Sharing iTunes account is confusing my storage settings.

I share the same iTunes library as my dad. He's really into his music and so in the library has 1332 songs that cover around 5000 minutes. Of course, I don't really like his music but I have my own music within that library too. When I sync my phone to my computer, I select the songs I want to be synced into my phone in order not to get any of my dad's music. But all of a sudden, my dad's music is on my phone but it is not 'downloaded' it just has a little cloud on it. This is quite irritating because now my phone is telling me I have no free storage because my 'Audio' section is so full with songs that I have not downloaded onto my phone from iTunes. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
We have not subscribed to iTunes match so it is not that issue, and I have turned off 'Show All Music' on my settings and the songs are no longer on my phone now but they are still taking up my storage?
How can i fix this, somebody please help!!

You should each have your own user account on the computer. Log into the computer using your own account. You will have your own unique iTunes library. That will prevent the two of you from getting things mixed up and otherwise cross contaminated.

  • Migration Assistant (PC to Mac) and Shared iTunes Account

New Mac user here (other than iPhone), so be gentle.
So a couple of issues I need input on/help with, I'll try to keep it as short as possible. The short version is this...my wife and I both have iPhones which we've managed using a single iTunes account but separate libraries on our PC. With the addition of her MacBook Pro, looking for the best way to move forward that will allow her to manage her iPhone from her MacBook while I continue to manage mine with my PC without either of us losing access to currently shared purchases.
Now for the long version...When my wife and I first got iPhones 2 years ago, we kept a single shared iTunes account for ease of sharing music/apps...but have kept separate libraries. It seems to be increasingly difficult with new iOS updates and now an additional device (her new MacBook Pro) to maintain the libraries. For instance, Apps that one of us downloads that the other does not want automatically show up in the other's library or on their device. We have also had some some confusion with having multiple phone numbers linked to the one account. But I can't help think that we're too far down this path to go to separate accounts. If she got her own account would that not mean her losing access to any paid music/apps that we currently share? Then of course there's the issue of sharing future purchases. I'm clueless as how to handle this.
The other issue is migrating iTunes music/apps over to her new MacBook Pro from our PC. I went ahead and did this last night...but what I didn't realize is because the two computers had different usernames...her MacBook created a new username for the files so the only way to access the migrated music is for her to login as a different user. Is there anyway to easily fix this? I'm also concerned because of the shared iTunes account and multiple libraries, that even when I get the migration sorted out there will be issues with where her new Mac is looking for files. On our PC, the directory structure has become a bit convoluted...with the shared music/Apps spread out in multiple folders...
\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (contains my library and all purchases)
\My Documents\My Music\Her iPhone\ (contains her library and all purchases)
Not to mention the fact that when I migrated over, I migrated over everything...including all the music/apps that are not in her library.
Keep in mind I'm moderately PC literate...but completely Mac illiterate. Any and all help/input appreciated...thanks!

Open the Users folder on the internal drive, locate the migrated folder, drag it to the desktop, and provide your administrator password.

  • HT4859 I shared itunes account with my daughter, had never synced my phone with computer, synced with computer and chose daughter's phone instead of create new phone, all phone contacts are now gone replaced with daughter's - is there no way to get contac

I shared itunes account with daughter's phone, never synced my phone with home computer through itunes, synced tonight with itunes but choose her iphone and it restored all her info on my phone, all my phone contacts, text messages and photos are gone  - I had auto backup to icloud daily - is there any way to get phone numbers and texts back off icloud?

If you have been backing up to iCloud your camera roll photos, text messages and other data and setting should be contained in the backup.  Restoring the backup to the phone should recover them.
To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings (which will erase the phone), then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.

  • How do i move only my library from a shared itunes account to my new account

How do i transfer only my library from a shared itunes account to my new account

I am confused by terminology, not knowing what you mean by "iTunes account".  You have a computer account which is your user area on a computer.  You have an Apple ID that you use to buy items from the iTunes Store.  You have a media collection which is an iTunes library.  So what is your "iTunes account" and what exactly do you want to do?

  • From Shared itunes account to ios 8 Family Sharing

In my family everyone has his/her own icloud account for sync and backup and we all use a common i tunes account so we can use one credit card and share bought apps music etc..
Now that ios8 will come, with family sharing, how will this work?
if i set the shared itunes account as the main account, i'll "loose" one of the family members (me) as i have a separate icloud account. i don't want that. is the solution to move my icloud account to the former shared itunes account?
also, will ios 7 users (i.e. with iphone 4) be able to be included in the new family sharing?

As far as I know this is the only info that Apple have so far released about Family Sharing : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
It's not clear to me from that page how you will be set up e.g. whether in your case you could set up the shared iTunes account as the 'organiser' account and then use that to invite each of your own cloud accounts into it. It may be a case of waiting until further details are released later this year.
I'm assuming that a device will have to be on iOS 8 to benefit from it - the bottom of that page includes :
Some features require iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Some features require a Wi‑Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.

  • Family sharing itunes account

Family of 5 sharing itunes account can each have an individual icould account?

Yes, in fact it's recommended that you do.  you can create separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs and still share the same iTunes ID (the IDs do not have to be the same).  You should also use separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime to avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  Using your individual iCloud IDs for iMessage and FaceTime will accomplish this.

  • Why does "itunes accounts" use data with all settings OFF?

Does anyone know how to keep "iTunes accounts" under system from using cellular data?
    I have already:
    1. Toggled OFF all settings in the "Use cellular data for" menu.
    2. Turned OFF all automatic downloads and any other options under iTunes/app store settings.
    3. Turned OFF Background App refresh.
    4. Turned OFF all options under iCloud sync menu.
Right now, the only thing that keeps "iTunes accounts" from pulling cellular data is turning Cellular Data completely OFF, but I don't want to do this because I lose some messaging and voicemail functions and I need to be able to use Find My Phone. I have two identical iPhone 5c's on this account. One is running iOs 8.1.2 and the above settings control it's data usage nicely. The other phone is running iOs 8.1.3 and this one uses 50-100 mb a day even with all the above settings off and the phone almost always on wifi.
I am aware that the phone will lose it's wifi connection when asleep, but that shouldn't be a problem if all the apps/settings are already set not to use cellular data. What am I missing. I've read a bunch of threads on this issue and they all suggest settings I already have OFF.

My personal phone is on 8.1.2. My daughter's phone is 8.1.3.
It is her phone that is currently having this problem, but I reported it under my account; sorry for the confusion.
My phone has had some data problems in the past, but I have been able to control them by keeping almost all data options OFF and the overall switch ON. My usage is back to less than 50 mb per month which makes sense since my phone is almost always on wifi and I don't use data dense applications.
Everything about my daughter's phone is the same as mine except for the 8.1.3 upgrade. She does use things like Instagram more than I do, but I have them all set to not use Cellular Data and the option to change these settings is locked. When I look at the usage on her phone, it isn't her apps that are pulling unexpected data; it's "iTunes accounts" under system services. All the options under iTunes/App Store (auto downloads, home sharing, etc.) and all the iCloud options are already OFF.

  • HT4623 I updated my phone today on a shared itunes account ( with my daughter ).  We are both getting each other's messages now.  Seems to be tied to I message.  Any suggestions?

I updated my phone today on our family itunes account.  I currently have the iphone 4 and needed updates. At the end of the update I got a message that my phone info would now be the same as my daughter's ( who usually uses the itune account). I didn't have a yes or no option. It was a statement.  Now I am getting her text messgaes and she is getting mine if the other person has imessage.  I also got her app's when my phone updated.... HELP!

    Hi, jandmmiller.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on his device.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.  Once this is done, I would recommend creating a new Apple ID specifically for iMessage and FaceTime here.  Then he would need to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime with the new Apple ID.

  • Shared Itunes account to new account - deleting Icloud information

I have always shared an Itunes account with my soon to be ex-husband, who will be keeping the account.  I need to remove my Iphone information (contacts notes etc) from Icloud but keep those contacts in my phone.  I have my own i tunes account already.  How do I make sure I can delete my information from my husbands account but not lose the contacts in my phone

Go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.  After everything is turned off you can safely scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from your phone, not from iCloud.  If his phone will continue to use thie account it will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on your phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting your contacts and other information from the old account, and deleting his contacts and other information from yours).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.
This will not move your photo stream, however.  If you have photos in photo stream that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account.  If your computer is syncing with your iCloud account, you can download your photo stream photos to your computer directly.  If not, you will need either open them one by one and save them to your camera roll or use an app like PhotoSync, which will wirelessly transfer photos from your photo stream album to your computer all at once.  (Without using an app like this your computer will only import camera roll photos, not photo stream photos.)
Finally, to change the ID used for purchasing go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign back in using your new ID.  To change the ID for iMessage go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in with your new ID.  Go to Settings>FaceTime and do the same thing.

  • HT5622 IOS 7 problem, shared itunes account

When I recently downloaded IOS7, it asked me if i wanted to link my phone number to my itunes account.  Foolishly, I said yes.  Now all of incoming text go to me and my wife (we share an itunes account), and my outgoing text to her also go to me.  Any ideas how to undo this?

It isn't text message, but imessage.  This occur because you guys are sharing apple id.
One of you will need an new apple id for imessage/facetime and icloud.  You can still use the same apple id for music and apps.
In the meantime on either devices, go to settings - message - send&receive - either uncheck or delete the apple id.
Then whomever gets the new id, go back to the above setting and input it there.

  • Shared itunes account

So I've had an iPhone for a while and my kids have had an older iPod Touch. We've been sharing a user name on iTunes. They have purchased a number of apps that they would like to retain.  I've just bought them both their very own latest generation iPod Touches and would like to set them up properly.  The goals are:
    1) To have them be able to continue using the Apps that they have already purchased.
    2) To let them have their own names on the iPods (It's calling them both "John" which is my name.
    3) Long-term I'm thinking they will eventually leave our home and want their own iTunes account.
So what are my options? This is all very confusing to me. Should I set them up their own accounts now and lose the huge investment we've spent on apps?  Or should I continue sharing my account?  And how the heck do I rename their device with their own names?
    Help.
Thank you all and Merry Christmas!
    John

Ok I figured out item #2 since it will let me manually rename their ipods. But still don't know the others.

  • What is best? My wife and I sharing itunes account or having separate accounts?

This itunes/icloud is confusing to me. Should my wife and I have separate itunes accounts. Will icloud keep our phones data separate? Why does it always want to load an app I purchase on my phone to her phone? I also have an ipod and dont want all the apps loaded on my phone when I plug into itunes. Please help me?

    Get seperate accounts.
My wife and I each have an account, but the method of paying for songs and apps come from the same bank account.
What you buy on your account will load on all the divises that have the same iCloud on it. So if you and your wife each have an ipad, iphone, mac and so on, when you buy something it will show up on her devices too.
Accounts are free, get seperate ones.

  • How to remove music from a shared itunes account?

so my dad and I share an itunes account so all of the music that he buys shows up on my phone with a little cloud by it to download on my phone. I can click on the song and it will play so im not sure why the cloud button is there but is there any possible way to stop this from happening because its using up a ton of memory that I could be using? I'm assuming there is a setting in itunes that can turn this off?
