SHARPEN VIDEO FOR WEBSITE USE

Hi all,
I've got a couple of instruction films made from recorded computer screens. My task is to change the language for these. I use Premiere Pro 6.0.
THE MAKING
A "light" compression was used when recording, giving sharp images, that accepted a low frame rate (even though it says 20, it's maybe 2-3 frames per second).
Then the films were saved with good compression, that still gives sharp images.
THE EDITING
MP4
In .mp4 which I hear is the best format to use for webpages, the imported image gets blury.
What kind of parametres do I have to change to get a sharper image?
AVI
I then asked to have it in .avi but this doesn't work at all, error message when importing.
What should I do to make the moving shots originating from screens sharp again?
They are sharp when I look at them in Windows media player.
Many thanks,
F

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • What is the best way to export a video for broadcast using FCE?  H264?

I need to get the best quality HD video for broadcast using final cut express and I need to know all info and settings please?

    Hello,
You need to find out from the broadcaster what specs they require you to meet.  H.264 is probably not it.

  • Konqueror browser for Linux has an useful CPU limitation feature for websites using Flash content. Can you add such a feature in Firefox?

I have recently found that Konqueror browser for Linux can help user to limit cpu usage while visiting a website using flash technology by changing settings in the Flash section and adjusting the slider from VERY HIGH settings to HIGH and MEDIUM and so on. It actually works, and it does not have a direct impact on the general performance for flash player but it may generate some conflicts if other extensions such as add-blocker or click-to-flash are enabled also.
Maybe you can add a similar setting in Firefox in the browser option section or just as an useful addon or extension.

Sorry for being late with my reply. I've just tested that addon that you mentioned in your post ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../system-monitor/ ) , it looks like a system monitor and nothing more than that.
As for the memory tip ( about:memory ) I agree that it can be extremely useful for users that have less than 1 gb memory installed on their system. I know very little about computers but I can tell your tip for optimizing memory usage in firefox has merits.
Me, I have another problem with cpu overload in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and most of the browsers with flash support enabled. Each and every time time I visit a page that features all sort of adds and gadgets based on flash technology, and each time I try to watch a video online my cpu goes all the way up to 100% and stays there until i finally decide to close the browser.
I am running winxp and also linux on a Dell Optiplex GX260 machine with 2000 MHz cpu, 1024 Mib ram and 128 Mib video card, it is not the best computer in the world but still 2000 MHz should be enough for a limited and uneventful web experience.
It is not as much an issue with the web browser, any browser, the whole problem is caused by funny people claiming to be deeply involved with web development, and promoting flash technology for ages instead of choosing other alternatives, more user friendly. All I am saying is that flash ruined the entire web experience making people to believe that they actually need dual-core cpu and coreduo and deepfreeze cpu and so on which is only partially true.
I always get better results for cpu usage when watching online videos that use media player as default player and not flash player, and my cpu stays below 70% usage which is not much but still it is not 100% usage.
Konqueror offered me a nice surprise, and I was able to limit cpu usage once I moved that slider from Very High setttings for flash player to Medium settings. I got something between 80-90% cpu usage as a result, and I was very pleased to finally see a working solution to my problem at least for linux if not for windows.
The only other browser that I can use for windows only, which handles both flash player and cpu usage well is Kmeleon browser which is a long forgotten project but does offer nice features once you find some plugins that it needs to make it come to life again.

  • Compression tecniques for website use urgently needed

    Hi there
I am creating short movies (about 2-5 mins) in Imovie HD and i want them to be downloadable from my website as a file (not streamed etc). I want the picture quality to be very good but the sound can be mono as its not as important. I need to keep file sizes to about 20mb or less. I am told that 320 x 240 is the size to go for websites - is that true?
My problem is that both PC and Mac users will be wanting to download the movies so compatability is very important. What file type should i go for (mpg, mov, avi, wmv) and what compression should i choose for the best cross platform compatability?
If anyone can help, i would be so grateful. If anyone has any good settings that they have tried and tested - that would be fantastic.
    Many, many thanks
    Daniel

I would create .mov ..that's to say QuickTime.. files: every Mac user has QuickTime on their machine, and Windows users often already have it, or can be guided to simply download it.
I've tried an assortment of compression codecs, and have found that a 'hardwired' codec-in-a-chip, rather than using software to compress, gives the fastest and sharpest results. So I run my mini-movies through an Archos recorder/player (..predecessor of the video iPod..) which encodes all incoming video in DivX format.
This plays great in QuickTime, except for the sound, which is - by default - hidden. So I run the resultant small video file through a little free program called 'DivX Validator', which resets the sound to the proper QuickTime format.
I then post that 'validated' compressed file on the web (..on my Homepage..) and it's playable by all versions of QuickTime, both old and new. [NOTE that only the latest QuickTime 7 seems to be able to play back videos encoded through the recent QT 7 H.264 hi-quality codec ..but DivX looks just as good, and can be played in any QT versions.]
Here's what a DivX-encoded movie looks like.. [This is a still slideshow burned to a DVD ..when it starts.. not moving video, and DivX really does justice to the hi-quality stills. And as DivX produced a small file size, it can be downloaded quickly!]
Other people will probably have other recommendations..

  • Compressing video for iPod using QuickTime 7 Pro ("expert")

    Hi all,
I purchased QuickTime 7 Pro thinking I would be able to compress 640x480 H.264 video for an iPod. I have a specific application that requires precise control over the compression -- that is, the no-option "Movie to iPod" export setting ain't gonna cut it.
I have tried many, many different setting combinations using "Movie to MPEG-4" and "Movie to QuickTime Movie" under "File" --> "Export" in QuickTime, and I have been careful to limit sizes and bitrates per iPod tech specs as published on the Apple Web site. However, while all of the H.264 files I have output will open in iTunes, none of them will sync to my iPod. Videos I output using standard MPEG-4 compression will sync to my iPod (and look awful), but videos using H.264 will not.
Does anyone know what settings I can use to export 640x480 H.264 video to my iPod, and how I can have more control over the process than just "Movie to iPod?"
    Thanks!
    -- Joey
What I got (the technical details):
WinXP Pro with all the latest updates on Intel
    5G 60GB iPod w/ firmware ver 1.2
    QuickTime 7.1.3 Pro
    iTunes 7.0.1.8
multiple Wintel machines   Windows XP Pro

    Welcome to the discussions, Joeysirmons.
The developer that created VisualHub (Only for the Mac) has discovered how to create iPod compatible 640x480 video where the user has full control over the compression. The changes he made were to some public libraries so these methods should be finding their way to the ffmpeg based tools for Windows soon.

All kind of help is appreciated since I already spent more than a day trying to get this to work.

Even Main Profile, Level 3.1 (compressed with AME CS5) works in the real thing when embedding according to my "reports".

  • How/Where to make Drawing/Sketch Video for Website

I am brand new to all Adobe applications but have the CS5 Master Suite and have been taking many courses through Lynda.com for months.  I wish to learn how to make a small video of an object being sketched.  That is use a drawing tablet and stylus (whatever they are called...I have NO idea) and trace over a photo.  When finished I wish to have the video of the slowly created tracing of the object sped up and when complete fade away and the actual photograph of the object traced overlap fade into view. In other words use this as a transition technique for presenting a photograph of an object rather then just have it "pop" onto the screen.  My questions are: (1) What special drawing pad and stylus are required (if any....can I do it with just the mouse?) (2) Is Flash Professional the program one would use to make such a video?  If not which Adobe program is best suited to this task, and (3) Is there a NAME to this "technique" in whatever program was given in answer to question two so I know where to begin and/or look for a tutorial on how to accomplish this technique?  (I am assuming that describing how to do this is too tedious a task for this forum.  If I am mistaken please tell me.)  Thank you.

You could get a Wacom tablet and draw over your photo in Photoshop and record the process using a screen recorder application. I'm much too lazy to do that sort of thing. Do a google search on sketch effect in Photoshop. You'll find a whole long list of tutorials that will show you various ways to achieve the sketch version of your photo. You'll find that you can get greater and lesser levels of detail by changing the settings of the filters used in the process. You can save each one of these variations to a different layer in Photoshop. You can use these layers as the development of the sketch version of the photo.
Each layer can then be imported into Flash. You can then to the animation in Flash.
Does that help to get you started?

  • Can I use iMovie to create a video for youtube using an MP3  and a video?

I have some music I've recorded on Logic Pro that I'd like to post on youtube and am trying to figure the easiest way to link it with either still photos or a video so it'd be OK for youtube. What's the best way to go about this please?

just drag 'n drop your jpg and your mp3 into the timeline of your Project - done.
Depending on what version of iM you're using, you can directly upload from within iMovie, or you have to export first, then use YT's upload web interface ...
in case you own a licence of Quicktime Pro,  open a jpg with it, open in a 2nd window your mp3, select all, copy, paste to picture - done .. no 'fullsize editor' needed.

  • Settings for the best QT video for web use

I hope you didn't look here thinking I had them.
I don't but I want to know them.
I see great looking quicktime videos that perform automatically and perfectly all the time but I can't seem to make them.
Two of the best are Lynda.com and DigitalJuice.com.
Their videos play instantly, you can push the cursor to the end and the data is there. They just work great, but they are both unwilling to share what they do other than saying it's a combination of Sorenson and Quicktime.
Why is this such a closely guarded secret? I understand that it often takes weeks to uncover this combination on your own, but I've never seen this unwillingness to share in this community any stronger than in these two web sites.
Thay talk all around it but they just won't tell.
I'm hoping someone here might look at their sites and their movies and figure it out and then share it with the rest of us.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

But the file sizes are a little bigger then what I thought they would be, the videos are generally around 5 minutes, were green screened so there is some compositing work going on in the timeline and the file sizes are generally around 40mbs....I feel like I can get those down so any help you guys can give me would be amazing!

The 512K setting with a 2Pass encode (using On2's Flix Pro) gives me
files sizes about half of what your getting. I don't tweak anything more
than that because there really doesn't seem any need to.
(I am assuming that the size matters because you intend for web delivery

  • Compressing video for website background images

I'm building a website and hoping to have a web video play underneath a screen on the home page. The sample 11 second file on our template is an mp4 file at 1280 by 720, but it's onlye 340KB. Using media encoder I was only able to compress our 15 second clip in an mp4 format to a whopping 18 megabytes. Clearly I'm setting something improperly. I encoded using the Vimeo setting. How can I use media encoder to create such a small video file? Thanks.

Found one way to reduce the 18 mb file to 3 mb. I imported the MP4 into Photoshop then exported to Adobe Media Encoder at "low resolution." I couldn't find comparable settings in Adobe Media Encoder through the direct interface, so this means it must be possible to compress farther with this tool. Any additional ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

  • Saving HD video for Computer use and possible later burn?

I have a Canon HF-10 shooting AVCHD.  I would like to edit and save projects at the highest possible quality to view on my 1080p TV.  However, I would like to store the files on my computer where I have a backed up HD.  I'd also like to be able to watch the files on the computer if I want (at HD quality).  Are there export settings that can act as an "all-in-one" while maintaining a very high quality?
For TV playback I'm thinking of using something like a Western Digital HD Media Player which can play files off a HD (specs say they support: Video -MPEG1/2/4, WMV9, AVI (MPEG4, Xvid, AVC), H.264, MKV, MOV (MPEG4, H.264), MTS, TP, TS)

Windows Media Player may have issues with the file extension... you can try to play them if it says it does not recognise the extension say play anyway.
Otherwise download the freeware Media Player Classic:

  • Is there support coming for websites using Flash?

Is there support coming for IPAD2 owners to use websites which require Flash? It appears to be growing into somewhat of an industry standard.

You guys are so angry that you can't get Flash support, and so desperate for it to go away so you're no longer missing out on great content that you miss-read, and miss-inform everyone every chance you get.
    News Flash -
Convincing Apple product owners that Flash's days are numbered doesn't make it true, nor does posting pre-written anti-flash posts into every flash thread.
    Facts are -
Adobe has released the Flash Player API to Mobile device manufacturers. Because it was to big a taqsk for Adobe to continue to release new versions for every hardware configuration. Adobe is leaving that task now up to the manufacturers of the deviecs.
RIM, and Qualcomm have both agreed to continue porting the Flash player to future devices. No other manufacturers have come out as to which side of the fence they are on yet, mainly because Adobe has agreed to support Android 4.0, which will keep mobile flash alive and under Adobe control for at least 1 more year.
After Android 4.0, sometimes in late 2013 we will find out what manufacturers will continue to include flash in their arsenal.
Adobe brought the mobile flash player to version 11, so that it supports stagevideo and stage3d plus hardware acceleration. Adobe feels there is no need to develop the mobile player any further outside of bug fixes and security updates.
Developing the mobile version past version 11 does not make sense to adobe. However, Flash player 11 supports all previous flash content, as well as new things being created like stage3d and stagevideo.
It makes perfect sense to leave it ot the manufacturers of the devices to port the flash player over, and again, we already have two mobile companies agreeing to do just that.
You guys ahve been saying flash is dead and un-needed since 2010 when Steve Jobs wrote his open letter. Many of you are now on your 2nd ipad, about to be the 3rd.
I predict that if fash ever does actually die completely, it will be sometimes around the ipad version 30 release, the year 2035.
Good luck though on your war... hope it doesn't turn out like Apple's hd-dvd did.
