Sharing printer with PC

OK, I'm stuck.
I have one Mac and three PCs(two laptops and one desktop), and I am trying to use the Mac to share a printer. I am doing this because the Mac does not restarted.
I have a workgroup setup and I can somewhat share files. I have no success sharing the printer. Any help would be great! I would like to just start from scratch, so PLEASE HELP!!!!

Most common issue - Mac print queues expect postscript input - even from PCs using the shared printer. So, use a postscript driver on the PC (Apple Color LaserWriter x/600 is good), so you will be sending postscript to the Mac.

  • Printing on shared printer with Time Capsule

I've got a question on how to print on a shared USB printer with the Time Capsule. I think the answer is that I'm doing it wrong and expecting the impossible.
The typical set up, I think, is Time Capsule plugged into computer, printer plugged into Time Capsule, and then all parties in the wireless network can print. Right?
I've got my Time Capsule in the basement (that's where the cable modem is) and it shoots off a nice strong signal to the 2nd floor and does our backups nicely. The printer is plugged into my husband's iMac. My iMac can see the printer and acts like it has access to it. But nothing happens when I try to print.
Is this simply because the printer must be plugged into the Capsule and there is no other way about it?
    Thanks.

Please excuse me for jumping in on the party but I'm kind of in a fix. I just installed a time capsule. I can print from my PC (which is hard wired via Ethernet to the TC) to the USB printer connected directly to TC (HP F380). However when I print from my ACER PC through wireless it prints only 75% of the page then the printer freezes. If it's a 2 page document, it'll print 1 page then only 75% of the 2nd page. I tried reinstalling a new HP driver and Bonjour but without joy. Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated. After solving this problem my next step would be to actually invest in an IMAC! Being an ex IBM'er I finally feel the need for change!

  • Sharing printer with PC using bonjour but can't print in color

I successfully shared my HP Photosmart C3100 printer with windows XP, got the test page printed out...but no color. I tried changing different drivers as other threads recommended (Apple Color LW12/660PS, Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600, Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS, Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS, and even the HP C3100 driver. Still can't get the color print out. I print the test page in color directly from Mac with no problem though. Have anybody experience this problem before? Please help....thank you.

  • Can't see shared printer with IOS 6 on ipad 3rd generation

I just upgraded my 3rd generation ipad to iOS 6.0 and now it won’t see the shared printers at my office. The printers are shared on a Mac mini server running OS X Server Lion 10.7.4. I can still see the shared printers and can print to them from a 3rd generation ipad with iOS 5.1.1.
Does anyone know what apple changed with iOS 6.0 that makes it where the shared printers aren’t showing up and what I might need to do to get them back working on my ipad with iOS 6.0?
    Thanks -

iOS printing to a non-AirPrint printer is not supported. There's more information here: AirPrint 101
If you had iOS printing working through yout OS X Server then you must have had another piece of software running in the server emulating AirPrint. That software isn't compatible with iOS 6.

  • Sharing printer with bluetooth?

    Hi,
I have an iMac 2.8Ghz Intel machine with a network printer (HP Business Inkjet 1100 connected via USB to a HP JetDirect Ethernet bridge thing).
I need to know if I can share the printer on my iMac with computers using Bluetooth. The reason for this is that when my work laptop (Windows) is on the work VPN, I cannot access my home network which connects to my printer. This means that every time I want to print something, I have to disconnect the VPN first which is a real pain. The VPN client doesn't allow for local network access (it's the Cisco one) and it locks down all other network ports on the laptop except the bluetooth radio. I have tested this by sending files to the iMac whilst the laptop is on the VPN and it works.
I have shared the printer on the iMac and selected bluetooth in the sharing options, but have no idea how to proceed especially on the PC.
Thanks in advance if you can help,
    R.

Ok a simple quick but not so very recomended way to print in a hurry.
Share the printer on a machine that has it installed.
Log on to the machine that has the printer shared and right click on the printer and select the connect option.
Now go to printers and it will be there.
Note that you can print only until one machine is re-started.
To print on another occation just logon to the computer that has the printer shared and exit. ( to establish a session)

  • Sharing printer with virtual machine

Host is Arch with KDE 4.4, guest is Windows 7. I can't figure out for the life of me how to set up my printer so that it's shared with with the VM (every "guide" I've found so far hasn't worked). I can directly attach it to the VM, but then the host no longer has access to it.
The printer is an HP Deskjet D2445 (so hplip is involved).
    Help is appreciated greatly.

  • Using USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter for sharing printer with 3 computers

    Hi all,
Opposed to using a print server, can I use a USB 2.0 Network Ethernet Adapter to connect my Epson printer over my ethernet DSL router?
    Thanks
    Web dude

Yea, I thought about an adapter for the USB 2.0 port, but for a few bucks more, get the USB 3.0 adapter and be able to connect to Ethernet at Gigabit speeds!
Since Lenovo has not commented on the absence of an Ethernet port, I'm guessing that the slim height of the Yoga prevents it, unless you go to some funky slide-out module and connect at a 90 degree angle (which would be a worse design).  I had an old Thinkpad (or Dell?) with that design, and they are intermittent and subject to being broken off.
Bundling in the Ethernet Adapter would have been a nice touch.  Perhaps they were trying not to increase the Yoga's "above market" price further.

  • New to Mac....sharing printer with wife's PC..help please

Duplicate of first ever message posted elsewhere.
I have "Crossed to the Light Side" from PC to iMac.
All OK so far but my wife can't share the printer (Canon MP610 connected via USB) using her windows laptop.
I have changed my system setting to allow sharing.
Her computer see the iMac's IP address but says the driver is not compatible.
Can anyone suggest a solution please (other than divorce as I like her)

  • Sharing printer with wired and wireless computers

I am sure there's a topic about this somewhere, but I can't seem to find a clear answer. I have a PowerMac G4 that does not have wireless capabilites. I have a PowerBook G4 that does, and an Airport Express that makes everything possible. Last night I went to hook my laser printer up to the Airport Express. Everything went smoothly, but now I cannot print from my PowerMac. Is there a way that I can set this all up so both computers can use the printer without having to buy an Airport card for the PowerMac?
Right now the printer is connected to the Airport Express which is connected to my router. The PowerMac is also connected to the router.
Sorry that I am so clueless about this. Networking baffles me.

Go to Airport Admin and uncheck "Distribute IP Addresses." With both a router and an Airport Express, you have created two separate networks - turning off part of that brings it back to one. (You may need to restart the Macs)

  • Sharing Printer with Desktop & Laptop

My desktop is Windows XP, my laptop is Windows 7.  I am using a router for the laptop.  Is this why I am unable to sirelessly use my printer that is connected to my desktop?  Not able to share my printer.

    Have you setup things properly?
For Windows XP , see this : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/maintain/printers.mspx
As far as your inability to see your networked printer on Windows 7 , this thread online seems to have fixed that users issue:

  • Error message in shared printer queue.

I am now receiving an error message in my Macbook printer queues whenever I try to print from this Macbook to a shared Epson C120 printer  attached by USB to my PowerMac G5.
When I highlight the queue line I wish to print, an  error message reads : can't open `/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/50cea92d5d0a0'.
This has just recently happened.  I have checked and rechecked my printer/fax options and my sharing options in both computer's systems and everything is as it should be.  I can print just fine if I am using my PowerMac G5.
I Googled the error message and found a reader's fix from an Apple Support forum which I hoped would work.  This was was to delete the printer in both computer's System Prefs, restart both computers and then put back the printer and sharing in both computer's System Prefs.  This did not work.
I have opened  http://localhost:631 and read the CUPS pages but this is a bit too technical for me and I did not know waat to look for to allow the printer to be shared..
I have made no changes to either Mac so I don't know why this just started.  I used to have no trouble printing from my Macbook.
What do I need to do?
    Walter
PowerMac G5  running Leopard 10.5.8 with an Epson C120 printer attached to it by USB cable.
Mackbook running Snow Leopard 10. 6.8.

    Mike,
Thanks for referring me to  //support.apple.comkb/HT3771.
I carefully read the support.apple.comkb/HT3771 article and found a critical error in my Macbook Sharing Prefs page.
I realized that in Macbook's System Prefs under Shared, the two square boxes (printer and users) are empty and the + and -  symbols below the boxes are grayed out so I cannot enter the name of my computer in the printer box nor can I enter a user's name in the users box.
I now remember that when I was able to successfully print from the Macbook these two boxes had info in them. The printer box had the name of my Epson printer and the user box said Everyone  -  can print.
I also think that the required info for these two boxes was automatically inserted.
So I now I will somehow have to get info in these two boxes in order for me to use shared printing with my Macbook
The issue is How to do this.
The Macbook's System Prefs for Print&Fax appears to be OK.  I can add or delete my Epson printer. Clicking the + button under the printer box always shows my printer in this pref.
I also see that in the Macbook's print queue the jobs all start with Hold for Authorization. Does this mean anything to you?
    I appreciate you help,
    Walter

    Hi Kmanxx,
The update failure might be caused by a variety of reasons such as connection issues, incomplete Components and firewall. For troubleshooting, specific error code of the failure update will be helpful.
You also could find installation failure events and error code in log files, such as WindowsUpdate.log (C:\Windows\ WindowsUpdate.log) and CBS.log(C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log). Here you first want to search for “error” in your logs. This will search for
Error entries. Focus on the day the installation attempt occurred. Refer to your time line of update log, find what error happened. Of course you could post your log content and we’d like to give it a look.
How to collect the specific error code of failure update:
We can do this by viewing your update history.
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
    2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
    3. Tap or click View your update history.
    View failed update error code.

  • Troubles printing with networked printers

I have a printer connected to a Mac Mini (with Leopard installed) and am trying to send something to print from my G5. The computer sees the printer but it always comes back saying "com.apple.print.recoverable-warning". Apparently it is having trouble communicating with the printer. The computers are connected through a wireless connection using a airport extreme base station. The printer is physically connected to the Mini since the usb has a external drive connected to it. There are no problems printing from the Mini but only when trying to do it from another computer on the network.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    D.J.

I get the same message (com.apple.print.recoverable-warning), but my printer is on, plugged in to a USB hub which is plugged into the TC. I've re-started the printer, plugged it directly into the TC USB port, added it as a new TC printer to my printer list and selected it, but no change. I'm about to give up on shared printing with the TC and just plug the printer back into one of my Macs.
Anyone have any other ideas? (Despite high hopes, the new Airport Utility update did nothing for me.)

  • File and Printer Sharing Problem with WRT54G

I am currently having problems sharing files over my network. My setup consists of:
    3 laptops (wireless)
    1 desktop (wired)
    WRT54G V6.0 router with firmware version 1.00.9.
All of the computers have File and Printer Sharing enabled, unique names, and are on the same workgroup. However none of the computers can see one another. When I try to view workgroup computers for my network places, the explorer window stops responding for about 30 sec. and then spits out a dialog with the error:
"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I think that this problem has something to do with the router, as I have been successfuly sharing files and a printer with these settings using a microsoft 802.11b router for over a year. After purchasing the linksys and swapping it out with my old router, filesharing no longer functions.
I have spent a little time browsing the forums and have seen other posts from people with simmiler problems, but was unable to find any solutions.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as you are, I have 2 computers on wired the other wireless the router is in between and I can't access from either side, although I can ping and remote connect but just cannot share files across the network. I have looked all over the forums too and there saying to ditch linksys and do something else.
Its not you thats caused this it is the firmware and the router that have the problems.
    My Specs:
    WRT-54G
    v5.0
That new firmware update 1.00.9 just isn't working right. I might downgrade my fireware to fix this problem.
