Sharing - Releasing/Stopping other users of AirTunes.

My office shares an Express for playing music over community speakers. Often the other user will leave the office with his iTunes still playing. This makes it difficult for me to stop, pause, control volume, or just be able to play my music because the speakers are already in use.
Is there a way to force the Express to release it's connection with the other user?
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

  • How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my computer

How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my Macbook pro?

You may have to set up different user accounts in the computer if you wish to
continue sharing the computer among other people, and only use the Mail app.
Otherwise, if you use a webmail such as yahoo, gmail, or other, just use a browser
and login each time; then there is no saving of your email to the computer as such.
I've never used an email client software, nor had an ISP based email account. So
my numerous computers have never downloaded email into software. No loss.
But the answers do include setting up extra user accounts, not admin level, so the
other users do not mess with the operating system; a standard account or just a
guest account to use a browser to access web-based login email accounts, works.
There are third-party email client for OS X, some are free applications, others are
part of a larger browser product, such as SeaMonkey, & other Mozilla derivatives.
They provide an email segment or client aspect; unlike Firefox that's a browser.
Setup information should be within the Help viewer in the computer itself. Or by a
simple search online, including the OS X version and any email client software
your computer may have installed. Some browser software includes email client.
Also there are several ways to go in this matter. I don't see questions, only answers.
To learn how the Mail application works, if you want to import everyone's mail, then
figure how to set up user accounts in the OS X. Or use web-mail & login by browser.
Hopefully you can find the best solution for the unasked question.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sharing music with other users on same computer...possible?

I'd like to be able to share music between users who can log in on the same computer. Is this possible and how.
I currently have all the music in the admiistrators log in and can't see it when I log in as a regular user.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi,
Follow the instructions given in this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195
You might also want to uncheck the preference in the other Users accounts to prevent them from adding the song file to the hard disk when importing music. This means that only YOU as the admin can add files to the Library. You will find this preference under iTunes in the menu bar, Click on the "Advanced" tab and then the "General" Tab.

  • Sharing libraries with other user accounts

please help, iTunes gurus, I'm stuck.
I want to share iTunes libraries between 2 user accounts, on the same computer. The machine runs Windows XP Home, and both accounts are Computer Administrator level but have their file spaces set as private.
What I'd like is something similar to the sharing of an iTunes library over the network from another computer, is this possible?
If not, would I have to manually go through 2 ~35GB libraries to move those albums that both people like into "Shared Documents\Shared Music" then manually point iTunes to the new locations of the folders that were previously in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes" ?
    Clever suggestions welcomed.

I have done (most of) this and can see and share libraries while on my home network BUT, I can only listen to them through iTunes on the computer.
Is there a way to get them into my library so that theey sync to my ipod as well?

  • Sharing iPhoto with other users

I am working hard to make a conversion to my new iMac, learning as I go along. I have set up separate login accounts for each member of my family, but want to have a single repository for iPhoto for my wife and myself. I have downloaded a number of photo already, and so I moved my iPhoto folder into the shared user folder on the Macintosh HD, and was able to point the iPhoto application in my login to the photos without issue.
When I log in as my wife however, and try to point to the same iPhoto folder in the shared user folder of the Macintosh HD, I get a message that states "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it."
It seems like this should be fairly easy to solve, but I have not figured it out yet. Can someone help me out?
    Thanks!

These instructions are only valid for Tiger. It doesn't seem to be as simple using Leopard. I wanted to share my library with my husband's login and had to go in using Terminal to set the permissions correct after moving my iPhoto library to an external FW drive. What I did was copy the entire iPhoto library to the external drive and then opened a Terminal, cd-ing to the FW drive and into the "iPhoto Library" directory. Then to change the permissions, I did:
    find . -type d -exec chmod a+rwx {} \;
    and
    find . -type f -exec chmod a+rw {} \;
The first command gave read, write, and execute permission for the directories and the second gave read and write access to the regular files. The only thing I'm not sure about is what is going to happen when I add new pictures. Am I going to have to go through this again?

  • Sharing Music with other users.

I think what I am asking is possible but I just can't get it. All I wanna do is share my Itunes library with my girlfriends account on the mac. So when she opens her Itunes on her account she can view and add to the songs in my itunes library. I manage to get it so she can view what I had by putting my itunes music in the shared folder but when I add songs to the library it doesn't update her library and when she tries to add songs to the library it says she does not have the correct authority. Please help.

    Hello,
You can gift music, and you can share iTunes Libraries, but in this case, your girlfriend cannot import your tracks to her library and vice versa.
Sharing your iTunes library across computers
If your computer is connected to other computers over a local network, you can share items in your library and playlists with up to five of those computers (in the same subnet).
To share your library with other computers:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Sharing, and select “Share my library on my local network.”
Select the items you want to share.
To require users to enter a password before they can see your shared items, select “Require password” and enter a password.
For others to see your shared items, your computer must be on and iTunes must be open.
If you choose to share your entire library, its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries. To change the name others see, choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and type a new name in the Library Name field.
You can share movies; MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and AAC files; and radio station links; you can’t share programs purchased from Audible.com or QuickTime sound files.
Sharing is intended for personal use only.
Share being the constant word here... does that help any???? I know sometimes it takes time to really understand how iTunes works. The more time you spend learning, the sooner you will come to comprehend what you can do and what you can't. And you can always post here for help.

  • How do i share my itunes library with other users on the same mac

I'm trying to share my itunes library with other users on the same mac.  I have tried moving my library to a public folder but when the other user logs in they can't see it in the public folder?

Presuming you moved the entire iTunes folder to the shared folder the other users need to start their iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the iTunes Library.itl file in the shared folder.  Only once should be necessary.  Note that any changes anybody makes will be seen by everybody, so you have to trust each other a lot.
If all you moved are media files each user will have to add those files to their iTunes library.

  • Why do I see other users when I open Finder?  Devices, Shared, Places...

When I see "shared" and a user's name is listed, I assume they cannot see my files - but rather - they are only listed on the 'network' as a user that is in the area...is that correct?

If this is your own private home network, then they are a user on your network.
That most likely means they are using your network and internet connection.
If you are password protected they can't see your files but real hackers can blow through most passwords.
You might consider changing your network to require a password to use your network.
This will stop others from using your network and your bandwidth on the internet.
    Edit:
If this not your network and is a network on the road then it is normal to see other users on the network.

  • Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac

Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac?

Apparently so (as long as each user operates out of a different Mac User account).
After setting up home sharing in the various different user accounts on the Mac, you need to have iTunes open in the account that you want to Home Share from.
Now use fast User Switching to get into the account that you want to Home Share to. Launch iTunes in there. The library in the other account should appear as shared for you.

  • Question re. sharing iTunes library with other user accounts

    I have seen this document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
I want to share one library with four users on my account.  I'd like for any music purchased or ripped to this computer to end up in User 1's iTunes library, and for Users 2, 3 and 4 to have access to User 1s library just as User 1 does.
When I follow the directions for "Listening to another account's music files" in the above referenced document, it tells me to navigate to User 1's library through the dialog box that pops up after User 2 clicks "Add to LIbrary".
The problem is, when User 2 is doing that, and User 1 has put the iTunes library in ~user1/public, as the directions suggest, that dialog box won't allow user 2 to access User 1's Public folder.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance...
    Chris

Another long description in store here...
iTunes has two main elements. One is the library.itl database file.  When you open iTunes it is this that you see. It contains what music is in a library, playlists, date added, playcount, etc.  It is this that is really the library.  The other element are the media files. When you tell iTunes to play a track it checks in its library file which music file is associated with that track and goes and plays it.
Now you say, "for Users 2, 3 and 4 to have access to User 1s library just as User 1 does."  Do you really want User 4 to be able to go and delete or rename tracks, or change the playlists? This can be done if you really want it.  Or do you want each person to keep their own library [file] and share media?  Even that has disadvantages as a person might still be able to rename a file or even delete it for all.  At least everybody would have their own playlists, ratings, etc, though a person could delete a file and then it would appear as a broken link for others.  To be honest, iTunes isn't great for sharing.

Exactly what you want to do will involve different setups so before going into detailed insructions it would help to know which ones to provide.  Here's an sampling:

iTunes Home Sharing now works between users on same computer - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3865597  The problem with HS is I think you then end up with multiple copies of files, one for each user.  At least they cannot damage another's collection though.

Move the entire _iTunes folder_ located in *My Documents/My Music*/ to a Shared directory. Make sure to set this folder for read/write permissions for all users.
I set my permissions as follows OS 10.4.X:
first under the original owners login, change all permissions to read & write, then change 'group' to wheel. Then change the owner from the user to system (I applied to all within ~ may not be necessary).
Start iTunes holding the Shift key and select *Choose existing library* then pick the iTunes library file you moved into the Shared directory.
In iTunes 7.5, you'll need to hold the Option key and then pick the /Users/Shared/iTunes/iTunes Music
Quit iTunes and log out of your user and let her log in.
Start iTunes holding the Shift key and select *Choose existing library* then pick the iTunes library file you moved into the Shared directory.
Now she needs to File -> *Add folder to library* and pick *My Documents*/My Music*/*iTunes*/iTunes music*.
This will add all her music to the common library.
Once this is complete, she can delete *My Documents*/My Music*/*iTunes.
Do this for all users. Any changes made by one will be seen by all.

  • How do you share photos so other users on computer can view photos in a shared folder?

I have a Apple 2 TB Time Capsule running on a 27" iMAC.
I contacted Apple Phone Support to help instruct me last month on how to set up a shared folder so all users on this computer and people connected to my network iwthin the home can share family & vacation photos. Apple Support ran me through several steps to set this up although I can't seem to re-figure these steps out. Phone Support contract ended.
I currently have a shared folder set up and gave all computer and network users read & write access to view folder. When I did this last month, I was able to set up one person who was successful in being able view and upload the photos to the shared folder. Trying to provide wife access to Shared Folder and have been unsuccessful in doing this.
Can someone please attempt to provide instruction (step by step) on how to provide users access to a created Shared Folder. I have spent two evening attempting to figure this out with no success.
    Would greatly appreciate assistance.
