Sharing Photosmart 7960 from Windows 7 to XP

Hello,
I have a Photosmart 7960 connected to a Windows 7 x86 PC. I would like to share it with an XP computer, but I cannot locate an installable driver on for the Windows 7 computer that can be downloaded to the XP machine at installation time. Can anyone tell me how to share this printer from Windows 7 to XP?
Thanks,
Larry

campus56,
End of extended support for Windows 7 is January 14, 2020. Regarding your second question, all X230 models come with anti-glare screens. Hope this helps.

  • Sharing Photosmart 7760 from Win7 to Vista and XP

My current setup is the Photosmart 7760 is attached via USB to my desktop running Win7 Pro x64. I have two laptops 1 running Vista Home 32bit and the other XP Home Media 32bit. I have been able to add the shared printer to the Vista laptop but continue to get a missing driver error when trying to add the printer to the XP laptop. I have tried to add the additional drivers under Win7 but I'm unable to locate the x86 drivers. I have tried installing the driver for XP and finding it that way but no luck. I'm sure it's something I have overlooked as I see others are sucessfully able to share to XP, but I'm at wits end. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem, more or less.  New desktop with Windows 7 where my 7760 is installed, old laptop with Windows XP that I would like to have share access to the printer.  I finally figured out how to do it, though the solution is far from ideal.  It would be nice if HP simply made the drivers easily accessible...
I'm writing this out from memory, so some of the menu selections may be a bit off in wording.  The gist of them is right though, you shouldn't have any trouble figuring out what I mean.  Good luck!
Step 1:  Set up the printer in Win 7, share it.  (Duh)  Let's suppose my win 7 machine is named Windows7 for simplicity's sake.
Step 2: Download the Win XP printer software to your laptop.  Install it.
Step 3:  Unplug the printer from your desktop and plug it into your laptop.  The laptop will set up the printer as a USB wired printer.
Step 4: Plug the printer back into your desktop and confirm that it is working properly again.
Step 4:  Attempt to install the printer over the network.  When you get to the bit where you've browsed to the printer, you should have a network path at the top of the screen.  It should be something like '\\Windows7\HP Photosmart 7700 Series Printer.'  Control-C to copy that path, then cancel that installation.
Step 5:  Browse to the printer that you installed locally on your laptop, which should now be marked as offline.  Right click and select Printer Properties.
Step 6:  Go to the Ports tab.  Click the button to add a new port.
Step 7: Choose Local Port.  When the box comes up to enter the information, paste the path you copied earlier (control-V) into the window.  Hit OK until you are out of the printer properties.
Step 8: Right click on the printer and select Use Printer Online.
Step 9: Print a test job.  It ought to work.
Step 10:  Be glad you only have to do this once and that your two machines aren't both desktops...

  • Sharing Laserjet 1300 from Windows 7 64-bit to XP 32-bit

I used to have a working setup like this:
    WinXP-computer#1 --- WLAN ---- WinXP-computer#2 ---USB--- LJ1300
My setup has now changed to this:
    WinXP-computer#1 ---- WLAN ---- Win7(64bit)-computer ---USB--- LJ1300
I got the LJ1300 working on my Win7 computer.
I removed all the "old" LJ1300 printer devices from the WinXP-computer#1 and clicked "Add new" to reinstall it now that it's shared from a new computer.
I find the printer in the browers when choosing "Add printer" from the control panel on the WinXP-computer#1, but it's never able to find a suitable driver, but it HAS the driver. I didn't wipe that computer, just removed the printer.
I've downloaded the PCL5 driver and I've downloaded the universal driver. They both say "Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver." when trying to use those as drivers when installing the printer.
I've also tried to click "Additional Drivers" on my Win7 computer and checking the x86-option. It then asks me for a driver. I tried the same two drivers as above but it just says there's no driver matching the chosen architecture...

  • Sharing USB Printer from Window XP Machine

I just bought a new iMac and a Canon Pixma MX310 from the Apple store. Loaded the drivers on the iMac and my wife's Dell running XP.  When the printer is hooked directly to either computer it works fine. However, my wife wants it hooked up to her Dell. So I set up printer sharing and have found the printer and even gotten it to print blank pages.  The problem I have is the drivers for the MX310 don't show up as an option on the Mac when it asks me which drivers to use for the printer.  I have an Epson 740i hooked up the Dell also and have been able to share that without a problem, because the drivers show up in the window it prints without a problem.
So the question is, how do I get the drivers for the MX310 to show up in the drop down window with all the drivers that came pre-installed on the iMac?

Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers won't work across a network in this way.
It should work the other way, with the printer connected to the iMac and shared to the Dell PC.

  • Need help networking a photosmart 7960 to a windows 7 64 bit system from an XP Home 32 bit

I'm trying to network an HP photosmart 7960 to a wireless notebook with Win 7 64 bit where the printer is connected via usb to a windows home 32 bit computer. Have downloaded vista 64 bit drivers for the printer but can't install them on the windows 32 bit system. Have installed the drivers on the win 7 system but can't locate the inf file when trying to add a network printer. Any help would be appreciated.

I sympathize with your dilemma.  I have the same situation.  I have a Media Center 2002XP SP3 desktop with 3 printers connected.  Photosmart 7960, PSC 750xi all in one, and a Deskjet 870cse(a vintage 1996).  I just purchased a HP dv7-3188cl notbook WIN7 64bit.  My home network has worked flawlessly for years, with at least 4 wired and 3 wireless computers connected, networking 6 printers.
I have resolved my network problems with the printers.  They are connected to the host machine running MC2002 XP SP3.  I tried to install the printers through the network wizard by adding the  printers through WIN7.  Only the 14 year old printer installed successfully.  The photosmart 7960 and PSC 750xi did NOT.  Windows Update could not find the drivers for the install.  None are available on HP website either.
After some web research, I have solved my problems. At first, I followed the add printer protocol from the WIN7 laptop.  Error messages resulted and the USB printers would not install   error0x00000214.  The USB printers failed to install while connected to the host XP machine.  The 870cse is on LPT1 and it did network successfully when attached to the host  XPcomputer.
The drivers needed for the 7960 and 750xi (and probably many other HP printers) will install if you connect the printer to the WIN7 machine and follow the setup.  Windows update will load the needed drivers if they are available.  I sucessfully installed both printers on the WIN7 notebook, printed a test page on each, and printed other docs from the WIN7 notebook while they were connected to the WIN7 notebook.  These drivers are 64bit.  Both printers worked well when connected via USB to the WIN7 machine.
I then disconnected the printers from the WIN7 notebook and reconnected them to the original host XP desktop.
With the host desktop running, and the notebook running wirelessly, I went to (on WIN7)  START--Devices and Printers.
Click ADD A PRINTER at the top of the window, then click LOCAL PRINTER ( NOT network!!!)
Then in the following Printer port window choose  'CREATE A NEW PORT--SELECT LOCAL PORT amd click next.
In the Port name box, enter the name of the port, ie the path.  For example if the host machine with the printers attached is named WINXPMACHINE (as named on the network), enter \\WINXPMACHINE\    Then add immediately after that the Printer's name as it is on the XP machine( right click the printer in the Printer and Fax folder on the XP machine, select sharing and find the network share name for the printer).  It may look like \\WINXPMACHINE\Printerx where x is a number corresponding to the printer.  Then click next and OK
The next box asks to choose the printer from a list.  Select the printer you want to network( I have only done this with HP printers) and click next
The next dialogue box asks to use the driver currently installed(recommended)--click next -- do NOT replace the driver( it was installed when the printer was directly connected to your WIN7 machine)  Type in the name you want to use to identify the printer on your WIN7 machine.  The printer will install.  Print a test page to confirm installation.

  • Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
    Thanks.

We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here...

  • Can't Print/Connect from Windows 7 64 bit to Shared PSC 1315 on Windows 7 32bit Machine

    Can't Print/Connect from Windows 7 64 bit to Shared PSC 1315 on Windows 7 32bit Machine...
I tried to install driver on connecting PC, i tried to install printer as Local printer with local port - \\WIN7-32bit\HP PSC 1310 Series\ - and  i got access denied, and before i reinstall Windows on 64Bit machine its worked correctly... anyone know how to solve this problem ?
    *Edited*
When i connect it on 64 Bit machine printer requesting driver *.inf and not specific file...
i try to install 64bit driver on 32 bit machine in sharing options and they didn't support it...

More than likely, you are receiving the access denied error because there may not be a HomeGroup in place.
To handle networks securely with Windows 7, Microsoft took a different approach.  A HomeGroup essentially creates a trust among all the devices in that home group.  If a device is not in that homegroup, then that system will essentially be denied access.
Click on Install a printer on a home network to get basic steps to install a printer in a network environment.
Click on HomeGroup: recommended links to get more information about Home Groups, including setting one up.

  • Sharing HP Laserjet 1020 from Windows to Mac

From Windows PC AA I can see folders shared from Windows PC BB and also see and use the HP Laserjet 1020 shared from Windows PC BB. From the Mac I am able to see folders shared from Windows PC BB. But I CANNOT see (or use) the HP Laserjet 1020? I tried adding a printer when printing on the Mac (Tiger)and could get to the Windows Network and find Windows PC BB - but the printer does not get listed. Using the same steps I am able to see and use a printer on Windows PC AA. What gives? How can I delete all references, keychains etc. to Windows PC BB and start again (assuming that may be the issue)? Error messages or log entries as to why this is failing would be nice.

    Hi Ron
Take a look at these two iFelix articles below, maybe you have just overlooked something simple! The first one walks you thru the steps with the printer connect to the PC sharing with the iMac. The second is turned around with the printer connected to the iMac sharing with the PC.

  • Can't print to a shared printer on 10.6.8 iMac from Windows 7 iMac

I am creating another discussion as I made some changes and hoping PAHU-san will be able to solve this problem.  I am using a Mac OSX 10.6.8 iMac and Windows7 iMac.  I installed the driver Canon LBP6750 UFRII on each machine and both can print.  However, printing from Windows 7 iMac to a shared printer on the Mac OSX 10.6.8 does not print anything and has no errors.

PAHU, Thank you for looking into this.  I have been working on this for a long time, and hoping that purchasing these two Canon printers are not a mistake.  My iMac 10.6.8 is not directly connected to a printer by USB, but through protocol IPP (I have also tested with HP Jetdirect).  I am doing this because I would like the iMac 10.6.8 to be a print server and have client machines (iMac 10.6.8 clients and iMac Windows 7) print through the print server.  I have tried the following on the iMac 10.6.8 and have the following errors

  • Photosmart 2710 prints garbage from Windows 8.1 but prints OK from Windows 7

Photosmart 2710 connected wirelessly to Verizon FIOS router, prints fine when sent files from Windows 7 clients (also connected wirelessly). When sent print jobs from a Windows 8.1 wireless client, printer produces page after page of single lines of mostly graphics characters, with an occasional page of several lines of what appears to be XML.

  • Problem connecting to shared folders on Mac from Windows PCs

I am having problems using windows file sharing SMB to share folders on my Mac with windows computers on the same network. I have added a folder in 'Sharing' in System Preferences, and added a user account with SMB set to 'on', but none of the windows computers in the network seem to be able to access the address that is stated.
I can access shared folders on the windows computers from my my Mac with no problems.
    Can anyone offer any advice.

I got it to work. Instead of using share\username I instead used share\short name and it connected. However, it is not very obvious from the account preferences panel how to see or modify the short name. I just read that you have to right-click the account name in the account preferences panel in order to see this. I'll give it a try soon.

  • Problem Connecting to Shared Printer on Leopard from Windows XP

    Hey guys,
Just installed Leopard yesterday, and I have a Canon PIXMA MP160 printer connected via USB.
I have set the printer to be Shared, and enabled Printer Sharing in the Sharing preferences.
However, when I try and connect to the printer from a Windows XP laptop, it says: Access Denied, Unable to Connect.
I imagine that this is because I would have provide a username / password combo in order to access the network resources on my Leopard machine. I just can't figure out how to send the credentials, or disable the login necessity if needs be.
If this isn't the problem, or if it cannot be fixed then the alternative is to connect the printer to my router, which shares it via SMB. Now that's fine when I want to connect to it from Windows, but I can't figure out a way to set it up on Leopard.
The MP160 driver that comes with Leopard isn't marked as "Modern" which, according to the documentation means that it cannot be used to install IP or Windows Shared printers.
So my question is, to sum up, is there a way to fix the access problem when trying to access a shared printer on Leopard from Windows, and is there any way I can install and use the printer from Leopard while its shared from my Router via SMB?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit:
I just thought it would be helpful to say that I'm able to connect and browse through SMB shares from Windows Systems, and I'm able to connect and browse through shared volumes on Leopard from Windows. It's just the printing that's not playing fair.

I had Bonjour for Windows working on two XP machines before I upgraded to Leopard. After that when the Bonjour printer would not work I deleted it from the XP machines and re-ran the Bonjour Setup App. It can find the printer every time, but it will not finish and will give me an error instead.
I've also verified that I have Printer Sharing turned on and the printer is specifically set to be shared. I'm out of ideas.
Has anyone heard reports of Bonjour 1.0.4 not working with Leopard or just being buggy under similar circumstances? If that's not the problem, then I must be missing something. Suggestions welcome.

    Hi,
I have done this but it does not work.
My network is configured as a NAT in virutalbox.
Also from WIndows server 2008 guest I do:
    net use z:\\vboxsvr\mySharedFolder
Do I have to install additional software in host or do I have to configure something in Windows server 2008 guest?
