Sharp edges on MacBook Pro

What chances are there of Apple changing it's sharp edge design on future Mac Book Pros? I've just returned a 13" MacBook Pro because the front edges are so sharp they left red marks on the the sides of my hands hurt after 2 hours of typing with the laptop on my lap. I know it's probably not the case if on table, but I often need to have my laptop in lap! (Which is what it's designed to do) - as I travel a lot with it. I'm a devoted Mac user - just love them - and I'm hugely disappointed by this but i't just not comfortable. I've just got a refund and will carry on with my original 1st Generation MacBook Pro (which is a great machine (lacking the specs of course) and very comfortable to use - until Mac come out with a kinder-on-the-wrists version. My partner's just got one and has the same issue and will return it. We're just hoping Mac will alter this at some point with upcoming models.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There have been numerous complaints about the sharp edges, and the best thing to do is to give feedback to Apple as sig suggests.
There is something known as a computer glove that might help should you need a new Mac before Apple gets around to changing the design.

Office Depot carries these if you want to look at one in person.
Good luck!

  • Sharp egdes of MacBook Pro

Just bought a brand new MacBook Pro 15" the other day and already have sore wrists with scar-like lines on them left by the sharp edge of the machine. I searched online to see if anyone has the same problem and found this article about a man filing the sharp edge of his MacBook Pro. Not sure it is a good idea (can the warranty be impacted?), but what else could be done to protect my wrists? I'm a skinny girl and have sensitive skin and veins. I can add that I really like this laptop's performance, but my previous MacBook Pro felt way better "physically." But I'd like to keep this new one too.

You might have better luck getting a reply if you ask for opinions in the MacBook Pro forum. This forum, being for questions about Mac OS X, isn't as likely a place for you to get a quick reply.
    Regards.

  • Dim edges on Macbook Pro

Within the last few days it seems that when I wake my mbp up from sleeping, the edges of the monitor are dimmer than the center. I saw one post that suggested it was just the display warming up, but I've had my mbp for about 5 months now and this is the first time that such a thing has caught my attention. So my questions are, has anyone else encountered anything like this? And is there any truth to the theory that it's just the display "warming up" and therefore normal?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there fellows.
I have a MBP 17" for about a month now, and since I first got it I noticed that the display seemed unevenly lit mostly from left to right with subtle darker shading in the center of the display. I seem to notice it more during the day in brighter lighting conditions. My previous PowerBook 17" always had consistent even lighting over all of the display. I will probably take it in and have it looked over. I suggest that if it bugs you enough and seemed to be consistent/persistent over several days that you also think about taking it in to Apple and have it looked at. It may be a problem that needs to be addressed. We are after all, what keeps Apple (or any other business in business).
    Hasta Luego.

  • Connecting Aquos Sharp TV to Macbook pro

Has anybody figured out how to do this? I have done everything by the manuals. I have a DVI connector to the HDMI Port 6 in the TV. All the right adapters. My TV model is:LC32LE700UN. All I get is a black screen. Computer does not recognize. Does the the DVI port have to be initialized or configured?

Sorry correction. That is a Mini DP port to HDMI that I am trying but I get no indication Mac is seeing TV. Please help.....

  • Viewsonic VX2739wm on Macbook Pro 15" - Fuzzy

I just purchased on of these monitors to use as a main, external display for my 15" Macbook Pro (Model 5,3). According to reviews, the display (though not perfect) should be sharp and good enough for gaming and general computer use.
    Not the case here.
I'm connected via the display's DVI port, using the Apple Displayport-to-DVI adapter. I've tried different setting on the monitor, but still have fuzzy, slightly pixelated text. I'm running the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1080. I've also connected my PS3 via HDMI and the image is not as sharp. Most reviews (PC users) says this monitor is sharp. Is this a Mac driver issue? Unfortunately, there are no Mac video drivers for this display (only PC).
My Samsung B2330 was tack-sharp on this Macbook Pro, so I am trying to figure out why this 27" display is fuzzy.
    Anyone else having similar issues?

What you are seeing is a limitation of your display. 1920 x 1080 is a low resolution for a 27" computer monitor that will be viewed from 2-3 feet away. It's fine for a 27" TV set that will be viewed from 8-12 feet away, but when used as a monitor, its great big pixels (closer in size to those of a 1984 Mac screen than to any current Mac display) simply can't render details or text finely enough for close viewing. Apple's 30-inch 2560 x 1600 Cinema Display had the same problem, but not nearly as bad. That's probably why Apple has replaced it with a 27" model at 2560 x 1440. That 27" display, like several other high-end 27" monitors on the market, has 78% more pixels with which to render sharp detail than yours has.

  • Solution for sharp edges on Retina MacBook Pro

The sharp edges on the front of my new Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013) drove me crazy cutting into my wrists.
My solution is two pieces of self sticking velcro - the loop kind of velcro which is soft. Apply them across the top and down the front edge on either side of the trackpad all the way out to the side edges. They are not too thick so as to prevent sleep when closing the cover. They don't look too bad either. I'd say they match the black keys on the keyboad.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process (Finder) in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Solution for MacBook Pro Sharp Edges

OK. Got my macbook pro 15" and it is very nice. Only thing is the edge of the computer is very sharp compared to my older MacBook which had the rubber on the edges. The edges now cut into my palms and arms.
Fortunately, I found something that worked. I wish Apple would consider this problem when they designed the new MacBooks. I shouldn't have to pay for something extra to make the form be functional.
For those who want to know: Found it on an online auction site (we all know which site i'm talking about). Under the title: MacBook Pro 15" sharp edge adhesive strip.
Hope this is useful for those going through the same problem I am.

Found it for cheaper at guardstrip dot com. Could have saved myself a couple of bucks. Guess everyone else who needs it will benefit from the savings but me. Enjoy!

  • What cable/adapter do I need to connect my MacBook Pro to a Sharp Aquos TV?

What cable/adapter do I need to connect my MacBook Pro to a Sharp Aquos TV?
I want to watch videos on youtube or read articles on my laptop, and I want a cable/adapter that will hook up the Macbook to the TV and display the webpage that is on the laptop.

Of course it doesn't. But you can buy an adaptor from HDMI to the Mini-DisplayPort port on the computer.

  • Unable to connect Macbook Pro to Sharp Aquos TV through thunderbolt HDMI

I have a brand-spanking new Macbook pro 15" Retina with Thunderbolt
A new moshi HDMI connector, and new MediaBridge hdmi cable connected to my Sharp Aquos TV and it's as if its not plugged in.
I've read a lot of helpful sites with instructions on how to do this and this just isn't working.
    What am I doing wrong?

If you cannot use nslookup <PrinterIP> and get a name back, Bonjour (aka mDNS) is being blocked by the router.

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.

  • Macbook Pro and 80 inch Sharp TV.

Has anyone connected a Macbook Pro to an 80 inch Sharp TV?
I am planning on getting that TV. It's the new 80LC875U.
I tried connecting to a new Sony TV but the TV supposedly has a low resolution pc input. The image was not clear and it was very pixilated.
I asked a Sharp representative and he said that their TVs can handle a 1080i/1080p input.
Is there any way or any confirmed TVs that can reproduce the exact picture you see on your macbook pro???
    What are the secrets????
    Thanx.

I think the secret is to not display the "exact picture you see on your mackbook pro". Displaying the exact picture, mirror mode, displays the picture and the computer's resolution. What you want to do is connect the computer to the TV using an HDMI cable for 1080 resolution on the TV using the TV's native resolution. Try using extended display mode.

  • MacBook Pro and Sharp XGA data projector

I have a new MacBook Pro and I cannot seem to get it to work with my Sharp data projector. When I set it up as I did my old Powerbook G4, the data projector shows part of my desktop and freezes: no icons and no cursor. Any ideas????

    Hi, Lorie,
You'll be more likely to get accurate suggestions if you ask in the MacBook Pro forum. This forum is for the Mac Pro, the pro desktop system. I know that it's easy to misread the forum titles when they're so close.
    Good luck.

  • Fuzzy edges and display of font, graphics and pics using Elements 12 on Macbook Pro retina 13"

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 13" retina display. The edges and display of font, graphics and pics in Elements12 are fuzzy. They werent like that on my old macbook that didnt have retina display.

Neither Photoshop Elements nor Premiere Elements support the retina display capabilities. There are a couple of feature requests for support to be added to Photoshop Elements but I don't find any for Premiere elements. You might care to open one at http://feedback.photoshop.com.

  • Macbook pro not seeing my sharp notevision projector . what to do

    help
macbook pro cant see sharp projector. What to look for to correct?

If you have not done so already, back up your data.  If your computer is under warranty, Apple will repair your computer for free.  If you are near to an Apple Store, make a reservation to visit a Genius, and have your computer checked out.

  • MacBook Design (sharp edges)

I have just bought my MacBook. I have be using it for two weeks approximately, but now my wrists are hurting me to much. Apparently my MacBook edges, specially those where my wrists lay down, are very sharp and hurts me. For my comfort I'm actually using a piece of cloth beneath my hands to ease the pain.
I don't know if there is a solution to this problem, beside the cloth and maybe a sandpaper.
Do anyone else have experienced this problem too?

What if I'm actually just resting my palms on it? I do type fairly "properly", e.g. hands raised, wrists not touching anything.
The sharp edges become an issue if I'm I'm just reading a page of text, and occasionally hit the space bar to advance the page. Surely no need for my hands to "hover"...
However, in the few weeks I've had my 'book I've somehow adapted to the edges and they no longer seem to bother me. It's mostly unconscious adjustments to keep the same spots on my palm/wrist from resting in the edges, as well as taking my hands entirely away from the computer.
