Sharing Photos between macs

I can access the iphoto albums on my other computer (emac - Iphoto 6.06) through sharing, but only the"1st level" albums are visible. Albums set up within folders are not visible or accessible. Those photos seem to be accessible only through the larger, more cumbersome, library category. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
if memory serves me well, iPhoto 6 and prior versions did not support nested folders. That may be the problem - iPhoto 6 cannot doesn't know how to display multiple levels properly.
If I am correct, I am afraid the only solution is upgrading to iPhoto '08 on the eMac.
Hopefully others can come up with a different idea.

  • Sharing photos between networked versions of Elements

Has anyone shared photos between different versions of Elements?  Specifically, I have Elements version 3 on a XP system.  Now I would like to add a new Windows 7_64bit system and run the latest version of Elements on it.  As I will be keeping both systems (networked), I would like both users to be able to use a shared folder of family photos.
    1)  Can multiple versions of Elements share a common/networked watched folder? (Not simultaneously)
    2)  If shared in this manner, are there any issues to address?
    3)  If not different versions, can the same versions share networked folders?
    Thank you

You can certainly have the same photos referenced by different PSE catalogs ( with the same or different versions of PSE, running on the same or different computers). Remember that a catalog just contains links to the photos.
There are a few gotchas to think about: If you change the tags of a photo in one catalog, the other catalog won't pick up the change unless you delete and reimport the photo.  If you change other fields, such as date/time, star rating, captions, notes, or GPS/map location, or if you edit the photo itself, then you can force the other catalog to pick up the change by selecting the photo(s) and doing Edit > Update Thumbnail. (This works for PSE 6 and later; don't know about PSE 3.)  And if you delete a photo from your disk in one catalog, it will become disconnected ("missing") in the other catalog, and you'll have to do File > Reconnect to find such missing photos.
If you want to share the catalog itself, see this FAQ:

Both OSx and Windows can read/write to the drive and both can use the same data files as long as you have a program that can open and save these files. • Sharing photos between multiple users on one Mac

I'm trying to figure out how to easily share photos imported in by one user to other users in my family on my mac. I'm assuming we don't have to import them multiple times. It seems cumbersome to this new mac user to share them. I find the issue with iTunes. Any help?

    HI Darien,
Here are all the links I have for the different kinds of sharing:
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • Sharing photos between users

Hello....I'm new to the MAC world and I'm having an issue with Iphoto. I have an account and my wife has an account on our mac. The pictures she has in her account cannot be viewed by myself, and vice versa. I have not been able to figure out how to share those photos between users. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again James

first be sure you are up to date - this works starting with iPhoto '09 version 8.0.2
Sharing via the Shared Folder -- Another major annoyance with versions of iPhoto prior to iPhoto '09 was that you couldn't just put your iPhoto Library in the /Users/Shared folder to share it among multiple accounts on the same Mac, since iPhoto always set the permissions on thumbnails to the account that imported the photos, preventing other accounts from editing those photos and having the edits reflected in the thumbnails.
That limitation has now been fixed in iPhoto '09, so you can share an iPhoto library merely by moving it to /Users/Shared and then double-clicking it to open in iPhoto from each account. You may be prompted to repair permissions on the first access - click the Repair button to do that. Note that this also works for storing an iPhoto library on an external hard disk that's shared among users or on a network volume for access across a fast network.
Only one person may access a shared iPhoto library at a time.

That's what I've been trying to do. Nothing is syncronized. Where it says "Copy photos from" – earlier I think you could select the iPhoto library, but there's no way to select the Photos library.

  • When sharing photos between two users, if one user uploads new photos, only he can view them. Any help on this issue?

My iPhoto library is in Shared Folders so both users can access and edit the pictures. However, if one users uploads new photos, for some reason these become only available to him and the other user cannot even view them.
All permissions have been set so that both users have them on the shared folders. For some reason, when creating a folder, the permissions are not kept....
    Please help.

The same thing has started happening to us since upgrading to iPhoto 11 and Lion. If I import photos from my camera, then my partner can see thumbnails of those photo, but cannot click them to see them sull size. Similarly if my partner imports photos.
We have used a shared iPhoto library stored in Users/Shared/Photos for several years and everything has been fine until now.
I am backing up now and will then check and repair the library permissions. I'll post back the results.

  • Trouble sharing photos between devices via iCloud photostream

I have trouble sharing photos in my iPod 4th generation with an iPad 2 user. I've sent an invitation to an iPad user to share my shared album with him but he didn't receive any email regarding on this invitation. Whereas, when the iPad user invite me to share his album, I've receive the email and joined his photostream. Unfortunately, the album didn't appear in my iPod. Can someone help me identify the problem? Thank you

    Hi LCelineee,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
These tips may help if your shared photo stream invitation is not being received:
I've sent email invitations to my shared stream, but not everyone received one.
    Try these troubleshooting steps:
Ask the person you're inviting to check any junk or spam email folders for the invitation.
Try resending the invitation. If a recipient still doesn't get the invitation, send it to a second or alternate email address for that person. The recipient's mailbox may be full, or either the person or the email service provider may have a filter that is preventing the email from being delivered. If you're using iOS 7, you can also send the invitation to the phone number that the recipient uses for iMessages.
If the person has received an invitation at least once in the past, that person may have opted to unsubscribe from future iCloud Photo Sharing emails. See the section on opting out of emails, below, for more details.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, contact Apple Support for further assistance.

  • Sharing photos between IPad and MacBook Air

    Hi
How can i import some photos recorded into my IPad and save them into my MacBook Air? I mean, how can i share photos between those equipment?
    Thanks
    Jorge

The simplest and most efficient way would be to use Photo Stream as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2605
Photos on your iPad will immediately appear on your MacBook Air in iPhoto -- as long as your MacBook Air is reasonably recent and OS X and iPhoto are current.

  • Sharing photo between same mac users

Hello how do I share photo's with my wife on the same Mac. Any help would be great.

    JVIDAL
What level of sharing do you want?
If you simply want her to see the pics in your library:
a: In your iPhoto go to Preferences -> Sharing and enable 'Share This Library'
b: Leave iPhoto running in your account then switch to her account and in iPhoto -> Preferences ->Sharing: enable: 'Look for Shared Libraries'
Your library will open in her iPhoto.
Note: for this to work, your account must be logged in and iPhoto must be running
If, however, you need for her to have complete access to the library - add photos, edit them etc., then
a: Move the iPhoto Library Folder from your Pictures Folder to the Users/Shared Folder, and using the Get Info window set the permissions to allow everyone read/write access. OR, put the iPhoto Library Folder onto an external HD that is set to ignore permissions
b: in your account, hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto and choose Locate from the resulting dialogue. Then navigate to the new location of the iPhoto Library Folder. Repeat the same for your wife's account.
Now both of you have exactly the same access to the pics.
However, be careful - iPhoto is NOT designed as a multi-user app, and having two users open or try to save increases the risk of database corruption exponentially. So backing up is the order of the day.
    Regards
    TD
