Sharing tags from existing library to re-burned music

I am reburning all my CDs as AIFF files for use in Sonos sound system. I have an existing set of .m4a files from the first time I burned everything. 2 things I am not smart enough to know how to do: I would like an automated method to make all the metadata tags on the new burns match my old, hand-edited tags on the .m4a files. Also, I would like to "divide up" my existing library into 2 pieces so that my .m4a and .aif files are completely separated. Basically just 'cuz it drives me crazy to look at all the doubled titles...
Any thanks with either would be appreciated!

am reburning all my CDs as AIFF
Do you mean reRIPping? RIP is to get files off an audio CD. Burn means to create an audio CD as in Burn with the laser.
I would like to "divide up" my existing library into 2 pieces so that my .m4a and .aif files are completely separated.
I suggest you create new library only for the AIFF files. Hold the Option key and launch iTunes then select *Create library*.
Select somewhere and name it *iTunes AIFF library* (or something) then use that to RIP the CDs to AIFF.

  • Transferring music from existing library (Play List) to my iPhone 4

I would like to transfer music from my iPod shuffle and Nano library to my iPhone. Can someone assist me with this issue?

Under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, you select Sync Music.
Your options are all songs and playlists, or selected playlists. If you choose all songs and playlists, select Sync to transfer all songs and available playlists in iTunes to your iPhone.
If you don't want all music that is available in your iTunes library transferred to your iPhone, choose selected playlists.
Create a playlist with iTunes on your Mac.
At the bottom of the iTunes source list, select the + button to create a playlist. Or at the iTunes menu bar, go to File and select New Playlist. Or you can select various songs in your iTunes library and after all songs are selected that you want to create an iTunes playlist for, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select New Playlist from Selection.
Enter a name for the playlist. If you don't use the New Playlist from Selection option, select the songs in your iTunes library that you want available in the playlist and drag the songs to the playlist.
After you have the music in the playlist that you want transferred to your iPhone, select the playlist in the window below selected playlists under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.
You can create a number of playlists in iTunes for selected music.

  • Because of a PC problem I have lost all my music from iTunes Library.  All my music is still on my Nano (1st generation).  How can I safely transfer my music into my library, I don't want to risk losing it.

Because of a PC problem, I have lost the entire contents of my iTunes Library.  I still have all my music on my Nano (1st generation).  Is there a way of safely transferring my music from my Nano into iTunes Library.  I would hate to lose it all.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is based on you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Tags from other tag output

    Hello.
I'm currently outputting tags from a TagSupport extended class.. (doing database checks, then outputting the results and using tags)
The tags i output don"t get evaluated and i see them in the html source.
How can i make the container evaluate the output again?
    Thanks a lot.

i dont think you canIn fact, I think the only way you can have one tag use
another tag is in JSP 2.0 with the first tag written
as a tag file (for example /WEB-INF/tags/mytag.tag).
This tag file (like a JSP file) can specify the
location of other tag libraries, and then use tags
from that library. This feature (along with the
built-in expression language) are probably (for me)
the two best things about JSP 2.0
    Geoff RimmerThanks.
Unfortunatly, i need the opposite. I'm doing a pseudo tabbedpane based on DB entries, and use a tag for representing buttons.
I find it amazing that you can't interpret recursively the result of a tag class...
Maybe i'm simply doing it wrong...

  • HT5517 My AppleTv only allows me to play purchased music from iTunes.  I have an extensive library that I burned from CD's.  How do I play this?  Thanks

My AppleTV only allows me to play purchased music from iTunes.  I have an extensive library that I burned from CD's that I am pulling my hair out to figure out how to play them.  Is this possible?  If so, how?  Thanks

Your music library needs to be in iTunes on a Mac or PC. In iTunes enable Home Sharing and you should see your music library and playlists on the Apple TV. Both the computer and ATV have to be on the same WiFi network.
See the following page on Home Sharing.

  • TS1436 I just installed itunes 11 on my new computer.  I hooked up my ipod and created a new playlist from my library.  I wanted to burn the playlist to a cd but after I insert the CD, there is no "burn to cd"option. It's not under "file". please help!!!

I installed Itune 11 on my new Dell Inspiron, windows 7, computer.
I wanted to burn a cd from a new playlist I created in my library.  The "burn to CD" option does not come up anywhere?  It's not under "File" and the "tool"at the bottom of the page does not have an option for "burn to cd."
I've made many cds in the past off of OTHER playlists so I'm not sure why it's do difficult now?  What am I doing wrong?
A huge issue to begin with was the songs that Icloud recognized on in my library when I first installed the Itunes 11.  I since was able to "hide"all the old songs but that didn't help my "burning to cd" issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, I"m spending way too much time trying to figure this out.
    Thank you!!

    Good lord.
I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you have a 32-bit Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you have a 64-bit Windows, open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Is "Burn Playlist to Disc" showing up in the contextual menu now?

  • Upgrade from iPhoto '06: What precisely does it do to my existing library?

    Hi everyone,
Considering iPhoto '08, one question that comes to mind is what an upgrade would do to the original library, how it would change it. In particular, now that iPhoto '08 is non-destructive, it means there is only one original and zero [through editing created] copies of my pictures. Same applies to RAW. Before there would be a RAW file and a JPEG if I edited that RAW file. Now, when we're non-destructive there would always be the original file and just a set of instructions that translate into an edited photo during the preview/slideshow time, right?
This leads to my final question. My iPhoto library now contains both the originals and the edited/touched up copies. What happens to this library once it is transferred/upgraded to the new version?
    Thanks,
    Roman

    Roman1
I think it does address your questions:
What it doesn't address is what happens to the existing library,
    from the doc:
However, for photos imported to earlier versions and edited either in iPhoto or in a separate application such as Photoshop, nondestructive editing does not apply. To use nondestructive editing on these photos, you must undo all the edits to date by doing one of the following:
    Reverting to the original photo
Reimporting the originals from outside iPhoto
Nondestructive editing also does not apply to photos imported to iPhoto ’08 but edited in a separate application.
Also, there is still a Modified Folder. When you edit a pic a modified copy is created. The difference is that when you re-edit a pic the app goes back and applies both edits to the original and saves a new modified version, hence there's no generational loss.
Also, this non-destructive editing leaves one drawback. When using iPhoto '06 I could take my library (which resides on an external drive) and view the photos (Roll=Folder) on any PC/Linux computer.
Well the NDE is not going to be a problem as I describe above. What is going to be one is that v7 turns the iPhoto Library Folder into the iPhoto Package File - a UNIX style pkg file.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
And, of course, that depends further on whether the other systems can parse the Alias.
    Regards
    TD

When I sync my iPad to download new pictures to my library, my existing library gets deleted. How can I stop this from happening?

The way I sync mine is to have an 'master' folder on my computer, and underneath it I have separate folders for the photos that I want to sync to the iPad - I then select the master folder in iTunes and the folders underneath it are synced to the iPad, each getting their own album.
There is some info on syncing folders on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
