Sharing iTunes playlist from the same computer

I just set up my new iMac to allow the iTunes library to be shared by several people using the one computer. The playlists did not transfer over though, just the entire library of music. Is it possible to share the playlists as well as the library?
Thanks

Yes, you should be able to either copy the individual songs from one library to another or, for economy of space, add the file from it's existing location into an alternate library. Whether or not you can do this now depends on the status of your various accounts and sharing options. For example, you may need to grant read only access to each of the other users for each music folder in each user account.
Here is a link to the Apple Support Doc: How to use multiple iPods with one computer which should give more information on the various options.
Instead of multiple libraries, I use method two with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
etc.
I currently manage our family's four iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • The same itunes Library and playlists on the same computer with two systems

I want to have the same itunes library and playlists on the same computer with the two different Os 10.3.9 and 10.4.9 each one on the different disk. without copy this in the itunes folder (because my library its 30Gb)
I have the same user name on the Os. I use the same version of itunes in both systems
I use my ipod to play the library but its not the best solution (i lost my library in ipod twice because I confused from what os was synchronized)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Amalgamate the two iTunes libraries. Then load iTunes and hold down the Option/Alt ⌥ key and then choose "Choose Library" and then point both copies of iTunes to use the combined iTunes library.

  • How do I copy songs from one itunes library to another itunes library on the same computer?

I want to share some songs in my iTunes library with my granddaughter's iTunes library, both of which are located on the same computer.  I managed to copy one of the songs through Finder to the location where the music resides, but it doesn't appear when I access her iTunes.  Can someone tell me an easy way to copy only certain songs from one iTunes library to another iTunes library on the same computer?

i'm retiring my old computer (with windows xp) and bought a new computer (with windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer. I also have my ipods, iphone sync'd in the old computer so i want to make sure that things won't get messed up (my apps, playlists, etc) when i move over everything to the new computer and sync all my devices with the new computer.
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
    C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Sync AND stream from the same computer/itunes?

Is it possible to sync only my movies from my powerbook to my apple TV (to store them on the ATV) and then stream any additional media (music, podcasts, etc.) from the same computer that is sync'd? Everytime I try to it seems to only let me do one or the other.
How do I set it up???
    Thanks

Yes - the sync library automatically streams any content in the library not synced to AppleTV due to space issues or due to custom sync configuration.
You need to set up custom syncing of just you movies using the Dveice tabs for tha AppleTV in iTunes - when itunes is running anything else is available to stream.

  • Multiple itune users on the same computer

Is it possible to have two seperate itunes running on the same computer? My husband and I share a computer and both have ipods. We both have different tastes in music so we would like to be able to access our own itunes instead of having to share a library with all the music together.
He currently has itunes set up with all his music on the computer at home. I have been running my itunes at work and would like to be able to bring my stuff home. Is this possible?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Adding songs to iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • Can i have 2 Apple IDs using the same playlist from the same pc?

can i have 2 Apple IDs using the same playlist from the same pc?

Easiest way is to create separate computer logins with all your own info including your own iTunes library.
I recommend each individual not have more than one AppleID because you will have purchases on multiple accounts
You can use more than one AppleID in an iTunes library.
    AppleID/iTunes =used for purchases.
iTunes library = iTunes and all media on your computer.

  • Can you share music between iTunes accounts on the same computer

Can you share music between iTunes accounts on the same computer? My kids iPods are under my account now with all of our shared music but they want their own iTunes accounts. I would like to transfer the music and apps that they purchased under my account to their new accounts... Is this posible?

Did you enable the display of system files and hidden files and folders?
by the way, how can i stop this from happening another time.
    Make a backup!
i had music there for over 6 years.
Well you must have updated iTunes once or twice in that time. Do you have some sort of "tidying" app that is supposed to clean "unnecessary" files. If so perhaps it is too aggressive.

  • Cannot sync my iphone with itunes as it says it is already synced with another itunes library on the same computer.

On connecting my iphone 4S to itunes I am unable to add any music from my itunes library and get a message saying it is already synced with another itunes library on the same computer. As far as I am aware I only have one itunes library on the computer. Does anyone know how to fix this error please?

  • Creating two iTunes accounts on the same computer

I'm moving in with my girlfriend. She has her own iTunes library on her computer. I have downloaded all my music and applications from my iTunes library on my computer to my iPhone. I want to be able to download all music and applications on my iPhone onto my girlfriend's computer while keeping it separate from her music, apps, etc. This way, we hope to be able to manage her iPod and my iPhone from the same computer without worrying that iTunes will sync my music onto her iPod or that my apps won't get deleted by getting synced with her account.
Is it possible to do this? If so, how? Perhaps this is a dumb question whose answer is right in front of me. But as yet I have been unable to figure out if/how using the online iTunes tutorials. Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Load the library which doesn't contain the songs and drag them into the open iTunes application window. If you need to move them between different computer user accounts, put them into /Users/Shared/.

  • Multiple iTunes Accounts on the Same Computer

iTunes states that you can have multiple iTunes accounts on the same computer. But when I attempt to put in a new user account (for my wife so she can have her own music library) my own iTunes account pops up when I go to load iTunes while in her user account. And if I create any account that is NOT an 'Admistrator' account iTunes refuses to install itself as the "user does not have the privileges - consult your Administrator". So I am lost as to what I need to do to create separate iTunes accounts where each person has their own iTunes library and thus their own music. Perplexed...
