Sharing library from 10.3.9 with 10.2.8

I have two computers on a home network:
1) Mac G4, running 10.3.9, directly connected to the Linksys router, model WRT54G.
2) iMac G3, running 10.2.8, wirelessly connected in another room with a Linksys ethernet bridge (WET11).
I would like the iMac to access the G4 library because that is where all my music is stored. (no music is on the iMac right now).
Both computers use iTunes 6: In preferences->sharing->I have checked "look for shared music" and "share my music". Under the source list on the G4, I can see and play the iMac Library great. However, the iMac is not showing the G4's Library.
I went into the G4 System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall and made sure that the "iTunes Music Sharing (3689)" port was enabled. On the iMac, that port wasn't listed... so I tried clicking "New" and specified the 3689 port. Restarted both computers, re-launched iTunes. No change. Funny because ordinary file sharing and internet access works fine on both computers... it's just the iMac cannot share the G4's iTunes library.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

To anyone who might read my original message: I found a way to make it work.
On the G4, I created an alias for every album folder in my iTunes Music folder. Then, I went to Finder->Go->Connect to Server->, and connected to my iMac. Next I transferred all those newly created alias folders to a new folder on the iMac's desktop.
Then, on the iMac I opened the iTunes application, went to File->Add to Library, and found the alias folders on the desktop. Pressed "choose" and after a little time they were all added to my iTunes library on the iMac.
Works great as long as I have the G4 volume icon connected on the iMac desktop.

  • HT5922 Volume control Itunes Shared Library from Macbook air played through iPad

    Hi everyone,
I am using iPad Air to airplay through use of iTunes shared library from Macbook, to Play to my Apple TV using the Remote App from apple on the iPad.
I noticed that the swipe up control screen volume control does not affect the volume on my speakers of the Denon which is perfectly connected with apple tv. The only thing which controls the volume is the Denon volume control.
The iTunes  volume control on the Macbook also do not work with Apple TV when airplaying
I assume this is because of the Denon Reciever, but would like to hear if others who are connecting directly without a multimedia amplifier and speakers are also unable to raise volume using itunes control or not?
Thans in advance for any feedback given.

I think this may be a clue to the problem. When you purchased the MBA did you restore any of your personal data from a prior backup? In particular, did you restore any prior data in the Music folder?
Or, did you simply launch iTunes and enable iTunes Match?

  • How to copy media from shared library from ipad

    Hello,
I have home sharing turned on and i have a local computer as a media server which stores all my media files. I can access the data from within my network on all my devices.
I am hoping there is an easy, with just using the ipad(iphone), to choose a movie from the library to take with me on a trip. It is easy to copy media from computer to computer with itunes. I was hoping there is an equally easy way from the ipad or iphone.
For example, launching the video app allows you to access shared libraries. Is there a way to copy that content to the ipad or iphone from an app?
FYI, i have all pc based computers
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    Hi ralph,
Can i sync a particular movie without logging into the pc? Thats what I am hoping to accomplish. I want to navigate to a movie thats in my home shared library "from my ipad" and copy it to my ipad. I just cant find a way to do it

  • How can I migrate an Aperture library from an external HDD with Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) format?

How can I migrate an Aperture library from an external HDD with Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) format?
I used to store my pictures on an external hard drive using the latest version of Aperture. Now I tried migrating my Aperture library to Photos. However, after a short moment an error message popped up telling me that "Photos was unable to make a copy of your library before preparing it. Photos does not have the necessary permissions...".
My external HDD doesn't need any permission repairs nor is the system prohibited to read from or write to it.
Thanks for any advice in advance!

My guess is that the encryption is the problem for the new app.

No, Lightroom catalogs cannot be on a networked (shared) drive, and they do not support simultaneous multi-user access

  • 9.4.1 update: can not open an other library from an another computer with same update !!

new iphoto 9.4.1 update: can not open an other library from my second computer with same update !
this always worked properly on iphoto before ! reorganize my photo library from my other computer will break my neck !
the first  library from my first computer works ! thanks for help !! regards

So you have two identical copies of the iPhoto library on two different machines? YES
and again How does the option launch and using the select library command not work ->
it simply does not accept the copy of the imac library . if i want to choose the library, it is not accepted to be chosen.
so i tried over network to choose the other way round as you suggested (labtop library on the imac)  and it worked , but it ruined (as i thought) my original library of the imac ! i could restore it from the back up , BUT this is simply strange, i can not find the restored libary of the imac on it´s original place  ! it must be hidden somewhere !

  • Sharing iPhoto Library from HD on iMac with SSD/HD

I'm looking for guidance on how to share the iPhoto library among users on a single iMac from the HD drive, as opposed to the SSD.  The shared folder appears to only extend to the SSD and I'd prefer to set up the machine so photo content resides on the HD.  I'm also still exploring the possibilities of restricting some user's levels of access.  I've seem helpful threads suggesting setting up a media account access and allowing other users "read" access only, which appeals to me, but I guess I need to verify that will work if the library resides on the HD drive.  If I need to allow all users full access rights, so be it.  I'm running the latest version of Mountain Lion and iPhoto (and also using the latest version of Aperture on the iPhoto library and all photos are maintained in the library (no reference photos yet, though I suppose I'd prefer not to foreclose that possibility).  Thanks in advance.

Put the Library on the HD. In your set up the HD will perform just like an external. So:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the HD.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your SSD to free up space.
Now you can share it as you wish. For Read Only access:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

  • How can I access the Home Sharing Library from my iPad?

We have an ipad 2 with ios 7, and an imac with itunes 11.1.3
Just heard about home sharing and want to use this - surprised we haven't heard of it before
home sharing is turned on in itunes (file > home sharing).
home sharing is on for the ipad (settings > music)
They are both connected to the same wifi network (usually our computer doesnt use wifi and is wired, but we turned wifi on just for this)
When I open music in the ipad (even after continually quitting and reopening the app) there is no 'more' button in the bottom right that there is supposed to be.
What is wrong? How do I access the library from the ipad? Help please!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
More does more than home sharing, so it's odd that it isn't there, even if home sharing wasn't working for some reason. Are you sure you are in the music app and not the iTunes App.

  • Error deploy shared library from Enterprise Manager IAS10.1.3.5.0

    Hi,
I am trying deploy one shared library in my OC4J instance (prd_oc4j) from Enterprise Manager, but when i run my application its not loading this library (error missing class), but when i put this shared library in file server.xml without Enterprise Manager my application run sucessfully.
Help me please or this problem is a bug?
    Tks,
    Haysar Lelis

    If finally found the cause of the problem, lack of PermGen space for the home instance;
When opening the EM Console most of the times i was able to open the login page, under stress opening this page failed most of the times.
    The ascontrol-application.log pointed me in the right direction;
    10/09/07 15:26:59.111 ascontrol: Servlet error
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
When monitoring the PermGen of the home instance, is showed that the system was running out of PermGen space.
Increasing the PermGen size for the home instance in opmn.xml did the trick
    <data id="java-options" value="-Xrs -server -XX:MaxPermSize=128M......"

  • Cannot load shared library from Java on AIX

I am working on a 64-bit AIX5.2 machine. I created a hello world program using JNI. When I run it, System.loadLibrary() does not find my shared library. After looking into it for several hours, I realized it might be something to do with my 32 bit mode build. The reason I am building as 32 bit is because I thought it would work on both 32 and 64 bit platforms.
This is how I compile my C++ file and build the shared library:
    xlC_r -brtl -q32 -c -I"." -I"/usr/java5_64/include" -c NativeHello.cpp -o NativeHello.o
    xlC_r -brtl -G -q32 -o libNativeHello.so NativeHello.o
When I run my HelloWorld java program, it gives this error:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: NativeHello (A file or directory in the path name does not exist.)
However, when I change the build lines to use -q64 instead of -q32, my hello world program works just fine.
So I am suspecting that Java is not expecting my shared library that was compiled as 32 bit.
How can I correct this problem? Is there any flag that I might be missing? Or do I need to build separate libraries for 32 bit and 64 bit environment?
Thanks for your help in advance.

This is not a java problem.
    It is a VM problem.
So for the VM (vendor and version) that you are using it requires certain things.
It might be that the VM doesn't load 32 at all. Or that you have to do something different when you compile it.
A forum that is specific to your VM might be more productive (this site tends to be strongly solaris/linux/windows.)

  • How do I create a shared library from iPhoto when the file is too large to burn on DVD?

I  need to remove some photos (70 GB) to relieve a full hard drive.  I have exported and burned .jpg images on DVDs, but that is only useful as a worst case backup.  What I would like to have is a separate iPhoto Library for each calendar year of photos, so I could still view them in the albums and folders I have created to organize them.  I have done this before in an earlier version of iPhoto, and was able to create 2003 iPhoto Library, 2004 iPhoto Library, etc.  I put a copy on DVD (the full year fit on 1 DVD) and another copy on an external drive.
I am having problems doing this with iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2).  The iPhoto library for each year is too large to burn on DVD.  When I select certain albums from the year that will fit on DVD and use the Share>Burn commands, it creates a library with Events and Faces, but none of the albums are listed on the left.  The albums are important to organize the photos for viewing (birthdays, vacations, holidays, etc.)  I didn't always pay attention to labeling Events when I imported photos, so that is not an adequate alternative to my albums.
I was thinking that if I could create a library for the entire year, it might include my albums and folders. I would have space for this on my external hard drive.  However, I can find no way to create a library for the entire year and put it on my external drive - the only option is to burn a DVD or export .jpg images.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best suggestion: Buy some external USB or Firewire drives. Move your Library to one, back it up to another. A lot more reliable than DVD, a lot less work and much more convenient. For a start, you don't have to break up the library...

    TD

  • Moving iTunes library from a hard disk with bad sectors to new hard drive

I have tried to move my itunes library using the method proposed by Apple in the support section but it does not work because of a bad hard drive.
I change the itunes folder in preferences. I let itunes organize my music. However, when I select consolidate music everything starts OK but stops when it hits the bad sectors on the old hard drive.
I can copy the rest of the music to the new hard drive manually using finder. However, the music is not recognized in the new location only the old location.
I have tried many things including moving music to another hard drive and naming it the same as the old hard drive and then trying to consolidate it. That does not work. I have tried the method of changing the library.xml file to reflect the new folder. That does not work. I am at a stand still. I have invested much time rating the music and I do not want to lose that.
    Any suggestions?
    Tom

Thank Chris I have just done that. How do I now get them in to Itunes ?
If you simply copy the iTUnes folder to /Music/ and launch iTUnes, everythign will be there. No need to import anything.
This will work the same with iPhoto.
Simply copy the Photo library to /Pictures/ folder and launch iPhoto.
