Sharing to FB and CR2 files

Hi all, thanks in advance this website is such a great resource to have questions answered!
Running PSE9, Win7, Canon 1100D with CR2 raw format, facebook.
I shoot in raw and work with my photos in the organizer in raw, only changing format when neccessary for output.
When I do edits in raw such as exposure, crop, WB, recovery, these edits are reflected in my organizer previews 100% of the time.
If i take a raw photo that was cropped, recovered, exp. adj. etc from the organizer and share to Facebook I have found once
the photo appears on FB it does not always reflect my raw edits.  I find it to be unreliable, some edits go through to the web
other ones do not with no predictable pattern or rule.
Taking my edits and saving as JPEG guarantees they will show up as I want when shared to FB however this adds an extra
step to my workflow and takes up more memory having version sets which I would prefer to avoid.
Can anyone offer any insight here? I have looked the the PSE9 user guide, aftermarket PSE9 books, facebook help, and there
doesn't seem to be anything out there detailing the sharing to Facebook.
Thanks again!

As long as the XMP files are intact along side the CR2 files then All of the Edit adjustments should be available.
The only difference I could think of would be if you click the open image button in Camera Raw to send an image for further editing in Elements Full Photo Edit as 16 bit.

  • Windows 8 Elements 11 Problem with DNG and CR2 files

Have a Windows 8 machine with Elements 11 which has Camera Raw 7.4 installed and showing correctly in the editor. The Browser shows thumbnails of the DNG and CR2 files, but when an attempt is made to edit them, the editor opens but does not open the file. Same thing happens if I try to open the file using the File Open from the menu.
Also I have been through the help and forums and found an article about opening jpeg files as Camera Raw files (http://blogs.adobe.com/pselements/open-jpeg-files-in-adobe-camera-raw-in-photoshop-element s/) and this does not work either.
    Help please !

Disclaimer:  The following applies to WINDOWS EXPLORER.  I don't use Bridge so I don't know if it's applicable at all to Bridge.
Adobe does not provide a codec for viewing Canon raw files as thumbnails.  Canon has one for free but it only works on a 32 bit Windows system.
Early this year I found a free download for displaying raw file thumbnails that works on an x64 Windows system.  Since that time the author realized there's a real demand for this software and has started charging for it.  In any case, I find it works very well.

  • Dng and CR2 files display as icons in CS5

Now I have installed CS5 on three machines - a new installation on WIN7, and here everything is alright - no problem!
Two machines running XP wth a previous CS4 installation uninstalled show up in Bridge with this problem:
dng and CR2 files display as icons!!
Everything is updated, ACR plugin placed as should be, and Camera RAW is working fine when OPENING the file. It is only a display problem, but this is serious enough - you cannot go through your downloaded pictures.
I have tried to follow a solution close to the one given for CS4:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407945.html
but I am out of luck.
Is it an XP problem, or has it something to do with the previous installation of CS4?
Any suggestions will be great! I have searced, read, tried, searched, tried.... some share this problem, but I haven't seen any soloution.
    Thanks, Jan

  • In PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but PSD, DNG and CR2 files don't. Also, no thumbnail below the file list.

Working in PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but psd files just have white sheet of paper as preview.  I have to open the file to be able to see it.  Also, there is no thumbnail of the file below the file list.Surely, there's a setting that needs to be changed. I did not have this problem with Elements 12. This is a real bother because I have to use Lightroom to see all the file types. It seems as if Elements is using the standard Windows file loader that can't show previews of file types it doesn't know including .PSD, DNG and CR2. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? Thanks for any help.

I am using Windows 7 64 bits. Working in the editor, I never use the organizer. The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see  a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.

  • Raw and CR2 files won't sort by time

I recently shot a wedding with my Nikon while my second shooter shot with her Canon. We made sure the times were the same so that Lightroom could work its organization magic. After I uploaded them, the CR2 files showed up above the Raw files. All of the images are in one folder and I have it set to Sort by Capture Time, but they will not mix together according to their times.
When I uploaded my Nikon images I realized that my year was off. It was set to 2010 instead of 2011, so I changed the metadata accordingly and it changed to the correct year for all of my Nikon images. I uploaded the Canon images after that incident, but they still won't sort by time. Do you think that metadata change has something to do with the images not mixing together or it is the file names?
There are about 1400 images all together it will be quite an exhausting experience to have to organize them myself. So I would definitely appreciate some help!
    Thanks!!
    Ruth

Check the timezone of each filetype.
The US is several hours behind GMT so if the corrected NEFs are GMT-relative while the CR2s are US-time-zone-relative that could explain the issue, or maybe one camera had timezones set on it and one didn’t and the difference has nothing to do with the metadata correction you did.
Did your metadata correction update the headers of the RAW files, themselves, or just LR’s internal information in its database and/or XMP files?
If the RAW files were modified, check the timestamps with EXIFtool:
    http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
If only the LR-stored metadata was modified, not the RAW files, themselves, then create an XMP file for one CR2 and one NEF taken about the same time, using Metadata->Write Metadata to File(s), and examine the two XMP files in a text editor to see what the timestamps and timezones say.

  • Sharing Photo, Video and Music files

My new iMac has arrived and I'm looking forward to transferring across all my files at the weekend and to starting to use it.
We use the computer as a family computer although we have different accounts on the computer. I would like to enable all members of the family to have access to all photo, video and music files when they are signed into their individual accounts and using iLife.
My question is this: where should I place these files to enable common access. At the moment they are stored under my user name and therefore only I can access them. A slight refinement on this is that although I want to encourage the kids to use iLife and develop their skills in this area, I want to make sure that they don't delete/alter any of the original files so would ideally like them to save any changes they make in a new file under their accounts.
    Hopefully this makes sense!

    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
To protect your own user account:
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.

  • Linking adjacent JPG and CR2 files

Most of my folders treat adjacent JPG and CR2 as one file when viewing in Lightroom. However, I have one folder that for some reason treats them as two photos—they are not linked together. How can I fix the photos in that folder so the adjacent JPG and Raw files can be viewed as a single photo?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I tried that with stacks at 1 second and then collapsed stacks and it worked well. However, what shows up now is the JPG. How can I have the Raw CR2 show up on top of each stack?

  • Stacking of DNG and CR2 files

When creating DNG files, I prefer to leave the CR2 files in the same directory and not embedded in the DNG files.
This prevents the DNG files from doubling in size and thus prevents them from taking twice as long to open/read/write/etc.
However, LR does not recognise IMG_1234.DNG and IMG_1234.CR2 as being the same like it does IMG_1234.CR2 and IMG_1234.JPG.
It would be nice for it to automatically stack photos like this:
    DNG
    CR2 (or other native raw)
    JPG

I doubt many use the same schema for both DNGs and RAWs in the same folder. For one, it'd be too easy to in some cases edit the RAW, and others editing the DNG. One reason I never shoot RAW + JPEG; having all three would be unworkable for me.

  • CS6 and CR2 files.

Hello, I've just recently switched from CS5 to CS6. I am also shooting with a new 5D Markiii. I'm still shooting in raw but when I pull my images thru Bridge it shows a CR2 file. I can't pull those images into Camera Raw or photoshop. I checked to make sure my updates were up to date, and they are. I'm not the most savy computer person in the world but clearly I'm missing something. Can someone help me? Please!

Photoshop CS6 come with ACR 7.0 which does not support Cannon D800. So, you need to update to ACR 7.1

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and CR2 files.

I have Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 on a Windows 7 laptop and I can't open CR2/RAW files. Is there something I can do to open CR 2/RAW files in PE9?

You need camera raw 7.3 for your camera. It is only compatible with PSE11 to 13. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Lightroom and CR2 Files

I have just downloaded lightroom and it cannot read my CR2 files downloaded from iPad. Any ideas to solve problem appreciated

Is this the process you used?
    "Getting Photos off the iPad
After you have transferred photos to your iPad using the CCK, you may be wondering how you get them back off the iPad.
You do this by connecting the iPad to a computer using the standard sync and charge cable that came with your iPad. When connected this way, the iPad appears as a removable drive in your file browser, just as if you had connected a camera or a card reader.
You can then copy the files over to your computer using the default file manager, or using the import function within your desktop software such as Lightroom or Bridge. The raw files will be just the same as if you can transferred them from your camera or storage card."

  • DNG Copnverter and CR2 files

I have a new Canon 60Da and an old Photoshop CS4 which requires that I use DNG Converter to convert my .cr2 files to DNGs for access.  I'm using version 7.4 of the converter, just downloaded and installed on a WinVista 64 machine.  If I open the converter and browse to select images the converter refuses to acknowledge any folders as containing .cr2 Canon raw files.  It continually reports zero files selected.  There is nothing wrong or unusual with the path to the folder.
I am able to drag and drop up to about 25 files onto the shortcut icon on my desktop and the converter opens up and converts them.  I can also drop a folder of files onto the icon with success.  If I drop >25 files onto the shortcut I get a fatal error message: "C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter.exe The data area passed to a system call is too small."
From the forum it appears that this was a problem back in mid-2011 so I guess I shouldn't expect any joy from Adobe.  Even aside from the fact that failing to support new cameras in ACR can only be explained as either incompetent programming or a conscious business decision to 'encourage' people to upgrade to later Photoshop versions.

When using the DNG converter to select your images, you cannot choose individual images or groups of images.  You can only choose the folder that contains raw images.  The DNG converter will not list actual files.  Only the folder that contains the files.  If you want to convert individual images you have to use that drag/drop method.

  • Slowdowns and .CR2 files

    Hi,
since when i upgraded my MacBook Pro 13 from Lion to Mountain Lion i'm experiencing a very hard slowdown in showing me the folder content's, especially if the folder contain .CR2 files(canon raw). Also, if i try to move some .CR2 files to the trash, it takes a very long time, even for a single file.
No issue to visualizing the same files with quicklook.
Can anyone suggest me a solution? My workflow is badly compromised by that problem.
    Thanks,
    Luca

    Hi again,
after the upgrade to 10.8.2 the problem is still there. Now i'm thinking to reinstall the OS. For the first time in my Mac experience(since system 9).

  • Sharing iTunes music AND library files between multiple users in Windows XP

My wife and I share the main computer and both use iTunes, each of us with our own iPod. While Apple covers how to share your music directory itself (which I did when iTunes was first installed by making the music directory C:\music), it doesn't allow you to share the library files--so, for example, if you added a playlist in one account it doesn't sync with the other.
Microsoft has an app called Sync Toy which allows you to keep any set of files/folders on a Windows box synchronized with another set. I use Sync Toy to run a scheduled task each day in the middle of the night to sync the files in the iTunes directory in our %homepath%\My Music folders with each other--the most recently updated one will be synchronized.
Just thought I'd share this tidbit of info since I haven't seen it posted before and it's saved my wife and I a lot of time.
Hope this helps someone out there.

That is one way to do it. There is another way, which is only slightly more difficult, but which you might find more attractive.
Basically, iTunes expects to find your library files in the "My Music/iTunes" folder. However, "My Music" is a special system folder, its location is defined by Windows.
If you download TweakUI, you can use it to set where your My Music folder is. So, if you create a folder that both you and your wife can access, and then set both of your My Music folders to be that folder, then you will have a shared library. No syncronization needed, changes you make to one will happen to the other because you both have the same library files.
Only downside to this is that you can't use Fast User Switching and thus have both people logged in and using iTunes at the same time, because while one of you has the library open, the other can't access it until you close it.
    It works fine.

  • Shared Time Machine and duplicated files?

I have a new MBP (running Lion) and an older MacBook (running Leopard).  I'd like both to run Time Machine to a shared external hard drive which I think I've worked out.  My question is whether or not TM will store duplicate versions of the same files (particularly photos, videos, etc.) on the external hard drive, thus using up the EHD capacity more quickly, or will one file be saved and just recognized as being on both computers by TM.
Any ideas on this?  Ideally I'd like to take a good amount of files off the old MacBook so my wife can still use it and it will run a little smoother since it's hard drive is pretty close to maxed out now.

The backups will be separate. Identical files will be duplicated.
