Sharp 4K Display 60Hz Mac Pro Bugs

Mac Pro (latest generation) 8x3.0Ghz + Dual 6GB AMD D700's
2x Sharp PN-K321 4K Display
When the display is put in MST mode (multi-stream transfer) it does not allow for rotation to portrait mode (270*).  As far as I know the drivers allow for this and this issue is merely with resolution preset within OSX.
Please resolve this ASAP as the vertical real-estate afforded to me by portrait mode is useless (in my situation) at 30Hz and it's a bit disappointing that these displays are still having such issues when they're touted by Apple as being fully TB2 compatible (especially considering that TB MST has been around for a while).
Also given that you pushed major updates in multi-display support with 10.9.3 it's a bit ridiculous that such a basic issue would be unresolved, even on top-line flagship hardware.
If you need any help interfacing with the firmware please let me know as I am happy to assist, but seriously, you need to find a resolution to this.

If the display has a DVI connector it will plug into the Mac Pro directly.  If it uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)

you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

To be able to use the iMac as an external display, the Mac Pro should come with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port, so think that it will include Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, although we don't know anything.
To connect the iMac to the Mac Pro, as your iMac has got a Mini DisplayPort, you have to use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable (Thunderbolt is compatible with Mini DisplayPort cables, but Mini DisplayPort isn't compatible with Thunderbolt cables). Then, just follow the steps of the page above to use the iMac as an external display

  • New cinema display on Mac Pro monitor keeps turning off/going dark. Support told me a keyboard shortcut (something like option R L)... I'd appreciate it if anyone knows it. I had this problem when i 1st bought it 2 months ago.

My new cinema display fro mac pro just went dark. When I 1st bought it, the display wouldn't turn on.I called support and they gave me a keyboard shortcut - something like Option+R+L - that you held down for 2 restart cycles. Then it magically turned on. I can't remember the sequence and I'm afraid to guess! I'd appreciate if anyone knows the trick. I'm also wondering if I should bring this display back...

Cassandra from Apple Support ROCKS!!!! She's a supervisor somewhere and should have a raise. Pleasant, smart and professional with a customer who wouldn't take "I don't know" for an answer.
If your cinema display goes dark:
    1. shut down computer
    2. restart
    3. immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R keys simultaneously for a few minutes (seems forever)
    4. keep holding keys for 2 startup cycles
    5. release and go back to work if you're lucky to have a restored screen

  • How to connect the 27" cinema display to Mac Pro?

Hallo, I want to connect my mac pro, early 2008, with force gtx 285 to a apple cinema display 27", which adapter do I need??? Sorry for my english, I'm from austria. Thanks for your help :-)

To drive the 27" to its full reolution you need a male dual link DVI to female mini-displayport adaptor.  Apple makes one but it is not cheap ($99).  Stick "dual link dvi to mini-displayport adaptor" into a google search and maybe you can find something cheaper.

  • How to connect 3x mini-displayport cinema displays to Mac pro

I'm looking for recommendations on how to connect 3  27" Apple cinema displays to a new Mac Pro (single card).
2 connect direct to the mini-displayports; but which adapter converts DVI-D to mini-displayport (not mini-displayport to DVI-D)?
Any suggestions/recommendations with a link would be appreciated.

  • Using IMAC 27 (LATE 2009 ) as primary display for MAC PRO PRO 2013

I have been a user of IMAC & Macbook but not mac PRO.
I wish to upgrade to  MAC PRO ( 2013 ). As i want to make the transition less costly i want to use my current IMAC 27in ( LATE 2009 ) as the one and only display.
First question . Is the above possible with MAC PRO ?
Second question related - When using the above option eg  MAC PRO as main system and 27in IMAC as display. Will the hard drive and on the IMAC be possible to go in to sleep mode. I would be concious about power consumption and the life expentancy of the constant use of the HARD DRIVE on the IMAC.
I would like to be able to keep the hard drive on the IMAC off or at least in sleep mode.

  • Two Apple Displays and Mac Pro - How To Set Up?

Hello! My boyfriend surprised me yesterday with a second 23" Apple HD Display! Fed Ex delivered it and I had no idea it was coming! Before I take the plunge I need to know how to set it up so it works as with my current Mac Pro and 23" display so that they work together, as one big screen. I have the ATi X1900 graphics card with 512mg of RAM and two DVI ports and assume that will be sufficient to run both displays.
Is it possible to use them as one large screen? If so, how do I set that up? If I just plug it in and restart, will the two screens work as one or as separate screens?
    Thanks!
    Lisa

I did the same thing last night, and if you haven't just plugged it in already, it's really as simple as that.
I get a little video glitch on my main startup screen when I'm booting up, but otherwise it just works smoothly. Plug it in, and go.

  • Using 27in iMac as display for Mac Pro (both latest models)

I'm in need of using my new 27in iMac (current 2012 model) as the display for my current 2012 Mac Pro. As you probably know, the mac pro has 1 DVI port, 2 mini display port, and some firewire ports. The iMac has 1 firewire port and 2 thunderbolt ports. Both units have USB 2.0 obviously. I found that the new iMac doesn't support target disk mode with non-thunderbolt machines so that won't work. I wonder if there is a way to use these other connections to enable my mac pro to display on the imac. Any suggestions?
(My latest wonder is if I can upgrade the video card in the mac pro with a card that has thunderbolt outputs?)

That is a subtle distinction, but I think you are right.
Use an iMac with Thunderbolt as a display
If you have an iMac with Thunderbolt, any other Mac with Thunderbolt can use it as a display. The iMac will play both the video and audio from the other Mac.
Connect the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt ports on each computer.
Make sure both Mac computers are turned on and awake.
Press Command (⌘)-F2 on the keyboard of the external display Mac.
If you want the external display Mac to play audio as well as video from the primary Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, and then click Output. Select the external display Mac from the list of devices.

  • 24" cinema display with Mac Pro

I am looking for a monitor for an old Mac Pro (DVI). I thought about the Cinema Display LED 24" but since it only has mini display port, what are the options for connecting it with the DVI Mac Pro ?

  • Display issues, Mac Pro

Just got my Mac Pro, and it has a pretty frustrating problem. When waking up from sleep the display (ACD 20") stays black and there's no way of getting a signal without rebooting. If that wasn't annoying enough, the same thing happens about 7-8 times out of 10 when I reboot. The computer boots just fine, but the display stays off. I've tried with other displays and get the same problem.
This is a list of the things I've tried so far:
    1. Called Apple Support, who wanted me to send it for a repair which seems kinda sad seeing as I've only had it for a few days. No replacement will be given though. Unfortunately Apple in Europe aren't as generous with the 14-day DOA period as they are in the US.
    2. Reset PMU/PRAM/NVRAM (sometimes brings the display back up, sometimes not).
    3. Removed and reinserted graphics card.
    4. Removed and reinserted memory sticks.
    5. Tried a new set of memory sticks.
    6. Reinstalled OS X, which is the first thing I do whenever I get a new Mac anyway.
    7. Tried different monitors with both ports on the graphics card.
    8. Ran Apple Hardware Test without any errors registering.
Anyone have any suggestions of anything else I should try, or should I give up on this one and get it fixed?
    Thanks

I'm seeing a similar problem, though short-term sleep

  • Plug 24" LED Display into Mac Pro, Still Charge MacBook Air?

Just set up my Mac Pro using the 24" LED Display I used to use with my MacBook Air. With the USB and Mini DisplayPort now plugged into the Mac Pro, could I still plug the MagSafe power cable into the Air to charge it in a pinch, or is there any reason I'd need to unplug the Mac Pro connection first?
    (Rather be safe than sorry...)

Thanks much! Unless anyone cares to chime in with an opposing view, I'll be using the 24" as a spare MagSafe to recharge the Air when I'm at home...

  • 3 x Cinema Displays on Mac Pro

I´m about to configure my BTO Mac Pro 3.0 Ghz. I want to run 3 x Cinema Displays off this system and I wonder if it is possible to combine one X1900 XT graphics card and one Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT (instead of 2 x 7300 GT..) ?
I´m getting 3 x 23" Displays, but I also want to keep the possibility open to run 2 x 30" displays at some point. Besides, I generally like the idea of having a X1900 XT available in my system..
    Would this work ?
    Any input is highly appreciated.
    THANKS.

When the Mac Pro first came out there was a note in the video developer note saying not to mix NVIDIA and ATI cards, but there is no such note in the latest revision of the note.
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Videoimplementation.html>
If you use a X1900 and a 7300 GT, put the X1900 in slot 1 and the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in slot 4 and set the PCI-Express bus to x16 x1 x1 x8.
If you use two X1900s, put them in slots 1 and 2, and set the PCI-Express bus to x8 x8 x1 x8.

  • Two ADC 17" mac displays w/Mac Pro?

I have a pair of the older 17" Mac displays with ADC connectors. I used them with my old MDD G4, which came with a video card that had DVI and ADC connectors. So, I obviously had to buy an ADC/DVI converter so I could use the DVI port that the computer came with (one of the monitors just plugged into the ADC.)
Now that I have the new Mac Pro, with two DVI connectors on the card, does anyone think there would be a problem buying another ADC/DVI converter so I can use two monitors with the Mac Pro? I just wanted to make sure.

"• the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port.
    • One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770.
    • When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing.
Note: If you are using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, only two displays are supported across the three ports.
If you are connecting three displays, any DVI displays must be connected to either the Dual-Link DVI port or must use an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter.
You MUST use All "Active" or "Powered" Mini DisplayPort connector such as the Apple Dual Link, or you can only use two displays

  • 2*17" Studio Displays and Mac Pro -

    Hi,
I have two 17" Studio Displays and want to buy a Mac Pro. can anyone fill me in on what connectivity issues there are with this setup.
(I am sure this question has been answered - if so please post a link to the thread - I don't know enough to be able to sort through the answers when I searched)
    Thanks very much

If they are 17" LCDs with the ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
then each will need a DVI to ADC adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTgyNDg>
If they are 17" CRT with VGA connectors
    <http://www.jestineyong.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/vga.jpg>
they will need DVI to VGA adapters.
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTI1NzQ>
One is included with the Mac Pro.
If they are 17" CRTs with the ADC, you cannot use them with a Mac Pro (or any computer without built-in ADC ports).
