Sharing Keynote 6 files.....

I am a math teacher and I share/exchange Keynote files via box.net (or sometimes dropbox) with other teachers.  Previous to this new version of Keynote, this was not an issue.  It seems as though all files created in Keynote 6 will not show up in box.net.  In dropbox, they show as a multitude of files.  What is the best and easiest way to share to one keynote file created in Keynote 6?  I've tried to export the Keynote 6 file to Keynote 09 and the exported file has many errors with equations created with Mathtype.  I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro running OS X Mavericks and 8 gig of ram.

Getting Keynote Presentation to Open Files in Dropbox -- on iPhone 5
I'm trying to view (latest version of) Keynote files already uploaded into Dropbox, on my iPhone 5 which now is running both Keynote and Dropbox.
When I view my Dropbox files on my iPhone, all the ones now labeled as .key show as 0.00B of content, but every other file format opens just fine (.jpg, .png).
When I'm on my Macbook Pro and view Dropbox, my .key files now click through to only .jpgs, metadata and index.zip but no actual Keynote presentation.  Note:  Someone else uploaded their Keynote into this Dropbox and I'm just trying to access it correctly.
What am I doing wrong?
I've read about changing index.zip files to .key, and I've tried this on my laptop, but these won't open on my laptop either -- which also has Keynote.
I MUST have a mobile slideshow from Keynote screens on my iPhone 5 by Monday for a deadline, and this is creating a real problem for me.
Any immediate help appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

  • Sharing keynote file as a pdf results in a corrupt file?

I have added graphics to the keynote presentation by copying from Preview.app.
When I share and export as  PDF, it crashes acrobat and other pdf viewers on
    Windows and Linux.
This is a reproducible error and has happened to a couple of my colleagues recently.
This is a new bug as I have used this workflow many times in the past without problems.
How can I avoid this? Is this a bug?

Is your problem possibly related to the Open Type Font Problem occuring in OS X 10.6.7 and later?

I have no fix at the moment, only to use a Mac running an older OS X installed. The PDF-Creation for iWork Files works there correctly

  • Sharing Keynote files

How can I email, or share a keynote presentation.  Most are larger than email servers allow.

I use Dropbox for this purpose, it works well and is free for the basic storage amount of 1 GB.

  • Cannot open Keynote files

Since upgrading the entire office to Mavericks and the new iWork suite, we are having major problems in sharing Keynote files. Seems no matter where it is authored, when sent to another coworker, the attached andn downloaded Keynote file cannot be opened.
We have all upgraded to Mavericks and the latest versions of the new iWork apps.

As a further update, the problem appears to be with transferring Keynote files from one Mac to another. For example, when adding a Keynote file as an attachment to an email, it loads a "ghost" file into the email that is typically less than 100K and cannot be opened. We tried a number of methods for attaching Keynote files in an email. None work.
We then tried uploading a Keynote file as a zipped Google Doc. This produced very strange results in Google Docs (lists of hundreds of files within the zip file), but regardless, we could download the zip file and open it in Keynote 2 out of 3 times.
The final method we tried worked 50% of the time. With this method we saved a zipped file into Dropbox and could retrieve it. This would not work if we did not zip the Keynote file.

  • Unable to save Keynote file to Windows Shared Drive

Have recently installed Mavericks 10.9, and Keynote Version 6.0.1.
I am having difficulty saving any Keynote files to a Windows network Share. The network Share was added with domain credentials of the Windows Environment, so permissions are not the issue as far as the share is concerned.
When attempting to save any file, existing or new to the network Share, Keynote advises that there are not sufficient permissions to be able to save to this folder. If I copy and paste the item into the folder, it works as normal.
It looks to be an issue with Keynote saving with local Mac Credentials instead of Windows Credentials, however there are no issues saving other type of files to the network share, just Keynote.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a known issue, as you are doing the work around is to save to the Mac and then transfer to the the share folder. Hopefully this may be sorted when Apple completes the series of updates we are expecting.

  • Why can I not open an unzipped keynote file folder on my iPad or MAC?

Why does my keynote file get converted into a folder and get zipped when I try and e-mail it?  It didn't used to be like this?  It used to be just a .key file.
Then as a result this creates a problem in trying to transfer the keynote file to another iPad.  The other iPad cannot pull the newly converted folder into Itunes because Itunes only allows you to upload a single file and not a folder.  Plus, I can't open the file on a Mac either.  It says keynote file not supported.
    Any suggestions?

There was an option in the Old Keynote "Save new documents as packages". If it's off, the document would be automatically zipped. As a result, you couldn't "Show Package" on it.
if you selected it, it would save as a package and you could "Show Package"
This second one is what the new Keynote is doing and there's no option otherwise. SO, I believe you'll have to .zip the file yourself before emailing in order for it to send successfully. However, I'll have to play around a bit more specifically with the iPad interactions.
OH, just thought about another option. Have you tried sharing via iCloud instead? It provides a link that can be pasted in an email and loaded from both Mac's and iPads (and PC's if they have a recent browser, it'll load in iWork for iCloud).

  • Protecting content / locking master Keynote file

Apple, it's been over 7 years now the iWork community has been screaming for a fix to the most glaring problem with Keynote... being able to protect the content or password protecting the file from being modified.
There are so many ways to address this critical error:
    1. Password protect the master file to disallow changes/editing.
    2. Password protect elements of editing and copying within the master file
    3. Generating a player (like PowerPoint) that allows control but not modification.
There is currently zero way to protect source content when sharing a 'Keynote' file.
Saving the file as a movie does not allow for presentation control.
It's absolutely absurd that after 7 years this has not been addressed.
    My question is;
Does Apple have any intention of implementing a way to secure master files, content, from theft & modification?
This one feature would propel 'Keynote' from being a hobbyists toy - to being the de-facto presentation software for business.
Amazing software, but 100% useless for business until this error is addressed.
Is it that hard to put password protection on a file?

For the first issues, what you can do is rename the field in the second table and make it read-only, thus preventing the user from interacting with it. To automatically copy the value form the first field to the second, you can use the following custom Validate script for the first field:
// Custom Validate script for text field
    getField("text2").value = event.value;
Alternatively, you can set the second field to be a calculated field, and use the following custon Calculate script:
// Custom Calculate script for the second text field
    event.value = getField("text1").valueAsString;
Replace "text1" and "text2" with whatever you named the fields.
For the second question, if you make the total field read-only, the user won't be able to interact with the field.

  • How can I open a keynote file that was made in Keynote Beta and downloaded from the web?

    I have Keynote version 5.3
I want to edit a Keynote presentation made originally in Keynote Beta on the web.
When I download it in .key it wont let me edit the file because it says I need a newer version of Keynote.
When I try to download Keynote 6.0.1 I'm told I can't because I need a newer operating system!! I currently have 10.7.5 and there are no new updates.
Can I NOT open a keynote file that was made in Keynote Beta??!

  • Can't open Keynote files on my Mac - but they open fine on other Macs

+I had this query in the Keynote 8 section, but was getting no replies - so I'm posting it here too.+
If I attempt to open any Keynote files, I now get this error message.
    "Can't open file "+File path: file name+.key"
To clarify, the text in italics above shows the actual file's file path and name.
The file will then will appear on screen, but is unresponsive to any clicks or menu commands.
The files will open successfully on other Macs, so they aren't corrupt.
The same applies when creating a new file from Keynote: All screen menus / buttons are dead - all I can do is drag the main window around the screen.
I've tried to reinstall Keynote, but this hasn't resolved the problem. I've checked that I'm running the latest version (4.04 of Keynote 8) - and I have nearly 12gb free on my hard disc. I've also thrown out any Keynote related files I could find in library or preferences in case some application settings had been corrupted. (Having said that, I don't know if I caught them all - as I just used Spotlight to find files with the name Keynote.)
Are there specific preference / system files that I should look for and dump? Is there an easy way to do a complete uninstall of Keynote so I can try another install? Or is this a symptom of something else?
    All ideas gratefully appreciated!

All the issues I describe in my questions around this time re: Keynote were actually symptoms of a soon-to-die laptop. The Hard Disc was corrupting, and Keynote was the first application to be affected.

would you plz test the keynote file, which was working just great before bringin he

I tried your file on the iPad and Keynote crashed. Then I transferred the file to my Mac, opened it in Keynote on Mac, saved it, and synched back to iPad. Now I can open the file on the iPad -- it takes some time due to all the images. Also, here are some delays between the slides when presenting on the iPad.
BTW: Make sure to use the latest version of Keynote on Mac (5.0.5).

  • Questions on organizing/sharing music files on 3 PC networked drive

I just added 1Tb network drive to 3 pc home network... I am planning on moving my iTunes music folder from the older, smaller network drive. I exceeded the 160GB size of the old drive when converting all of the WMA losselss files to Apple lossless while maintaining the old WMA files(I still think the Windows Media Player system is superior). With the new addition to our network, I am planning on the 3 pcs sharing music files... (my wife has been using iTunes for a while, I have just recently went over to the dark side)
What is the best way to organize the files??
-How to shuffle all without the folder of Christmas & Holiday music playing.
    -Segregate each users individual files.
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated, I know it would save a lot of time and pain instead of the trial and error method.

Thanks, Jason & Mike. This is how I resolved the problem. Turned out the disk with the data was in NTFS format. Neither my eMac nor my wife's Carbon iMac (prehistoric, in other words) was able to read it, on repeated attempts. In process I discovered (to my surprise) that the external hard drive attached to my eMac (a 320 Gig My Book) was formatted in FAT 32 format, and that the PC laptop (Thinkpad) read from it, and wrote to it, without any problem. (Is FAT 32 less than optimal for use with a pre-Intel Mac?). So I just copied the needed files from the NTFS disk to the FAT 32 disk, via the Thinkpad. When I reconnected the FAT 32 drive to the eMac, it turned out that it was easy [with some fiddling] to put the titles of the new music into the iTunes Library, without having to copy the music itself into iTunes. Making playlists does still seem to have to go manually. Sometimes the "New Playlist from Selection" option automatically gives a name (the original name) to the album from which the music came, sometimes it doesn't. Rationale not clear to me. Other problem: often the sequence is jumbled (this is after I added the whole collection of folders containing music to my iTunes Library in one fell swoop). Usually it was possible to correct this by copying track names for albums one album at a time from the external HD (in Columns view, selecting all the tracks in each folder simultaneously) directly into the playlist; the playlist name then always had to be copied or typed in separately. I don't know if I'm missing an easier route. Also, I see that I have version 4.7.1 of iTunes - I'll download a newer version! Don't know whether newer version will affect what I want to do in a positive sense.

  • In iMovie when I try to share a project to a file on an external hard drive it will work the first time but subsequently it says it is sharing but gives no time and file name and in fact just sits there not sharing the file.

I have iMovie 10.0.4.  I want to transfer some old DV tape videos to MPEG 4 files to be stored on a 4 TB external drive. I successfully imported the video to iMovie, created a project by moving all captured files into a project and the first time I shared the project to a file  it worked as expected.  Every subsequent try to transfer another video would fail to transfer.  When I clicked save it gives the warning that it is too big for iCloud, iso I click create on this computer.  The progress circle comes up with no indication of progress.  The show activity drop down just says sharing to "file" no file name as in the first one and indicates no time remaining.  In fact it just sits there apparently doing nothing.  I'v tried it a half dozen times, deleted everything and started over.  It transfers the first project to file and then nothing on additional tries.  What do I have wrong, am I missing something?

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

  • How do I move a keynote file from my computer to my ipad?

I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.8 and an Ipad version 7.0.6. How can I move a Keynote file from my Mac to my Ipad? I do not have Icloud on my Mac.

Have you tried e-mailing the Keynote file to yourself? You can then press and hold on the attachment in Mail and choose to open in Keynote. However the results may depend on your version of Keynote.

  • How can I make Keynote files read-only (eg: to share with students)?

I would like to share some keynote files with students, and I would like to set them up as read-only, so that the students can tap the screen, read my presentation, but not alter it.  I've tried to set the files up as read-only on my iMac desktop, but when I load the file onto my iPad, it's still editable.
Any ideas re: how to make Keynote files read-only?
I've tried to export the files as PDF and load them into iBook, but some of Keynote's basic "build" functions won't work this way.  Specifically, I have files set up with questions and answers (ie - a question appears, and you have to tap the screen to see the answer, but this "build" function seems to disappear when I get it to show up in iBook).
Any ideas how to make Keynote files read-only?  I am happy to use another program, but I want the students to tap the screen in order to see the answer to a question.
    Thanks!

as long as $PATH is set, you shouldn't need to reconnect them (i think).  if you send the list of apps through | awk -F '/' '{print $NF}' | that'll strip the path
/edit: added the "(i think)" part

  • Screen sharing and file sharing not working on LAN

This is not a Mavericks specific problem since it existed before I upgraded to Mavericks.  I have a LAN that consists of 3 MBPs and 1 MacPro.
Local screen sharing and file sharing works fine on all of these computers except for one MBP.  From this MBP I am able to connect to all of the other computers for screen sharing and file sharing.  But I can't connect to this particular MBP for screen sharing or file sharing from any of the other Macs.
This MBP shows up in the left hand side column under "Shared" on all the other computers.  But I am unable to make a connection from any computer to the problematic MBP.  I get the message, "There was a problem connecting to the server "xxxxxxxx".  The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time".
I have tried toggling off and on screen sharing and file sharing with no effect.  One probably pertinent strange thing that I notice is that under the Screen Sharing set up the green button next to "Screen Sharing:On" is green.  But the message under it states:
"Other users can access your computer's screen
at vnc://johnmacbookproretina/ or by looking for “John MacBook Pro” in the Finder sidebar."
The problem is that my computer name is "John MacBook Pro" and the LocalHostName is "JohnMBPr.local".  I believe that at some point in the past the computer name and/or LocalHostName was "johnmacbookproretina".
Similiarly, under File Sharing I am informed:
"Other users can access shared folders on this computer, and administrators all volumes, at “afp://johnmacbookproretina” or “smb://johnmacbookproretina”."
I would appreciate any help I could get to resolve this perplexing issue.  Thanks.
    John

I've finally been able to solve my own problem.
File sharing and screen sharing on the problematic MBP was being blocked by firewall rules that had been set up several weeks ago when I had installed a trial version of DoorStop X firewall software.  I had previously trashed the app when the 30 day trial ended.  I did not realize that the software had left a set of firewall rules in the Library/StartupItems folder.  Among other things, the rules were set to deny access to the computer on the ports used for file sharing and screen sharing.  Once I trashed the DoorStopStartup folder in the StartUpItems folder all the connection problems resolved with a computer restart.
