Sharing my user.

At times, when i am out of the office, and my staff needs to convert a PDF.
I have given them my login and password so they can convert the document from their work station.
However, they try they are unable to login.
Is there a solution?
Is there a single user license issue at play here related to the IP address?

The license is only for one person, you are not allowed to share it.

  • Network sharing problem (user permission)

    Hi,
I'm having problem with the network sharing and user permision.
My company computer configuration listed as follows:-
    iMac 1 - Mac OS 10.6.8
    iMac 2 - Mac OS 10.5.8
    iMac 3 - Mac OS 10.5.5
    PowerMac G5      - Mac OS 10.4.9
4 PC - All windows XP
We have problem with the file sharing on iMac 1.
All the computers can share each other flawlessly. (Mac using SMB to access windows).
However, when iMac 1 copy a folder, or create a new folder in PC, some problem occurs.
    - the folder being create/copy was set to be full access (read/write) for everyone in the permissions setting.
    - the folder can be share with everyone on the iMac1
    - when it copy through the network to a PC, iMac 2, iMac 3, and PowerMac G5 cannot access the foler.
    - all the PC and iMac1 still can access it.
Any clue to this funny issue?

  • Sharing only users cannot connect to Lion Server

    Dear all,
I stumbled across a funny problem, that I tried to resolve all day. I just wanted to add a sharing only user for my girlfriends new MacBook that she could use to connect to a shared Time Machine Volume.
If I add a new standard user, this user can connect to my server via finder (connect as...) and see the shared drives. If the same user tries to connect to the Time Machine Backup Volume via the settings dialog, it receives an error message (OSStatus-error 5).
If I add a sharing only user, this user cannot connect via finder or Time Machine (same error). The clients console states the following error message:
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/NetAuthAgent[2471]      AFP error -5018 mapped to EIO
    Does anybody have an Idea?

That is my point.  Yes, Apple still lets you add users via users and groups in system preferences but that is not how you should be adding users.  I've seen nothing but trouble when that option is used to add users and I believe that the Lion server docs say to not use that.  If you are using lion server why not use it the way it was meant to be.  Just create a account in OD and only give her access to the Time Machine Service and none of the others.

  • How this retirement will affect Shared review users?

How this retirement will affect Shared review users?
For example, when Acrobat servers have problem and shared review users cannot download files from email invitation, Workspaces is where the users can log in and download the files.
If without Workspaces, is there another way for shared review users to download the files?

    Hi there,
Thanks for your question. Workspaces will no longer be available as a distribution option for PDF files in a Shared Review (although you can still initiate Shared Reviews using an internal server, such as a SharePoint workspace, a network folder, or a web server folder).
While Workspaces will no longer be available for posting those PDF files, Acrobat.com (http://files.acrobat.com) is an excellent alternative for uploading your files. You can make your uploaded files public, and share the file's unique URL with reviewers. For more information about uploading and sharing files with Acrobat.com, please see: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/help/files.html
Please let us know if you need any clarification or further assistance.

  • Shared Services Users Export............

    Hi All,
I want to export shared services users for a particular application.
Is there any way for this?
    Thanks

Yes, you can export / import the provisioning for a particular application.
By default the utility export all Users / Groups and provisioning for all applications.
To export provisioning for a particular application you need to modify the below parameters in CSS Import Export properties file.
    export.provisioning.all=false
    export.provisioning.apps=(<Project Name>:<Application Name>)(<Project Name 1>:<Application Name 1>)
    Hope this helps you...

  • HT2963 File sharing between users

    What is the "Wheel" user?
Does this user need to have RW access to a file in order for that file to be shared between users on the same MAC?
I set the file permissions to RW for each user but they remained read only for all users except the user who created the file.
Then I change the "Wheel" permission to read write and then the file became write enabled for the other users.
In the same direction ... what is the point of having a drop box if you can only write files to it but it is not possible to read any files from it.

Finder > help menu. Enter file sharing!

To share files using your Public folder:
Copy the files you want to share into your Public folder, inside your home folder.

  • How can my main user access files of sharing only user?

I use network MFD to scan files into shared folders through Samba. Works perfectly fine on Windows: scanner uses its own limited account to access shared folder and store files, but Windows admin user is the owner of this folder and of all of the PDFs in it.
I wanted to setup same system under Mac OS X 10.9.4. I created sharing only user "scanner" for my network MFD to access shared "Scan" folder on my MacBook Air through Samba. I shared this "Scan" folder for both my main MacBook user and "scanner" user with read/write permissions. Now if my network scanner logs on to the shared folder with username/password of my main user (and I consider this insecure and wrong) - everything works fine. But if network scanner uses its special "scanner" account, it creates file which I can't open later with my main MacBook user ("scanner" is the owner of this file, and "main" doesn't have permission even to read the file).
Looks like newly created files in shared folder don't inherit permissions of the folder.
Is there a way to force my main MacBook account to be owner of all files created by "scanner" account (at least in one folder used for scan results)?

Create a “scannergroup” group in Users & Groups. It’s the same process as for a user, but change the type to Group. Add all of your real users and your scanner user to the group.
Open Terminal and copy/paste this command into the terminal window. If you want to use different names for the Group or the folder, edit the line in a text editor, then copy/paste it into Terminal.
    sudo chmod -R +a "scannergroup allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/Scan
To change the group name in the command, change scannergroup to whatever you create in Users & Groups.
To change the folder, change the full path as shown by /Users/Shared/Scan
That command creates an Access Control List entry that allows each member of the scannergroup to read/write/delete/ items created by others in the group.

  • Sharing multiple user accounts to AppleTV on one Mac

I can't remember if I did this before with software 1.0/1.1, but I'm sure the possibility of having two concurrently active iTunes libraries on a single machine has been discussed as one way of separating out content.
To do some more testing on software 2.00 + libraries I have just created a new user account with a new iTunes library, and registered it as a shared AppleTV library on AppleTV 2 running 2.01 (I've not updated to 2.02 yet for a reason).
    So imagine this setup:
    Single iMac.
User Account A - called iMac - the main sync/share library.
User Account B - called Test - the sharing library.
Both Users iTunes apps open (switching between users obviously without logging out).
AppleTV listed under devices in both iTunes instances.
Both iMac and Test libraries solid white in 'Computers' setting on AppleTV.
Can play iMac content logged into User account A having switched from B.
I select My Shared Music - long wait - says it's not connected to shared Test library, and checking Computers 'Test' is now greyed out.
Switching to user B the AppleTv is still listed under Devices. I still cannot connect to My Shared Music and 'Test' Library remains greyed out. I can still while logged into B play the sync/share content of User A - I had expected I would be able to do the converse.
Both iTunes libraries show the other library under shared libraries in iTunes.
    This is baffling me.
    Rebooted etc etc etc.
iTunes can see the shared library of the other user account but AppleTV can't.

    Winston Churchill wrote:
Just to be clear, are you saying you can't connect to the test library regardless of which user account you have active.
    That's right.
The main sync/stream library content is available on AppleTV regardless of which account I'm logged into on the iMac. I have nothing at all synced so know that I'm seeing the "main" iMac library streaming.
Both libraries show up as shared libraries in the other's iTunes shares, and I can load the 'test' library under the other account iTunes instance and play music back which proves to me that the other account isn't dormant.
I've just updated iTunes as I hadn't done the last update but no difference.
Am now updating AppleTv to 2.02, I just hope that that doesn't disable simultaneous audio via optical and HDMI.

  • ITunes Sharing: 2 user accounts, 1 mac

I've turned on Fast Switching, I've enabled sharing in the Preferences...and I still can't get the sharing to work.
It seems to me that it's been broken since I upgraded to Tiger. Does anyone have any pointers.
I'm not trying to share 1 library amongst 2 users, I'm just trying to allow 2 user accounts on one machine to see (and listen to) each others' libraries.
    Thanks
    -Ray

    Ray:
While the article was written for iTunes 4.5, it does not imply that you can simply activate FUS to share music. It is very clear that unless your music files are in a public folder, the are not going to be accessible by other users on the computer.
    To quote from the article:
To share your music with other accounts on the computer:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes Music Folder. It is stored by default:
    ~/Music/iTunes or ~/Documents/iTunes/.
b These folders cannot be accessed by other accounts on the computer. In order for other users to be able to access your music, you must move it to a publicly accessible location.
The Public folder in your home directory (~/Public), or to another folder outside your home directory
b that other users have access to,
such as /Users/Shared. Tip: The tilde "~" refers to your home folder. For more information see Mac OS X: Using Your Home Directory.
    3. Drag the iTunes Music Folder to a publicly accessible location. Important: Do not move the iTunes folder, the iTunes 4 Music Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file.
    4. Open iTunes.
    5. From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
    6. Click Advanced.
    7. Click the Change button.
    8. Navigate in the Change Music Folder Location dialog to the location of your iTunes Music folder.
    9. Click Choose.
Repeat these steps for each account that is sharing music with other users.

  • How can photo albums be shared between users on the same computer?

I have downloaded photos into IPhoto, but my wife can't view them on the computer from her homepage.  (We have separate  passwords upon startup.)  Thanks.

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Sharing between Users on Windows

OK, I checked this page out from Apple, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203, to try and help me figure out why Itunes doesn't seemlessly work across users on Windows 7 (or Vista, or Mac, etc). I followed the directions and it either doesn't work or I'm just not getting it.
My goal is to use the Administrator user to manage itunes and that all other users will have access to itunes and the library created in the admin user account. Or simply, I want to be able to open itunes in any account and it matches whatever I've done in th admin account.
The fact this doesn't work as a matter of standard operations is confounding.

I've set up home sharing on 4 Macs successfully, however one Mac has 3 users. Since they are all not logged in at the same time, all of their itunes libraries do not show up, only the one for the user who is logged in at that time. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Also, how do I get new purchases to automatically download to all the shared libraries? I can't seem to locate that.

    Doesn't work - ask Apple.
Sorry, but at the moment I have no good feelings for them. User friendly multi-user environments don't seem to very popular at Apple.
