.  I have tried a third party software called SpecView 32 demo to see if the commincation with the modbus system is not working and I can create five watlow controlers on my screen and direct them to the ip address along with a unit address and the system works without faults.  This leads me to believe the commincation bewteen the SV Engine and the IP address is not correct.  HELP Please.

If your application can deal with it I would recommend staying clear of the 'Networked Published' option.
When I started my Modbus development on cRIO....I left it enabled, and with ~100 shared variables on a 9074, the CPU was railing, and I saw a buffering behavior on the shared variables (which was not desirable in my application).
In my application I am using the old modbus library (as apposed to the new API) for cRIO to slave comms, the cRIO being the master.
I am also using the IOserver making the cRIO a slave to an external SCADA - and it passes essentially the same data arrays as I use on the modbus library for my local HMI [Not an NI product].....Which is two full Modbus frame writes (@ 120 words each, and about 60 words more for ~300 words outbound from the cRIO).
The IOserver slave was a recent addition and did not add much to the CPU load - although only 16 bytes is high speed, the balance of the total word package is at either 1 second or 3 seconds.
So, in my experince, the 'Networked Published' option adds significant CPU loading (on entery level cRIOs) YMMV.
I am huge fan of the shared variable engine (some at NI were pusing the CVT, and TCE etc...). However most of my shared variables are not the Networked Published variety (excepting local module channels) those have remained networked published for DSM (Distributed System Manager) use.

  • Problems loading a text-file from a shared NT network order

    Hi @ all,
I try to upload a text file in MII that is destinated in a shared order in the NT file network.
I used text_loader with URL FILE://SERVERNAME/SHARE/input.txt and I get the error message "connection refused" even if I use credentials with an authorised user.
Do you have any idea why it does not work?
    Thanks in advance!
    Sebastian

    Hi,
For this you need to use FTP Input Action. Put all the files(you want to upload to MII) are in shared network into your FTP server.
Then use the FTP related actions in transaction. This is the best way.
Also see the similar [Thread|Re: Saving a file to an external system from MII server] and [Help|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mii121/helpdata/en/44/710ca09ea03abee10000000a155369/content.htm]

  • Printer connected to Windows 7 computer remains offline despite being shared over network to imac

My new imac is connected directly to my HP printer. I am trying to connect from another room my old PC running Windows 7 also to this printer over my home network. I have the same workgroup on both computers, and have activated sharing. As far as I can see, I have followed all the standard instruction for sharing. The PC  has identified the printer and the printer has been selected, but print documents have been placed in a queue to print since it states it is offline. How do I get it back on line?

  • File sharing in Network Attached Storage

This isn't strictly a Mac question, but I always get good advice, so here goes:  We are a design shop using Macs for CAD and similar work.  We want to get a NAS for centralized file sharing.  But how does the NAS handle two people using a file at the same time?  If user A opens and modifies a file, but doesn't save or close it, what does user B see when he opens the same file on the NAS?  Is there a way to restrict access to one user at a time?  This seems a prudent strategy.  Some of the NAS models we're looking at offer an even more confusing Dropbox-like synced folder system that resides on each machine.  Same question:  if I open a file on my machine that is NAS-synced, what does my neighbor see?  Thanks to anyone for your help!

    Hi,
You need not to use MSCS cluster solution for TREX distributed installation. You can have all data on central storage that can be NFS mounted or on SAN that can be access by both master and slave servers. Check installation guide. Please find an extract from the guide:
    Centralized Data Storage
With centralized data storage, the data is stored so that all TREX hosts can access it.
Centralized data storage can be realized with different hardware solutions: The data can be located on a server that is optimized for file sharing, in a storage area network (SAN), or on a network attached storage server (NAS server). It is important that the connection between the TREX hosts and the data is sufficiently fast. In the following documentation, a central storage location is referred to as a file server regardless of the underlying hardware.
Centralized data storage is necessary if you want indexing to be highly available. You can only move from a master index or queue server to a backup index or queue server if you are using centralized data storage. You can use standard solutions such as the RAID system to make data highly available.
Centralized data storage also has the following advantages if you are only using master and slave hosts:
    ● Index replication generates less of a network load because the replicated files do not have to be copied onto every slave host.
    ● Index replication is quicker.
    ● Less disk space is required for the replicated indexes because all slave hosts share an index copy.
    Thanks

  • File sharing in network

I have just recently started to use Leopard on my new Macbook.
My problem now is to get file sharing with my Imac with Tiger to function.
I can see the shared folders from Imac on my Macbook but nothing else.
How do I get for example the folder Documents from my Imac to show up on my Macbook. And is it also possible to get a connected USB-disk from my Imac to show up on my Macbook.
I managed that before with AppleTalk, but I understand that file sharing in Leopard don't use AppleTalk as the preferred method to connect.
I have John as adminstrator account on my Imac and John J. as administrator on my Macbook. What settings are then needed to get the folder Documents from the Account John on Imac visible when you are logged on as John J. on the Macbook.

    Hi Prashanth,
There are multiple ways to move content from fileShares to SharePoint.
Step 1: Create the SharePoint Information Architecture - create a site collection preferably chose a document center template, create document libraries and folders as per the network folder structure in your organization.
Step 2: Map your File Share as Network drive in your client machine, and same way map your SharePoint website document library as network drive too. Drag and drop files.
Note there are 2 issues for this approach,
    1) your document metadata will be lost, the last modified by will change to the account with which you have logged into SharePoint while copying, and the last modified time will be changed.
    2) Its a tedious manual approach if you have lots of files.
Now for retaining the metadata you will need to depend upon a 3rd party tools ( or this codeplex solution: http://f2sp.codeplex.com/ (I havent verified that this works with Sp 2013 or not).
Using 3rd party tools has the advantage of retaining metadata and any issues with file naming conventions will also be taken care of most of the prominent tools which otherwise needs to be taken care by administrator manually. - Note SharePoint has file
    naming conventions - https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/905231?wa=wsignin1.0.
Also In order to reduce the effort in second step you can also create content organizer rules and map your drop off library as the drag and drop location.
finally do read this awesome blog post by Sean Earp and Andre Kieft before starting of with the project. http://blogs.technet.com/b/ptsblog/archive/2013/11/04/migrating-file-shares-to-sharepoint-online.aspx
    Hope that helps.

The error message is shown below.
    What is the solution?
We have few users with same rights, so the rights should not be the problem? registry? installation?
We also had a problem with tracker. (With Programs - and Repair option on AdobeAcrobatX solved the problem, now it works...)
    This error is strange.

  • First home sharing, now network problems

I can't seem to get Apple TV to work for me. I've followed the setup instructions and troubleshooting guide, but so far it has been a nightmare. I am connected via wireless router. When I first setup the Atv, the network worked fine, but I couldn't get home sharing to work. Home sharing was turned on both on my computer and on the Atv, but it did not appear in my devices in Itunes and would not register on the Atv. I checked my firewall and even temporarily disabled it to be sure, but no luck. After several reboots and a complete reinstall of Itunes 10.1, now the Atv will not even attempt to connect to the network. Even if I try to manually configure the ipaddress, it does not take on the apple TV. Tomorrow I will get another ethernet cable and try the wired approach, but seriously this thing should not be that hard to setup. I've tried everything in the user guide/troubleshooting tips and a few things that seemed to work for others in this forum (mostly pulling cables and restarting hardware/software), but I am out of ideas. Any suggestions??

Finally solved this issue for me! Turns out it was my Intego VirusBarrier X6. After my initial use of ATV2 and accessing the iTunes library on my iMac, VirusBarrier began blocking the IP address of the ATV on my iMac to prevent a perceived data flood. All I had to do was open the Anti-Vandal tab within VirusBarrier and identify the ATV's IP address as trusted. (The ATV IP address is found under Settings-->General-->Network.)
Thanks to an earlier post by CaptPulver.

  • Help someone sharing my network?

I have an airport network with a password. I have my imac on it and my daughters macbook. when I go to finder it doesn't show my network or shared stuff. it use too. I can't even see that my daughter is sharing my airport wireless.
On her computer the shared thing shows up on her finder and it says mike-pc on it like we are sharing the internet connection with him. We don't have any mike-pc and now i'm afraid that somehow someone is stealing my internet connection (and maybe my pass words?).
How do I find out if anyone is using my network? Why is Mike-pc on my daughters shared places. Why don't I have a shared places on my computer since my daughter is on the network?
How do I get rid of mike-pc.
    Susan

when I go to finder it doesn't show my network or shared stuff. it use too.
Be sure to check in Finder Preferences that you have all of the SHARED items (Back to My Mac, Connected Servers & Bonjour Computers) checked. ref: Finder > Preferences > Sidebar
On her computer the shared thing shows up on her finder and it says mike-pc on it like we are sharing the internet connection with him.
Most likely her Finder Preference setting is different than yours and includes the above items already enabled. The 'mike-pc' entry would be another computer (either a server or another client) that is showing up because she has these settings enabled to detect it. This device may still be connected to your network.
We don't have any mike-pc and now i'm afraid that somehow someone is stealing my internet connection (and maybe my pass words?).
The first thing I would recommend is to both change your wireless network encryption password and to change to the strongest encryption standard (WPA2 Personal) that both of your Macs can connect to. Second, use a strong password. One that uses a mixture of letters, numbers, & punctuation marks ... and is not found in the dictionary.
How do I find out if anyone is using my network?
You can use the AirPort Utility to 'see' what devices are connected to the network. ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Advanced > Statistics > Logs and Statistics > Wireless Clients
Here you will find a list of connected clients by their MAC addresses. You should have both of your Macs in this list. Any other device could potentially be an unwanted guest.

  • Sharing airport network connection to an airport base station over ethernet

    Hi there,
I've got a network connection to the internet via Airport, on my iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.9.
This iBook is connected to the LAN port on an Airport Express base station (for physical wiring reasons, it cannot be connected to the WAN port).
This Airport Express has a dozen other computers attached to it.
Does anyone know how I might be able to share my internet connection, via the LAN side of the Airport Express, to all these other computers?
Incidentally, when I turn on both the Ethernet LAN connection and the Airport internet connection, I stop being able to communicate over the internet connection. When I disable the LAN, the internet connection returns.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    It turns out that in
    System Preferences->Network->Show: Network Port Configurations
You can change the order of the networking by dragging the Port Configurations.
Network sharing wasn't working for me because Ethernet was above Airport, therefore Airport wasn't being used as the internet connection. Having dragged Airport above Ethernet, it is now being used for the internet, and the sharing across the Ethernet works quite soundly.
