Sharing music with iphoto, iDVD, etc

I am having no luck sharing a playlist with iPhoto or iDVD. When I go to "SOURCE" in iPhoto slideshow and music, there are no selections. I have follwed the suggestions in HELP but still no go. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I too am attempting to coble together a "whole house" music library.
Here is what I have had moderate success with.
I use an Airport Extreme Router and have a USB hard drive plugged directly into it. The Airport Extreme allows that drive to be used as a "Network" drive that can be setup to be accessed by any of your computers that use that router.
Next, I moved my iTunes music folder to that hard drive.
Finally, you go into iTunes preferences and tell it that you want to use the iTunes Music folder that is located on your "Networked" drive.
This works pretty good but it's not bullet proof. I currently have 2 Macs that access this library and I'm pretty sure my wife's PC could access it as well for her copy of iTunes but she hasn't taken the time to sit down and figure out the settings.
So far, the main failure point is that the iTunes software seems to randomly decide it is going to reset which music folder it is going to access and you have to go back into the preferences and tell it (again!) to use the folder on the network drive. This is especially annoying with my Macbook. It accesses the router wirelessly and EVERY time I close the Macbook it resets which folder it want to access.

  • Why can't I use the iLife music with my iDVD project?

I thought I had been able to use some of the standard music that comes with iLife in my iDVD project, but now I can't figure out how to do that. Did an update make this not possible, or am I just going about it wrong? (For example, I'd like to use the "Lazy Day" sound clip as a background sound for one of the menus.)

My error.:( The sample music folder was in iPhoto. If you look inside the iPhoto and iMovie applications in the Resource folder you'll find a Music folder (iPhoto) and a iMovie Sound Effects folder that contain the various sample audio tracks. You can COPY them to a folder on the desktop and import into iTunes, put them in an playlist and access them that way. I'm sure Garageband will have a number of loops or sample tracks that you can copy also.
If you're looking for some audio to use try http://www.freeplaymusic.com/. They have tons of free audio tracks, jazz, country, alternative, blues, business & finance, children's, hard rock, instrumental, etc. They come in 30 sec., 60 sec. and full length for each song.

  • Sharing music with Itunes and windows XP

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to this group, but couldn't find anywhere else to ask for help!! I have searched this database, but could not find an answer that worked for my problem!
I am PC based and have several computers all running windows 2000. They all have itunes running and are very happy to share the music. I just purchased a new HP machine running windows XP and cannot get Itunes on this machine to share its music, or see any of the other machines shared music. I have read various messages about setting port 5353 and have tried this but with no success, I completely disabled my firewall but still not success? Does anyone know why XP will not see the other computers shared music or share its music? I have tried sharing the directory (with the Itunes music)on the new machine but still no success! I can go into itunes on one of my other machines and "add folder" so that the other machine see's the directory on my new machine with all the music, but I would like to share the music via Itunes? Maybe I am being naive! but it works for 2000 why not XP?
Any help would be very welcome.
    Thanks Gary

    Thanks Rachyl,
The link was how to share files, I can do that, my problem is that the itunes programs on my XP machine will not speak to or listen to the itunes programs running on any other machine (mac or windows 2000). I would like to know how to get the XP machine to communicate with the other computers and then share its music.
    Many thanks Gary

  • Sharing Music with the rest of the family over iTunes

I have an MBP, with all of my family's music on it. My husband has a PC laptop. I have enabled sharing, so that he can see our music and use his computer with AirTunes to play music over our speakers. However, he is not able to make his own playlists on his computer, and then put those playlists on his iPhone. This is really annoying for him. Plus, he doesn't buy music on iTunes, because then he wouldn't really be able to share it with me.
I would like our music (and photos, too, for that matter) to sit on a server in our home network and everyone to have equal access to them - be able to make their own playlists, etc. Is this possible? Would getting a Mac Mini and putting the music on it work? Anyone have experience like this?
Reading these forums, this kind of question seems to be a common issue. Apple, are you developing some kind of family media center?

  • Using purchased music with imovie/idvd

Apologies if this has been answered...these threads get too long to look back and back. Haven't used imovie/ idvd much since 2003-4-- so the copy protection measures on the latest version look very restrictive. Do I have this right: I make a slide show or movie via imovie-- I use music from a song purchased via the itunes store, I burn the slide show/movie to a dvd/ I give the dvd to 6 relatives, i.e. not for commercial use... and could it be that the dvd will not play with music unless I authorize their computers? In other words what exactly does that message mean than pops up that says the file won't play the music on another computer, unless it's authorized. Will it play on a burnt dvd, played on a TV?

I burn the slide show/movie to a dvd/ I give the dvd to 6 relatives, i.e. not for commercial use...
It's not legal, even though you're not charging for the DVD (copyright laws apply even when there's no commercial gain involved, hence the many suits the RIAA has filed against people sharing via Limewire and other P2P networks). Music you purchase, whether from the iTunes Store or via CD, is for your personal use and cannot be given away. If you want to create a video or slide show that you're going to give away, either obtain royalty-free music - there are a number of web sites where you can obtain such tracks - or create your own using GarageBand or a similar music creation package.

  • Sharing music with different users on the same computer

Please help i can not configure my computer share music from the itunes library with others users whit different devices

iTunes Home Sharing now works between users on same computer - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3865597
You could set up two completely separate libraries and share music via Home Sharing.

  • Sharing music with other accounts - doesn't work?

    Hi all,
I followed the directions on the Apple website to share my music library with other accounts on my iMac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
I moved the library content (not my library files) from my private iTunes directory to a Public folder on my iMac.
I then gave the other account read/write permission on Public and everything below it (I checked - it's there).
While my iTunes still shows the complete library (playable), the other account's iTunes shows NOTHING.
Do I have to import the library also? I thought setting the location in the advanced settings in iTunes would be enough?
    Thank you!

This will not solve why you are having your problem, but, have you tried setting up the encrypted network on the Windows PC and then tried to join it from the imac? I am not sure, but you may also need to have sharing active to allow other compters onto your network. Also, as an afterthought, for further protection, we don't have our router broadcasting the network name. So in order to join, one must know both the name of the network and the encrypted password to get in. The last thing I can think of is that on my network setup (mac os X 10.3.9) there are more than one WEP encryption setting. You may need to use the one that is compatible with the Windows PC.
I am just shooting in the wind here, so take my words with a grain of salt.

  • Problem Sharing Music with my other Computer

Ok, I have two Mac's....a MB Pro, and a Mac Mini. The MM has ALL of my iTunes files stored on it, in it's entirety.
I just want to have some random music on my MB Pro. Is there a way I can drag a playlist from my Mac Mini to my MB Pro besides burning a CD/DVD of the files?
I see the Mac Mini songs on my iTunes Sharing Folder on my MB Pro.

If you don't mind copying the random music into another folder on the MM, thus being a bit redundant and taking up more space, that you want on your Mac Book Pro here is my solution.
Copy what you want into another folder on the MM.
When networked, mount the MM as a network drive.
Open the MBP iTunes and designate its Library as being in the folder on the MM.
    Should work this way.
If you really want randomization of the music in that folder you could play with Automator to replace those files at intervals. Not entirely sure how I would achieve that, but it should be possible.
    Best-

  • Sharing Music with other users.

I think what I am asking is possible but I just can't get it. All I wanna do is share my Itunes library with my girlfriends account on the mac. So when she opens her Itunes on her account she can view and add to the songs in my itunes library. I manage to get it so she can view what I had by putting my itunes music in the shared folder but when I add songs to the library it doesn't update her library and when she tries to add songs to the library it says she does not have the correct authority. Please help.

    Hello,
You can gift music, and you can share iTunes Libraries, but in this case, your girlfriend cannot import your tracks to her library and vice versa.
Sharing your iTunes library across computers
If your computer is connected to other computers over a local network, you can share items in your library and playlists with up to five of those computers (in the same subnet).
To share your library with other computers:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Sharing, and select “Share my library on my local network.”
Select the items you want to share.
To require users to enter a password before they can see your shared items, select “Require password” and enter a password.
For others to see your shared items, your computer must be on and iTunes must be open.
If you choose to share your entire library, its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries. To change the name others see, choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and type a new name in the Library Name field.
You can share movies; MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and AAC files; and radio station links; you can’t share programs purchased from Audible.com or QuickTime sound files.
Sharing is intended for personal use only.
Share being the constant word here... does that help any???? I know sometimes it takes time to really understand how iTunes works. The more time you spend learning, the sooner you will come to comprehend what you can do and what you can't. And you can always post here for help.

  • Best way to sync shared music with iPhone?

    Oops

    I use this method:
    - first listen to the music clip, while in the timeline, and tap on m (marker) at each beat; after some practicing you can be quite precise...
    - then (while snapping is ON) drag the video clip you want to synchronize to a video track and make sure its left (IN) point is aligned with a selected marker
    - then drag the right (OUT) edge of the video clip right or left till it snaps to a new selected marker,
    - etc.

  • Sharing Music with Computer and Airport Express at the same time?

I just purchased and set up airtunes with some powered speakers.
I cannot figure out how I can play the same music at the same time to shared computers and the Express Powered Speakers at the same time.
Can you help me with configuring instructions please?
iMac G5 with Airport Extreme and DSL w/ iTunes pointing to external hard drive music library.
PowerBook G4 in the kitchen wireless can share music when computer is selected.
Powered Speakers on the screen porch with Airport Express connected can only play music when Express is selected.
How do I fix this so that when we have a dinner party we have the same music in the office, the kitchen and the screen porch all playing together at the same time?
    Thanks.
I hope my question is clear as I really would love to sort this out before our party.

Although your problem is slightly different, it seems that you are having the exact same issues that I had just two days ago - solved for me by Felix. If you check the link below, it goes through what I had to do, which was basically to update the software on my airport express base station, which he explains well:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=476631&tstart=30
When I did it, it then gave me the option on iTunes (check the picture at http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/airtunes.html to see the magnified bit on iTunes) and then I could just choose multiple speakers concurrently.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sharing music with multiple users?

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Here is my problem. I have 5 kids that each have their own iPod/iPhone. They all use the same Windows 7 PC, each one with a different user account. I need a way to be able to add new songs to the main library, and then have them show up under all 5 accounts automatically.
My current setup is this. I have 2 hard drives in their computer. The first is the main OS drive, and the second is used for MP3 storage only. I intially setup  iTunes under a single user account, and then pointed it to the 2nd hard drive for the music. I then copied that completed iTunes folder to each of the other 4 user accounts C:\User\Music\iTunes folder. This worked and each of them were able to access all of the current songs and sync up without affecting one another.
Unfortunatley this left me with one additional problem. How can I add new songs to the main library and have them be auto detected by all 5 accounts without having to log into each one and manually add the new music? As they get new CD or MP3 purchases, it is a big pain to have to manually do this everytime to make sure they are each seeing all of the music. I know I could setup a single account and not have to jump through all of these hoops, but I want them to be able to check/uncheck and sync their songs the easy way and avoid unnecessary fights!
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
