Sharing photos on Facebook and Flickr

Hello. I'm a little concerned that photos I publish to Facebook and Flickr will be removed from these respective sites if they are inadvertently deleted from within IPhoto. What would happen if I reinstall OSX and start from scratch without restoring anything from TimeMachine? Would the two sites replicate with the new install, and then remove photos because they're not in IPhoto? Please advise before I invest a lot of time in using this new feature. Thanks in advance.

But won't they be removed if you then sync a new Library with FaceBook?
I don't think so because the new library isn't the old library. In other words, unless you specifically are able to relink an album in iPhoto to a set in Flickr (and I assume the same is true for Facebook), iPhoto would have no way of knowing those photos are on Flickr (or Facebook). Even with the same names I doubt it will link up with the online versions. At least with the Flickr sets, iPhoto keeps a direct link to the set.
For example...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pakphotog/sets/72157617564040837/
would be a set link. And you would have to somehow reassociate that link in iPhoto.
In my own experience in Flickr (I don't use Facebook), I have had uploads of set out of iPhoto go wrong where for whatever reason the upload stalls and you have to cancel out. Any photos that did make it to Flickr are orphaned by iPhoto and a Flickr set isn't created in iPhoto. If you then retry the album to flickr, it will reupload the same photos again since it doesn't know they are already there.
I have found that to be a rather frustrating problem with iPhoto and Flickr. I would love for iPhoto to have a way to upload to Flickr and NOT manage where they are in flickr including the ability to leave them in Flickr but not iPhoto.
For this reason I have been using FlickrExport for iPhoto, a third party plug in...
http://connectedflow.com/flickrexport/
which allows you to do things like upload from iPhoto to existing Flickr sets or several different sets among other things. My only complain with that plug in is that it appears to disable iPhotos built in Flickr uploader which I still like to use as well (useful for uploading new full albums going into the same set). So the unfortunately work around seems to be to move the plug in out of the iPhoto folders and relauch to use built in flickr upload then put back and relaunch to use the plug in.

  • Can someone help me with a problem I have publishing photos to Facebook and Flickr

I am using LR4.4 on my HP laptop (Windows 7 Home premium) with Mozilla Firefox as my default browser. I was able to publish some photos from LR to my Facebook account early in October. I have some new photos to publish, but find I now can no longer publish to Facebook.  I get a message – “Facebook authentication check failed”. I have tried to reset up publishing to Facebook within LR, but when I click on the Authorize in Facebook, I get a Firefox Error Message:  “The address wasn't understood Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (lightroom) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. You might need to install other software to open this address.”  I have tried using IE as the default browser, but I get the following Internet Explorer Error Message:  “The webpage cannot be displayed. Most Likely Cause:  Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.”  From the Adobe website (helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/errors-occur-using-lightrooms-publish.html) I have unsuccessfully tried all 5 solutions to resolve this issue.
Other steps I have tried - I have removed the LR app from Facebook, then attempted to Authorize from LR. I can get through 3 steps in Facebook (request for Public Profile, accept Posting to Facebook, and accept managing FB pages), but the final step again fails.  In Lightroom, after the authentication step fails, I note that the “Failed to receive authentication token” is highlighted blue. When I click on this, a popup appears (see below). I had found a suggestion that this should be changed (I can’t recall what the alternative url was – but part of it was …”export.facebook”…) but I’m not sure where this change should be made. I attempted to paste the new link into this field, but this didn’t seem to work either.
I have also tried to set up publishing of photos to my Flickr account. I go to the LR setup, which directs me to my Flickr account, and click on the authorize button. But again I get the same error message!  I am just about at the end of my knowledge / ability to solve my Publishing problem. I would really appreciate you help and advice with this issue. Can you please help me?

  • Facebook and Flickr with Aperture on Macbook Pro

I have set up both a Facebook and Flickr account in Aperture.  They work great and like how easy they are to use.  I do have a problem though.
After using my Macbook, I close the screen and leave it.  When I come back and open the screen, sometimes Aperture gives me an error that says:
There was a problem connecting to Facebook.
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -1.)
After clearing the message it comes back in an endless loop.  Am I doing something wrong?  Should I exit Aperture before closing the screen evertime?  How can I clear this error without killing the application?
    Thanks.
    Mike T4

This is not much help, but I don't think it's an infinitely loop. I suspect the number of times you get the message is related to the number of flickr sets you have in Aperture. If you are patient, and click the OK button enough times, it will go away.
I really don't like force quitting - especially Aperture. I have always been able to "outlast" Aperture by clicking the OK button enough times.

  • Free photo services other than Facebook and Flickr with iPhoto integration?

Currently we use Facebook, though I can't assure anonymity when posting images from my facebook account on a particular bulletin board, due to real name being associated with the image being hosted in Facebook. Flickr, for reasons beyond my control is not viable as a choice because Yahoo now appears to own Flickr, and my Yahoo account I decided for reasons of anonymity to not give my real e-mail address and now I don't have the password for it. Is there an iPhoto uploader software that works with Google images, or some other service that is free for hosting images?

You might give a look at OVI.com. It was bought by Nokia and integrated into their phones but can still be used like facebook or one of the other photo sharing sites. The site will take photos as well as videos.
It's equivalent of MMe's galleries are called channels. You can make individual channels private or public. Private channels can be opened to specific individuals.

  • Quality of shared photos on Instagram and Facebook

Since some time, more or less 1 month, when i post my photos on Instagram or Facebook, they lose quality and this did not happen before. Am i doing something wrong?

Here is the recent support document on Photo Stream Sharing:
iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5902
Which photo and video formats and sizes does iCloud Photo Sharing support?
iCloud Photo Sharing supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. When shared, photos taken with standard point-and-shoot cameras, SLR cameras, or iOS devices will have up to 2048 pixels on the long edge. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.
iCloud Photo Sharing supports both MP4 and QuickTime video file types, and H.264 and MPEG-4 Video file formats. Videos can be up to 5 minutes in length and are delivered at up to 720p resolution.
    My observations:
Photos taken on my iPhone will sync to my Mac in the original resolution of 3264 × 2448 (8,0 MP).
Photos taken on my iPad 3 will also sync to my Mac in the original resolution of 2592 × 1936 (5,0 MP)

  • Problems publishing to Facebook and Flickr

I have been happily publishing collections to Flickr and Facebook since lightroom 3 came out and recently they have both stopped working. I think the problems happened after I changed the structure of  some of my keywords.
From memory, I had two keywords "baby" and "baby photos" and wanted to merge them. I selected all photos with keyword "baby photos" and dragged them to the "baby" keyword and then deleted "baby photos" from the keyword list.
Now I get the follwoing problems
    Facebook
I get "failed to retrieve item info"  error
It seems to always add the first photo on the list to Facebook, despite of the error. And it does it multiple times (multiple copies in Facebook) if I try to publish multiple times...
    Flickr
"An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt to index field '_dataChanges' (a nil value)"  error
Same situation as facebook, first photo is published but not the rest, photos remain in  "New Photos to Publish"
I have commented on two individual posts by people who were having similar problems but I thought it may help if I explained that I was having problems with both Flickr and Facebook and how, I think, the error came about.
Should I report this as a bug?
Any ideas for a work around?
    Thank you

I have had the same problem the last three days. I have
    not found an answer yet
I get "could not get album info from facebook" on any picture I try to upload from the publish button.
I can upload a picture on my hard drive from facebook.
When I try to use the publish button it looks like Lightroom is starting ok.
No idea where the problem lies.

  • IPhoto - Error Sharing Photo on Facebook

    Hi,
Recently I have been receieving "nsurlerrordomain error -1" error while sharing photos from iPhoto (v 9.4.2) to my Facebook account.
I tried removing and adding the FB account the issue persists.
    Kindly advice.

You might try this: Mac OS X: Resetting the SyncServices folder
Otherwise the workaround that works for all is to export the photos to a folder on the Desktop and upload to Facebook with your browser until a fix is found.

  • IPhoto resolution of shared photos on idevice and on PC

    Hi all,
Would 1st off like to wish everyone a very happy new year!
I've spent a lot of time searching for the answer to this issue and there seems to lots of conflicting information out there..
My apologies if this has been discussed here before.
I read that all photos shared through photostream are all scaled down to a "device optimized resolution". I have also read that the same shared photo stream on a PC has the full resolution photos. However the tests that I have done don't seem to support this. Does anyone have more information on what resolution is used for photos shared on a iPad, iPhone and also  a PC. According to my tests, a photo taken with a camera (not built in one) and imported into photos and photostream will have the resolution reduced quite significantly across all devices - including the shared photo stream on my PC. Photos taken using the iphone/iPad camera are also reduced in size, however appear on my PC photostream with a different ( also lower resolution).
All very confusing. Other than emailing a photo is there anyway of sharing it with a friend/family member yet while maintaining the full resolution?
Furthermore What I can't understand is why would Apple offer the ability to order photo prints directly from iPhoto up to the size of a large poster and yet reduce the resolution of the photo so much that it's barely possible to get a decent 6x4 inch print made?!?!
Any further information and insight to apples strange crippling of photos would be greatly appreciated because as it is currently implemented it makes absolutely no sense to me.
    Many thanks,
    P.

  • Facebook and Flickr color space?

My edit space is adobe RGB. When I sync with Facebook or Flickr, does Aperture convert the files to sRGB automatically? If not, is there anyway to do this without resorting to export versions and uploading the images outside of Aperture?

Go to Aperture/presets/web export. Presets are under Preferences. I believe Aperture default set is sRGB. Set your medium jpgs to sRGB. Aperture does the rest in converting/resizing for both Flickr and Facebook.

  • HT204655 Having so many problems sharing photos on Facebook

Using iPhoto with Facebook was a great way to share photos with my friends. The new Photos app with Yosemite is not so great. After figuring out that the Facebook upload limit was 50 photos (is there any way to have the number of photos selected to be displayed somewhere on the screen so that I wouldn't have to guess?), I learned that:
    1. I couldn't create a new Facebook album in Photos. Instead I had to upload to the Timeline, and then change the album name from "OS X Albums." Not critical, but it would be easier for me if I new which albums on Facebook I was publishing to.
    2. The photos on Facebook were uploaded out of order, necessitating some rearranging the photos after the upload. Would there be any way to upload them to Facebook in the order I intended? With 50 or more photos it would be a lot of work to get them in the right order. Having them uploaded in the correct order will save me a lot of time.
    3. I also added descriptions to most of the photos. In iPhoto the descriptions would also be uploaded to Facebook as captions for each photo. The new Photos app didn't include the descriptions with the photos during the upload. I prefer to have this feature so that I can add the commentary before publishing them on Facebook.   Would that still be possible? I would like it so that I wouldn't have to type up the captions twice.

  • How can I upload my iPhoto photos to facebook, and not have them automatically publish?

I know how to share my iPhoto photos to Facebook, but it used to be that when I logged on to Facebook, I had to approve the photos being published, and had the opportunity to edit the album and then publish it. How I do this again, and not have it automatically publish?

    Question to ask of Facebook.

  • Sharing photos on PC and MAC?

I am new to MAC (3 months.) I now know that having both managed and referenced libraries in iPhoto and/or renaming or touching anything in the iPhoto libray itself is BAD! Before I fix what I have done, I want to make sure my ging forward strategy will work.
My ISSUE: how can I access the same photos (from the ext drive) on both my PC and my MAC.
I have 25 years of photos/scans on an external hard drive, filed by year and "event" name etc. I want to use those photos in my new MAC, but also still need to use my PCs (both at work and at home).
*If I do what everyone suggests and "just let iPhoto import and manage the files" - can I still use those files on my PC?*
If yes, can I access a photo that I edit in iPhoto? (that is, if I crop, enhance,or otherwise edit a photo using iPhoto and it only stores it in the iPhoto libray...But I want to use that edited photo in a print project on my PC...how do I find it, use it?)
If not, do I need to maintain duplicate libraries?
    thanks

How do you access the HD from both Mac and PC?
I do this but only by network not direct hookup.
If you are plugging the HD into one or the other I may have a solution for you.
I have all my photos in folders organized the way I want them.
Then I set iPhoto to NOT import the files when I add them.
Preferences > Advanced > make sure the selection of "Importing: Copy items to the iPhoto Library" is not selected.
That way the photos (files) will stay where you put them and the data in iPhoto will still organize and do it's thing on them.
And if you modify a photo with say Photoshop the new file seems to automatically update in the preview of iPhoto.
    Works great for me.
Here is what I have been doing...
    1. When I got my MAC, I copied all of my pictures from my PC onto a portable HD (WD passport).
    2. Then I attached it to the MAC and used iPhoto.
    3. I added new photos only to the passport HD and edited them in iPhoto.
What I was _planning / hoping_ to do is move those photos back to the PC for use in other applcations. But apparently the editted photos aren't on the HD anyway, but on the MAC (in the iPhoto library.)
But I understand that using a referenced library is not a great idea.
(Also, initially I did copy some photos into iPhoto and apparently having a both managed AND a referenced set of files is DOUBLY bad!)
So what I need to do now is fix whatever I "broke" and get a plan to go forward!
