SHDSL using an external modem

Hello,
Just wondering if it is a possible to configure a Cisco 2611XM for SHDSL using an external modem such as the RAD product ASMi-52 which does the line sync for you.
The CHAP authentication needs to be done by the router behind it (2611XM in this case).
I've never done this without a wic, any help would be greatly appreciated.

In my scenario, I'm not using the WIC, so I'm a bit confused as to how the configuration shouyld like as I have no ATM interface.

Using Apple external modem in Windows

I just got a new black 2.16 Macbook. I have ordered a copy of Windows XP Home SP2 and a copy of Parallels. I have a software called Meditech by Cambridge Software which allows me to connect to my hospital computer system via a modem--the Mac version stopped working a while ago on my Macs, as soon as they became G5 the modem wouldn't connect anymore. The software was written for Windows with the Mac version as an afterthought I believe. Will the network settings when run in Windows XP allow me to use my Apple External Modem (as you know, they Macbooks don't have a built in internal modem) to connect to this software?

Problem using Apple External Modem in France

Hi,
My dad lives in France but purchased his MacBook and Apple External USB modem here in the US. He has been unable to get a reliable dialup connection with the Apple modem, though his older PC laptop routinely gets a solid connection. I know about the USB bug in 10.4.7 mentioned in several other discussions, but downloading and installing the "backgrade" fix did not solve the problem. He even purchased a second Apple modem from the French online Apple store but had the same problem.
Does anyone know if the Apple modem is designed to work in foreign countries, or does he need to buy a third-party modem manufactured in France? Any other suggestions?

I'm guessing here, but since all the issues with 10.4.7 have been addressed with 10.4.8, your dad should be fine right now. Tell him to upgrade. I seem to recall that this upgrade specifically states that French issues with the modem have been addressed and solved.

Using Apple external modem to dial up UNIX

New to Mac, and for work I need to dial into our modem on UNIX computers. I can get the connection with Zterm, however I'm getting giburish back and can't seem to change the setting properly to get a Username and subsequent Password prompt back from UNIX. Then I expect to stay connected and work on the command line.
Previously I had Windows and used HyperTerminal to get me into the UNIX machines.
anyone familar with this?

I can dial out, get connected - all via Zterm; i just get a lot of gibberish back from the UNIX computer, instead of being English and prompting me for username and password.
Some setting is still off. I have sent an email to Zterm author.

Intel iMac crashes everytime using the external modem

The brandnew iMac crashes everytime when I try to connect to the Internet via the Apple USB modem. I exchanged it already thinking it was broke. The connection via Ethernet and DSL workes fine.

i'm fond that inside the folder /etc you have another one called /ppp and inside the folder /ppp you have some files that you have to edit in orther to configure your user name and password, but everything is explained on that files, and is bether that you reed then
then in the console you have to type pppd ttya (if your modem is conected to the Com1) call myisp
were myisp is one of the files that you have to configure, but how i'm told you everyting is splained on that files
If you dont have it please install the 2 Cd

i just got the macbook yesterday and the modem came today, and i cannot figure out how to connect with an AOL account using the external modem. does anyone know how, or have the same problem??

When you open System Preferences > Network > Location: Automatic & at Show: is there an option to select External Modem?
If so, is your Modem Model listed?

N8 as external modem and MS Outlook

I have a problem when using my nokia n8 as external modem via g3 as internet connection for my pc. I connect via nokia suite and no problem occurs with MS internet explorer, but MS outlook is not able to connect and download my emails. Any suggestion for this?

MacBook-Apple Modem use with DSL Modem

I have a MacBook and also purchased an Apple USB Modem. Have not installed it as I now have DSL and their modem. Don't appear to be able to fax with the DSL modem, thus want to know if it's a problem installing the Apple USB Modem for faxing purposes? Is it possible and do I need to disconnect the DSL modem to do so?

Hi IMAC LADY!
You cannot be connected to the Internet, while you are sending, or receiving a FAX.
You must use a Dial-Up connection, to FAX.
Not all DSL Cable Modems can be configured to send a FAX using the OS X FAX function.
Review this KB Article Can I fax with my cable, ADSL, DSL, or ISDN modem using Mac OS X 10.3?.
I have DSL as well, and when I want to send or receive a FAX, I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Mac Ethernet port, and plug a phone connection cord, from the wall jack to the Internal Modem port on the Mac.
If using an External Modem, connect to that.
I have a two port Splitter/Filter plugged into the wall jack.
The Cable/DSL Modem wire, is always plugged into one of the ports on that splitter.
When I want to use the FAX function, I plug the phone connection cord into the other port, but I do not unplug the Cable /DSL Modem.
The Splitter/Filter may not be a necessity. If you don't have one, just unplug the Cable Modem wire from the wall jack, and plug in the phone connection cord.
I then set the Network System Preferences, back to the Internel Modem, or External Modem, deselect the Built-in Ethernet, select Internal or External Modem, and drag it to the top of the window.
This of course will disconnect the Mac from the DSL connection, and you can then use the Internal Modem to send or receive a FAX.
Also review this Topic Faxing, for additional tips.
Additionally, when you enter the recipient FAX number, use this format 1-area code-xxx-xxxx.

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images! Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

As Babowa says, get an external disk. You should have one for normal backups anyway.
Actually, I'm a strong fan of having multiple backups. 3 copies including the original, 2 different backup formats, and 1 backup off-site.
And when you have your iMac in for service, if you have just 1 backup at that point in time you have just 1 copy of your data. I get paranoid about my data.
But if you are just making 1 backup, I would use SuperDuper (free for a full clone, and extremely good software, as is Carbon Copy Cloner, but it is not free anymore).
And then I would "Boot" from the clone, to make sure it was a good clone.
Booted from the clone, I would then use Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility to zero the original disk, as suggested by Babowa, so that when they replace the disk, the original disk containing your data is not in the hands of strangers. A single pass of zeros is more than good enough as an erase, as the chances are no one is going to spend the money needed to try and read the erased data. It is not like you have any super secret data, just stuff you do not want the casual data theif to get. You will find the zeroing options under Disk Utility -> Erase -> Security Options
Just make sure you actually boot from your clone before erasing your original. And if you are paranoid like me, make 2 backups, then erase the original :-)

I can log on my email accounts, open my incoming emails (with difficulty coz it asks me to "try again" ) but I can never send emails, I always get: "sending is taking a little long, try again".

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Not too common with G4 PowerBooks as they have an internal modem. I can't find Apple's sepcs but a third-party ad shows it minimally needs 10.4.3 or higher and a G-series processor. That should work.
However, the Apple version is expensive used. I googled Apple MA034 external modem and found an Amazon page that showed other compatible modems that were much cheaper.
