Sharing printer with bluetooth?

Hi,
I have an iMac 2.8Ghz Intel machine with a network printer (HP Business Inkjet 1100 connected via USB to a HP JetDirect Ethernet bridge thing).
I need to know if I can share the printer on my iMac with computers using Bluetooth. The reason for this is that when my work laptop (Windows) is on the work VPN, I cannot access my home network which connects to my printer. This means that every time I want to print something, I have to disconnect the VPN first which is a real pain. The VPN client doesn't allow for local network access (it's the Cisco one) and it locks down all other network ports on the laptop except the bluetooth radio. I have tested this by sending files to the iMac whilst the laptop is on the VPN and it works.
I have shared the printer on the iMac and selected bluetooth in the sharing options, but have no idea how to proceed especially on the PC.
Thanks in advance if you can help,
R.

Ok a simple quick but not so very recomended way to print in a hurry.
Share the printer on a machine that has it installed.
Log on to the machine that has the printer shared and right click on the printer and select the connect option.
Now go to printers and it will be there.
Note that you can print only until one machine is re-started.
To print on another occation just logon to the computer that has the printer shared and exit. ( to establish a session)

Does the printer actually support BlueTooth? If the printer is wireless, then most likely it uses Wi-Fi. Did you read the user guide that came with it? Or contact Canon tech support at their website.

  • Has ANYONE successfully connected a printer with Bluetooth?

I recently purchased a D-Link 120 and was unsuccessful connecting it to my printer with D-Link's 320. I was told by D-Link the -320 will not work with a multifunction printer.
I am set to purchase a new printer with a printer adapter from the same manufacturer....ie Canon MP500 and Canon bluetooth BU-20.
Perusing this discussion forum reveals many unanswered questions relating to connecting a printer with bluetooth. Before I purchase another printer, can anyone offer some assurances that this is, in fact, possible with OSX? TIA.

i did for about 6 weeks. i have the ambicom bluetooth printer adapter from comp usa. its on an epson rx500 photo printer. it's made for pcs, BUT it worked on the mac since the mac already had bluetooth capabilities...when i got my harddrive upgraded and osx had to be reinstalled, it no longer worked. i updated osx to the latest version, just like before the harddrive upgrade. my computer still scans for and finds the printer, but says that a necessary driver cannot be found. there was no additional driver ever installed by me, since the adapter only came with pc software in the first place. i just plugged it in and it worked. now no one can figure out what happened.

  • Printing on shared printer with Time Capsule

I've got a question on how to print on a shared USB printer with the Time Capsule. I think the answer is that I'm doing it wrong and expecting the impossible.
The typical set up, I think, is Time Capsule plugged into computer, printer plugged into Time Capsule, and then all parties in the wireless network can print. Right?
I've got my Time Capsule in the basement (that's where the cable modem is) and it shoots off a nice strong signal to the 2nd floor and does our backups nicely. The printer is plugged into my husband's iMac. My iMac can see the printer and acts like it has access to it. But nothing happens when I try to print.
Is this simply because the printer must be plugged into the Capsule and there is no other way about it?
    Thanks.

Please excuse me for jumping in on the party but I'm kind of in a fix. I just installed a time capsule. I can print from my PC (which is hard wired via Ethernet to the TC) to the USB printer connected directly to TC (HP F380). However when I print from my ACER PC through wireless it prints only 75% of the page then the printer freezes. If it's a 2 page document, it'll print 1 page then only 75% of the 2nd page. I tried reinstalling a new HP driver and Bonjour but without joy. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated. After solving this problem my next step would be to actually invest in an IMAC! Being an ex IBM'er I finally feel the need for change!

  • Sharing printer with PC using bonjour but can't print in color

I successfully shared my HP Photosmart C3100 printer with windows XP, got the test page printed out...but no color. I tried changing different drivers as other threads recommended (Apple Color LW12/660PS, Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600, Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS, Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS, and even the HP C3100 driver. Still can't get the color print out. I print the test page in color directly from Mac with no problem though. Have anybody experience this problem before? Please help....thank you.

Hi AppleForum, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not too familiar with Windows, but is there not something in the Printer Dialog that selects B&W , Grayscale, or Color?

  • Sharing printer via Bluetooth

    Hi,
Is't possible to share my network printers (or printers connected direct to my mac) to my mobile phone using bluetooth and Mac?
Why? I want to print my text messages directly from the phone and it can only print to bluetooth printers.

She should be able to print once she chooses your printer. (Of course, your computer needs to be turned on, since it's the one connected to the printer.)

  • Sharing printer with PC

    OK, I'm stuck.
I have one Mac and three PCs(two laptops and one desktop), and I am trying to use the Mac to share a printer. I am doing this because the Mac does not restarted.
I have a workgroup setup and I can somewhat share files. I have no success sharing the printer. Any help would be great! I would like to just start from scratch, so PLEASE HELP!!!!

Most common issue - Mac print queues expect postscript input - even from PCs using the shared printer. So, use a postscript driver on the PC (Apple Color LaserWriter x/600 is good), so you will be sending postscript to the Mac.

  • I cannot connect to printer with bluetooth with i phone office jet 150

i cannot connect using bluetooth from ipad or iphone

    Hi,
Apple's iOS does not support printing over bluetooth, it only allow printing through a wireless network connection. (802.11), as well the Officejet Mobile 150 is not an AirPrint printer:
NOTE:Apple iPads and iPhones do not currently support Bluetooth printing. To print from your Apple mobile device, you can use HP's wireless printing accessory (sold separately). Go to Installing the HP 1200w NFC/Wireless Mobile Print Accessory to learn more. For additional information, go to HP Printer Does Not Support HP's Mobile Printing Solutions .

You may check the HP 1200w NFC/Wireless Mobile Print Accessory which adds wireless and AirPrint capabilities to the Officejet Mobile 150:

  • Using a wired shared printer over bluetooth

With MSI 6967, the user manual says that you can only print directly to bluetooth-enabled printers.  This must be untrue?  Surely it would be relatively easy to construct simple SW that could send print jobs over bluetooth 'Network Access' to the other pc's local shared (and wired) printer?
I have seen utilities that do this on Mac, and I have seen something for pc altho it prints a watermark over everything until you buy it (I think it was £20, which seems a lot).
I'm only after something simple and freeware/open source.  Any ideas?
If there is nothing I may build something myself, if there is enough interest.

I seem to have managed this with my desktop PC running XP Home with an Epson parallel printer and a laptop also running XP Home. I can't claim to understand exactly how I did it but would be more than willing to share any network setting information with you.
Basically I set the printer to be 'shared' under printer properties and both PCs to belong to the same workgroup (MSHOME is the default name).
After experimenting with all sorts of Bluetooth settings to no avail I eventually decided to explore My Network Places, View workgroup computers. Much to my amazement I could see the other PC with the attached printer and could make it the default printer for the laptop!! Needless to say I had to connect the laptop to desktop for network aceess (right-clicking the icon in systray)
The only drawbacks are that 1) it doesn't start printing straight away - maybe 20 second delay and 2) the print monitor doesn't update (it won't tell me how much ink is left etc)
I was pretty sure it should be possible but took me many attempts before I succeeded.
You need to keep an eye on your firewall settings as I found this was blocking some of the attempts to print over the network.
Hope this helps or at least gives some encouragement
    Regards
    Keith

  • Can't see shared printer with IOS 6 on ipad 3rd generation

I just upgraded my 3rd generation ipad to iOS 6.0 and now it won’t see the shared printers at my office. The printers are shared on a Mac mini server running OS X Server Lion 10.7.4. I can still see the shared printers and can print to them from a 3rd generation ipad with iOS 5.1.1.
Does anyone know what apple changed with iOS 6.0 that makes it where the shared printers aren’t showing up and what I might need to do to get them back working on my ipad with iOS 6.0?
    Thanks -

iOS printing to a non-AirPrint printer is not supported. There's more information here: AirPrint 101
If you had iOS printing working through yout OS X Server then you must have had another piece of software running in the server emulating AirPrint. That software isn't compatible with iOS 6.

  • I have a hp mobile printer with Bluetooth and my 4s iPhone does not detect it what can I do to set this up

My iPhone 4s does not detect Bluetooth

bluetooth is just a interface like usb drivers are still required
and in the case of ios devices an app made by the printer maker
not sure if hp support their bluetooth printers on ios devices but if they do it's with an app you get in the app store
    bluetooth is not airprint enabled

  • Sharing printer with virtual machine

Host is Arch with KDE 4.4, guest is Windows 7. I can't figure out for the life of me how to set up my printer so that it's shared with with the VM (every "guide" I've found so far hasn't worked). I can directly attach it to the VM, but then the host no longer has access to it.
The printer is an HP Deskjet D2445 (so hplip is involved).
    Help is appreciated greatly.

  • Using USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter for sharing printer with 3 computers

    Hi all,
Opposed to using a print server, can I use a USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter to connect my Epson printer over my ethernet DSL router?
    Thanks
    Web dude

Yea, I thought about an adapter for the USB 2.0 port, but for a few bucks more, get the USB 3.0 adapter and be able to connect to Ethernet at Gigabit speeds!
Since Lenovo has not commented on the absence of an Ethernet port, I'm guessing that the slim height of the Yoga prevents it, unless you go to some funky slide-out module and connect at a 90 degree angle (which would be a worse design).  I had an old Thinkpad (or Dell?) with that design, and they are intermittent and subject to being broken off.
Bundling in the Ethernet Adapter would have been a nice touch.  Perhaps they were trying not to increase the Yoga's "above market" price further.

  • New to Mac....sharing printer with wife's PC..help please

    Hi
Duplicate of first ever message posted elsewhere.
I have "Crossed to the Light Side" from PC to iMac.
All OK so far but my wife can't share the printer (Canon MP610 connected via USB) using her windows laptop.
I have changed my system setting to allow sharing.
Her computer see the iMac's IP address but says the driver is not compatible.
Can anyone suggest a solution please (other than divorce as I like her)
    Thanks. Wrinkly Ninja
