Sharing Smart folder definitions (not contents)

Is there an easy way to share smart folder definitions between computers in Mail? I have a Smart Folder on Mac #1 that is capturing the email messages I want it to. Now I want to re-create the same Smart Folder on Mac #2 without having to write down the search terms and manually re-create.

If they are both running the same version of Mac OS X, you can share the definitions of all the smart folders easily by copying the SmartMailboxes.plist file to the same location on the other Mac. but if you just want to share the definition of one, that's going to be time-consuming.
It's easier just to write down the criteria you used for the first Mac and create a Smart Mailbox on the second Mac.

Multiple logins sharing music folder, but not Library

I recently bought a new iMac for me and my wife. Our last one we shared the login, but now we each want our seperate logins, but we listen to the same music. We both buy our own CD's, but we always used to listen to them on the old iMac, and had the files transferred to both of our iPods. But under seperate logins, there are issues.
The problem happens when one person imports a CD, the other persons Library doesn't get updated, even if you are sharing the folder where the music goes.
This is also a problem becuase if a user imports a cd, another user can't put an image on the album art for that album.
Is there a way to choose where the Library file goes, or choose which one I want iTunes to use, rather than iTunes telling me what it wants to choose (by forcing one in my home folder).
I believe this may fix the problem, because Apple's solution of doing a quick logout really won't work for me. Neither me, nor my wife, want to log out of our own account to import music, then to have to go back to our own account and drag and drop files into the library to have them update.
I seem to be having this same problem with iPhoto, but that will go on another forum.

Thanks for the advice. That is actually something I have done as a work around. Though it is inconvenient for me to have to login to her space and import in her iTunes, it is easier for me to navigate around and do the harder stuff. Works so far.
I really hope some person involved in the development of iTunes can address this and let you choose where all the files go, not just the music files.

Third party application can list contacts from shared contacts folder, but not retrieve

I am working with a third party developer on a problem occurring in their application.<o:p></o:p>
The software displays the contact list and retrieves a fax number from Outlook. I wish to
return a number from an Outlook Shared Contacts Folder.
This works well under Windows 7 with Outlook 2013 in cached mode..<o:p></o:p>
Running the same software in a terminal services window on a Remote Desktop Server running
Server 2008 R2 with Outlook in Online mode an error is produced when trying to
do the same. The contact list is shown, but when the code tries to retrieve the
displayed record there is the following error:<o:p></o:p>

It looks like Outlook is not initializing shared folders when it starts.
I confirmed this using the following code for the Outlook startup event:

With this in place I do not need to go to People and click the shared folder, and the third party app has no problems retrieving.
The third party app starts Outlook itself if it is not already running. In this scenario no events fire.
So the question is: Is there a means of executing this code when the third party app starts Outlook?

Smart Folder "Mailbox '***' not found"

I upgraded to Leopard on my MacBook Pro and my iMac; mail on the MBP now has three Smart folders that I can not not remove. Each time I open mail it adds another "Mailbox '[mailbox name]' not found"
1st open = "Mailbox '[mailbox name]' not found"
2nd open = "Mailbox "Mailbox '[mailbox name]' not found" not found"
etc....
I can rename them but it just start over.
How can I remove these?

I have the same problem. Were you able to delete the problem mailboxes from the VersionedSmartMailboxes.plist or did you have to delete the file? The only way I can see to fix the problem is to delete the SmartMailboxes.plist but then all my Smart Mailboxes are gone.

Smart Folder not showing files

Hi guys, i'm trying to save a search on folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/, but the smart folder is not showing the files even when i'm looking at those files, can any one tell me what am i doing wrong?

I have bad news for you. There appears to be a problem with the [Contains Attachments] condition in smart mailboxes. For smart mailbox purposes, Mail does’t realize a message contains attachments until you view its contents. I don’t think there is anything you can do about it other than reporting the problem here:

Smart folder not showing all mails

I have a smart folder with these criteria:
1. Any Recipent contains "name"
2. Subject contains "film"
3. Contains attachments
All conditions must match.
And Include messages from sent is active.
The problem:
I discovered that a lot of mails that I had sent was missing.
When I opened the sent folder I could see the mails missing.
If I click on one of those mails it imediately shows up in the smart folder.
I tried to select all but that didnt help.
So I have to click manually on every mail that I send in the sent folder to get them in the smart folder. Not so smart?
I tried to delete the "Envelope Index" file and rebuild it. But it didnt help.
Any suggestions?

Smart folder not searching external HDD connected to Airport Extreme

I have bunch of movie files (mp4 format) on external HDD connected to the new Airport Extreme station. When I create a smart folder on either one of the machines on my local network, the smart folder would not search at all through the HDD connected to the Airport Extreme.
I have another HDD connected directly to my PowerMacG5Quad and smart folders successfuly searches through that drive.
However, when I ask for any type of search (i.e. any kind of files) located on a networked external HDD, smart folders acts is if the networked drive is not even there.
Obviously, my purpose here is to have the difference machines access (RSS style) all the movies files located on the networked HDD.
Is it some permission in Airport Extreme?

Smart folder broken

I have a problem with smart folders, or "saved searches" : I can't edit them anymore.
Worst, when clicking "show search criteria", nothing is displayed and the smart folder definition is destroyed ! Without any warning !

This is just a "me too", "show search criteria" does not show the criteria it erases it instead. Otherwise the original saved search appears to be OK, if left alone.
Inspecting the saved search in '~/Library/Saved Searches' with TextEdit before and after a "show search criteria" does confirm that the search data is lost.

Smart Folder is Defaulting

Is there any way to get a smart folder to not forget the sizing of the columns or the sizing of the window I left it at?
I've created a smart folder to find all items in my home directory that are folders and labelled green. Every time I open up the smart folder the window with the items is shown with the "default" window setting and the "default" sizing for the view grid.

There does not seem to be - unless there is some command line way to do it.
But what you can do is create a folder that you will use for viewing your smart folder results - set the view options on that folder as you want them - THEN click the smart folder - and the search results will be displayed using the view options of the folder as they were configured BEFORE you selected the smart folder.

Copy files to Smart Folder

I have created a Smart Folder but cannot drag/drop files to that Smart Folder.
What am I doing wrong?

A Smart Folder is not a place, it's a list. It's the answer to question. For instance: What files were modified yesterday? Or what files have a 'work' comment in the Spotlight Comments? To get a file listed in a Smart Folder make sure it fits the answer to the question...

Adobe Bridge CC Smart Collections are not displaying all images in the folder

I'm having an issue with Bridge CC were I setup a smart collection to monitor my new photos. The folder contains over 300 photos, but is only displaying 160. The only condition I set is to have a minium file size of 10kb, so it should bring in all files since most are over 4mb. At first I thought it was a problem with the files themselves (permissions or something) but if I open the folder in bridge it easily displays all of the images easily. Any ideas?

You might want to describe this workflow a bit more. Do you create this from an existing folder or are you adding new photo's?
A Smart Collection does not refreshes it self automatically. You either have to use the edit icon top right of the content panel to save again or deselect and select the collection itself to let it refresh the content.

How to get a build definition with Online TFS and a shared drop folder

Hi,
We VSTS Premium license. We use online TFS as source control.
I want to make a build definition. Use Team Explorer for the same.
I get error message when I enter a shared path as my build drop location.
Please find below the image showing the difference. Radio box highlighted in Red does not work and Green does. I want to use the shared drop folder option.
Exception Message: TF270016: An error occurred publishing log files from '' to ''. Details: The network path was not found.
I found this message in lots of posts and have tried the following -
1) Everyone has full access to the folder.
2) 'NETWORK SERVICE' also has full access.
But the above didn't work.
Looks like this is a known one. Can you please suggest a solution?

Yes, Chaminda is right, Hosted Build Controller not support the UNC path. You can install On-premise Build Server for your VSO Account if you want copy build output to UNC drop location. Or we suggest you select Copy build output to Source Control folder
or Copy to server when you’re using Host Build Controller.

Mac Smart Folder not working for Images received o...

Hi Guys,
Im a project manager and uses Skype alot. For my ease Im using Mac Smart folder option to place all the filese I received in the selective folder.
Solution :
1. I created a Smart Folder
2. In Smart folder I place a filter "Where From"
3. In "Where From" I use the sender Skype ID
4. I put auto recieve file on skype this is convinent as I don't have to click on every file seprately
Issue :
Images recieved through Skype aren't providing all data like "Senders SkypeID" in More Info>Where From field. Getting this data for all other documents and audio files.
Key Finding :
Im using this method for the last one year but haven't got this issue in past. But recently my images aren't filter properly.
a. When I check the info of documet file. It shows me the sender name in "Where from" field - Thats perfect. (File>Get Info>Where From)
b. When I check the info of an iamge file. It doesn't show the sender username.
Please assist me on this issue as this impacting my overall project effeciency.
Note : The issue happened recently.

hi there,
that error message sounds like you placed a shared folder within a parent folder that is not shared. It also can help to boot into Recovery Mode (pressing Command and R simultanously when hearing the startup tune), launch Disk Utility, select the disk containing your OSX installation (usually named Macintosh HD) and choose Verify Disk Permissions. Should any problems be reported select Repair Disk Permissions. Once that is finished, reboot normally.
Though unlikely, it might have happened during all the folder removing and readding that some Permissions are out of sync. So checking these Permissions is merely a precaution
Once you are back in "normal" OSX using your admin account, try this:
Open Terminal from the Utilites folder
enter the following commands one line at a time:
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Movies
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Mom
chown -R <placeholder> /Users/Shared/Family
chmod -R 755 /Users/Shared/Family
Be sure to replace <placeholder> with your account's short name (no brackets!)
Now open System Preferences and select Sharing
Select File Sharing from the left pane
Click on the little plus and add /Users/Shared/Family to your shares (The subfolders are automatically included)
in the right most pane check the access privileges. They are set, so that you can read and write to those folders, while everyone else can only read. If you want everybody to have read and write privileges, use 777 instead of 755 within the terminal last command.
Now the other computers should be able to see and use the shared folder you just created.
If you create individual user accounts on your machine for every family member you want to access the shared folders, you can choose far more sophisticated levels of access privileges.

Smart folder 'ANY' criteria does not work

I don't need to use this very often, but have just tried to and it simply does not work.
For example, I have many emails containing the word 'cat' and many others containing the work 'dog'. If I create a smart folder searching the entire messages for 'cat' I get say 100 results - similarly for 'dog'.
If I create a smart folder with 2 criteria ... (1)entire message 'dog' and (2) entire message 'cat', and set the selector to be 'ANY' rather than 'ALL', then I get no results whatsoever, whilst I should expect to get all 'dog' and all'cat' results.
Am I misunderstanding that ANY is a logical OR and ALL is a logical AND?
Any tips/clarification would be very helpful!

We did not see any validation errors when we deployed, so I'm assuming these values were passed correctly through EPMA.
Please let me know if I can check in any other way.
About the evaluation order, I do not see that in the Planning, or System properties of the Smart list or the Dimension members in the shared library.
Can you tell me where I can find this property?
