Sharing Movies in iTunes

Although I can share Movies and Music using the Import button the "display only items not in my list"  button only functions with the music list.  Is there a way of getting the button to function when importing movies?
Thanks

I did a little experiment to see if this would work. I've ripped most of my DVD's to mp4 files, and then opened them in Quicktime and set some poster frames, resaving them as quicktime movies on my external HD. It's a good idea to keep these all in the same folder. Then all you need to do is drop them all on iTunes. Before you add them, make sure you have "automatic importing" disabled if you have them on a seperate drive like me. This can be found in iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->General->uncheck "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding."
As long as you make a smart playlist that has "Quicktime" in the category for "Type," they all can be accessed seperately from your library like you would under the Movies preset category on your own computer. This works fine on our local network.
I am, however, having an issue with not all of them showing up under my shared music. This is strange because they all were last night, and they're all in the same format.
I'd say give this a try. If you want a simple free program for ripping DVD's you own to an HD, give "handbrake" a try (just google it). The only downside is you don't have the chapters created in like you do movies you download form iTMS. Hope this helps.

  • Sharing movies with iTunes

Sorry if this is a dumb question but it's driving me crazy! When I make a movie in Movie '08 and share it to iTunes, none of the purchased music and several of the jingles (from iMovie's own resource pane) refuse to play in iTunes. The movie sound plays properly with iMovie preview but disappears in the sharing process.
Apple support have no ideas - does anyone else think they can help? iTunes support say it's an iLife issue and iLife support say it's an iTunes problem!
    Thanks

Is the music missing only when the movie is viewed through sharing? If you just play the file on the computer it was created on, can you hear the music?
I don't think any purchased music file will be available on a non-authorized computer. And I've personally had issues creating a QuickTime movie where a non-ITS purchased song was not playing in my final movie file. I changed the music file format to MP3 and it worked. You could try that.

  • Sharing movies with itunes through quicktime

    Hi :-)
I apologise if this has already been asked and answered but I've searched through the boards and can't find anything.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple of days ago.  Up until the upgrade, if I wanted to watch a movie I had stored on my Macbook (in avi format) with my iPad and iPhone, all I had to do was open it in Quicktime, click on 'share' and select itunes.  The file would then be converted and appear automatically in my itunes library.
Since my upgrade tho, the only options I'm getting when I click 'share' are 'email, message, airdrop, facebook, youtube, vimeo and flickr'.  How do I share my files with itunes now??
Thanks.  I'd be grateful for any help :-)

Try the File Menu "Export To > iTunes..." option.

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • Can I move an iTunes library from Comp1 to Comp2 through Home Sharing?  What happens with the first sync?  What happens to 3rd party app data (specifically, game scores/levels)?

I need to move an iTunes library from Computer 1 to Computer 2.  Can I do this through Home Sharing, by dragging and dropping library items from one to the other?  The library consists of iTunes purchases, home shared items and music/movies from our personal collection.  Both computers have had all the accounts authorized, so I don't anticipate an issue there.  I'd like to do this so that my son's ipod is impacted as little as possible -- specifically, his game scores/levels and other 3rd party data remain intact after the 1st sync and the organization of his icons remain intact.
Is there a way to do this smoothly and easily, protecting his ipod data/organization?

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. If you replicate the library from Computer 1 to Computer 2 by copying it, then all will be well. I routinely sync my iPhone and iPad both at home and at work using a single library that I migrate between the two locations via an external drive which is kept up do date using SyncToy.
Backup the iPod touch on Computer 1.
Copy the entire iTunes folder from Computer 1 to Computer 2, replacing any existing iTunes folder on Computer 2.
Check that content is accessible in the migrated library. (Won't be a problem for a standard iTunes library where all the content is inside the iTunes Media folder which in turn is inside your iTunes folder).
Connect iPod touch to Computer 2.
    Sync.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong (it won't) then you can connect the device back to Computer 1 to restore it.
Note device backups are not stored within the iTunes library and stay on the machine on which they were created. It is theorectically possible to migrate them but there isn't really any point. Once you have synced the iPod with the copy of the library on Computer 2 then Computer 2 will make its own backup of the device.

  • Can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer

can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer (I already have home sharing with other computers set up, but I don't see it.)?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • If I move my iTunes media folder to the Shared folder....

    Hello
I'd like to share my music libary with my wife's user account on our MacBook Pro so she can get some of my music onto her iPhone. I've read the article on the Apple site as well as similar articles from other reputable Mac user websites and it seems simple enough.
I move the iTunes media folder into the shared folder and then redirect iTunes in the two separate accounts towards the new library locations whilst unticking the box 'Copy to the iTunes Media folder when adding to library' and then the same library is used by iTunes for both user accounts.
My question is: what are the implications for Apps when doing this? This method allows us to share music which is simple enough because she doesn't have any so the new library will just be my music.
But we both have our own collection of apps bought and downloaded through our individual accounts. Her apps are in the iTunes Media folder in her own account whilst mine are in mine. If we share an iTunes media folder as our shared libary, how does the storage and synchronisation of apps function?
    Thank you for any help..

Sorted - worked it out myself.
In case it's of any use to anyone else, I moved my iTunes Media folder into the Shared section of the drive and let iTunes know this which has had absolutely no effect on my library or my access to my media.
My wife's iTunes simply has access to my media and she can add it to her own library (which already contains her own apps) without moving the media from my shared folder because I deselected that 'copy to itunes when adding to library' box.
Now she has her own media folder and library but can access my stuff...

  • Can I watch a rented movie from Itunes (iMac) on my Apple TV 3 without airplay and home sharing?

I recently download a rented movie from itunes store in my iMac. My question is, if I can watch my rented movie in my apple tv without Airplay or Home sharing? The reason is because I don't want to turn on my iMac every time that I want to watch a movie.
    Thanks!

If you rented the movie from Apple TV, then you can't watch it on the iPad.  The screenshot below is from Here

  • I had downloaded a movie from itunes to my ipad prior to getting Apple TV. Connected Apple TV and set up home sharing. Can I now watch movie that I previously rented on Itunes on Apple TV?

I had rented and downloaded movie from Itunes previous to purchasing and installing Apple TV. I set up home sharing with all computers and Ipad.
Can I now watch movie on Apple TV which I had previously downloaded? I tried to access on Apple TV but videos show as empty.

You cannot access the movie from the Apple TV screen. You would need to use airplay on the iPad to stream the video to the Apple TV.

  • I just created a movie in iMovie 10.0.5 and shared it to iTunes but I cannot copy to my iPod touch

I just created a movie in iMovie 10.0.5 and shared it to iTunes but I cannot copy to my iPod touch.  It says the movie was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod. My iPod was bought in 2009 and has the latest iOS 4.2.1.  I also tried sharing in all the different resolutions but none of them worked.
    What should I do?

iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer
You have a 2G iPod and the can play/sync only SD videos.
If necessary use a converter app to convert to compatible format. I use the free HandBrake

I just downloaded a movie on iTunes on my iPad but it isn't showing up on my Apple TV? Help! I already have the home sharing on as well.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The movie isn't supposed to show up on the Apple TV, if you want to play content on your iPad via the Apple TV, you will need to use AirPlay.
Basic AirPlay: Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Mirroring: When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

this seems to be a itunes/bonjour problem, not ATV3 problem.

  • I purchased movies through iTunes and downloaded them to my PC as well as synced my entire library (including 'all films') to my iPad. However, I cannot seem to find / view the movies on my iPad unless 'Home Sharing' is on?

No. Homeshare let's you view your iTunes library or others on your network.
Movies should be in the video app on the home screen. If they are not there, then make sure when your iPad is plugged into iTunes on your computer...the video tab is checked to sync what you want..make sure you hit apply after. You should see the movies transferring to your iPad in the status bar on the top of iTunes.

  • Can I share a home movie in itunes without home sharing?

I Would like to share a home movie in itunes from my iPhone to another iPhone that is out of state

You can only sync an iOS device to one computer at a time.  It has always been that way.  There are alternatives; you could use DropBox or email to send the file, or you could put it on a USB stick and transfer it to your mother's computer and then sync it to her iPad from there.
