SHARP 32D4U & MacMini DuoCore via HDMI

Wow, when I asked the Apple salesperson before I purchased the MacMini, he assured me that the display would come out crystal clear without issues.
Unfortunately that's not the case as I'm sure a lot of people are having with the overscan and black display bars.
Now I downloaded and played with DisplayConfigX, but I can't seem to find the settings for my T.V.
The Sharp LCD I'm running is capable of 1366x768 but it is currently being forced to run at 1280.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A SIMILIAR SETUP TO ME AND HAS GOTTEN THE IMAGE TO RUN AT 1366x768?
Please, I'm seriously considering returning the Mini on the fact that I was mislead to believe that I would be able to utilize my LCD TV. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Well - no help here either, but more of the same.
I connected the Mini to a JVC LT32A-61SU through DVI, and got 1280x720 as resolution. In itself, this is good enough for my use, intends to stit with some distance to the screen. But there is still one pretty annoying issue; the screen coverage.
My JVC TV is obviously one of the "good" ones, as it is detected by the Mini with at least the correct name. But the top gry bar (I´m new to Mac) is not visible (above the screen), resulting in several "shots in the dark" when I try to do configurations.
Now, I have discovered a way to see it a gain, namely to go into the "options" menu on the display particulars, and switch off the "overscan" feature. Then I get a picture that resembles what others are complaining about, with black secors surrounding the picture. And the picture quality is much poorer. Hardly satisfying.
Have as well played around with SwitchResX Control, but no success.
And I whom am converting to Mac to reduce my need for fiddling with drivers!
Is it the Intel desease that is spreading?

  • My latest MacMini is unable to detect my Samsung monitor via HDMI direct connect.

    Hi
My MacMini (current model ie 1 week old) is unable to detect my Samsung monitor (it is about 6 months old and comes with HDMI port) via HDMI.
However, it is possible if I were to use the HDMI/DVI converter that comes with the MacMini.
FYI, I have tried swapping the HDMI cable but the result is still the same. I prefer to connect the the monitor directly to the MacMini without going thru the HDMI/DVI converter and appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi all
Finally I managed to get my Mac Mini connected to the Samsung monitor via HDMI-HDMI.
Below is the cut and paste of the thread I just posted which explains all.
Thank you again everyone for the advice and support.

Hi Mac80     I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"     Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.     I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!     Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)     Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!     jJpecke

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • New 2010 Mac Mini and LG 37" Full HD (via HDMI) query..

Hello all! I have just bought the new Mac Mini which I want to use along with my LG 37" (LH5000) full HD LCD TV.I have hooked them both up together via HDMI. When I first turned the Mac Mini on it detected various resolutions and choose 1080p. However, on this resolution the menu bar, dock finder windows etc all look too small when im sitting on the couch. Im only around 3 metres away from the TV.
Ive changed various resolutions, in fact the 720p resolution looks bigger and better....but surely I should be using 1080p? I was wondering if any one else out there has a similar setup and what res you would recommend I should use? There are other resolutions but I assume the other ones are all Mac (computer LCD) base.
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

Yes, this is a significant issue. And since Apple doesn't allow adjustment of type sizes throughout the OS, it can be very problematic.
One solution is to do as you have done and run the display at a lower resolution.
Another solution is to use the magnification tools that are provided in the Universal Access control panel (system preferences).
Screen zoom works with any scroll mouse (you do not need to buy the MS mouse that was mentioned). Just hold the Control key on the keyboard and turn the mouse's scroll wheel. I use this a lot on my Mini connected to an HDTV.
I also have the size of the mouse pointer arrow increased twofold using the universal access controls.
In the Finder, you can set the Finder preferences so that file names are listed as 16 point type (and click on the set default button). Of course the menus and sidebars are still small and Apple really needs to start offering more versatile adjustments for these other interface areas (like, dare I say it… Windows allows for).
When web browsing, you can magnify the web page in question using the COMMAND key with the + key. You can zoom back again using COMMAND and - . I use that a lot. And yes this shortcut key combo works in both Safari and Firefox.
Lastly, make sure that the sharpness adjustment on your TV isn't turned up significantly, as this will hurt the legibility of type on the screen. The lower the sharpness is set, the more readable the text will be. You'll have to strike a balance that you're happy with between text sharpness and a satisfying sharpness for the video content you watch. On my sony tv, I have the sharpness set at about 25%.
I should also mention that the type on the screen being to small to read is a sign that your screen size to seating distance ratio is outside of the ideal range. In other words, you're sitting too far from your current TV, or you could stand to have a bigger TV for the room in question. To better understand viewing distance versus HD display size, read this:

  • Gx630 and problem with dvd playback via hdmi to plasma

I'm having problems playing a dvd from the gx630 while connected via HDMI to my plasma.  Without fail, the screen freezes up within 5 minutes of watching the movie.  I can watch a dvd on my laptop without a problem.  Any suggestions?

For what it's worth, I experienced the same thing recently with my GX630 while connected to a 42-inch Sharp Aquos. I tried a couple of different discs, but all of them froze just as you described and I had to reboot. I read somewhere that you have to "turn off" the laptop screen when doing this because of dvd copying restrictions, but I haven't looked into it any further.

  • Can I connect via HDMI and get 1920x1080?

Can I connect my MacBook Pro HDMI adapter up to my new Samsung Display via the HDMI connection and get 1920x1080?  Or is the 1080p the best display I can do with that connection?  Should I get the VGA adapter instead?

However my SHARP 42" flat screen (model LC-42D72U) requires DVI MBP (adapter ) to DVI port on the SHARP.
I also have HDMI( and S video, component video and composite video) Also digital audio output from SHARP flat screen but for max UXGA resolution at horizontal frequency of 75.0 kHz DVI the way SHARP requires.
Fortunately Apple gave me DVI adapter free ( seldom heard nice four letter word )

  • No audio via HDMI (dv9700t CTO)

HP Pavilion dv9700t CTO Entertainment Notebook PC / Windows Vista 64bit
I have set the default audio device to the "Realtek Digital Output" device. I get no sound.
I upgraded the audio drivers from the HP support site. Still no sound via HDMI. (microphone quality was reduced to the point of being worthless)
I upgraded the drivers again with drivers from the Realtek website. Still no sound via HDMI. (I regained microphone functionality)
The reciever that I am trying to connect to indicates that there is no audio signal being sent to it from that source (my laptop). I have even tried connecting directly to the tv. That did not work either.
Its almost as if there was no connection between the audio hardware and the HDMI port.

I also have this problem  my laptop is a Pavillion dv6000, when i first got my Sharp LCD every thing worked fine, i had both video & sound now my sound doesn't work. I cant point to exactly when my sound stopped working exactly, but i do let the computer do the regular updates with the HP update service. reading else where http://www.fixya.com/support/t1284552-hdmi_audio_not_appear_installed_hp it appears the problem may have occurred after one of the updates.

  • Mac mini no surround sound via HDMI to TV

I have a MacMINI 2011 which is connected via HDMI cable directly to my Samsung UA55HU8590 TV.
The problem is that the MAC is not delivering a surround sound. If I e.g. watch a movie via iTunes I can only listen in stereo not in DTS or any other dolby sound.
I see in the midi audio setup at the HDMI entry that all my 5.1 settings are greyed out.
I have the latest Yosemite installed.
How can I transfer surround sound via HDMI to my TV?

    Try:

  • No video output via hdmi

I have a brand new Apple Mac Mini that was just delivered via Fed Ex a couple of hours ago.
I CANNOT get video to display over HDMI on my 50" plasma. When I comnect it and boot all I see is "no video input."
I have a newer, smaller Sharp plasma that will show the Apple start-up/splash screen for 15-20 seconds then the screen goes black.
I think the resolution in the settings is too high for my mini but how do I change if I cant see the **** screen?
I believe both of these TV's max out at 720p.
PS. AppleCare Support wants to send me another computer but I can guarantee it isnt a hardware failure.
    Any thoughts?

Well, BSteely, where to begin? After my extensive discussions with more than one support engineer at Apple in Toronto as well as in Austin an interesting picture is emerging. Seems that I'd omitted a few things: First, I was not trying to display HD content but rather standard definition content. Second, I made the mistake hoping for an elegant and easy solution in hookup via HDMI (new flatscreens don't even have a DVI port anymore) - bad mistake! As one of the technicians put it, HDMI is an "unsettled" platform when it comes to HDCP, currently in version 1.4 , meaning, I should have tried VGA instead, a "settled" platform after all. Now, whether this will work remains to be seen because I don't have a micro DVI to VGA adapter yet but suffice to say that in essence I've been getting the message from Apple that, yes, the MacBook Air will - in the near future - support HDCP, but for now it does not contain the necessary software simply because HDMI is in its forth incarnation; plus, as they put it, Apple can't be responsible for testing compatibility with every single HD television set on the market - while it is true that there are thousands in existence, at the same time there are only four versions of HDMI with different HDCP specs! So, while I may be partially answering my own query here, it seems that Apple at this point is not particularly eager to make this software available because they rather would like to sell their new displays with the micro DVI ports instead of us endusers being able to hook the computer video signal up to just ANY monitor or TV. In the end, it is my hope that they will reconsider and not forget who their customers are, maybe after the Christmas season....

Alright. All of my roommates & myself have MacBook Pros. When they plug them into the tv via HDMI, the computer opens a new separate empty space on the tv where you can drag windows from your laptop to the tv screen so you can still use the computer at the same time as watching a movie. However, when I plug mine in, it just shows what is on my computer screen & I really want to know how to change it.

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.
