Sharing music between iPods with different iTunes accounts

My wife bought a 2nd gen (?) 4G nano, plugged it into our home computer and synced it to my daughter's iTunes account. However, she wants to create her own iTunes account ... she doesn't care for all of my daughter's music, and she wants to download/listen to songs on her own iPod that might not be appropriate for my pre-teen daughter. However, she would like to keep some of the songs that are in my daughters iTunes account. Is this possible?

  • 2 Ipod with different Itunes accounts...can't get music from other ipod

I tried finding a similar thread but no luck....
My boyfriend has an Ipod and an Itunes account w/his old computer, which he no longer has. I have an Ipod shuffle that I have an Itunes account on my own pc. Whenever I plug in his Ipod to my pc to read/upload music it says his ipod is already linked to another Itunes account. If I chose to sync his ipod he will lose all his music? Is this true? Also whenever I plug in his ipod it recognizes it but does not show any of his music? Is this normal? I just want to be able to access his music on my pc?? Any advice will help?

There is a chance everything will go. If nothing is seen from his iPod on your iTunes then I don't believe anything is on it anyway. Usually you can still see the files, but are unable to play them.

  • HT1296 how do you transfer music from one ipod to another with different itunes accounts?

I have a friend who has a first generation ipod that was synced with another itunes account.  He no longer has access to it and forgot login and password.  I bought him another ipod touch 4th generation.  I opened up a new itunes account for him.  He has 470 songs on the old ipod that we want to put on the new ipod touch.  How do we do it with two different itunes.  We wish to use the new account.  Thanks for any help

Copy the music for the old iPod to his computer by:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Then sync the new iPod to that computer.

  • Managing 2 ipods with on itunes account?

We have 2 ipods - how can we manage both with one itunes account? We do not want to have to store all those songs in 2 different accounts?

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple Windows user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
    Sharing a Library/Windows user account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:

  • Using multiple devices in iTunes, each with different iTunes accounts

My husband and I are trying to go from 2 computers to 1 in the house, but cannot figure out how we can run iTunes on one computer, with multiple iTunes accounts and NOT download each others apps, music etc automatically. My son also has an ipod which I want to have as a separate account.
We still want to be able to share some of the downloads amongst each other - but selectively, and not have them automatically downloaded as they would if there were all on the one library / account.
From what I can see on the online forums I can create a new library for each device to stop the automatic transfer of purchases, but then cannot find how we can select what we do and dont want to share amongst each other, or if this is even possible with multiple libraries.
Is there a way that I can do all of the following:
Have multiple devices on 1 computer in iTunes
Each device has its own iTunes account
Each device retains its own library
Each device can select what purchases we want to share amongst the devices, without it automatically transferring onto each device?
    Many thanks!

  • Homesharing with family members with different iTunes accounts

I recently got a new MacBook Air as a graduation gift.  Before, I shared a PC Laptop with my brother.  He has his own iTunes account but we both used the same iTunes program.  Some of the songs on the old computer were mine, some were his.  He's also made a few purchases for me on his account.  Anyways, now that I'm trying to get my library onto my new computer, I set up homesharing and tried to get the old music (some mine, some his, some burned by CD's, etc.)  All the music I had purchased on my account switched, but when I tried to import the other songs and movies that my brother bought, it said that my new computer wasn't authorized.  Is it not possible to have someone else's music from a different account on my computer?  I thought that was the purpose of homesharing.  Does homesharing only work if it's the same account on several different computers?  (PS I am all up to date with my iTunes and my software - I just got the laptop 3 days ago, so everything is brand new and current.  I'm pretty sure the iTunes on the other PC computer is up-to-date, but I'm not positive and don't know how to check)
Has this happened to anyone else?  Was there any solution that you found?  Thank you!

    I-tunes Home Sharing (HS) question:
Will they each authorized unit (i pad, computer,iPhone) individually update separately or collectively on a Home Share I-tunes account?
    or differently stated
How does this work when i pad #2  (a new (HS) unit who likes Country Western)
and i-phone 3 (a new (HS) unit who liked Jazz and can't stand country western) but both like Mile Sirius connect to (HS) i tune account.
So when they individually connect with i-tunes from the "Dad's original i-tune account
Will it be updated  as "Dad's original i-tune account
    or as i-pad 2
Will it have access but not updating content from Old Dads or from Jazzy i-phone 3
    Quite a conundrum.

  • Multiple ipods with 1 itunes account

I have a 30gb iPod that I have for a couple years and use it with itunes.
I just purchased a iPod shuffle and want to use the same itunes account to put the same music on my iPod shuffle.
    Can i do this?
When I connect the iPod shuffle, it says it needs to be upgraded but I dont want to do anything to mess up itunes.
    Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can sync as many iPods as you want. I sync between two and four, depending on what I'm using my various iPods for (yes, it's an addiction...). iTunes will recognize each device as unique.
It sounds as if iTunes is telling you that the software on the Shuffle needs to be updated. That shouldn't affect iTunes in any way. If iTunes is telling you that iTunes needs to be updated, it still shouldn't be a problem. However, before upgrading any programs it is always wise to have a full back up of your data files.
    Best of luck.

  • Using 2 iPods with one iTunes account.

I share a computer with someone who also has a iPod and we have one version of iTunes downloaded. Although we have seperate user names iTunes seems to autosync what she's put in the library to my iPod and vise-versa. We would love to share some of the files that we pay for, but we certainly don't want to share everything. Is the best option for us to just sync our files manuelly instead of auto-syncing?
    Thanks

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Sharing music between ipod, iphone, and samsung touch screen cp

i have an ipod and an iphone.  how do i share music between the two with a samsung touch screen cp
it shows up in the library but will not share with either iphone or ipod

    - For this:
Thank you very much!  I just need to be sure my texts from my work iPhone don't show up on the iPod. I can turn off the iMessage app
Go to Settings>Messages>Send and receive and make sure you emaill address and phone number do not appear. Delete them if necessary. You can then add her own email address so you can message her.
    - The iPod will only use a phone number for Messages if the Account used to set up the iPod includes an iPhone and the iPod has iOS 6. You can't add non-iPhone number to Messages on an iPod.

  • HT1386 how to accoiciate my iphone with different itunes account?

I have 2 itunes account. my iphone is accociated with one of them, it's the old one. I want to change it so my iphone will be accociated with the new one. and I don't want to erase all the data on my iphone. how do I do it?

Because apple id's are unable to be merged you will be unable to update any content from the old apple id while signed into the new one.   Also, syncing and transferring purchases to the computer will cause a loss of information as well. Curious as to why you created a new apple id?

  • Sharing music between ipods

My daughter asked me if she could put some of the songs from her itunes library - some purchased on itunes, some from cd - on her friend's ipod...we connected friend's ipod to our imac...it mounted and was visible, but we couldn't drag any songs onto it...our ipod is not synced to automatically transfer songs, we manage that manually...not sure how friend's ipod is set up...any way to do this? thanks for any help.

I don't think you will be able to put DRM'd songs from the iTunes Store on the friend's iPod, because the friend's computer (to which that iPod is synced) is not one of the (up to) five authorized computers for your iTunes account.
If the friend's iPod is formatted for Windows, it may not work. This Apple FAQ says using a Windows-formatted iPod on a Mac is not officially supported.
