  • Sharing video in iTune

I am using windows7 pc and setup iTune 10.5. I am not able to share any video which are recognized by the itune itself. I can transfer these  videos to iPad3 but not thru home sharing so that i can play it on Apple TV directly without bringing the iPad in picture.
I am able to play music files (mp3) listed in the iTune on the apple TV only issue is with Videos.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

Did you find an answer to this problem. I have exactly the same issue and it is very frustrating.
I have validated the settings in my firewall and router so don't believe that is the cause. I have copied the mp4 file to my laptop, loaded into iTunes and it plays fine. I can play shared music files, and can see the shared video. I just can't play it !!!

  • Help with mutiple files produced by sharing video to Itunes

    Hi All,
As I continue to learn I am looking for some help. After importing DV video and then creating a movie in Imovie08 I shared the movie with Itunes. Looking through all the video files there are now two copies of everything on the drive..
    Copy #1 is in- movies/imovie/sharing/itunes/filename.mv4
    Copy #2 is in-music/itunes music/ movies/filename.mv4
The questions are can I delete the one in the Itunes music file? what can I do to prevent this in the future?
    Thanks
    GE

First most of the movies I am making are over 1gb so having two copies is not really an option as I will soon run out of space.
Most people would agree and it is not necessary to do if both copies are "standalone" files. Yours are.
when I checked get info for both files they were the same size so no reference smaller file as I have seen with the projects.
This merely confimrs that both files are, indeed, "standalone" copies and that iTunes is operating with the default preference to physically copy imported/added files to your iTunes Library wherever that might be located.
I was able to go into Itunes in the advanced and tell it not to copy to Itunes (thanks again) when sharing. On the most recent shared project this has eliminated the file in Itunes music but saved to the movie, imovie sharing, itunes ...File. When I open I tunes it did pick up the movie and sync with my apple TV. So far so good. My question now is why not leave like this?
You can leave it like this and that is one of the things mentioned previosly when I cautioned you that in this mode you could not then delete the shared folder copy of your video. Basically you have to options.
    1) The first is to leave your standalone files physically in their original stored location and copy a "reference" pointer (like an alias) to iTunes. This method of operating keeps your iTunes Library relatively small but leaves your main "standalone" files scattered anywhere on any of your hard drives depending on how/where they were created/stored.
    2) The second is to use the iTunes default setting as it was, physically copy the files to the iTunes Library, and then delete the "sourcing" or "intermediate" file which is no longer needed. This work flow "consolidates" all of your video files to single, known area but means your iTunes Library can become quite large.
The option you choose is up to you. I prefer the second option as I have an external 1 TB drive dedicated exclusively for use as my iTunes Library. In this manner all of my files are located in a known location and I can keep my internal start-up drive (and all other drives) relatively free of "clutter" by deleting video files from their source location as soon as I have imported them to iTunes. And, since I know where the file are located, I still maintain normal access to them for any "file" level operations (e.g., posting to any of my web sites/servers, sharing with friends/family via e-mail, QT Link files, and "reference" files, etc. Basically I use iTunes for the "physical" management of my videos for distribution to iPod, iPhone, and TV devices; iTunes, Front Row, and QT Player viewing; as well as, a central storage point for file level operations such as e-mail (standalone, reference, or QTL), site/server upload source, peer-to-peer distribution, etc. This works for me but may or may not suit another user's particular needs.
One suggestion earlier was to delete the Movie/Imovie sharing file. While this makes sense I would have to manually transfer it in or share to both then delete it.
The "sharing to iTunes" by iMovie is "automated." The deletion of extraneous files is not. Since iMovie does not know whether you are using iTunes manage your files physically, it cannot be pre-programmed to automatically delete the "shared" file without risking it will "orphan" the reference sent to/stored in iTunes. That is why the deletion is left to the user as a manual option.
Why not leave the flow the way it is. Will I later have some issue with I tunes? Or is the potential to over write the information if I adjust the project the issue?
As previously stated, you can use iTunes in this preference mode. While I doubt there would be any potential for accidental "overwites," there are other possibilities. Besides offending my sense of proper organization, there is the potential for such "scattered" files to be accidentally deleted in error. Also, there is always the possibility that someone might "move" the "standalone" file to a different location on the same or a different hard drive. In either instance, your iTunes file pointer would likely be "orphaned" and the content would no longer be availalable until or unless a valid path were restored. In addition, having files scattered all over your drives makes backing them up a bit of a chore. By consolidating all of my videos and music physically as I do, it is much easier to automatically "back them up" using another external drive and either Time Machine or other such software -- something to consider after doing all that work creating your files. What is best for you will depend on you specific work flows, needs, and concepts. There is no right or wrong here but merely what works best for you.

  • Issue playing videos in iTunes with Windows 7 x64

    Hi, hoping someone can help.
I  am running Windows 7 64 bit, and have installed the latest version of iTunes. I have around 150 HD movies stored on my PC, which were previously from an iMac I owned. Whenever I play one of these, the video keeps stuttering and dropping frames then freezing etc. Now, the issue is not with the files, as they play in WMP and VLC perfectly fine. It happens in exactly the same spot in the videos everytime they are played. My CPU reaches 100% then drops to 0% as the freezing is happening. It appears as though my CPU cannot handle the files, yet they play fine in another player.
I was wandering if anyone else is having this problem, it's incredibly frustrating because I love iTunes as a media manager.
    Thanks.

Try reset winsock and see it will fix the issue.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • AirPort Express - watch video in itunes with SOUND via AirPort Express?

Ok I read it is only possible via Airfoil...
Sorry to bother you guys - no idea how to delee this...
    Hello everyone!
I was overly excited to receive the airport express 802.11n Wi-Fi
and everything works wonderfully. But some trouble arose non the less:
The reason for the wireless AirPort was to allow projecting Videos via a Beamer on the wall
and have fantastic sound, even though the soundsystems are standing elsewhere.
But when opening itunes (it works with normal music just fine) and starting a purchased video there,
there is no way I can choose the external soundsystem to be used to generate the sound.
This drives me nuts! It would be really silly to not be able to use a soundtransmitter by apple
when watching a video by apple's itunes, wouldn't it? That makes no sense.
Please tell me there is a way to make it work....
Thank you for your time and help!
    Lia

Apple does offer an option that does both. It's called the Apple TV.

  • Sharing iPhoto and iTunes with multiple local users

My wife and I share the Intel iMac and we want to share both the iTunes and iPhoto libraries...
Can I just place them in the Users/Shared folder, do an Option (first time) launch from each account to identify it's location and can we both access them from there, or is there more to it...
We also want to be able to import and download photos/music from either account into the same library....
    thanks

And if you'd like to have each user have a total independent library while sharing the same source files see Tutorial #3.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing apps on itunes with multiply user

We have 2 latest generation iPod touches and 1 iPhone  4 all set up on same iTunes acct.  What happens when apps with saved info are shared/ synced?   Is there a way to keep each individual modified app on each individual device while still sharing other apps.  The apps do not seem to have separate profiles.

My 8 and 10 year want to share apps when they first purchase them, but after they start using the "games" they no longer want the apps synced.   If they buy a new app they can not share that one with out syncing all the other apps they want to keep on there devices.
I had my own iPhone and did not have these questions and confusion.  It seems multiple people should not be sharing an itunes acct.
Can you clarify a bit more?

  • Sharing iphoto and itunes with accounts on the same computer

I have admin rights on the PC and would like to give the guest account access (on the same PC) to the i-photo and i-tunes libraries under my account. How can I do that

    What version of iPhoto?
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Error Message when trying to watch shared video files thru the 'Video' app, via iTunes

Since updating my iPad 2 to the new operating system, I can no longer watch shared videos from iTunes. I am getting the error "you do not have permission to access the requested resource.". I have restarted the ipad, turned home sharing off and on, reset the network... any ideas on how to get past this issue?

Unfortunately, I don't think any of those solutions will work. The video won't play on my computer either, but I think that's because I don't have Quicken, or whatever is needed to watch videos from iTunes. Maybe that's what I need to do? Download the appropriate software to play the video on my computer?

  • Add my own music videos to iTunes

When i add a music video or an episode of TV show to iTunes, it will always file it under the "Movies" tab. The music videos i buy on iTunes will always be filed under "Music Videos"...i have tried playing around to tag my own music videos as "music Videos" in iTunes with no success..Does anyone know what i have to do to get it to work?!!

You can set the kind to "Movie" or "Music Video" as follows:
In the iTunes library find the video and then Right click it / Get Info / Options tab / Video kind and choose.
It would be nice if there were more choices but this may be enough for you.

  • What does "Shared" mean in itunes

I see the "shared'' in my itunes with the libraries of others around me. When i click on 1 of libraries it just shows me what
another person had in their iTunes. Is another purpose to this that I'm not getting??

This means that the person has enabled Home Sharing on their iTunes. People usually use Home Sharing to transfer their purchases from one iTunes library to another computer's iTunes library. Just disregard it if it's not yours.

  • I SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, AND i CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HELP

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!
