Shattered screen

My son just opened his iPad Air which is in a protective case and the screen is shattered?  He has apple care and it is still under warranty.  Is this covered? If not how much is a replacement screen?

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
Generally, the warranty will apply to the country of purchase. And if there is a problem needing repair you have to return it to the country of purchase.

  • Is there any way to restore an iPhone with a shattered screen, broken home button, with a passcode and no access to computer most recently synced with?

I have an iPhone with a completely shattered screen (the display wont even show up, just a black screen), the home button does not work. I have a passcode on the device, but I have not synced the device with my current PC (I got a new computer and don't have any of my syncs from my old computer). I recieved my replacement device today, and want to back up the iphone before I activate the new device - but I get prompted to put in my code on the phone before it will allow me to back it up. As the display is completely black and does not appear to respond to touch, and the home button is broken so I cannot put it in recovery mode... What do I do? If I took the phone in to my carrier's store, would they be able to override the passcode and put my information on my new device?

Sorry, no. Given the present state of your phone, your data is unrecoverable.

  • Can you replace a shattered screen without having to replace the phone?

Can I replace a shattered screen without having to replace the phone?

    Step 1 go to amazon.com
Step 2 type (" your idevice" screen & digitizer) make sure you get the tools and adhesive.
Step 3 buy and youtube instructions on how to do it
It will end up costing you around $40 plus about ten minutes of work.

  • Shattered screen, passcode not working, can't use cloud to restore

I shattered my iPhone 5s screen (ios8). Tried to back my data up to an old iPhone4 (ios6).  I can't back up via the cloud because the phone I'm baking up to is running an older version of iOS than the phone with my data on it.  I'm trying to back up from iTunes but can't b/c I can't enter my passcode on the shattered screen.  I only have backups on the cloud.  I have never backed this phone up to my computer.  Because I was told iCloud back ups were good enough.  But now I'm stuck in a catch 22.

Even if you had backups in iTunes, you would not be able to restore them to the iPhone 4 - you would run into the issue of it running the older version of iOS either way.
You can restore a backup made with an older iOS to a phone running a newer one but cannot go the other direction.
You will need to get your 5S repaired/replaced so you can restore your data.

  • Shattered Screen on 3G PLEASE HELP

I recently dropped my iPhone and the screen shattered, however my phone still works perfectly. I am not eligible for an upgrade but the phone needs to be replaced as I already cut myself on the shattered screen. I took it to the Apple store and the employee stated I would just have to buy a new one. AT&T says I have to pay full retail for a new phone! Does anyone know if the screen can be repaired? My iPhone is less than 1 year old and I hate to have to buy other one, especially at full retail. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Janine- I just had mine replaced- I called apple care- let them know that I had a hairline crack that spread- eggshelled and now I cannot use the phone with out a screen protector or I will cut my finger as the glass had chards. they immediately determined it is a safety issue and set me up for an appt at the local apple genius bar for a screen replacement- took about 5 minutes and I have a new screen. they do not swap out the phones, only the screen. But its like having a brand new phone! I do want to mention that This is my second cracked screen- the first time I had to pay for a new Iphone, full price, so they have changed policy along the way. The Iphone that they just replaced the screen on was 6 months old. So if your within your warranty period- call apple care first and explain the safety issue- GOOD LUCK!!

  • Completely operational iPhone went into Apple store to repair shattered screen.  IPhone came out with shattered screen and completely inoperable.  What happened?

Completely operational iPhone went into Apple store to repair shattered screen.  IPhone came out with shattered screen and completely inoperable.  What happened or happens in the back room?

Thanks.  That kind of confirms.  I was able to get the phone home and restore it.  The Genius was unable to restore.  Maybe there is a connector problem? Now there is a working phone again, still with a shattered screen.  Any suggestions for what's next?

  • HELP, my silent button is jammed but I have a shattered screen

My silent button is jammed so I can't change it to off silent but I have a shattered screen, can I ask Apple to repair my button? I still am under warranty

Apple doesn't repair phones, they replace them.  Your warranty is void since the screen is shattered (user abuse).  Out of warranty replacement for an iPhone 5 is $229, unless you had purchased AppleCare+ at the time of the phone purchase, in which case you pay $49.

  • Does AppleCare cover shattered screens?

Does Apple Care covered shattered screens?

No, the basic warranty does not cover any accidental damage, damage from abuse or mis-use.  The normal AppleCare extended warranty also does not cover such events.
If you have AppleCare+ you do have two accidental damage claims, for (I think) $79.00 a claim now?  But only AppleCare+ includes any accidental damage coverage.

  • How much does it cost to replace a shattered screen for an iPad 2

How much does it cost to repair a shattered screen on a IPad 2?

It will cost you approximately US$249
Apple will replace the entire iPad; they don't repair.

  • Shattered Screen and Broken Camera Worth Repairing?

I've had my original iPhone since the week of it's release and never had a problem with it until I dropped it down the stairs of my house last year.
When it finally came to rest at the bottom of the stairs it suffered a shattered screen and broken camera.
Everything else has worked perfectly fine and I've been able to continue using it despite it's shattered screen while I've looked for a job.
With a new job and some cash in my wallet I'm looking to fix this phone disaster.
Now while I know purchasing a 3G phone for $99 is cheaper than having my 2G repaired, I just can't seem to want to part with my AT&T plan.
I have such a great deal going being under a family plan that if I change to the 3G my bill monthly will close to double.
Over time I'll save more money just repairing it than purchasing the 3G for $99 and getting ripped off with AT&T's plan for it.
My question is does Apple still do repairs on their original phones?
Or would I have to go about finding the parts and repairing it myself?

You could also look at second-hand original phones on eBay or somesuch.
There are also third-party services--google "iphone repair" or something.
Also, are you sure about the plan? AT&T currently does not give discounts on multiple data plans within a family--did they with the original iPhone? The difference for data and 200 texts with a 3G/3GS should be $15/month (plus tax).
Also, I would not buy the 3G, if you do go that route. You'll get much more for your $35/month by spending a bit more upfront on the 3GS, especially since you seem to be a person who is happy to keep a phone for a long time.

  • Mother of broken, no shattered screen.

Well I guess there is more than just my daughter in the world that has one of these ipod's with shattered screen and still using it. Apple will not cover accident's (which when it comes to these ipods you are bound to crack, chip, shatter, etc..) cause they would probably go out of business. The fact that I bought extended warranty at store I got ipod from just for "accidents" and they tell me that warranty doesn't cover it, I would have to call apple. Who in return informed me that thier one year warranty doesn't cover damage to the screen either.... I will not buy another one, cause after everything is said and done, it's going to be a $500 ipod that originally was $200 and something!!!!!

Just for future reference, most warranties, even most extended warranties, do NOT cover accidental damage.  They cover manufacuters defects and faulty material only.
What you wanted was a protection plan or product insurance program - completely different thing from a warranty.
It can get confusing, because some places do "bundle" a protection plan into their extended warranty, but you want to see, in writing, that the plan does specifically include accidental damage coverage.  If it does not explicitly say so, it will not coverage such damage.
Apple's extended warrantly plan, AppleCare, is simply an extension of your basic warranty and is not a protection plan.  Neither the Apple warranty, nor AppleCare covers damage caused by accident, abuse, mis-use and so on.

  • HT5824 Trying to back up my iPhone that has a shattered screen.  But it is requiring me to enter the passcode on the phone itself because the phone is locked.  That is impossible.  Any suggestions on getting around that so I can back up my data?

Trying to back up iPhone because phone has a shattered screen.  But it is requiring a passcode before I can back it up and the passcode has to be entered on the phone itself, which is impossible due to shattered screen.  Any suggestions on a way to get around this?

If you never synced with iTunes since setting the passcode on it, you won't be able to back up to your computer without entering the passcode first.  You can't get around this.  This requirement is for your own safety, as it keeps someone who steals you phone from being able to back up your data to their computer without knowing your passcode.

  • Shattered screen on the Motorola Droid Turbo

I just got a new turbo and my dog knocked it off the table onto the floor face down. The screen shattered, will Verizon replace it under the screen assurance program?  There is no other damage at all other than the screen.

After research 2/17/2015- Screen coverage as follows:
    1) It is done by Motorola, not VZ
    2) It is a (1) time replacement by Motorola
    3) Motorola will not fix your Droid Turbo phone, you will get a replacement. So backup data.
    4) This Warranty is for a "Cracked phone screen", not a shattered screen. If pieces of glass are falling out or
if a corner of a bezel is crushed or cracked, then it is not covered.

  • Shattered screen, external screen in standby with Satellite A10-S203

The screem of my Toshiba Satellite A10-S203 is shattered, it is all tripes, colors and black spaces. I connected the laptop with an external screen, but as soon as Windows starts the external screen goes on stand-by. How can I change this?

    Hello,
I have had this issue as well before. After Windows starts the video is reset resetting the video output to LCD instead of external monitor. Once this happens try using Fn+F5. If this does not work, you might be able to boot up and press F8, once it gives you the windows selection menu go to safe mode. Once there go to video properties and change the default settings to external monitor, and try rebooting normally. Should work wonders. Hope this helps, if not let me know.
