Sharing scripts across multiple computers
Hi,
I'm currently working on customizing Bridge (ie. custom file info panel, start-up scripts), but I would like to share the changes I make with a group of users.
So far, what I've been doing is modifying a start-up script or custom panel, and then sending it to each person, and telling them where on their system to put the file. It would be much easier to have a shared instance of the file, so I could just modify that file directly. Is this possible? (We all have access to a shared drive, but I can't figure out how to get something on that drive to be detected by Bridge)
Wayne,
I'm pretty sure there is no way to redirect Bridge and File Info to look elsewhere for custom panels.
One thing you might consider doing is publishing the shared panels on a web or FTP server on your intranet or on the internet. You could then use the JavaScript web and ftp access tools to write a script that would synchronize the panels in the local folder with panels on the server.

File sharing across multiple computers - is there an easier way?
Have a small office that is getting bigger, so we purchased a new 20" iMac. Previously, we had an old iMac G4 and iBook G4. All three computers are part of the same LAN.
In the past, we have shared files across the computers by first mounting a shared computer, then creating an alias to that share and copying the alias to the dock. This allowed us to just click an icon to have access to files on the other computer.
As the office has gotten bigger and we have added a new computer, we need a more reliable solution. We need to be able to access common files (such as word documents and Excel spreadsheets) in a single location. For example, the iMac G4 has document templates that we are constantly changing, but we want to make changes only to a common copy.
Can anyone make some suggestions?I know you can do this by exporting the common shared directory as an NFS share, and then configuring each client to transparently mount that share at a common point in the filesystem. For example, if you wanted to have a common set of fonts accessible to every client on your network, you could export /Library/Fonts on the server, and have every client mount it at ~/Library/Fonts. Applications running on the client access the fonts on the server, and don't know any differently.
Unfortunately, its not a trivial thing to set up on either the server or the client. I could try to come up with a tutorial, but I haven't had time to get into it myself to really comprehend all of the possibilities with using NFS like that. -
Newbie question about setting up iTunes to sync across multiple computers
Hi,
Right now I am using iTunes primarily for listening to streaming radio. However in about 2-3 weeks after I move, I am considering importing all my CDs into iTunes.
So my question is this. What can I do before I start that will make my life easier for syncing my iTunes across multiple computers.
I don't expect the computers to connect to each via internet but I do have a 4 GB flash disk and 230 GB firewire drive that could be used. And since one of the computers is MacBook Pro, I could use it in target mode I think.
Thanks.Authorization only applies to computers. When you update a device any protected content on the device for which the library is not authorised will be removed. Otherwise no attempt is made to remove content that was added by a now deauthorised library.
There is a separate scheme permitting up to 10 devices (computers, iPhones, iPad or iPod touches) to be registered for automatic downloads of your purchases with a different mechanism for deregistering devices.
Once you have a file on your computer you can physically copy it to any other computer in the same way that you would copy any other file like a Word document, put it on a disk, email it if not too large, burn it to DVD, stick it on an external hard drive or move it over a network. You can use Get Info. To tell you where it is now and you can drop it into the library at the other end.
The user tip shows how to backup the whole library and then update that backup efficiently. Such a backup to a portable drive also provides a possible tool for transporting any content to another computer.

Now that iCloud has done away with galleries, how can we share as I did with MobileMe? How can we sync non-Apple email accounts across multiple computers?
You will need to find a third party solution for online storage in order to share things like photos with others. Some popular solutions to this are dropbox and sugarsync.
You cannot sync non-iCloud email accounts across your iOS devices and computers unless they are IMAP accounts like iCloud. If they are IMAP accounts, you will do it in the same way as you have always done. -
Is it possible to access a single Lightroom catalogue mounted on a shared drive from multiple computers, each with an individual Lightroom install?
Thanks.
Steve GreenbergNo, Lightroom catalogs cannot be on a networked (shared) drive, and they do not support simultaneous multi-user access

Manually controlling music across multiple computers
I've seen a lot of similar posts about this and I find it quite frustrating that I was able to manually control my music with my 30GB ipod across multiple computers but my iphone locks me down to just one computer.
Even if I decide to use the 'manual' option it just doesn't let me add music to my iphone from multiple computers. I am constantly directed to erase and re-sync with the new computer. It's not a solution I like considering what I can do with my older ipod.
The only solution I found so far was to jailbreak the iphone but I refuse to go that path. I read a few reasons Apple released as to why it was limited and find it very silly for lack of a better word.
Anyone experience the same frustration and have a solution? Or know if there is an update to resolve this any time soon?
Thanks!One thing that might help.
The iphone will only sync music and video content from one computer at a time.
If you want to sync music or video content from a second computer, itunes will remove what the first computer put on the iphone.
One thing you can do though, is combine our itunes library onto one computer.
This article might help out.

Syncing ical across multiple computers without .mac
Hi,
Is it possible to sync ical calendars across multiple computers in the same network or over the internet without .Mac? If I have a website or ftp server, can I use that instead to synce over the internet or is there an easier way? Thanks. This is another related question.
Having at last extracted a decade of diaries from Palm Desktop as vCal (since you ask I had to go back to Classic as the app quit without writing the export file in Tiger and Leopard, even tho it is otherwise OK) I now have something I can import rather messily into iCal.
However as I have really bad internet access in the Boondocks where I live I don't want to use .Mac to sync between my iMac and iBook. Palm ran very happily from a thumb drive, but I don't see how I can do it as the powers that be seem to have made the data file invisible.
I'd like to move it to the thumb drive and have an alias on each Mac where the data should be - as I do with Palm.
Does anyone know the path, and if there is a problem doing it between Tiger and Leopard?
Cheers, Colin -
Sharing Library across multiple machines
I have a shared network drive in my house and want to have multiple computers (two Macs and one PC) all have access to the same library. I have all of the machines pointing to the same mucis folder so that is not a problem.
I would like to be able to add music to the library from any of the machines but then be able to update the individual iTunes screens to show all of the music in the folder.
After putting in several hundred songs and going to each machine and using Add Library (Add Folder to Library on the Windows PC), I now find that I have duplicated the MP3 files in the album directories. The iTunes screens on each computer only shows the songs listed once but the files are duplicated.
There has to be a way to do this without duplicating all of these files.
Thanks for any suggestions.
DavidDavid,
there is no auto-sync feature build-in into iTunes.
As a workaround when adding/importing music put those tracks on a seperate playlist (or use a smart playlist) and export this playlist to a shared folder.
Then import this playlist on your two other computer.
To avoid dupes disable in iTunes Preferences Advanced "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder ...." -
Forecast Roll-Over Script across multiple years
Hello Experts,
I currently have the below Script and Prompt but it only works for one Fiscal year and I need help changing it so that it can be used across multiple years, my issue is below:
If I have project TEST and it started in 2013.011 and ends in 2014.004, I have forecast values for all periods so when I run the script I'm prompted to "select forecast year" and "select forecast version based on previous period"
So when I run from 2013.11 (forecast version P11) to 2013.12 (forecast version P12) that works fine but it's not working to roll-over from 2013.012 to 2014.001
Any help is much appreciated.
Thx,
Shane

Sharing portlets across multiple portal applications
Hello all,
I have a single enterprise application that consists of several portal web applications. Most of these portal web applications have common portlets within their codebase. Is it possible to share portlet code across multiple web applications?
ThanksNo, not possible, in the same way that sharing JSPs and Pageflows wouldn't be possible across multiple webapps. You can, however, have multiple portals within one Portal webapp, and then you could share portlets and portlet resources amongst those portals.

What is the best workflow for Final Cut Pro X across multiple computers?
I travel on a team that is in a different location every week, so all of our video editing has to be fairly moble. We have 3 macbook pros and would like to use final cut X on all of them. What would be the best workflow for us all to work on the same project and sync it across the computers? (eg, one of us editing the footage, one editing the sound, one working on visual effects?)
My first question would be how well 5.1 would work with SL. People have reported problems.
As far as cameras are concerned, I would guess most any tape-based camera would work and so much depends on the kind of projects you work on that I wouldn't want to start guessing at your needs.
If you want broad access to tapeless and advanced formats try to locate and purchase an upgrade disk to 6 or 7.
Good luck.

I'm experiencing a very strange problem where the same website consistently loads slowly on Firefox for Windows but it loads at a normal speed on Firefox for Mac. This problem occurs on multiple computers. The website is https://www.cwds.pa.gov and I'm using Firefox 26.
If I open up Network in the Developer tools and check the Timings for the page, I see that Firefox on Windows generally spends >30 seconds on the PublicHomePage.aspx file. Looking for more detail under Timings, I see that most of the time is spent receiving the file. I might be mistaken, but if the problem lies in the server sending the file slowly shouldn't the aspx file also take a similar amount of time in Firefox for Mac?
Also, I don't experience this problem when using IE9 on the same PCs that experience this problem. So far it's happened on multiple Windows computers, some of them VMs and some of them actual hardware.
I'm not the author of this web site, but I'm trying to support users who are attempting to access the site. To me it seems like something weird is going on in the Windows build of Firefox, given that the Mac build works ok and other browsers on the same computer also load the page fine. It is a government web site, though, so it could just be some unusually horrible markup causing the problem. :) Thanks!Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you. -
Sharing an iTunes library across multiple computers
I tried Home Share but it did not do what i expected. In addition to doing Home Share, the files need to be copied to each computer apparently.
Is it permitted to have the iTunes Library be located on a shared disc (such as one attached to an AirPort Express)? So that one copy of the library would be used by all copies of iTunes running in the house?
I am confused because different products seem to work differently. If I set up my iMac and my Mac Book with Home Share, each of htem needs a copy of the library in its own disk space. But if I set up Apple TV to use Home Share, it plays my videos from the hard drive of my iMac. Yes both describe Home Share as the same concept.
So far it appears that MacBook and iMac do not share libraries in the sense of using a single copy on disk.
What about iPhone and iPad? Do they read the library from the home sharing computer or do the media files need to be downloaded ahead of time to the iOS device?
What am I missing here?
Thanks,
BruceNot really. Each computer will have a separate library within iTunes. They can be set to use the same file storage location but I have no idea how to do that with a Mac.

Why doesn't Screen Sharing work across multiple displays anymore in Mavericks?
Hey Guys,
I'm having a problem with Screen Sharing in Mavericks. It wasn't a problem in Mountain Lion, so I'm wondering if you could help me.
I use a Mac Pro with multiple displays to connect to another Mac Pro with multiple displays. Here's how it looks at first:
Two remote desktops shown in one window on one display locally. (Note: there are two different displays connected to this Mac Pro.)
In Mountain Lion, I used to be able to scale this up across displays. When I do that now, the remote desktop scales down to the lower-left corner. Observe:
When I mouse over it, there's some screen tearing (artifacts):
Any ideas?
Notes:
Yes, I've Google'd it.
I don't have Mavericks' multi-display support enabled. I disabled it to spread out Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects usage.
Thank you,
Isaac T.(bump)
