Hello,
I have followed the instruction to set my HP Photosmart C7250 for sharing but when I get to the dropdown to select turn on printer sharing I get the error message:
Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000007a).
What does this mean and what should I do to fix it?
thanks,

  • Sharing Files between Windows Vista and Macbook Pro

    Hi everyone!
I have just bought my first Macbook Pro and I love it. I am running Windows Vista on my desktop and connect wirelessly to the internet via a Netgear router. I have managed to connect to the internet with the Macbook Pro wirelessly too.
I am not sure how to set up file sharing between the PC and Macbook - can anyone point me to some SIMPLE instructions please?
    Many thanks

this is a wonderful article! thanks so much!
only one small change though. you don't really need to create another user ID to access the windows machine. i used my existing ID and it logged on fine!
but still, thanks for the rest of the article. i was totally lost without it...

  • Shared Metadata in Windows Vista

When I want to apply a metadata template in lightroom on my iMac, I am presented the full collection of xmp metadata templates generated mostly with Photoshop.
When I try the same maneuver using Lightroom on my Windows Vista laptop, LR appears to be generating and accessing only those templates generated while using LR. Members of the Photoshop collection are not shown.
LR preferences do not appear to include choice of path to metadata templates (or did I miss that?).
    Any insights/suggested solutions welcome.

I did this quite successfully on our old family PC with Windows 2000 and iTunes 7.4. All 4 had own Windows accounts. iTunes was set up for each user to use a shared folder to store the music files. This way everyone could have an own iTunes library with own playlists, evaluations etc, but all music was accessible to everyone, though after adding music with one account others need to include add the shared folder again in the library to add new music into own library.
The same works now on our new family PC with Vista and iTunes 7.5 after copying the Music files, iTunes library files for each user and defining the new shared music folder location in iTunes. To be able to listen to music bought from iTunes Music Store I had to authorize the new computer, and I also deauthorized the old one before getting rid of it so that I don't keep one additional computer authorized forever for no reason.
However, one thing doesn't work like it did on Win2000 and I haven't found an acceptable solution yet:
We have bought music from iTunes MS using two different accounts, mine and my daughter's. The first time I try to play something bought by my daughter I need to authorize the computer using her Apple ID. Then the song plays and synhronizes with iPod ok.
But next time someone else wants to play any of the songs bought by my daughter, he/she is required to authorize the computer again. And next time I do the same, I'll have to do it again. After each authorization it says that I have only 1 of 5 authorizations used. So each authorization cancels previous authorizations done using other accounts on the same computer.
I might even accept using 4 of 5 computer authorizations for each user of the same computer, but iTunes doesn't give such option.
I've considered setting up a shared quest account for everyone for using iTunes, but then I would lose personal iTunes libraries.
    Any better ideas?

  • Printing From iBook To Printer on a Vista, Can't see Vista shared printers

Printing From iBook To Printer on Windows Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printer on a Vista machine from a Mac, although Windows notebooks find it immediately. When same machine is booted into XP the priners share perfectly with both of my iBooks, but when the same machine is booted into Vista with the printer shared etc, the iBooks don't see the printer. Other Windows machines on the newtork do see the shared printers in Vista.
I have previously always had success sharing printers on Windows XP machines with my iBooks. . However upon installing Vista on my desktop I find I can no longer find the printer in the Mac's printer setup utility. When I dual boot back to XP everything works fine, but on the same machine when I boot into Vista I am unble to see the printers. The Mac printer setup utility finds the Vista machine on the network, but the printers are never visible. Is their some secret or channge in Vista that prevents Mac's running , in my case,Tiger 10.4.8 from seeing a shared printer on a computer running Vista
On the Vista machine, if I boot into XP The printer is shared and Windows notebooks can print to it, but neither of my iBooks can see the Printers when Vista is running.

Even though Apple does not say that the Bonjour for Windows printer wizard works for Vista, it does. Download it from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html and install it on your PC.

That might have been the situation for the beta's and first RC's, but I have a final build. Plus the fact that other Windoze notebooks see the printer on the Vista box just fine leads one to believe it is a mac/Vista specific issue.
If anyone actually has experience with a MAC and Vista , I would appreciate hearing from you.

  • Printing from MacBook to a printer shared through Windows Vista

    Hi Everybody,
I'm unable to print anything from my Mac laptops to my HP printer which is shared via a Windows Vista PC.
I have a wireless home network with a PC, a latest model Powerbook G4 15"/1.67 and a MacBook Core2Duo. The PC is connected to an HP PSC 2355 All-In-One printer.
When I had Windows XP SP2 installed on my main PC, I was able to print from my Mac laptops through Samba (Advanced printer, smb://guest@myIPaddress/printersharename) without any problems.
I recently upgraded my PC to Vista Ultimate (RTM Technet full version). Now, I can no longer print via my Mac laptops, since supposedly, Vista's implementation of Samba has changed. I can, however, print from my MacBook when it's running Windows XP SP2 without any problems. This leads me to believe that the sharing-side on the Vista PC is set up correctly. The XP to Vista over wireless printing obviously doesn't use Samba. The Vista share does not have a password on it.
I've installed the Foomatic/HPIJS drivers on both my MacBook and the Powerbook. These are the errors:
Powerbook: "Unable to connect to SAMBA host"
MacBook: "The process "foomatic-rip" stopped unexpectedly with status 1"
I've tried all kinds of combinations for Samba, and also via the option "Windows Printing". My PC is in the same network Workgroup as the Macs, and they can see my Vista PC fine. I can also connect and share files with my Vista PC without any problems and connect through Samba using Finder (for file sharing). I cannot, however, see my shared printer through the Windows Printing dialog.
    Can anybody help me out?

  • Printing to a windows Vista shared printer.

    Hello,
I have a shared Canon PIXMA MP160 attached via USB to a windows Vista box. I have tried several ways to print to this printer form my macbook. I have tried the normal 'Windows Printing' with no success. It pops up a box with user name and password, i enter it, and nothing happens(just times out). I then found a thread that recommended the following:
    On the Vista PC
    1. From Windows Vista Control Panel
    2. Select "Programs and Features" pane
    3. Click "Turn Windows Features on or off"
    4. Turn on the LPD protocol.
    5. Ensure printer(s) are shared
    On the Mac
    1. Start Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility
    2. Hold down the "Option" key and click the "More Printers" button
    3. From the top menu select "Advanced"
    4. From the "Device:" field select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
    5. In the "Device URL:" lpd://VistaPCName/PrinterShareName
    6. Click the "Add" button
This was also unsuccessful. I know the printer works as i hooked it up directly to the mac. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You have done some good research. One more thing - the driver from Canon was written to support direct USB printing only. You need a CUPS driver to use the various protocols available in the CUPS printing system in OS X. Look for CUPS drivers for your model here:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx

Try Gutenprint first, but your model might not be in there.

  • No Bonjour printers available on Windows Vista Ultimate

    Hello,
This is my first go around with a Mac. I'm attempting print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.7) to a HP Photosmart C4680 printer that is on a wireless network through a Dell desktop PC that is running Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've installed Bonjour for Windows on the PC, the printer is shared, but when I use the Bonjour application it states that no Bonjour printers are available. Why is this? How do I change this?
I've also attempted to complete print sharing from the following guidance, but I'm running into a roadblock trying to find the printer on the network.
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/printsharevista.htm
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. I have a printer connected to an XP machine through USB and also a printer connected to a Vista machine through USB. I have a Mac wirelessly connected on my LAN. Even though all three computers are set up for file sharing and printer sharing, the Mac cannot see either of the Windows machines nor their respective printers. Apple has not been able to solve this seemingly simple problem. Hey, come on Apple and Microsoft, why can't you two get along??

  • Windows 7 computers asking for network password to access shared files and printers on Windows XP PRO computer.

I have a network of 10 computers configured as peer-to-peer work group. I have upgraded one of the ten from Windows XP PRO to Windows 7 PRO. The other nine computers are all running XP PRO. AS near as I can tell they are all configured the same. I have the
same user and same passwords on all computers. One of XP computers is used as a print server. The Windows 7 computer initially was able to access shared files and printers on all XP machines with out requesting a network password.
Suddenly, the Win 7 computer began requesting a network password to access the shared files and printers on the XP print server. It will not accept any of the user names or passwords (all administrators on both machines with identical names and passwords.)
The Win 7 computer has no problem accessing the shared files on the other XP machines. It can even access shared printers in a different work group. Apparently something has changed but I'm at my wits end trying to figure what changed on either the Windows
7 machine or the print server XP machine.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Disable simple file sharing on the Windows XP computer:
How to disable simple file sharing and how to set
permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP
    2.
On the Windows 7 computer, go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings” and ensure that the
    following items are turned ON:
    Network Discovery
    File and printer sharing
    And this one is OFF:
    Password protected sharing
    3.
Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works.
    In addition,
I would like to share the following with you for your reference:
    Troubleshoot file and printer
    sharing
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • How can I add a shared printer USB plugged to the Time Capsule (on a windows vista PC)

Setting up an airport network was very easy, and is very intuitive and friendly working on a mac.  However, I tried to install the shared printer remotely on a windows vista PC and... well, that's a diffrent story.  Can anybody help?  Thanks!

If you have not already done so, you will need to download,  install and run Bonjour for Windows on the PC.
If you have already done this, what error messages are you receiving?

  • GPP Delete policy not working on Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS when deleting shared printers with status access denied.

    Hi!
I Have one AD Security group for each shared printer, I have one GPP that map the printer if the user is in the security group that belong to the printer. And one GPP to delete the printer if the user is NOT member of the security group. The security group
is also applied in “Security” tab on the printsrv with PRINT rights  and “everyone” is removed. This works 100 % on Windows 7 clients and Windows 2003 Terminal Servers. But on Windows 2008 R2 RDS this dont work. The Delete Policy will not delete the shared
printer. No warning in any logs, and the gpresult shows that the gpo setting applyed sucessfully. The only way I can make the Delete policy work is if i give the user print rights on the printer on the printsrv. Looks like for the policy to work on 2008
R2 the user must have print rights on the printer object on the printserver. The GPP Delete Policy will not delete printers that have status : access denied. Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that we need to give users appropriate permissions, for the error
Access is denied is more or less related to permissions.
However, we can avoid deploying the GPP printer delete policy. As far as I know, we can use Item-Lvel Targeting of GPP to push the shared printers
to the targeted users or groups.
Regarding ILT, the following articles can be referred to for more information.

    Hi All,

We have just had a new Samsung printer installed in the office which all PC's have been enabled for printer sharing, but I cant seem to get my Mac to pick up the Shared printer. I'm also trying to set up a folder on the main PC that I can send files to from my mac. The shared folder has been created on Windows Vista - but I'm unable to see that shared folder in finder. Could these 2 issues be related? please can someone help me make my work days just a little bit easier
    Thanks so much
