Sharing projects between libraries

I'm looking for a solution to share projects in sync between multiple libraries, without having to export & import projects each time. I'd like the shared projects to be in sync between the libraries.
I'm putting together a highlights portfolio, so in each of my many libraries, I have a "best of" project for the selects. I'd like each of these "best of" projects to be seen by a separate library which is just used to make my portfolio. Any time I update the best of in a given library, I'd like that to be reflected in the shared project in the portfolio library.
Is there a solution/workaround for this?
I found a free script that is supposed to make this possible, but I've had no luck with it thus far...

I'm running 2.1.2

Thanks a lot for your response, RB -- I read the page you referenced:
http://photo.rwboyer.com/2008/09/managing-aperture-2-on-multiple-computers/
And maybe I'm missing something, but I don't believe that either of these two approaches solves my particular problem?
It seems that both approaches require that you import/export projects, or relocate masters, etc. What I'm looking to do is have projects from multiple libraries synced with each other "live", with out having to import/export or manage anything manually.
Simplest example: I have one library called "Brazil," and in it I have a project I've named "Best of Brazil". I have another library called "Portfolio," where I pull together all my best work from various projects. What I want is for the "Best of Brazil" project to show up automatically in the "Portfolio" project. And anytime I'm in the Brazil library & add some new shots to the Best of Brazil project, next time I go into my Portfolio library, those new shots or edits should be automatically in the mirrored Best of Brazil project -- inside the Portfolio library.
It's kind of like seeing & accessing other libraries, but only projects you've designated as shared...
Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot!

  • How do you move events and projects between Libraries in iMove 10

    I am running OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks) & iMovie 10.0.5.
I am trying to free up space on my internal 1TB hard drive and want to archive events and completed projects onto an external hard drive, which has a second iMove v10 Library on.  Under V9 of iMovie this function was easy, but I am struggling under V10.
What is the correct way to move events between libraries in iMovie.
When I attach the external drive containing my second iMovie Library, open it I can see all existing events stored (by move) under version 9 of iMovie.
Reading the Help (extract below) for this function it implies highlight the Event to move & then drag & drop into the second Library.
Shift+CMD with drag and drop onto the second library at the library name level will move Events that are not tied to a project, but for completed projects (Finalized under V9 or shared for example with iTunes in V10) it seems these can not be moved, the above function only copies them to the second library.
I have tried all different combinations of the Fn, Ctrl, Option CMD keys etc with and without SHIFT and the ones that work for this function only copy the event. I can not seem to get an event moved once attached to a project. File - Move Event will also move Events not tied to a completed project.
I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events.  Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
What I have also not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
I have been able to move Events not tied to a Project to the second Library, then create a new project within this Library.  This helps with all new projects & future import of Events. But does not help me free up current space by archiving.
    Extract from help
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
             Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
Would appreciate any help on this matter.
    Thanks
    Colroy

Further to my original post below; I have done further analysis and it seams that if you have events tied to a project (mine are all finalised) you can not move events between Libraries.  However, events that are not tied to a project can be moved. Either by Shift CMD or by using File- Move event.
What I have not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
Copy works for events attached to a project. I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events.  Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
Does anyone know how to archive (move) Projects and/or events in iMovie 10.0.05 under Mavericks 10.9.5 to a second library on an external drive.
    Thanks

  • Sharing projects between macs (iMovie 2014)

Hi guys, I just want to ask... how can I share my projects between my iMac and my Macbook air? I started one project in one of them and now I must finish it in the other one.
I found this (in spanish) but is for iMovie '11 and it doesn't work. (iMovie '11: Copiar o mover un proyecto a un disco rígido externo) and I've iMovie 10.0.4.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hey Espartak
I've retraced my steps and I think I missed a stage in my instuctions above, so here is some revised instructions.  Item 4 has changed from my original
    I am using iMovie 10.0.4
    1. Create a new iMovie library and savedit on an external hard drive with a different name to the current Library. File>open Library>New
You will then see the new library and the old library in the left hand panel.
    2. Drag your movie events from one library to the other and this then copies the files into the new library.
    3. Ctrl click on the event you have just copied and click “Consolidate Event Media”  this will make sure the files are copies to the new library.
    4. In the left had column there is “ALL PROJECTS” but there is also an item called “UPDATED PROJECTS” mine appears in my library list under 2013 ??  I don’t know why that is, maybe it is when I updated iMovie?  Anyway in here you will find all of the projects again only from here you can move them around.  Select the project that you want to copy and drag and drop it over the name of the event in the new library.  Then when you click on that event you can see that the project is also there.
    5. Once finished click on the new library in the left hand panel Ctrl click and click close library
    6. Plug in your external drive to your other Mac. You can either copy your new library from you external drive or leave it there.  Open iMovie
    7. Find the new library on your external drive/or mac and double clicked it.  This then openes iMovie and it imported all of the projects as well as the events.
See if that works for you

  • Problems sharing music between libraries

I'm having trouble sharing music from my computer to my wives computer on the same network different apple id's. This was never a problem in the past. has there been any changes to prevent this?

Whilst you can share the content between two different libraries using a different Apple ID for the iTunes login, they both need to use the same Apple ID for homesharing (iTunes > file > homesharing)

  • Sharing music between libraries

I am running xp pro and itunes 7.1. Have 4 ipods in the house, me, wife, two kids. I like some of the kids music, they want some of mine, ditto for my wife. Have individual users set up in win. how do i share the music we want between the different libraries. some of the musice is from cds that I have, and some is purchased at the itunes store. someone suggested doing manual syncs, but we am not that sophisticated. Can anyone help?

The music is stored under each persons XP iTunes folder. (C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\My Documents\My Music\iTunes)
If you have access to each others "My Documents" folders using Windows Explorer (click on "My Computer" from the Start Button) you can navigate to the appropriate songs and double click on them while logged on under you XP user ID. iTunes will automatically remember where the location is and add it to your library.
If you "consolidate" your libabry (under the Advanced pulldown menu from iTunes), you will create a copy of the song in your own iTunes folder.

  • Sharing faces between libraries

Hello, I have 2 Macs with iPhoto installed. Because I cannot access both Macs all the time, I started naming different faces on these different Macs.
After spending hours doing this (because face recognition is actually quite bad), I thought I would gather all named people (that are in different libraries), using the iPhoto sharing tool (bonjour).
Horror! Names are not transferred. Do I have to renamed half of the faces all over again? How am I supposed to do?
    Thanks.

iPhoto Library Manager will do this for you, but you'll nee to wait for it to be fully updated to work with iPhoto 11.

  • Co-writing with Garageband for iPad: sharing projects between 2 iPads

    Hello, all,
I am hoping somebody can help me achieve what something that it strikes me that Garageband on the iPad should be perfect for, but which I just can't seem to figure out!
I am the guitarist in a band, and hoping to use my iPad to co-write songs with the singer, who lives in another town.
We can't always get together for writing sessions, but, since we both have iPads, I assumed that I could start projects by making some instrumental recordings on my iPad, and then share the project with the singer to add vocals on their iPad, and that they could then send the track back to me for further editing, adding extra parts to, etc.
This seems like it would be a great way to develop songs with a co-writer without having to be in the same room -- but I just can't figure out how to do it!
It seems I can send a sound file to email from my iPad's Garageband, but how would the singer import that file into their iPad's Garageband? Surely it can't be that difficult, but I've read a lot online and there just doesn't seem to be a way to do this.
Any suggestions or advice would be very gratefully received!

    Hi Zapruder,
On the 'Help' file on my ipod there'sn a section about uploading the file to SoundCloud. Have you checked it out yet?

  • Sharing Motion projects between versions

I've tried to search for it but didn't find something about it.Is it possible to share a Motion project between users that have different versions of Motion (1.0.1, 2, 2.1.1) and if so how should it be exported?

AFAIK, Motion 1 and 2 can share projects, the only problem arises when a project contains effects/behaviors not available in Motion 1 or maybe renamed between Motion 1 and 2.
But I've honestly not done sharing - the Fun With... that I post are always saved from Motion 2. In theory any that don't use the Replicator or new filters/behaviors should work in Motion 1... perhaps someone running Motion 1 will answer.
I recently posted that Gas Sign project specifically not using Motion 2 constructs, but that guy never posted back...

  • Sharing a project between two Macs?

Is it possible to share an un-finished iMovie project between two different Macs?
    And if yes, how?
And is it possible to share an iMovie 08' project with an iMovie 09' project?
Thank you for your help :'D

    Hi
I think an intermediat external hard disk
    • FireWire
    • Mac OS Extended formatted (MUST BE)
Storing material and project on this should make it "Share-ably" but not
in same time of-course. One at a time.
    and
    • iMovie'09 on both Macs (I would go for exactly same version no. and same regarding
    QuickTime and it's version no.)
(Heart of iLife and FinalCut it's the real motor doing the job. iMovie is just an interface to it.)

  • Is it Possible to Sync Certain Projects Between Macs?

It would be very helpful if my wife and I could synchronize certain Aperture projects (not our entire Aperture libraries) between the Aperture libraries on several Macs. Is this possible? We both use the .aplibrary scheme to store our photos.
    Thanks!

    Hi David,
Aperture is a single-user application, designed to be used by one person in one place at one time.  It provides no multi-user functions, nor is there any automatic way to sync Libraries for use in different locations.
There are work-arounds involving exporting and importing/merging, or putting the shared Projects on a Library on a (literally) shared disk that only one of you opens at any time.  That's it, afaik.
You can add your voice to the chorus asking for some sharing/syncing via "Aperture➞Provide Aperture Feedback".

  • Shared Project Workflow Problem: Hitting a Wall with Markers

    Hi there,
Apologies in advance for the long note.  We're using Adobe CC to edit and finish commercials and are having a significant issue regarding shared project workflow.  First, some context:
We often edit projects remotely.  When this happens, assistants and other editors who remain in LA will have access to the media on our SAN while the editor and assistant traveling out of town will have their own copy of the media.  I know Adobe Anywhere would solve any issue relating to two identical sets of media in use in different cities, but we're a small shop and the hardware and software expense don't make sense for us at this time.  Please do not respond to anything mentioned from here on by stating we should just get Adobe Anywhere.  Thanks.
What will regularly happen is that the remote editor and assistant will need work done on the project here in LA while they're in session with the clients.  Sometimes this work involves marking up clips with comment markers so the editor can more easily locate a specific moment.  Here's where the problem arises.
Unlike FCP and Avid, Premiere handles markers within the clip's metadata.  So, if I have two separate projects linking to separate but identical instances of media, one of those media instances gets updated with new markers, there is currently no way to get those markers to the other project without also shuttling the new marked-up media.  This is not possible when a remote editor needs dailies marked up in a couple hours and is working across the country or abroad.
But let's assume for the sake of argument that it is possible and we apply this workflow.  Let's also assume that in the time it takes the local assistant to mark up the clips for the remote editor, the editor has added a couple markers of his own, which is reasonable and happens all the time.  Now when the editor links to the newly marked up clips he's received via shipment, he'll wipe out all the markers he's made on his own since giving the order to mark up the footage.  That is a significant inconvenience, especially with clients in the room asking stuff like "can we look at the take where the guy says 'good' instead of 'great'?"
So what happens if we just have repeating sets of media, so that every time the clips markers get updated, the editor actually imports those clips, even though the picture and audio data in those clips is completely redundant to what's already in the project.  The issues with this are, as I can see it, 1) increasing the amount complexity within the project so that you'd have to scan many bins of dailies to look for a single marker, 2) increasing by orders of magnitude the amount of storage space needed, 3) even if problems 1 and 2 are handled, if you have to go to finish with multiple versions of a cut, and those versions reference separate instances of the same clip from different bins, Premiere's dupe frame detection will not work and you'll need to spend a lot of extra time locating duplicate clips manually before sending your EDL or XML off to final color grading.
At this point, I think it's necessary to interject something:  we're talking about markers here.  Why is this such a problem?  FCP and Avid have no such issues simply by making markers - even clip markers - part of the project metadata.  From what I understand, Adobe has chosen to do things differently because of dynamic link, so that After Effects and Prelude, for example, could add markers to a clip and those markers would ripple across all instances of that clip in the different applications.  It's a great feature which we take advantage of here from time to time.
    So what's the solution?
My workaround in CS6, which does not solve the issue of needing to merge clip markers so that an editor's markers and an assistant's markers can be applied to a single piece of media, was to turn off "write XMP ID to Files on Import."  This would generate an XMP sidecar file which could be easily passed along with a project file to the remote editor, who could then overwrite his local XMP sidecars with the new ones containing the new marker info.
However, in Premiere CC that is no longer possible.  It appears that if Premiere CC can access the XMP ID on a file, it will not generate a sidecar regardless of what you have set in your media preferences.  We use ProRes Proxy as our dailies format (again, please no comments on this, it is not up for debate at this time) and Premiere can get to the XMP ID within the files and will not, no matter what it seems, generate an XMP sidecar.
We could change the company workflow to use DNxHD 36 instead of ProRes Proxy, which would give us XMP sidecars, but that would not solve the issue of needing to merge marker lists between projects non-destructively.
The best solution I can think of would be to have a script or some kind or built-in feature which would allow for the batch export, import and merging of marker lists.  This way Adobe could keep its current clip-metadata-based marker workflow while giving professional users needing more flexible marker behavior the ability to have assistants non-destructively modify clip markers without necessitating the creation of extra media or project complexity.
I would really love some input on this and ideas from the pro community out there who has experience with shared project workflows - especially projects being shared remotely.  There's not a lot of info out there about this and it would be great to hear what others are doing.
Thanks a million for sticking with this, if you've made it this far.
    Best,
    Jon

    Thanks Jim,
I understand that Adobe Anywhere solves this, but there should be this fairly basic functionality (which exists in Avid and FCP) in a non-enterprise edition of the software.  I have submitted a couple different feature requests about this, going back to CS5, so hopefully enough people make similar requests for a fix to be implemented.  Adobe Anywhere is really not a solution for our small shop as currently configured/priced, especially when we can have editors working remotely with very affordable USB 3 drives.  The only hangup is the markers, which just isn't worth a 5 figure fix.  As such it's hard to consider the problem solved for either us or any small shop or post crew.
    Best,
    Jon

  • Confused about sharing music between two ipods

I have a 30GB ipod video, and I bought my husband an 8GB nano for Christmas. I have been searching the threads trying to figure out how we can share music, but I seem to get conflicting information. I understand how to create separate libraries and I think I understand how to allow him access to my library (move itunes music folder into public folder?) but am still unclear about sharing music between ipods. Because in some of the posts, I have read that while you can share music and listen to it via multiple itunes libraries, you can ONLY listen to it on the computer--you cannot get it onto another ipod due to anti-piracy measures.
I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library. I was hoping to set up a separate library for him, import my music files into it, then let him delete the artists he's not interested in and add the music he wants that I don't. But I don't want to go through all that if he won't be able to play the shared songs on his own ipod.
I hope all this makes sense. Can someone who shares songs in this way give me some advice? Again, I would like for us to maintain separate libraries but I would like to make mine available to him so he doesn't have to reimport all the CDs I've already imported (and I don't want to waste computer space by having multiple copies of the same songs).
    Any help would be appreciated!

I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library.
    Ver easy to accomplish.
I have one library, two 4GB iPods and ~20GB of music.
Rather than duplicating libraries or creating separate user accounts/sharing music you can't load, etc. which simply takes up space on the disk drive, use the same library and use sync only what you want.
Create playlist(s) of your own music from the library.
Add/remove from those playlists as you want.
Connect your iPod, select it in iTunes and select the Music tab.
Select Sync music, Sync selected playlists and choose what you want.
The way I do it is I create a main playlist (Chris's Music) of music in the library that I like.
I also create a smart playlist (Not Chris's Music) and set it to Match Rule - Playlist is not Chris's Music.
This helps to manage my music by showing all music not in main playlist so I can browse for music I may have missed or now want to add.
I do the same for my daughters iPod except she gets to pick her own stuff.
This way whenever any music is added by either of us, it is available to the other with no problems.

  • Sharing SharedObjects between multiple .swfs

Relatively simple problem; I have a project that I think may be more manageable if I break it up into multiple small .swf files rather than having a gargantuan mega .swf.
Now, I know that I could use a root .swf and load data from the others, but I think that it'll be a lot easier to debug and update if I'm using separate self-contained .swfs, so this is the direction I'm currently investigating.
However, the .swfs won't really work unless I can have user-data persist between them, so I'm wondering if I can load a SharedObject saved by another .swf file? Are there any important caveats that I need to be aware of?
In particular, can anyone give me sample code that would allow me to do this with both an online and offline copy of the files; i.e - if I run the same set of .swfs from haravikk.com, and locally, I want them to still be able to share data with one-another. In this case though I won't need to worry about sharing data between a local copy and haravikk.com, just so long as the files themselves can pass data within whatever domain they're loaded it should be fine.

To do this I still need to make sure that all .swfs are retrieving/flushing their SharedObjects to the same domain though, right?
I'm curious, is there a good way to work out what the right domain is dynamically?
For example; say I have "Menu.swf", and "About.swf", both store in the same folder "MySite", so the files are located at "MySite/Menu.swf" and "MySite/About.swf" respectively. To avoid tying the files to a particular domain-name (so it can still work offline) I'd like to grab the current location of the .swf, and remove the file-name so that I have a domain containing just the enclosing folder.
Is there a best way to do this? Basically so I can have my .swf files using a consistent domain for storing/saving, while still supporting relocating the files, so they will work offline if I copy them to my local machine for example.

  • Moving photos between libraries

I take lots of photos, and, with previous incarnations of iPhoto, this was a bit of a problem. To get around it, I created multiple users on my computer, each with a themed library (family, travel, hobbies, etc.)
With iPhoto 6 I can have much larger libraries, and multiple libraries for a single user. I have migrated my libraries (via an external hard drive) back to my main user, and open them as needed without a problem.
Is there any way to move photos (original and modified, as a package) from one library to another? Or to merge libraries?
I can export and then import from one to another, but I lose the original. Or I can burn to a disc, and then import, but this is time consuming and wasteful of discs.
    Any other suggestions?

    luba:
Yes there is. The paid version of iPhoto Library Manager will let you move photos between libraries along with the originals, keywords, etc. It's about the only way to do it.
With iPhoto's new alias mode there is a way to have several users use the same set of source files but each have their own edits, etc. You would place the source files in the Shared library and everyone use them as their source files. FWIW I've created some Tutorials to assist users covert from a conventional library to an alias based system.
