Sharing master files with Lightroom 4

Several years ago I used Aperture and ended up switching to LR4, but miss a few of the features of Aperture.     I am trying to figure out a way of using Aperture to access some of my master files without having to duplicate my master files from LR4.    It is my understanding that if I import files into Aperture that the images go into a specific Aperture Library.    What I really liked about LR was that my master files could sit where ever I wanted them and the application only accessed the files rather than stowed the masters into a unique application library.

You can import images into Aperture as referenced originals, and reference them in their original location, without moving them into the aperture library. Only you must not move them, rename them, edit them in any way after importing them into Aperture, for that will break the connection between the version in Aperture and the referenced original master.

  • How do you know when the person that you've shared the file with has downloaded the file?

After the person get the email that says "I am sharing these files with you.   Click on the image below to view or download your file.", how do you know that they've viewed or downloaded the file?  Do you get an email message or is there something in the shared status that lets you know?

Thank you for your post. Although this is a feature for Buzzword, right now it's not possible to know if someone has viewed a file you've sent via Share. We are working to integrate Share/My Files/Buzzword so that this will be corrected in future.
Let me know if you have additional questions.

  • Sharing FCPX Pro Res 422 .mov master file with both Ps and Macs

I'm using FCPX 10.1.4 on Mac OS 10.10.2. I want to put a FCPX Pro Res 422 master file on a data DVD so it can be read and poled on both a Mac and PC using Quick Time 7. I tried using Toast 12 to create a data DVD playable on both a PC and Mac but it would not open on the PC. Any ideas what the problem might be or an alternative way to do this?
    Thanks

One additional possible point of confusion: I think you wrote (or meant to write)  "so it can be read and played."
A playable DVD is a very specific standard of filenames & compression sufficient to fit a two hour movie into 4.7GB of standard def video.  Simply writing any video file onto a disc (maybe marked as "DVD-R") never creates a DVD that is playable in standard DVD players.
Given that, you can transfer any file (up to 4.7GB) by writing it onto a data "DVD" disc.  However, as others point out, ProRes isn't windows-friendly (or good for small files) and just for seeing the video on other platforms, H.264 would be the right choice.

  • Lightroom export - original file with Lightroom modification data

    Hello, hello!
I have imported a folder of, for arguments sake, some JPEGs, TIFFS, and DND photos into Lightroom, leaving the files in place, and just linking them to the Lightroom Catalogue's Library. I have then made a whole load of 'modifications' to the photos in Lightroom (the data for these modifications is stored in the Lightroom Catalogue file, right?).
Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file? Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original? Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
    Thanks a lot! :-))

Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file?
Yes, but you should not export. Just hit Ctrl/Cmd+S to Save Metadata. the metadata will be embedded into the files. Note that the actual image will not be altered. That is, if you view the jpeg in an external viewer you will not see the adjustments made in Lightroom. Only Adobe products can interpred those.
Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original?
    Yes.
Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
Yes. When you open in Photoshop and it's a non-RAW file (e.g. JPEG or TIFF), there's an option somewhere in Camera RAW to be used for opening non-RAWs. The point is, those have to pass through Camera RAW, rather than opened directly in Photoshop, for metadata to be interpreted properly.

  • Looking for help for sharing pdf files with ipad from mac.  Pages only recognizes text.  What app should I use for file sharing pdf documents?

Looking for advice on how to share pdf files with iPad from Mac.   Pages seems to only recognize text.   What app is recommended for pdf documents?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
If I understand your question, you want to read pdfs on your iPad, not create or edit.
Drag pdf files to the iPad icon in Finder while connected to your computer via the USB cable.
They will show up in the iBooks application
(If you don't already have iBooks, it's a free download from the App Store.)
Once installed, there are two buttons at the top left of the Bookshelf.
One is Books, the other is Collections.
Tap Collections, and you'll see Books and PDFs.
    Tap PDFs and you're there.

  • Sharing digital files with non Adobe users

Can someone tell me how to share Adobe files with non-Adobe users? At the Adobe Max Conference, they mentioned that this was possible, but I'm not sure if this is something that is available now or just in the future. Thoughts, comments?
    Thanks,
    -JLUMBER

You first need to upload the file you want to share to Creative Cloud, then through the web interface (https://assets.adobe.com/files you can select the file in question, click the "Send Link" button near the top of the file list, and then click "Create Public Link".
This will make the file public and provide you with a link to share to your intended recipient.
    It actually works quite nicely.
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • Sharing video file with non CC member

    Dear All,
I have to share a large video file with a client who is NOT a creative cloud subscriber.  Can I do that?  How does the other person gain access to my creative cloud storage in order to download the video?  I am a Creative Cloud monthly subscriber.  Thanks
    Small Town Gal

    Thanks Nancy.
    Creative Cloud Connection
The install for Creative Cloud Connection ("desktop sync") is available from the Creative Cloud Apps page at https://creative.adobe.com/apps or from the Adobe Application Manager. But it seems you already have it installed an just need to launch it.
Which operating system are you on? On Windows you can launch Creative Cloud Connection from the Start Menu, and on Mac OS X from the Applications folder. Once launched it will re-open upon computer restart by default. You can change this if wanted via the Preferences.
    Your Online File Storage
Just sign in with your Adobe ID at https://creative.adobe.com. You should see a Files menu in the top left of the web application.
From the Actions menu you can choose Upload to upload files. You can also drag and drop upload files (but not folders) from the Windows Explorer / Mac OS X Finder to the browser.
As a subscriber you should take advantage of the 20 GB storage provided for an individual subscription. There are some restrictions we have around certian file types, but we are working to improve that.

  • Opening aperture files with lightroom 4 in mountain lion

After changing to Mountain Lion have not been able to open files from Aperture library in Lightroom 4.
Has anyone experienced this? Solutions ??

You have said several time that you have been 'not able' to open files without giving any hint what problem you are haveing.
As I said, to access Originals from Aperture, export them.
If an Original is accessed by Aperture as Referenced, meaning that the file is stored outside the Aperture Library, then it can be used where it is. But be careful with originals that you intend to still use in Aperture. They should not be move, renamed, deleted, or altered without Aperture's "knowledge".

  • Can't open shared .ics file with iPhone

I am trying to sync my iPhone calendars with the calendar on my PC that is in .ics format.  The .ics file is located on a home server that allows both me and my wife to see each other’s calendars and its been working great.  Now, I want to be able to see my calendar from my iPhone 4 (with OS 5.1.1) .. and I’ve tried setting it up with:  settings --> mail, contacts, calendars --> add account --> other --> add subscribed Calendar.
With every possible config I can think of, I get the same response: "Calendar Subscription -- Unable to verify account information"
For server name, I’ve tried actual servername, ip address, etc; we do have security on the server but I put in the account name and password … ‘nuthin! “Unable to verify …”
Through the phone's browser, I am able to open up the folder on our server and see the.ics file. The path is xxxx.homeserver.com/webcal/nat_calendar.ics. I've tried sending an invite to myself, opening it in the phone, clicking on the link and I get this error: Cannot Subscribe: Could not subscribe to the calendar "nat_calendar.ics from "myservername".
Seems simple, what am I missing here.
    Any ideas?
    -- Nat

OK ... so not too many others have had this issue -- but for those in the future, here's how to solve it.  Go to this brilliant post by Joe Bradford:  essentially my problem as was his in part --  was caused by having the wrong MIME type in IIS (my webserver).  By going into the web server and changing the MIME type from application/octet-stream to text/calendar fixes the problem and the iPhone can now subscribe to the Outlook-generated calendar file (.ics).
Thankfully, I did not have the additional problem of an errant Byte Order Mark in the hexidecimal structure of the file which Joe also had to surgically remove (see issue 2 in post above).
(Given this was a cross platform issue -- Apple and MSFT -- I have to put this one at the feet of Apple for not coding the iPhone to open a webDAV (.ics) calendar file regardless of its MIME type ...)

  • Wifi sharing video files with Samsung HDD/Blu Ray player

How do I find my Samsung BD/HDD player and send video files to it? The manual says I need to download 'PC Share Manager' (yuk) surely I can just hunt for it on the network?
It's def connected, cos it's picking up stuff off the internet, but I want it to talk to the Mac!
    Thanks,
    Tim

No, there is no connection on the back of the C6500 to connect with the iPhone. You would also have to activate a tethering account ($25 per month) with AT&T if it was physically possible.

  • Recovering deleted hard drive files with Lightroom?

I accidentally deleted some files from my SD card and hard drive thinking I had them backed up, turns out they weren't. However, the photos still show up in my Lightroom collections, is there any way I can save the files that are on Lightroom to my hard drive? I'm running Lightroom 5 on a mac, if that helps.

    Follow these steps
Find, download and install and run an "undelete utility" program. There are free ones available for Windows, I don't know if there are free ones available for Mac. Run this on your hard disk and also on your camera card. If you are going to do this, then do so immediately; do not perform other tasks on your computer.
If that doesn't work, use a plug-in called Preview Exporter which will find and extract the low resolution previews created by Lightroom.
In the future, you want to make sure that every photo AND your Lightroom catalog file is properly backed up to a different disk than the disk where the original is located.

  • MYOB AccountEdge - Sharing data file with remote Windows PC

I use MYOB AccountEdge in a Mac environment at my office. Bookkeeper uses MYOB AccountEdge in a PC environment. We both would like to be able to have access to my MYOB data file. Simultaneous access to the file is not a requirement. We're not in the same office, so one of us would have to access the file remotely. I have Mac OS X Panther Server installed on my server. The MYOB folks told us that, in mixed environments, the data file would have to reside on a Windows server in order for both the Mac and PC to have access to the data file. They said that the Windows PC would not be able to access/use the file if it resided on a Mac server. Bookkeeper does not have a windows server. Before I go out and buy a PC to act as a server for the data file, wanted to know if the MYOB folks knew what they were talking about. I know it's their product, but over the years I've found some companies who make both Mac & PC software to be sometimes mistaken about the capabilities of the Mac platform.
By the way, I do have a static IP address and broadband internet access. I would think that Mac OS X server would allow a PC to access and use the data file without any problems. Any advice/help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can i edit files with Lightroom with Creative Cloud Connection when its published? So that i coud sa

    TIA

Assuming the creative cloud connection works in a way that you can have a folder on your system which gets auto-uploaded:
Create a publish service to hard disk, which will populate that folder (in the file format desired in the cloud). You can use smart collections in that service so that any develop changes are automatically detected for republishing. This is something you need to trigger yourself, though - an advantage IMO, because it does not force you to slow down while you are still working.
If this does not meet your expectation please rephrase your initial question, as it seems to have been truncated.

  • "Sharing" to Master file after overnite is at 10%

I have successfully shared many times to master file with current setup (macbook air 10.0.8). And I did so with this same movie that is 11 gigs to 480p...this time I'm trying to do same but to 780p...and after 10 hours it's only 10% done?
    Any thoughts? thanks in advance!!!

There may be some media or render file in your project that is causing problems. The fact that other projects export all right and this does not is a big hint that this is somehow specific to the project.
Here are a few things you may try:
    1) Set In and Out points and export just a small section of the project. Does that progress all right? You may try different sections or export, say, about half the project then the other half in hopes of locating the problematic clip.
    2) Delete render files - File->Delete Project Generated Files
    3) Copy everything in the project, create a new project and paste. This can be useful because sometimes it is something in the structure of the project that goes bad; simply duplicating the project would bring along the corruption, but pasting usually works.
