Sharing wifi connection to pc

Hello,
after exhausting searching everywhere I decided to pop the question here, not sure even if its the right section, sorry if its not.
I am trying to share my wifi connection on the N80 with my PC. I've connected the phone using USB cable, and have a Wireless network setup and working. I can connect to the wireless network with phone perfectly, but i would like to share that connection to the PC.
The Data Suite App has option to share internet connection using phone's modem, but can't it be done using WiFi, kinda like usb wifi dongle.
Perhaps some 3rd party applications exists out there?
Thanks

There is no TCP/IP network router software for the N80 that would allow you to do what you want. I'm not even sure the phone has sufficient memory and processing capability to handle such a task in any decent way.
So, if you need your PC to connect to a WLAN network, best to get a WLAN adapter for the PC.

  • Sharing a WiFi Connection in OSX

Lets say your in a hotel that has wifi and you have to pay $10 a day for the connection.  You don't want to have to pay $10 again for your iPad and iPhone to connect as well.
I would like to share the WiFi connection on my MAC with other devices.  I know how to do this with two WiFi cards but can this be done with a single WiFi Card?
I know technicialy it is possible to do this with one card because I have see apps for Windows and even an iPhone using the Jailbroken MyFi App that used a bridge tethered mode to share a WiFi (not 3G) connection to a number of devices.
Anyone know of a way to do this on a MAC?
    All the best,
    Joe

    Hi Sig,
If only life was that simple.  The basic Mac XOS Internet Sharing will allows you to share a wired internet connection over wireless or a wireless internet connection over wire.  Or if you have two wireless cards you can share the connection on one wireless card with users onanother card.
What I wanted to do was share the Wireless Internet connectionon the same wireless card.  It looks like you have to pick a different interface for sharing then the one your wish to share using the approach you are recommending.
    All the best,
    Joe

  • Connecting to shared iTunes via iPod Touch wifi connection

I was wondering if there was a way for me to connect to my shared iTunes music from my iPod Touch (IE in another room, NOT connected to a computer). I would assume that since my iTunes is shared over my wifi connection, and my iPod Touch connects over the same wifi, it would let me do this, but I can't find anything to support this evidence. I'm probably wrong.
If anyone has an answer, let me know! Thanks.

This assumes that you use the Ethernet port to connect the iMac to the Internet:
Navigate to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > Internet section. Switch on Internet Sharing and choose "Sharing your connection from": "Built-in Ethernet". To computers using "Airport".
To secure the connection (highly recommended) go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > Internet section. Click on "Airport Options..." and check "Enable encryption (using WEP)". Then enter a password twice. You will need to enter this password to share your connection, although you should be aware even 128bit WEP isn't all that secure.
Additionally OS X IP firewall is probably blocking incoming Port 80 requests (i.e. web traffic).
Go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > and under Services check "Web Sharing".
The wording in this post is for Leopard (10.5).

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them

  • Connecting to shared internet connection through Mac osx 10.7 wifi

I can't get my new HP touch pad to connect to my wireless network. I connect my iMac through ethernet but have a wifi network setup from my iMac so my other devices can use my iMacs shared internet connection. The touchpad will not connect, it finds the network, I put in the WEP key and it states "unable to connect, try again". I am at the setup stage on the touch pad and can't get any further!!. I have tried everything I can think of including creating a new wireless network, disabling and changing the sharing password and re-enabling. all my other devices still log on fine and can connect to the internet through the iMacs connection. anyone got any ideas?

I just remembered why I ignored your first post when reading this topic:
Ad-hoc-sharing can't be the problem, because when I use the exact same method without any WEP encryption, so create an open network, it works perfectly - so it has to be an error in the webOS' handling of WEP or similar...
I'm curious that the Mac offers only ASCII (key length of 5 characters) or 128 bit encryption, but not 64bit (which has a key length of 10 hexadecimal characters and works perfectly with my touchpad).  <Wiki definition of WEP.>
This sounds like an old problem we used to have when Palm came out with WiFi-enabled devices. Users would create an ASCII text password in their router, and it would generate a 10 character hexadecimal string that was the true password.  Entering the 5-digit ASCII code would fail since it was a seed, and not the "real" code.. Entering the 10-digit key worked every time.
By any chance is this what is occurring on the Mac? Do you see a 10 digit code generated anywhere in the setup routine?
Was the link I provided to you of any help?

  • Can't use my wifi connection while sharing it to my PC via Ethernet

I am sharing my WiFi connection to my desktop PC using an Ethernet cable. The internet works great on my desktop, however my MacBook now can't use the connection. It says it's connected to WiFi but nothing will load.
Anyone know how I can use internet on both devices at the same time?
    It's a MacBook (Mid 2010) running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1

Lets se if I understand this. Are you doing this because you don't have a router? And you need to create a hot spot? Here in an article on doing this.http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/turn-windows-wifi-hotspot-share-internet-connection /

  • Is 3G shared internet considered as WIFI connection?

I have an iPhone 4S sharing the 3G internet connection with de iOS Hotspot option. My iPad WIFI is connected to that shared connection and the icon of a little chain appears on my iPad.
The questions is if the iPad will recognize that connection like a Cellular connection o WIFI special, in order not to do things like download/upload Photo Stream photos, iCloud Backup, Apps downloading things that only are configured to be downloaded from WIFI (like Instacast)?
Is 3G shared internet considered as WIFI connection by the iPad?
    Thank you in advance.

Yes, The Shared connection is wifi, and all traffic throught the wifi connection is passed through the 3G connection. You have to watch out for what you have enabled when you leach off your phones 3g connnnection...You will go over your plan limits in a hurry.

  • Sharing a (hotel) Wifi Connection?

When I stay in hotels I often have to use a very expensive wifi network, connecting with my MBP. Is there a way of sharing that connection with my other wireless devices (iPad and iPhone) using either a software or hardware solution. I guess I need to create a second wireless network to share my connection, which is probably not possible with a MBP/OS X, but I wonder if anyone has produced a device (USB?) that will provide a second wireless network?

if you can get a wifi stick that works under OS X, this should work.
you cannot share from wifi to wifi because of a technical limitation - you only have a single wifi card, so you can only use it to either receive or send.
if you can get a second wifi interface to work under OS X, you should be able to pass the internet from one to another.
another solution is to share from wifi to bluetooth, but the iphone and ipad cannot receive internet that way.
another solution might be to set up your iphone to tether its internet, which you can then pass on via bluetooth.

If you have a wired connection to the iMac and you are asking about using the iMac for the Internet connection for the iPad, you will need to use Internet Sharing on the Mac.
No clue which OS version you run on the Mac, but here is a link to help with 10.6 and this will get you started. You can Google " Internet sharing with Mac OS ...." and come up with a number of support articles.

  • Windows 7 desktop drops WIFI connection

    Hi -
I seem to see a lot of posts with this same problem, but no solution that's relevant to me.  I have a DLink DIR 655 router that has the latest firmware installed (I updated it yesterday). One of the machines on my wireless network is having problems.
Two Microsoft Surfaces, three Windows phones, and one Canon WIFI printer all work fine, its only a desktop that uses a USB Wireless card that has the problem.  I am currently using a Medialink MWNUSB150N wireless card.  Note, however, that I had
exactly the same problems with a DLink wireless card.
The problem is that the WIFI connection drops frequently.  The systray will indicate that I am connected to the wireless network with internet access.  Then I will notice that web pages are not loading, but it will still show that I am connected
to the WIFI network and the internet.  After a short time, the systray will show that I am connected to the network, but have no internet access.  After some more time it will show that I am not connected, but will usually show that connections
are available.  When I try to reconnect (my SSID shows as available at this point), then I get an error saying no network is available.  At this point, my SSID no longer shows as available.  I've run the troubleshooter probably 100 times over
the course of several months.  It never helps.  Rebooting sometimes helps.  Sometimes it seems like I need to do a voo doo dance to get the connection back.  Following is the result of running netsh wlan show driver.
    Any ideas?

    Questions:
Regarding your advice to check the wireless security settings - I don't know exactly what to do.  I went into the router admin page and checked the wireless security - its set to "WPA-Personal". Other than that, I don't know how to tell if
    its using TKIP or not.
The next time it fails, I will try your suggestion to remove the network and reconnect.  I can't remember if I tried that at some point, so I'll give it a shot.  I'm waiting for it to fail right now as I tried something yesterday that I think has
a low chance of success, and it hasn't failed yet.  I noticed that the option to "allow Windows to turn off this device to save power" was checked for the wireless adapter, so I unchecked that value.  I only think it has a low chance of
success, since the timing of the shutdowns was pretty random and did not "smell" like a power saving thing, but thus far it hasn't failed.  I'm still within the window of randomness, though.  Sometimes it works for a little over a day and
sometimes it fails after less than 5 minutes, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the moment.
    Comments:
Tried using different USB ports, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and front panel vs. real panel just in case there was anything weird going on.  No difference.
Updated the driver using the "update driver" button.  Windows believes I have the best driver installed. I did look for other versions, didn't find anything.

  • How do i get my Wifi connection speed back up after ios 5.0.1 on 3gs?

It actually began after the ios 5.0 update but this one hhas not fixed it. I notice that many people have had this same problem but i would like to know how to sort it out without spending extra money as THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT!! It seems clear that it is the update unless odds longer than winning 5 countries lottery in a week have come in and this many iphones have lost wifi connectivity in a single day.... I think not. Anyway back to the point, is there anything i can do to rectify this? My wife has the same problem and yet again.... What a long shot.

    Hey iphoneboy16
Create a Shared Photo Stream to get any missed photos that did not make it into the Photo Stream. Remember, when you turned on Photo Stream it will start to copy new photos taken at that point in time. It also only holds the pictures for 30 days and up to 1000 photos.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • Having problems sharing internet Connection from Macbook to Vonage Adapter

    Hello,
I just got my Vonage adaptor and I am trying to share the Internet connection from my Macbook Pro (10.7.3) to the Adaptor to use the Vonage service bc my router is downstairs.
I turned off my Firewall, hooked my Vonage adapter to the Macbook with the ethernet cable and then went to Sys Preferences > Sharing > Selected Internet Sharing > Share Connection from Wifi to computers using Ethernet, and it looks like everything is ok but when i try to use the phone which is connected to to Vonage Adapter, it says "Your Vonage device cannot connect to the internet, check to see if your high speed internet is down".
I went and looked at my Network preferences and it shows Ethernet connected which is the Vonage Adapter and gives the following:
    IP Address: 169.254.163.167
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Is there something Im doing wrong? Ive seen on several forums that its possible to do but having bad luck. Any help is appreciated.

All I know is that I got Ubuntu to share internet and offer IPs through DHCP by using Firestarter. I am very new to Solaris, however, and am looking forward to learning about it. I've just made it my regular desktop environment. Long as you can get Solaris to configure its network interface with DHCP after your Ubuntu is configured, you should be able to share to as many clients as you'd like. Fedora also works well for that, and in my opinion, it's a better Linux than Ubuntu, though Solaris remains a better Linux than Linux, right? Har.
