Sharp solid white type against black backgorund ...

I'm very new to PSE and also creating web pages.  I'm building a web page with Build Your Site.  I'm creating a file in PSE to put in the web site.  It will have a black background and the type will be white.  When I place it in the web page the type does not come out solid or sharp so it hard to read.  How can I create sharp, crisp type against a black background in PSE?  Thanks.

Thank you, and yes, I've been doing that and selecting a script font which is the one I want to use: Montez.   It is a sufficiently thick font yet, as you can see (hopefully in this screen shot), the white is not solidly white.  Is there a way of making the type more solidly white?  Or some other way to make this font more readable in white against black?

  • White type showing as black on officejet 8600

    Here is a good one...
Just purchased the new Officejet 8600 and everything appeared ok with the set up.  However, the first ID document I tried to print failed to print properly.
In the document, I have an number of black areas with white type.  When it prints, the white type changes to black and therefore cannot be seen.  In addition, this does not happen throughout the whole document.  There are sections that change to the color black and there are some that stay reversed.  To compound the issue, the color change is inconsistent within the same line of text  ????
I contacted HP and as usual they thought the issue is with the ID program.
This also happens when I tried to print old documents set up in Pagemaker.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jim

Thanks, I tried your suggestion and it worked !
I didn't think that would be the issue as some text still printed as white.
    Oh well...live and learn.

  • Webdynpro on loading shows a black and white type of screen

    Hi Gurus.
Don't know if anyone had this problem before.
Some of your webdynpros on running show a black & white type of screen with no background colors. Buttons are visible, but clicking on them nothing will happen. I don't know if you all understood what I am saying. Unfortunately I cannot attach screen shot
Basically the background becomes all white. No groups in blue color. No table lines.
It happens only intermittently, user refreshes, and it gets okay.
Anyone faced this problem before? If so, any solutions found for it?
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi Aishi,
the only other time I've seen something like this, has been when I've been messing around with the portal theme  (in that particular case I was trying to apply the portal theme to a BSP which had been called dynamically in the app and was not therefore correctly picking up the theme .)
That said - the problem was never intermittent for me then - either it worked or it didn't!
I'd be trying to find a way in which you could replicate the issue, (potentially clear all the cookies local files etc from a user's machine) and then putting a program like HTTPWatch on to check if there were issues picking up any particular files in the user's request.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Everything appears in reverse that is white type on a black page how can I fix this?

Using Acrobat reader 11.0.07 on a MacBook Air running 10.9.5.  Everything appears as white type on a black page.  It prints correctly but I cannot view it as anything but a negative.  How can I resolve this?

First thing I would try is to update to 11.0.09.
Does the same thing happen if you open the PDF in Adobe Reader?

  • Help me choose the right black for a background (white text on black BG)!

    Hi all!
I am polishing an InDesign document for a magazine. The cover will contain a big black surface with white texts on top (alongside a white surface with black texts/graphics on top and there is also a color bar on top of the black surface.)
I was warned that standard black will not work for the black background and I was advised to produce a 'cyan black' or a '4 colour black' instead.
The cover of the magazine will most likely be like a book cover: fairly thick white cardboard/paper with a coated job.
What exact color choice would you recommend knowing that the text color will be 'paper white'.
I now have this Pantone Black C (from the Pantone solid coated library): would it be good for this job? And what about the other black text and graphic elements on the white surface? Should they be from the same black?
I was hoping for the most straight forward and saff answere to this question as soon as  possible.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!
    Best.
    Nic

    I agree with Bob.
Generally, I do ask the printer. But usually I set up a rich black with 50% cyan and 100% black.
Adding more than Cyan to the Black can cause misregisteration issues, usually I stick to a 2 colour build for the Rich Black when knocking out White Text.
If your printer suggests differently then use what they have asked.
A few general rules of thumb:
Don't use thin serif fonts below 10pt - as the serifs have a chance of filling in.
Use a slightly bolder version of the font if one is available.
    Increase the kerning slightly.
Point size and and typeface is key to setting reversed out type. A font with thick hairlines will not break up as easily as one with thin hairlines. Italics tend to be problematic as in they can break up more easily than roman faces. Increasing the kerning here is vital as it prevents letters from joining up unintentionally.
When talking with the printers - let them know what type size and what font you're planning to use and if it will cause any issues with the print quality.

  • Overprint issue with white type.

We have been creating Digital PDF successfully for over 10 years. This is a problem that comes along once in a great blue moon.
Please read complete text before forming an opinion or answering the questions. The focus of these questions are on Digital AD's from outside vendors/customers.
We create our publications using Quark 6.5 on Windows XP
(We are locked into this version because of some other proprietary software tied into Quark, so upgrading Quark is not an option for us).
We compose a page of some type, some MAC EPS Illustrator 5.1  files and at least one Digital AD (PDF's which are  from our advertisers/customer that we pre-flight) on to the page.
Print the page to a postscript file, distill postscript file with Acrobat Distiller Ver. 7 on PC's into a PDF file with Crops and Registration Marks.
We got a PDF (Digital AD) from a customer that was created in InDesign CS6 on a Mac. There is some white type in the AD ( See Photo Below)
The Last "E" in Engineered is selected in each screen shot.
The Top one is the AD untouched before Pre-flighting it. The White Type "E" letter is set to knock out and is still type (not converted to outlines).
(Pitstop is showing this in the dialog box on the right)
In the Bottom screen shot the type has been converted to outlines and is set to overprint.
First problem is white type should never overprint. Unless you specifically set it to in the original program.
This type was originally set to knockout and then when it was distilled from a Postscript file from Quark into a PDF with "Preserve Overprint Settings" check in (Distiller Settings) the type is converted to outlines and the type was set to overprint.
(If I turn off "Preserve Overprint Settings" and re-distill the postscript file the type doesn't convert to outlines or change to overprint.... it remains a knockout.)
Second Problem is catching this while using preflight tools. I have Pitstop tools to show Overprinting and Acrobat has a Output Preview/Color Warnings/Show Overprinting feature too.
Using Pitstops Overprint does show it in the inspector window, but not a Pitstop report.
Acrobat's Show Overprinting does NOT show that the type has been set to overprint.
So our workflow now is to flag any white type and check it throughout the whole pre-press process to make sure the type holds the knockout function.
Below is a scan of how the type ran when it was printed on sheet feed printing press paper.
Talk about overprinting... this is not what it looked like in the above pictures.
I am aware of this problem from Illustrator. It's an order of operations when dealing with white type.
If you set type, change the color  to something other than 100% black and then convert it to outlines... it will knockout.
If you set type, convert to outlines and THEN change the color from black to white, it will hold the overprint from being black type.
It doesn't always do this every time, but it does happen enough that I have to double and triple check my white type.
    Questions:
Does anyone have this problem in their workflow (White Type Overprinting) and do you have a solution to better catch this when you have to process 50+ AD's each week?
Obviously anything with white type will be looked at much closer now that this AD got through. It would be nice if these settings would hold through the whole preflight to printed piece process.
Any Words of Wisdom would be appreciated too.

You can set Pitstop up to catch this and even fix it.
In the preflight profile, under 'Text', select 'White Text' and add it to the list of checks, you can also enable the fix as well so it's just resolved.
I'm using PitStop 11 update 2, but it's in earlier versions as well.
If you need futher information you can always drop me a mail. I am the Product Manager for PitStop, [email protected]

  • IBook flashing solid colors and goes black.  Can anyone please help?

    Hi there,
My 14-inch iBook has been flashing solid colors (green, red, blue, three different kinds of white) before going black for about a minute, and then start flashing again. I tried restarting repeatedly, and sometimes the normal screen would appear for about 1 minute before flashing colors again.
    Can anyone please help?
    iBook G4

Most likely its a problem with your logic board, specifically, the video memory. Apple has admited to this problem for the G3 ibook after a class action lawsuit was filed. My ibook, a g4 933mhz, which was made shortly after the computers that were part of this lawsuit has the problem. I stupidly paid apple $300 to fix the problem, because they told me that as long as the damage was not caused by me, then it could be fixed for $300. After i paid them and they shipped the laptop to their repair center, they called bacl to say that my logic board was damaged because i had spilled something on my keyboard, and that it would cost $700 to fix. I told them to ship it back, and of course they charged me $300 for nothing. I then tested the keyboard and inspected the laptop for this alleged "water damage" and found nothing. Apple offered no recourse to dispute their findings, and said that there were no problems with my laptops logic board that they were responsible for, despite the online petition having been signed over 700 times. They said that i could pay them an additional $70-$80 to have the apple store take my laptop apart and verify the water damage, and that it didnt guarentee anything, it would just make my case for demanding that the laptop be repaired stronger. Also, even though they orginally said that i had spilled something on the keyboard to cause the damage, when i told them that the keyboard was functioning, they said that i must have placed the laptop in water.
Here is the link to the online petition http://www.petitiononline.com/ibookg4/petition.html . Good luck with your laptop, obviously, unless yours is still under warrenty, i dont recommend sending it to apple for repairs. I should also note that they did originally think that my laptop was part of the problem batch when i brought it to the store, but after they checked the serial number and determined that it was not, then mysteriously the damage was caused by me, and they pocketed my $300.

  • Setting  a White Point and Black Point

I would like to suggest for future versions of lIghtroom to have an ability to set the white point and black points similar to levels and curves in Photoshop. This would be in addition to setting middle grey in the white balance settings currently in Lightroom.  I find that the method of using Threshold to find the closest white and black pixels and then using these points to set the black and white points in curves or levels provides a better way to fix a color cast than the methods available in Lightroom.

    MB,
There is no real need for Black and White point eyedropper type tools in Lightroom.  By holding down the Alt key while changing the Blacks or Exposure sliders the display will show the areas that are being clipped.  This is much faster than looking around for the darkest and lightest areas manually.  If you just like to click to taste (like using the White balance dropper) then forget the Alt key and just move the sliders until you get the desired look.
Remember that the problem with Photoshop is that there are so many ways to do the same thing that it has become difficult and bloated.  Lightroom strives to keep the interface as clear as possible.

  • Change Background to White & Text To Black

    Hello,
I am trying to use FCP7 to change my background to white (rather than black) and my text to white.
I used View -> Background -> White and then changed my text colour to white.
Everything seems fine in my timeline, and is rendered.
But when I go to Export video, the export has a blackbackground and no text.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marc

Thanks Nick, I asked a friend about Color Matte. You were right. The next step is chose Color Solid then change that color from blue to white. Then add a new track and insert slug with the white color matte and all is good! Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro will not sleep if inactive.  Indicator is solid white.

I've done a bit of troubleshooting without favorable results.  Here's the situation:  The Macbook will not go to sleep from inactivity.  If I close the lid it sleeps just fine, but it won't  if I set the computer to sleep after a period of inactivity.
Take this example.  Display sleep set to 10 min, computer sleep set to 15 min.  At 10 minutes the screen will go black and the indicator will become solid white.  At 15 minutes nothing changes and the computer will stay in this state perpetually.
I've rebooted the computer without opening any apps and this all still occurs.  I've also checked the system with "pmset -g" and everything looks good.  Here is the output from my most recent test.

  • Reverse white type on a colored background

Should I avoid creating a pdf document that has white type on a colored background? Will some home printers have trouble rendering the white type?

White on a colored T-shirt cannot be defined by
'paper white'. One needs an opaque ink.
    AI CS2:
    I've created a new swatch Spot1 by Lab=100,0,0
or for the first tests by Lab=90,0,0.
    Attributes > Overprint Fill.
The background (T-shirt) can be defined in CMYK or
    preferably by another Spot2.
The CMYK channels or this Spot channel are anyway
    ignored for printing.
    The separation is OK.
The text is not knocked out in the background and
Spot1 shows the text. But Spot1 is so far not opaque
    in the simulation.
In InDesign I would choose for this spot in the ink
    manager 'opaque'.
THEN the overprint preview is correct (in ID): white
opaque text on a black background.
Where is this ink manager feature in AI ?

  • I want to print grey type on black cover stock.

I want to print grey type on black cover stock.  I'd like the type to be the equivalent of a 20% grey in PhotoShop.  I'm told setting the black (K) to 20% won't work.  How then do I get my grey?

You have to be careful with drying times to avoid offset at the press.
And you also have to be mindful of reversing out type on a dark background.
It would look better if they used 50% Cyan and 100% Black - or 50% magenta would give a warmer hue to the black.
But that would make it easier to print the 20% gray into the white areas that remain.
And because it's going to knockout you have to be mindful of not using small type, thin fonts, or serifs as they could potentially fill in.
It's also wise to add a bit of extra tracking to the letters to separate them a bit more so that it doesn't break away on the plate.
For digital reproduction you don't need to worry about most of those - but if it's a large print run then printing digital is going to be very expensive. For short print runs it may not be.
But for digital large areas of ink coverage are prone to streaking and you may not get the desired effect.
    In short
If it's a large print run talk to your printers about the best practice for setting up your Rich Black and caveats that interfer with your legibility of the text on the front cover.
It's a short print run consider having the cover screen printed rather than digitally printed.

  • IPhone Solid White Screen

I had been having some software issues with my iPhone and decided to restore it using iTunes. The phone reset and started syncing all of my apps and contacts back on. I walked away and came back about ten minutes later and the screen had turned a solid white. The phone was non-responsive and was not showing up in iTunes. So I hard reset it using the power and home buttons, the screen went black. Now the phone will not turn on. I tried plugging it into my iMac again and it won't recognize the phone, nor will the phone respond. I also tried plugging it into a power outlet and the phone still won't respond. Please help!

My Iphone screen went solid white last night and i was worried that i had killed it because i was at a pool. However, later i felt the phone vibrating so i picked it up and accidentally swiped across the screen (apparently where the unlock slide is) and i started to hear someone talk on the speaker phone. Now i can receive calls and guess my way to my ipod. So the screen itself is either the part that is messing up or the part of the electronics that controls the imaging. I have tried all the different functions i can to reset it: reset, reboot, hard reset and none of them work making me think that its not software but hardware. Going to genius bar today to have it looked at. I'll update this as soon as i get an answer.

Did you use the two-button combo press to reset it? Follow this procedure for your iPod type.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If you did that already or it does not help, you may need to do a Restore in iTunes on the iPod. This will erase the iPod and initialize its software. Then you can re-sync it from your iTunes library.
