Sharing tiff from Mac to PC, doable?

Hi All,
I'm working with a new client, he is on Mac and I'm on Windows 7. Both using CS5. My client is short film director creating content for his documentary, and I'm doing the film editing. Our first meeting he brought over a USB drive full of tiff files created on Mac, I could not open any of it. Error was cant open because its wrong file or corrupted.
Just wondering if anyone knows;
1) can we actualy share tiffs from Mac to PC?
2) and if so what are we not doing correctly to make it work?
Thanks,
Donnie

Thanks all.
Marian -The error message is: Could not complete your request because its not the right kind of document.
But yesterday while his drive was connected the error also included that file might be corrupt - which they werent.
Yes, it applied to all tiff's on his USB drive, but I could see all his files and open .jpgs on that drive. I'll assume it was NTFS.
c.pfaffenbichler - We did both, tried to open from his drive, and I copied it to my desktop - culdnt open either way.
Could he have named them tiff when they were some other filte type - any thing could be possible, although this is his third film in 2011 and he has worked using tiff's on all other projects, he also does graphic work, so I'm sort of assuming he wouldnt have made that mistake on hundreds if files on his drive, but I'll ask. I'll also ask him to check the Byte Order.
Any other ideas?

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

  • Print to Windows Shared Printer from Mac on wireless network

My set up is: HP Deskjet 1050 410 USB to a WIndows 7 PC. The PC has 4 users, each password protected for login and  public (not protected) folders. The Macbook is running OS X 10/6/8. I have downloaded the latest HP drivers.
I found the printer on the workgroup network and installed it as the only printer on the Macbook. When I send a job to print, I am prompted to either login as a guest or as a user with a password. Either way, I get an eror message "On Hold (Authentication required)" Under Job Info is the following message "NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER"
THis is an improvement over what was happening before when I could not find the printer in the list and had to manually use the IP address. Even then, I could not print, I would get a communication error.
The first time I installed the printer driver (an earlier driver and earlier release of OS X 10.6) I had no problems printing from the Macbook. It found the printer and printed without any password authentication. Nothing has changed on the PC, the printer is shared with all users on the network, but I can't seem to print.
I noticed many postings with similar issues but I did not see any resolution. Help! (Thanks!)

hey just want to say thanks to you guys... I just this week switched to Mac after 14 years of heavy PC use. Mac's been awesome except for that I couldn't print to my PC based printer... now I can... and I couldn't of done it with out this apple discussion thread about HPIJS.

  • Trouble with Home Sharing/Airplay from Mac

I am having an issue trying to access my computer through 2nd gen Apple TV. The software on the device is up to date. I am running OS X Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro with up to date iTunes. I am trying to watch a video in my iTunes library but it will not let me access my computer with home sharing. I have made sure that both devices have home sharing turned on and using the correct account. I am also unable to access my iTunes library with my iPad or iPhone. I have done this successfully in the past so I'm not sure what is causing this. Oh, it also wont let me airplay from iTunes on my Mac to the apple tv.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Same here. iPhone, Mac Mini and Apple TV3 are all up to date. Logged in and out on each device and home sharing and airplay still don't work at all. Nothing shows up in the remote app. They're all on the same network and have been. The only thing I can think of is the most recent ATV firmware update, but why would my phone be unable to see my computer??
    Any secret commands to try?

  • Sharing Scanner from Mac Os X Lion to Windows

Is there a way to share a Scanner from my Mac OS X Lion Server to a Windows 7 PC?
I know that there's no official support to do this, but perhaps someone in the forums have done it already with some third-party software.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Insert the disc in the drive and reboot. After the chime hold down the Option key for a one time boot menu. If after that screen comes up you don't see the Superdrive and or Snow Leopard DVD as a boot option then the SD is bad and need to be replaced. You could then go to another Mac and create a USB install thumb drive of Snow Leopard and use that to do the reinstall.
But you do not have to repost this same question over and over again in different threads.

  • Sharing music from Mac library to PC-synced iPod

    Hi,
I would like to share some music in iTunes library on my MacBook with my sister. Is there a way to transfer directly to her iPod (which she syncs to her library on her PC)? We just want to transfer some songs, not sync the entire library or wipe out what she already has there.
This is probably a lame question be we're not so savvy about these things.
    Thanks.

    eleve
Unfortunately you cannot sync directly to a device without connecting it to a computer, as you have stated connecting the iPod to a different computer will erase all data. I would suggest Home Sharing, share only the music you want.
    Hope this helps,
    Ryan

  • Sharing music from mac mini 2006 to iPad 4

Hoe can I transfer my music in iTunes on my mac mini 2006 onto my iPad 4?

The traditional way is to plug the iPad in to your Mac, run iTunes, and 'sync' the iPad to iTunes. An alternative method would be to use iCloud and iTunes Match and then the iPad can automatically receive music via the iCloud.
Note: In order to work with the iPad 4 you need to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later (Snow Leopard). It is probably this you should have been asking about in your message. Your Mac mini model should be able to run Snow Leopard and apparently if you ring the Apple webstore and ask nicely they will sell you a copy even though it is officially discontinued.
Note: iCloud require Mac OS X 10.7 or later (Lion) and I don't believe your Mac mini is new enough to run Lion.

  • Remove obsolete shared drives from mac mavericks.

I took a few goes to find an external HD that would work with my mac (for some reason the first couple of wireless drives didn't work).  Now I have several listed on my finder and I can't work out how to get rid of them.  All I have managed to find is how to hide them, but I want to get rid of them altogether.
    Thanks in advance!
    Elaine

For anyone who comes across this in the future:
I ended up using a piece of sofware called HamachiX. It creates what could best be described as a Virtual VPN (I know, I know). Install on both machines, create your network name and (if you've done it right) the machines will act as if they were on the same network.
This had been a great solution until I upgraded to Lion, which no longer supports PPC apps.

I run a test print and its seamless. I reboot the Mini1 and run test print again and its good.
Now in Mini2 I did the same installation on shared printer but it is asking for user credential again and again, there is a check mark in "remember in keychain but still gives a notice that "requires authentication" I put the admin creadentials same with Mini1 then it prints.
every time I print on Mini2 its always asking for a user & password before Printing. How can we fix it.
    I tried
    - lpd printing = "authentication required"
    - reset printer settings ang re-install printer = "authentication required"
    - replace sharename in windows7, reinstall printer in Mini2 = "authentication required"
This stuff never happened to Mini1.

  • I can't see shared printers from a Mac with Leopard

Hi there we got a new MacPro that came with Leopard but when I want to add the printers shared by two old Macs it can't see them, it only find and HP Color LaserJet 2600n that was shared on a Mac Book. The other Macs has OSX 10.3.9 (a G5) and 10.3 (a G4), one share a HP LaserJet 1200 and the other an Epson Inkjet Printer. We also have a MacPro (a core 2 duo) with OSX 10.4 that can find all the printers.
I was wondering if the version of the old Macs has something to do with my problem, maybe the Leopard can't reach them or something like that.
    Thanks
    PERCY

Have a look at this article from Apple
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306984
It covers the issues with Leopard seeing printers shared by 10.3.

  • Problem sharing photos from multiple accounts on one Mac

I am trying to share two different iPhoto libraries from two different User Accounts on the same Mac. In each account I have iPhoto Sharing 'Look for shared photos' and 'Share my photos' checked. I also have the Firewall on with port 8770 enabled.
    1. From a Powerbook I can only connect to one library. Once I pick that first library the second library will not load at all. I have to quick and restart iPhoto in order to select the second library. -- I fixed this by turning off my Firewall. With the Firewall off I can switch between the libraries at will. My question, what ports should I enable besides 8770 to allow multiple instances of iPhoto to run? (Just like you need multiple ports to have the ATV connect to multiple instances of iTunes.)
    2. When I am configured as above, my two iPhoto applications do not see each other. They can both see and connect to the Powerbook. And the Powerbook can see each running instance. But neither iPhoto instance on the same Mac can see the other. This is new with iPhoto '08. I was able to do this with iPhoto '06.
    Thank you

    HI Darien,
Here are all the links I have for the different kinds of sharing:
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • File sharing from Mac to PC

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me with this issue.
For the life of me, I cannot share movies stored on my iMac with any other device except my Apple TV.
I currently have most of my movie library archived in iTunes (90+ movies) that I converted to .mp4 or .mv4 using Handbrake. All of the movies are available on my AppleTV. I have three networked PCs, one ethernet, two wireless. I have enabled file sharing to all computers. I have installed iTunes on the wired PC as well as one wireless PC. I can share my iTunes music (but no video) between the iMac and PCs.
All three PCs are Windows XP SP2 machines. I can navigate to the movie folder located on the Mac on any computer. I cannot open any movie file. I can open and access shared PDFs, spreadsheets, word documents, pretty much anything I have access to EXCEPT the movies.
I CAN copy the movie from the host Mac to any PC with no issues. Then, Quicktime will play the movie. But, no matter what I try, I cannot stream the movies to any other device, except the Apple TV. (There are no movies stored on the Apple TV. I have a Time Capsule managing a wireless network that streams movies with only a few seconds delay.) I could see there being a time lag streaming a movie to a laptop with 500mb RAM and a G wireless connection, but the wired PC is connected with ethernet. It WILL allow me to copy a 2Gb movie from the iMAC to the PC in less than three minutes.
I initially only had "Read" permissions on the folder in question, but I did try "Read and Write" access to see what happened. Nada.
I cannot find a definitive answer as to sharing movies with iTunes. But, even if iTunes will only share music libraries, I still think that I should be able to stream movies by accessing the file directly. The wired PC is in my daughter's room, and I would like her to be able to stream movies from the iMac. If I navigate directly to the folder in question, one of two things happen. If I try to open a .mp4, I get "Error 50: An unknown error occured" If I try a .mv4, iTunes will open, but nothing happens. I can view the movies playlist under my shared library, but nothing happens when I attempt to open one.
Eventually, I would like to softmod a used XBOX my sister gave me to stream movies on the iMac to another TV. I even tried XBMC on the wired PC to act as a media manager since iTunes would not pull movies off the network. It will find the movies, but it will stall (I did not let it keep trying after 15 minutes of "buffering" a movie.)
I know I'm not the only one trying to share a library. Even if iTunes will not let me do it, I should be able to set something up so others on my LAN can access these files.
    iMac specs:
    2.4 GHz Intel, 2G RAM
    OS X 10.5.5
    Wired PC specs:
    1.99 GHz Intel, 384mB RAM
    XP SP2
    XP SP2
Any suggestions? I don't have another Mac to attempt this with, but if 3 PCs have the same failure, I suspect it's either how my network is set up, file permissions on the iMac, or just a fundamental flaw in the way I'm trying to resolve this issue.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Wow! No one has any suggestions?
It has been suggested that Quicktime streaming will only work with Apple hardware. Can anyone tell me if iTunes will allow sharing video from a shared library, even if only Mac to Mac?
I'm beginning to suspect that is the case. In the meantime, I will try sharing a VIDEO_TS file using a media player on the wired PC to see what happens.
Or, if I'm good, perhaps I can get someone to bring a MacBook over one evening to try this with.
    More to follow.

  • Copying files from Mac to PC network shared drives.

Copying files from Mac to PC network shared drives.
We have shared mounted drives in AIX Fusion that we can pull files from and copy to the mac, however we can not copy files from the mac to the drives.
“Error in user parameter list (-50)” With MS DOS-Formatted Volume.”
The drives are mapped on the mac using SMB. We can go to the files on the mac and use “save as” and this works and saves them on the shared drives.
We can not drag and copy them to the shared drives. Every time it fails and we get the above error. We can create folders but not move any files.
When we look up the error, it is referring to certain characters that can but used in a Max OS X filename and are not allowed in MS-DOS filenames. We are not using any of the characters not allowed.
The drives have all the basic set up in AIX, RWC. All the PC's we have can drag files to and from all our shared drives.

Either install software which enables the Mac to write to NTFS drives, or MacDrive on the PC, or reformat any drives you'll be using to share files between the computers as either FAT32 or exFAT.
