  • Shared mailbox contacts to Address Book

    Hi all
We have recently migrated to an Exchange 2010 environment, our clients using Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2010.
We have a large number of shared mailboxes within our organisation that contain their own contacts lists. The shared mailbox is added as as additional mailbox to the users' own profile as they have been delegated full access to manage
    and maintain all items.
The issue we are having is trying to get the contacts list on the shared mailbox to show up in the users address book when sending an email.
I have had a search on the net for an answer to this and the only thing I can get to work to is creating a new profile for the shared mailbox and renaming the contacts as discussed in the following thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/62befbae-ceaa-482b-b450-e448f8d1a265
The issue with this however is that it only seems to temporarily work - after closing the profile for the shared mailbox and opening the user profile it will only appear in the address book for the first time; after closing and reopening Outlook
the contacts list for the shared mailbox disappears.
Even if we did get this method to work every time, it seems a little long winded. Some shared mailboxes are used by about 10 different users and having to get them to create a new profile for the shared mailbox seems a little full on just to get
the contacts list to show up in their address book.
Other threads on the net have suggested just going into the properties of the Contact item on the shared mailbox and ticking the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". The issue I am having is that the there is no such tick box. In fact the
"Outlook Address Book" tab isn't even there. The users' have been given full control of the contacts as they are able to create/modify/delete contacts when they actually select the contact objects from the shared mailbox.
We have just moved from an Oracle mail environment where this was possible and so would like to know if sharing contacts is a supported feature of Exchange 2010/Outlook. If so, how?
    Cheers
    Brady

    hi,
    Outlook 2007, Exchange 2007, Win 7
i have followed all the solutions that given below but none seem to work. all i want is to show the shared mailbox contacts in my addressbook.
I do not want to login to windows using shared mailbox credentials to access contacts.
i dont no want to copy the or export contacts over.
i have full access to the mailbox. when i click New to send a new email. under my address book. I can see my contacts and i would love to see my shared email inbox contacts too. Till now i have come across multiple solutions and not even one seems to work. let
me see if someone is that smart who can give a solution that works.
I have also added shared mailbox profile in my outlook and i have given full access as the Author to the contacts folder of the shared mailbox. some say it cant be done. I am pretty sure it can be.

  • Problems sync'ing some information between Address Book and iPod (5th)

    Please give me some cues...
I sync my ipod address book (with iTunes and Address Book) but not every contact get sync'ed! Sometimes I change a contact picture or add a phone number and the updated version doesn't seem to show up on my ipod... It happens with several contacts on different occasions... Even if i delete those contact and create new ones from scratch.
Also, when I add a second phone number and set this number as "Home" (like for a Summer house), this number replace the first (home) number on my iPod. When I set this new number to be "Other", it just doesn't show up on my iPod. The only way I can make it visible on my iPod is to set it as "Work" (if I don't have a phone number set up as "Work" for that contact already). Pretty annoying...
Finally, some phone number are set up as xxx-xxx-xxxx (my default address format in AB) and some shows up as (xxx) xxx-xxxx even if everything looks fine in AB (phone numbers' label, contact's picture, address format...)
    clueless...
maybe isync (or hotsync) has something to do with it (since I had a Palm w/Palm Desktop and HotSync before...)

  • Sync contacts between Address Book and Gmail

    Hi,
I am one of those Android mobile users who wants to sync his contacts with his Mac's address book. Going to Address Book > Preferences > Accounts > sync with Google, has proven ineffective. Not only does it not sync (I have tested making changes in Gmail and checking if changes are reflected in Address Book, and viceversa) but it also creates duplicates every time it syncs.
I would highly appreciate any recommendation on how to proceed. It seems like other users have had similar problems. I am running OSX 10.6.8 on my Mac and Android 4.2.1 on my mobile device.
    Thanks to everyone.
    Best,
    Marcos.

  • Lost some contacts in address book and iphone

i received a phone call on my iphone and noticed there was no name attached to the number. i looked on my phone and right before my eyes the names that were attached to my favorites turned to numbers. i checked my contacts and my list of about 100 was now down to eight. I check my address book on my mac and it was down to eight as well. I don't know what I am looking for in my time machine back up. my old time machine died in december so I only have a month of backups. I look at the oldest backup of the metadata folder and it shows 8 files. i know i had my contacts after my last iphone sync yesterday but i don't know what happened today...someone please help.

The is an option in iTunes preferences to alert you if more that X% of your data will be modified on your computer. I would suggest activating that.
There is no way to recover the lost data that I know of.

Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.
    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • IPhone syncs only SOME of my Address Book contacts...?

    Hi guys,
Just realized I'm having a bit of a syncing issue... For some reason my iPhone is not including all of my contacts from Address Book. I have a total of 63 Address Book contacts, but my iPhone is only at 53!? If I add a new contact in my iPhone, it will carry over to Address Book, but it doesn't seem to be adding a few contacts from my list... Any ideas? I can't find any similarities between the missing contacts either. Oh, and I'm on the most current iPhone version as well.
Thanks in advance for any input! I'm stumped!

Try resetting the sync history on your Mac.
Applications > iSync > iSync Preferences > Reset Sync History
After resetting the sync history, restart your Mac and then try syncing again

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • How can I delete all my contacts in Address Book?

I had syncing issues between my Entourage 2008 contacts, my Address Book contacts, and the PowerMac for Blackberry application. As a reference, I have around 5,000 contacts. I have solved the issue, but there is some collateral damage: read on.
Address Book duplicated my contacts two or three times, and it also created around 60,000 empty contacts. I have been able to clean the Entourage contacts, which only suffered from duplication but not from new empty entries.
I tried to delete the Address Book duplicate and empty entries. The easy way out, I thought, was to Select All and delete. It does not work. Given I have ended with around 80,000 contacts, after I Select All, and try to delete, the program hangs, and I have to Force Quit the Address Book application.
I tried to locate the Address Book file where contacts are stored, but I have not found an obvious name that would point to it, nor have I read anything about such file in the different discussion forums. So no success on this.
I have even used scripts in the past for deleting duplicates and merging contacts in Entourage, but I have not found one for Address Book that could take care of the massive number of empty entries with "No Name".
So, is there a way to delete all my contacts in Address Book?

There are two possibilities you can try:
    1. Delete all your duplicate entries. You can try downloading and running this Applescript Remove Duplicates, which will create a group named Duplicates in Address Book, from which you should be able to delete those entries, by selecting the Group, then in the next column to the Right, select all the entries and choose Delete Cards from the Edit menu.
    2. If that doesn't work, you can do this:
    1. Quit Address Book if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook and delete an of these files/folders you find there:
    • ABPerson.skIndex
    • ABPerson.skIndexInverted
    • Address Book - xxxxx.abbu
    • AddressBook.data
    • AddressBook.data.beforesave
    • AddressBook.data.previous
    • Images
    • LastImport.plist
    3. Restart Address Book and see if the default cards are there (Apple card, and your Me card) and if all seems to be working correctly.

  • Public Folders with Contacts vs Address Book

Which is the better approach: public folders with contacts or setting up an address book?
I want to set up some sort of address book to hold details of some of our major clients. Rather than each person maintaining his/her own address list the plan is for everyone to maintain a single list. As soon as we deal with a "new" contact at
one of our clients that person's details go into the central list and we all benefit.
In the past we've used public folders. However, it seems to me that they are quite a hassle with OWA so i was wondering why we don't simply create a new address book with:
New-AddressList -Name "MyCo – Customers" -RecipientFilter "(CustomAttribute1 -eq 'MyCo') -and (ObjectClass -eq 'Group')" -RecipientContainer "ad.ilbs.co/Habitats/myco"
    or should I use New-OfflineAddressBook -Name ...
Our team run a variety of systems (Windows and Mac) and a variety of phones (mostly IOS and Android)
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
According to your description, you want to share the contact which is created by each client users in OWA and Outlook to all other domain users for contact sharing. Is it right?
If that is the case, the Public Folder is an option to achieve this as you mentioned. For address list in server side, only the administrators who have related permission to Exchange server can create an address list in Exchange server generally.
For client users, they can’t create the address list for all other users using, though the contact folder permission is set to reviewer for all other users.
If you are using Public Folder contact (default folder permission set to Author), each user can create contacts in this folder and the contact can be visible for all users. Then the client user can do the following settings in Outlook to
manually add the Public Contact to address book:
    1. In Outlook, open Public Folder.
    2. Right-click Public Contact folder, select Properties.
    3. In Outlook Address Book tab, check Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book.
    4. Click OK to save the setting.
Then the Public Contact folder should be added in the Address Book.

  • Problems syncing from contacts to address book

I have an iMac which now runs OSX 10.6.8 and an iPhone 3GS that runs the latest iOS 5.
Long story short, I downgraded from OSX Lion back to OSX 10.6.8 a few months ago.  Got quite a few problems doing so...  ended up creating a brand new user and transferring music, videos and photos manually.  Then, the iOS 5 got out and I upgraded my phone right away.  I couldn't figure out icloud at first but understood yesterday that it works only with Lion.  I thought I'd keep it on my phone if I ever want to install Lion again.
I also realised that I never transfered back in my iMac all my iCal events and Contacts.
So yesterday, I tryied to sync my Contacts, iCal and Notes from my iPhone to my iMac.  In the iTune info tab, under each section, there was a message mentioning that since I use iCloud, I don't need to sync my info through iTune and doing so would possibly create duplicates.  I try to sync them anyway since I only had to in Address Book.  I got the message to merge or replace.  I selected merge (yes I had at least one contact in Address Book).  Nothing happened...  iCal didn't merge anything and neither Address Book.  I tried to create new events in my phone and iMac and these were syncing but not the original ones.  Also added a contact in Address Book and it got sync with my phone.  I didn't try creating one on the phone to sync it through but assumed that it was working.
After going through a few discussion threads, I decided to delete the iCloud account on my phone since I didn't need it and try re-syncing.  The iCloud message in the iTune's info tab was gone so I thought everything would be good and I could select merge my contact again without any problem.  I was wrong...  I lost all my contacts...  I freeeeeeeeaked out !!  Thank God I didn't unplug the phone and restored it right away to get everything back.
I tried it again this afternoon but only tried to sync iCal.  I didn't get to choose between merge and replace and the same thing happened again...  lost everything...  iCal but also Contacts which I find strange because I didn't check the Contact option in iTune....   I got everything restored back even thought it's always scary to try things like this....  So for now on, I don't delete my iCloud info on my Phone and do not sync any other info.  I'm actually scared to plug it in and always double check that my contacts are all there before unplugging.
So here I am...  don't really know what to do...  I read stuff about removing apple.isync files or something...  or other options but they never quite answer my problem...
There is still the option to type all my contacts back in Address Book..  I don't have that many... but it's a pain...
Sorry about the long message here
Thanks for your help and for your time.
    Ben

Clearly iSync has got confused about what new data it needs to pull from the phone. Usually resetting the sync history solves this, but as it hasn't for you... try this:
I would suggest sending all the contacts from the phone to the Mac manually via Bluetooth: *Contacts > Options > More > Advanced > Send all Contacts > Via Bluetooth* (or similar, depending on the exact phone model)
This will send vCard(s) which can be imported into the Mac Address Book simply by double-clicking the file that arrives on your Mac.
Merge or remove any duplicates as they are imported. You can also use the *Card > Look for Duplicates* command in Address Book.
Once all your Contacts are exactly as you want them in Address Book do a full backup of them:
*File > Export > Address Book archive...*
Finally, load iSync, click your phones icon and choose *Reset Device...* from the Devices menu.
This will force iSync to remove all the existing contacts from the phone and completely replace them with all the new nicely sorted out ones from the Mac Address Book.
From this point on, iSync should keep track of what needs updating on each subsequent sync.

  • Synch new contacts from Address Book no longer works.

My iphone will no longer synch new contacts in my Address Book on my Mac. It was working fine and then I loaded too much audio content and ran out of memory so I think it could not synch properly without memory available.  I've since deleted all my audio and have plenty of space yet new contacts in Address Book do not show up on my iPhone even though the synch process appears to complete. Any ideas?

I hope you are doing this over wifi, if you are not then you may have exceeded your monthly data limit, but I doubt that's the problem. All I can say is that Address Book will be getting refurbished soon, and according to Apple, it will be far more simple to transfer data between iOS and Macs.

  • IPhone 3G doesn't pick up all the contacts in Address Book

I just laboriously entered a bunch of new contacts in Address Book. When I sync to iPhone with iTunes (7.7), most of them show up as expected. But about 30% of them are just not there. No entry at all on the phone, but I can still see them plain as day in Address Book. I tried setting the "Replace information on this iPhone" "Contacts" check box in iTunes and re-synching, with the same effect. From Address Book, I don't see anything particularly in common between the missing names (they mostly have both a phone number and an email just like the many contacts that made it OK). Any ideas?

Huh, well I just poked around in Address Book (on the Mac) for a while, and it (then) became convinced that it was time for a save. So I did (File->Save) And then the synch found the rest. So odd, though. I know that one of the contacts missing was the first one I entered! Between this and very funky behavior after importing vCard files from google (which was so bad I had to wipe the whole thing out), I can't say I'm so impressed with Address Book.

  • IPhone not syncing Contacts to Address Book

I noticed that my iPhone (both original iPhone and iPhone 3G) was not syncing contacts with Address Book. I tried to Reset Sync History in iSync, and when I have tried to replace the contacts on iPhone under the Advanced options, I lose all my contacts on the iPhone!
The only way to get some contacts back is restoring from backup, but unfortunately as iTunes performs a backup of the iPhone on sync, these backups also have no contacts! I have an old backup that fortunately has not been overwritten but the contact list is a bit out of date.
Address Book on the Mac seems to be fine and this is backed up.
It would appear that iTunes has somehow lost its "connection" to Address Book, which is why when I chose to replace the Contacts on the iPhone with the information on the computer I lost them all!
iCal still seems to sync fine with Calendar.
Can I re-link Address Book with iTunes?

    Jason L wrote:
    Hey lim_my,
Are contacts syncing with MobileMe or any other applications?
    I don't have MobileMe.
Now you mention it, Address Book did not appear to even update if I updated a contact in Mail.
Can you sync contacts in another User account? to create another user account goto System Preferences> Accounts> click the lock to make changes> click the + button to add another user account.
Yes I can! I only tried to sync Contacts, leaving all other options i.e Calendars Bookmarks Ringtones Music Videos Applications untouched, and now I have some test Contacts on the iPhone.
You can try Resetting the SyncServices folder, Just follow the steps in this article to stop the service and then delete the SyncServices folder in your user library.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I had tried this before, within iSync, which did not work. I then tried the command in Terminal as per the above link, then went and deleted the /user/Library/ Sync Services folder. Still no joy.
So it looks as though I have a broken Address Book rather than iTunes. Should I post this in the OS X Leopard section of Discussions?

  • Can I add my AOL contacts to Address Book?

Need some help getting AOL contacts into Address book, even or Mail for that matter.
    Thanks

You can not add MSN Buddies to the AIm Buddy List.
You can however create a Jabber ID and then with a Third Party App link to what is called a Transport that will connect you to the MSN Service for Text Only chats.
Read the first two links in this section
    http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_jabber
The third link is the most up-to-date List of Jabber Servers with Transports I have found.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my link to my website.
