Sharpness detection

How amazing would it be if LR could detect which areas of a photo are sharpest and highlight them (much like it can do with highlights and shadows.  Seems like this could be related to the edge detection that LR uses for masking, etc.  This would be so helpful when scanning through large numbers of photos for proofing, etc.

Great Idea.
I second that.
But I guess we'd have to give Adobe some idea what data we'd like to track.
I would like fields for the following data: Name of client, name of publication, media, ad / date of sale / size of image (spread, f/p, 1/2 p. etc), sale price (?).

  • HDMI output not working after 1.0.8.6067 update on sharp LCD TV's

Have three TV's two of which are Sharps Aquos and the other is a Samsung. After updating to 1.0.8.6067 the Playbook cannot detect the two Sharps(each different model #'s) . I have three different cables that worked fine before the update and all three cables still work perfectly with the Samsung TV. This issue has been giving me trouble from when i got the device. I even sent the unit back to RIM and of course it was no fault found. About a month ago it suddenly started to work on the Sharps. i've been using the playbook daily on these TV's without incident until the latest software update. It now only works on the Samsung. Obviously something is going on with the playbook HDMI software driver. RIM support was unable to get it working reliable during my 3 month support window. Of course it started to work on the last day of my support but the recent update has put me back to square one. Any suggestions?

I have not had any issue with any brand TV yet
I dont remember if I tried a sharp on not. I do know that teh several Samasung ones worked fine.

  • Problem connecting MacBook to a Sharp video projector

One of the great things I like about Macs is the easy way they (usually) connect to a video projector. Unlike a lot of my friends who run PCs with Windows I never had any problems whatsoever connecting my MacBook to a projector at the university and start my presentations.
    Until today that is.
I tried to connect my MacBook with Apple's mini-DVI to VGA adapter to a Sharp ("Notevision") video projector and although the MacBook had the projector (even with its correct name "PG-M20X" and available resolution settings) listed under "Displays" immediately, I couldn't get the projector to show any more than "no signal" whatever input source I chose...
What did I do wrong? Or is it the projector that is somehow "incompatible"?! Please help!

MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Core Duo 2GHz, July 2006

Maybe this could help as well:
After we tried several things with the MacBook (reboot, "detect displays" etc.), we successfully connected a Powerbook (15", FireWire 800, late 2003) to the projector, using Apple's DVI-VGA Adapter.
So that did work out fine, but the MacBook didn't work on the projector. The cable that came with the projector was a VGA--DVI-A cable: there were only a few pins on the DVI-end of it going into the DVI-Connector on the projector. Could it have something to do with that? But why didn't the Powerbook have any problems connecting to the projector then?

Is the monitor working? Tried its self-test?
    Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)
Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
Turn off both your computer and monitor.
Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital (white connector) and the Analog(blue connector) cables from the back of the computer.
    Turn on the monitor.

  • XML parser not detecting character encoding

    Hi,
I am using Jdeveloper 9.0.5 preview and the same problem is happening in our production AS 9.0.2 release.
The character encoding of an xml document is not correctly being detected by the oracle v2 parser even though the xml declaration correctly contains
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
instead it treats the document as UTF8 encoding which is fine until a document comes along with an extended character which then causes a
    java.io.UTFDataFormatException: Invalid UTF8 encoding.
    at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLUTF8Reader.checkUTF8Byte(XMLUTF8Reader.java:160)
    at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLUTF8Reader.readUTF8Char(XMLUTF8Reader.java:187)

    at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParser.parse(XMLParser.java:144)
as you can see it is explicitly casting the XMLUTF8Reader to perform the read.
I can get around this by hard coding the xml input stream to be processed by a reader
    XMLSource = new StreamSource(new InputStreamReader(XMLInStream,"ISO-8859-1"));
however the manual documents that the character encoding is automatically picked up from the xml file and casting into a reader is not necessary, so I should be able to write
    XMLSource = new StreamSource(XMLInStream)
Does anyone else experience this same problem?
having to hardcode the encoding causes my software to lose flexibility.
    Jarrod Sharp.

An XML document should be created with 'ISO-8859-1' encoding to be parsed as 'ISO-8859-1' encoding.

  • Macbook won't detect an external display

Recently I decided to attempt to connect my Macbook to my new Sharp LCD TV. I have a mini DVI to DVI cable and then a DVI to VGA. When I hook up my Mac, nothing comes up. The television similarly displays 'No Signal'. The screen on the macbook goes blue briefly and then back to normal, but nothing has been detected. I've tried to use Detect Display but nothing happens. Do I need better cables? There's an HDMI port as well as the VGA port on Sharp TV do you think that would work better?
Any help would be much appreciated!

The Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter can only pass digital signals, not analog ones. So trying to use another cable or adapter to go to VGA won't work. Since you already have the DVI adapter, you could get a DVI to HDMI cable and try that.

  • Detect display when waking from sleep?

Is there any way to force the display detection when waking from sleep? I find that if the mini wakes before the monitor is on, i get a blank screen. When the monitor is on before waking, everything is normal.
I have the DVI-Detective, and the problem is actually worse when using it -- nothing is detected when waking up, no matter if the display is on or not.
    My specs:
    OS 10.5
    C2D, 2Ghz - 2GB RAM
    Sharp Aquos 52inch
All standard HD resolutions work fine - it's just now a matter if figuring out how to force the mini to detect the display...
Surely there must be a way to do this?

Great that you got it working. It seems what is happening when the TV is switched off is that the Mac can no longer see the EDID data. Basically, it's the same as if a hot-unplug event had occurred from OS X's perspective. The mini thinks the TV's video cable has been unplugged, so it thinks it is running headless, which of course it is not. And for some reason not completely clear to me, when the TV's power is restored, a hot-replug event is not triggered and the mini still thinks it's running headless. Maybe you are right that it is removed from the list of connected devices for good. But it isn't supposed to work like that.
The DVI Detective is the right tool for the job in cases like this, so it's good you have one and it's good you got it working. I agree it would be nice if there was more override control within OS X for times like this when things go wrong. But if more TV and 2nd/3rd tier monitor makers paid more attention to computer plug-and-play, then these things would work right in the first place. Your TV is in violation of the plug-and-play standard because the standard calls for the host (Mac mini in this case) to be able to power the ROM and I2C bus within the TV even if the TV is in a powered down state. Clearly your TV isn't doing this.

  • SHARP 32D4U & MacMini DuoCore via HDMI

Wow, when I asked the Apple salesperson before I purchased the MacMini, he assured me that the display would come out crystal clear without issues.
Unfortunately that's not the case as I'm sure a lot of people are having with the overscan and black display bars.
Now I downloaded and played with DisplayConfigX, but I can't seem to find the settings for my T.V.
The Sharp LCD I'm running is capable of 1366x768 but it is currently being forced to run at 1280.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A SIMILIAR SETUP TO ME AND HAS GOTTEN THE IMAGE TO RUN AT 1366x768?
Please, I'm seriously considering returning the Mini on the fact that I was mislead to believe that I would be able to utilize my LCD TV. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Well - no help here either, but more of the same.
I connected the Mini to a JVC LT32A-61SU through DVI, and got 1280x720 as resolution. In itself, this is good enough for my use, intends to stit with some distance to the screen. But there is still one pretty annoying issue; the screen coverage.
My JVC TV is obviously one of the "good" ones, as it is detected by the Mini with at least the correct name. But the top gry bar (I´m new to Mac) is not visible (above the screen), resulting in several "shots in the dark" when I try to do configurations.
Now, I have discovered a way to see it a gain, namely to go into the "options" menu on the display particulars, and switch off the "overscan" feature. Then I get a picture that resembles what others are complaining about, with black secors surrounding the picture. And the picture quality is much poorer. Hardly satisfying.
Have as well played around with SwitchResX Control, but no success.
And I whom am converting to Mac to reduce my need for fiddling with drivers!
Is it the Intel desease that is spreading?

  • SHARP TV won't display MacBook.

I use my SHARP tv as a monitor for my MacBook often and I've never had an issue. I just use the HDMI port on the TV.
Now, the TV won't display anything. Everything is plugged in properly, and the Mac even responds as if it is plugged into the TV... So, it seems to detect the Sharp TV. However, the TV isn't responding at all. It still responds to the DVD player, etc. on the other inputs, just not to the Mac. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

How are you getting from miniDVI to HDMI? (adapter(s) type?)
Have you been able to test your macbook on another tv (or DVI monitor?)
It could be a software thing (e.g. related to a system update) as in this thread:

  • Mackbook Pro to Sharp Aquos

    Hello,
I recently bought a 42" Sharp Aquos and a DVI->HDMI adapter with HDMI cable. However, Leopard does not recognize the TV when I plug it in to my macbook pro and the screen on the TV remains black. The cable/adapter/TV combo work fine when it's plugged into my linux machine and I did get it to work once on my MBP after it had been plugged into the linux machine and everything was fine until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. After I plugged it back in I couldn't get the mac to display on the tv or to even recognize that it was plugged into the TV for that matter (It doesn't acknowledge a second display). Just as a point of information, when it did work, Leopard detected the TV as a Sharp and resolution and color were perfect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried plugging in another display, like a computer monitor that has a DVI input, to test the DVI output on the MacBook? I would try that to confirm the port on the MB is working at all.
You could also try the usual resets to see it that helps.

  • Which windows event is triggered by secondary display device detection

I want to schedule a windows task to run when a secondary output device (e.g., VGA monitor or HDMI A/V receiver is turned on or off)
but I'm not sure which event should be used for this. I found something related to network cable plug/unplug here How
to launch a command on network connection/disconnection? basically, the event is
    Log: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile/Operational
    Source: NetworkProfile
    Event ID: 10000
for connect and 10001 for disconnect
but couldn't find anything for external audio/video devices. Any such event or events exist? If not,
any other way to do this? Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
I have an LED monitor/TV connected to VGA port and an AV receiver connected to HDMI. The problem is that whenever there's video re-configuration (e.g., VGA cable connect, monitor turned on, AV receiver turned on or off, HDMI cable connect/disconnect) the
monitor will try to automatically adjust the picture h-position and v-position and it always fails (picture is shifted few inches both horizontally and vertically) and I have to manually adjust h and v positions every time. The only exception that the monitor
would auto adjust correctly is when the video re-configuration occur while the displayed picture is blank. The monitor is 1080p and windows is configured to send 1080p to external monitor. If I send 720p, the picture auto adjust works OK.
I realize this could be a problem with the monitor, but on my older Windows XP, the display driver (Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family) could be configured to adjust video signal low-level controls (h-sync, v-sync, timing, etc.) and I used those
to set the right values for this monitor so that auto adjust always work for 1080p. However for Windows 8, the display driver (same laptop as used with XP) does not provide any of the low-level controls.
My approach was to use the task scheduler to display a blank image when video re-configuration is detected and remove it few seconds afterwards, but I need the event triggered by this re-configuration process. Connecting the monitor using HDMI works OK for
1080p but the picture doesn't look as sharp as with VGA besides if I do that, I can't connect the AV receiver.
    Thanks

  • Cannot detect forward/reverse limits

I'm having trouble with the forward and reverse limit switches for my stepper motor system. When I create an NI Softmotion axis in Labview, no matter how I configure the limit switches, they either show up as both active or both inactive, regardless of the position of the platform. For my limit switches, I am using photointerrupters. When I do not have any of the hardware turned on, the photointerrupters work as expected and give a 0 V signal when the platform is not at the limit and gives a 5 V signal when the platform is at the limit. But when I try to use the interactive panel in Labview (or in a VI for that matter too) the limits aren't detected and behave differently as well. I had a voltmeter hooked in to see how the voltage was behaving and the voltage readings were odd. In one case when I tested each switch's "active" signal, one of the limit switches was at 6.7 V and the other was at 3.7 V even though they had the exact same wiring and setup. I am completely stumped on how to wire these into the system to make them work or how to configure Labview in order to correctly recognize these limits (Meaning sourcing vs. sinking and active state being on/off). I have searched forums and manuals, but I cannot seem to find a solution. Here are more details on the system:
The stepper motor is moving a platform back and forth and the stepper motor is being driven by a Kollmorgen P70530 stepper drive. To communicate between the stepper drive and the computer, I am using a cRIO 9076 with a NI 9512 in the chassis. To connect the limit switches into the system, I have been using the NI 9512 37-pin terminal block. The photo interrupter that I am using is a Sharp GP1A05 OPIC Photointerrupter with Connector. For this photointerrupter, it has 3 pinouts: a Vcc (voltage source) input, a GND input, and a Vout output. The Vcc is supposed to be connected to a 5V source and GND to ground (obviously) with a pull-up resistor between Vcc and Vout (I am using a 10k Ohm resistor as that has what has worked for me in the past with this specific photointerrupter). Vout is supposed to give a 5V signal when the limit would be active and 0V when it isn't active. The way I had connected the photointerrupter to the 37-pin terminal block was as follows: For the forward limit, I had Vcc in pin 9 (+5V OUT), GND was in pin 3 (COM), and Vout was in pin 1 (Forward Limit). For the reverse limit, I had Vcc in pin 9 (+5V OUT), GND was in pin 24 (COM), and Vout was in pin 20 (Reverse Limit). I have also tried connecting the GND terminals of the photo interrupter into the GND (Shield) pin on the terminal block with no success either. As for Labview, I am running Labview 2011 SP1 on my computer.
If you have any insights, I would greatly appreciate it if you would share them as I am truly stumped with something that seems on the surface to be quite trivial.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • PDF on Preview only sharp during scrolling

    Hello,
I use Yosemite and Preview for reading PDFs. I have this issue, that whenever I scroll the pages in single side or double side mode the font gets much sharper than when I do not touch the trackpad.  In continuous scrolling mode, even when zoomed to similar small size (1 page per screen), I get a clear font. I tried switching off font smoothing in OS X settings and also in Previews´s settings. When I disable smoothing in Previews I get a totally other look, which is the worst off all. Best readability is only when a start scrolling and keep the trackpad touched with both fingers so it stays in scrolling mode. Any hints to get it looking always like this?
    Regards,
    Nikolaj

After weeks of dealing with this, I think I found the solution - disable internet auto-detect:
    Open Adobe Reader
    Go to Edit menu>Preferences
    Click Internet, then Internet Settings
    Click LAN Settings
Uncheck the box “Automatically detect settings”
Click OK buttons and close Adobe
PDF files can now be previewed by regular users. This is a profile specific setting, so each user will need to apply it unless a gpo will work. It's also the default setting when a user logs in the first time, so each new user will have to set.
