  • Firewall necessary for Point to Point internet connections?

Firewall necessary for Point to Point internet connections? We have multiple point to point t1 connections to our sites and was wondering if a firewall should be in place to filter traffic. We are also implenting a microwave t1 from a service provider and was wondering if firewalls would be needed for just this or the wired as well. According to the microwave company no firewalls are needed. Do i really want to leave security in the hands of the ISP?

    Matt,
If you are buying private line T1 service from a carrier that connects 2 of your sites you would not use a firewall. Your traffic is never mixed with any other traffic. If your data is very sensitive, or if you have to comply with Payment Card Industry standards then you might want to encrypt your data, but a firewall would still not be necessary.
If you have a T1 connecting you to the Internet for Web browsing etc then you very much do need a firewall.

  • Support for TLS-DSK Authentication in UCMA End Point connections?

The Lync servers support NTLM, Kerberos, TLS-DSK as supported Authentication Protocols.
However, it appears that  UCMA API when used in the End Point connection mode does not provide an option to use TLS-DSK as an authentication scheme.  Is there any way to connect to a Lync server that only supports TLS-DSK as an authentication protocol?
    //etc
                _collabPlatform = new CollaborationPlatform(clientPlatformSettings);
                _collabPlatform.AllowedAuthenticationProtocol = SipAuthenticationProtocols.None;   //Authentication protocol limitation -- TLS-DSK not available.
    UCFin

No, UCMA only supports NTLM/Kerberos.  TLS-DSK requires HTTP requests which UCMA can not currently handle.

  • How to set up a point to point connection in 4 sites

    Hi all.
I'm investigating the option of set up a point to point connection around 4 sites.
    I will call Site01, Site02, Site03 and Site04.
Site01 will be the main one with a Main Domain Controller.
Site02, Site03 and Site04 will be the Secondary Domain Controllers.
I need to install an VPN Router on each Site to create a full VPN Network, I mean, All the computers should see the other computers.
I need some support about it.
I suppose that I have to config like this:
Site01 with VPNRouter01 will have the IP range 192.168.1.X.
Site02 with VPNRouter02 will have the IP range 192.168.2.X.
Site03 with VPNRouter03 will have the IP range 192.168.3.X.
Site04 with VPNRouter04 will have the IP range 192.168.4.X.
If I config on each VPNRouter 3 point to point VPN connection is the only config that I have to do?
I mean, is not neccesary to config anything else?
I suppose that for example, the client with IP 192.168.1.10 should have the following IP address as well:
    192.168.2.10
    192.168.3.10
    192.168.4.10
Is this neccesary to see all the clients on the remote networks?
    Thanks and best regards.

    HI,
    Try the below
    1) Configure site to site vpn from all the three site to the HUB site.
    2) Configure ospf or any dynamic routing protocol on the vpn, thus you will have routes of site1, site2 and site3 in site4 and visaversa.
Once you have the connectivity established you can access any computers from any site.

  • All about Point-Point Connection

    Hi All,
I have read this point in the disscussion abt why we need XI
    1. right now you are using point to pont connection which is not the best way.
I know that the concept of ALE which is used to send the IDOC's from SAP-Non-SAP and Vice versa. This is working on Point to point conection.
Q1) Then on which basis XI is working. Is it is Point -Multi point concept??
Q2) What is the Dis Advantages of using the Poin--Point conection
Q3) What are the Advantages of avoiding the point point connection by using XI
    Regards
    Suman

    Hi,
instead of having point to point connections between systems you connect all systems with the XI.
For example if you have four systems A, B, C and D.
If you have point to point connections between all of them it will look like:
    A - B
    A - C
    A - D
    B - C
    B - D
    C - D
With XI it will look like:
    A - XI
    B - XI
    C - XI
    D - XI
So one advantage is that you will have less connections.
Another advantage is that if System A changes you have to adjust three connections in case of point to point.
With XI you have only to change one connection.
A further advantage is to have central point to configure and monitor your connections between the systems.

    Hello Prashant,
I recommend to use LACP instead of unconditional bundling it provides the capability to detect the neighbor and that is the same system connected to the other link.
You have ISP connections in the middle and so it is important to bundle in a safe way.
    So I would use
    channel-group 1 mode active
in order to use LACP. LACP messages are sent over every member link.
Another point of attention is that you are configuring each multilayer switch with a static default route to the other device and this is not good practice.
If you know that one site is more important you can configure the static default route on the other router, but on the main site you should configure specific static routes describing the IP subnets that are reachable at the other site.
    Hope to help

  • L2 Failover Plan for Point to Point

We have 2 point to point links from 2 different ISP's for the purpose of connecting to our data center from our office. We would like to configure a failover scenario using these two P2P links.
I have been trying with the sTP method but for some reason we could not succeed in this, could be because of the distance.
Please help me to implement a failover P2P conectivity usign this two links.

    Hello,
Is there a specific reason you are using Layer 2 between sites? If the links are the same bandwidth you could create a port-channel - where both physical links become one logical link, this is ideal because the fail-over is seamless without losing any connectivity and is far superior to spanning-tree.
    To configure this:
    interface Port-channel1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
    description Link to ISP1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    channel-group 1 mode active
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
    description Link to ISP2
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    channel-group 1 mode active
This could also be accomplished with IP routing. you can can configure the interfaces as layer 3 ports and setup a routing protocol between sites - Like EIGRP. EIGRP can do equal and unequal cost load balancing or simply route all traffic via one link and automatically route via the other if the primary went down.
If you provide more data I could offer more assitance with design and configuration.

  • Aironet 1500 series point to point connection

Hello, I have a question for cisco Aironet 1500 series. I want to connect two of them as point to point in a distance about 6 km (kilometers). So there are two questions, can them be connected as point to point to transmit signal and the second one what is the max distance of AP to be connected.
    Kind regards,
    Ardit

There are a lot of factors when it comes to an outdoor bridge connection. What kind of traffic is going to pass over that link? How much bandwidth do you need? Is there an free line of sight and can you place the (high gain) external antennas somewhere high or maybe even in an tower? And what about the factors you can't influence like the weather?
I personally don't have experience with this kind of high distances, but if you are going to do an test I would advise to go for the 1570 bridges and select an high gain antenna. A good starting-point for outdoor point-to-point connections is Cisco's WNG Coverage Capacity Calculator. You can also use tis tool to calcuate your Effective Isotropic Radiated Power, which should not exceed the rules dictated by your regulatory domain.

  • List of routers/access points that work/don't work with new airport extreme

Lets try to put together a list of routers/access points that work with the integrated airport extreme in the new intel macs and 10.4.5 (or 10.4.4) The purpose is to determine what is needed to make this work.
    1) only wireless g, 802.11b does not seem to have this problem, psp probably is not supported by most 802.11b cards so its probably disabled in that mode.
    I'll start off.
imac dou core. ( 1 week old)
dlink 2100ap , wireless g , does not work, slow not paifully slow internet access, very degraded video/audio streaming over local network.

    I'm afraid 11b is affected.
    I have a D-Link DSL 604+ router, which is 11b only.
Wireless is very slow, I noticed it right away. I get the sawtooth readout in activity monitor's network section.
Also, after putting the iMac to sleep it cannot find my wifi network upon waking. I have to restart the system before it'll connect to my wifi network again.

  • Mac upgrade to Yosemite, Adobe Indesign CS5 keyboard shortcuts not working -  t for text  - z for zoom - v for pointer etc

So I upgraded my MACBOOK PRO (Retina, Mid 2012) 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
    to MAC OS X YOSEMITE
Adobe Indesign CS5 generally works with some very annoying bugs.
All major keyboard shortcuts that use a single key command have stopped working. and these happen to be the main ones I use all the time for editing...
    t for text
    z for zoom
    v for pointer
It's annoying because now I have to keep  going back to the tool bar to change my cursor selection. It's just slowing me down.
    Annoying but workable.
Has anyone else go this issue?
An update or fix would be greatly appreciated.

    WARNING!!!
I was contacted by  apparently a third party supplier called Adobe Systems via this forum
They logged in to my computer via team viewer
    installed utorrent
and proceed to download a cracked version of adobe cs6
in the mean time saying on skype that Adobe no longer has Adobe CS6 on their server.
This seemed very OFF to me and I disconnected the skype (and blocked Adobe Systems) and disconnected TeamViewer
If I wanted a cracked version of Adobe CS6 I'm very capable of doing this kind of thing my self
However I run a business I want to have a legitimate licensed copy of the software running for my staff.
They were offering a fully licensed version of a Adobe Master Suite CS6 with my own unique ID for USD$400
Again very OFF considering the upgrade from Adobe from Indesign CS5 to CS6 is almost AUD$1600
I don't know how they got my email address from this forum but it seems that the adobe forum has been hacked!
    you have been warned!

  • How about two SDN "blogspaces" : one FOR points  and 1 NOT FOR points ?

I suggest that the current SDN logspace be divided into two subspaces:
one for points: this is where technical and/or non-controversial messages would be posted and be rewarded according to the current rules
one not for points: this is where folks would post "controversial" messages (technical or non-technical) that would not get any point reward.
I would personally prefer to post in the "not for points" subspace, for several reasons.
But I'd prefer to see what others have to say before saying what they are.
By the way, there's a US expression "preaching to the choir".  The new blog (for no points) would be for those who are not necessarily "preaching to the choir".
    djh

    david,
i think i do understand your intention and therefore agree with you.
IMHO, the blogsphere here on SDN, as execellent as it is, is kind of a 'posing platform' rather than a discussion space. People do post their contributions, receive their points reward and expect some congratulations and cheering if anything at all. I happened to me that people got upset when I questioned the use or correctness or usefulness of some of the content of their blogs. When it did this with the intention to discuss matters, I recognized that people actually didn't want to discuss their contributions.
Of course the things said above do not hold true for for a big number of contributors.
The same thing thing in the forums. A lot of people do provide very valuable answers but often not discuss matters when points are already given.
So having a discussion area, free of the rewards system's pressures might be a helpful addition. Something like a discussions corner. In Vienna we call this 'Kaffeehaus'
A place where you post some free thought where you don't have to justify the minimum blog reward points, where you don't have to apply the care expected in drafting a blog, etc..
Just freestyle discussion on useful or not so useful topics.
    regards,
    anton

  • WLC code for point to point bridging

What is the best WLC code for point to point and point to multipoint bridging on a 2504 with 2602 APs? 7.2-7.4 had transparent vlan issues and I'm not sure if they were fixed in 7.5-7.6. We have 5-6 vlans that we are needing to bridge between a large open area. Also, are there any bugs with wireless mesh and ISE?

You do not have many choices now, only 7.0.250.0, 7.4.121.0 & 7.6.110.0 codes are supported by Cisco. All other codes have been deferred by them.
I do not have configured those set-up to advise you specific to that. I would think 7.6.110.0 may have fixed whatever the known bugs in previous versions.

  • Do we need ask for points

    Hi friends,
one more chance to share my latest query..... when i first started into this forum i used to request for points after answering questions....  But since a long time i dropped this idea since the poster of the question anyway knows and has the responsibility to reward based on the merit of the answers.
So, in such case how much fair / required it is again to ask for points. ....My intention is how can we give balance to content and not just worry so much about points-
And its bit painful to see people who ask questions which require spoon feeding some times say that Points will be definitely rewarded to attract : as if we would answer anything for points.
at the end of my query i thought the correct subject of my question would be why do we need to ask for points
    Your opinions please.....
    Best Regards,
    Sadhu Kishore

    Sadhu:
Thanks a lot for this post! -:D
Here's my explanation...People just don't read...They still think that they are going to get some free T-Shirts by gaining points on SCN...They think that they're going to get better jobs or that they're going to have better reputation...
Nothing farther from the truth...Points are only good for the Food for People program...Nothing more...And I would love to think that people want to contribute to this wonderful program...But I'm not that naive -;)
I have crossed the 10K milestone...Why? Just because it was a personal goal...And because I get points for writing blogs and posting answers to the forums...But of course...I have never asked for them...
People must understand that this is a professional community...That we're are doing this because we love SAP (Ok...At least I love SAP)...
To me ask for points it's like give something to charity and say "Say thanks otherwise I get my stuff and get out of here"...Very bad behavior...
Points are not going to go...They exists for a reason and I wanted them to stay...People must change...And change for good...
    Greetings,
    Blag.
