  • NImax.exe entry point not found TDMS_GetDataValueEx in cviTDMS.dll

I have a remote PXI-8108 and I'm trying to create a task in MAX.  I have no other tasks as this is my first attempt at creating one.  The following sequence is performed on the remote system:  left click on the PXI-6713 under "NI-DAQmx Devices" --> create task --> generate signal --> analog output --> voltage --> ao0 --> default name of "MyVoltageOutTask"  --> click "Finish"
An error window titled "NIMax.exe - Entry Point Not Found" pops up with the following message:  The procedure entry point TDMS_GetDataValuesEx could not be located in the dynamic link library cviTDMS.dll.
The only option is to click "OK", at which time the box continually reappears.  the only way to get rid of it is to kill MAX in the windows task manager.  When I restart MAX, the remote system data neighborhood has a broken task under it, and clicking on it locks the program up (needs another kill in windows task manager).  The only way to get rid of it is to reset the remote system's DAQmx configuration and start over.
I have reinstalled  NIDAQ 8.9.0, reset the remote system configuration in MAX, updated/reinstalled all the software on the remote system (so that it matches the host system).  not sure what else to try.  I figure this should be an elementary step:  I've done it plenty of times with simulated devices on a host system.  Not sure why the remote system is giving me problems.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was able to do this on an 8196 controller no problem with DAQmx 9.0 on the controller and my computer having 8.9.5.  Updating to 9.0 or even 8.9.5 should update MAX and hopefully get rid of what you are seeing.  You are correct that the host and controller should have the same driver version so make sure you update both of them together.  It is quite strange that the error is linking to a LabWindows/CVI dll file.  Are you using CVI RT on the controller?

NImax.exe has generated errors. You must restart the program, a log file is

This error occurs just after bootup, no programs started except windows..
Running Windows 2000 latest version on a brand new computer.
    (pent 4 3.0 ghz 500MB ram).
Can anyone help me with this problem? Happened after install Labview 7.0
express. Installed twice and same problem occured with both installs.
Labview 7.0 is the only thing installed right now. Also selected "Visual
Basic Support" install from driver cd's.
One other thing I just noticed. System info reports 2 processors and I
    think I only have one.
    TIA

    Happy update.
After ignoring this problem for awhile and installing some NI DAQ boards,
this problem is not happening anymore.
Would urge NI to investigate further though. Messed me up for a couple of
days, and still don't know why it happened.
Much thanks to those who helped.

  • After LV 5.1 install, get message, "nimax.exe-entry point not found."

Just installed LV 5.1 on customers PC. She already has LV 6.1, and 7.1 installed. Upon reboot, at login screen, the error message below occurs:
    "nimax.exe-entry point not found"
"The procedure entry point?GetVirtualChannelObjectOnServer@CNIConfigData@@QAEKPBD0@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library nidaqcfg.dll."
I have tried installing the latest version of MAX. No luck. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Marxs,
My first suggestion would be to avoid installing LabVIEW 5.1 if possible. This for a few reasons...
LabVIEW 5.1 has the option to install DAQ with LabVIEW. If you elected to install NI-DAQ with the LV 5.1 install, you will run into driver conflict problems.
If you want to use DAQms with LabVIEW 7.1, you will need to install NI-DAQ 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3. You can also use NI-DAQ 7.3 with LabVIEW 6.1. However, NI-DAQ 7.3 will NOT install support for LabVIEW 5.1. This means that you will not be able to use your DAQ devices in LV 5.1.
If you need DAQ for LV 5.1, you will need to go back to NI-DAQ 6.9.3. This version will work with 5.1 and 6.1, but you will loose functionality in LabVIEW 7.1.
My suggestions would be as follows:
-- uninstall LabVIEW 5.1 and all versions of DAQ that are on the machine
-- re-install LabVIEW 5.1 but choose the "custom" and elect NOT to install DAQ
-- Install NI-DAQ 7.3 and have support for 7.1 and 6.1 (no support for 5.1 is available)
Basically, when you try to mix these very old versions of LabVIEW and DAQ with the newer stuff you will run into driver conflicts that can be unpredictable.

  • NIMax.exe has generated errors

My system was working fine till this morning. I had to reconnect GPIB cables. I did that and ever since then, i'm unable to use MAX. As soon as i open MAX and click on "Devices and Interface", i get this error - "nimax.exe has generated errors and will be closed down by windows. You need to restart the program". I uninstalled LV 6.0 and MAX 3.1 and reinstalled LV 6.0 and MAX 3.2. The problem still is the same .. PLEASE HELP IMMEDIATELY !!!

Perhaps in the reinstallation of MAX the configuration data files have been corrupted. One way we can check this is to close MAX, and then delete the Data folder found in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX. This will basically give you a clean slate in MAX to start from. WARNING: Deleting the Data folder will remove all MAX configurations. New configuration files will be created when MAX is reopened. If this is something that's possible for you, please try it, and let us know if it allows you to reopen MAX and move on. If not, we'll keep trying.

  • Nimax.exe - Application Error. Instruction at 0x6d8e3e61 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be "read."

On startup I get a nimax.exe application error.
The instruction at "0x1ce30df7" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
This happens every time I start the computer, run a vi with the initialize.vi or try to use the measurement and automation explorer.
I am running windows XP, Labview 7.1,  and max 3.1.1

I had a similar problem in win2000 / max 3.1.1.  I do not recall the exact memory location error.
It happened every time I started the computer, or once started, evrytime I load a vi that has some daqmx functionlity.
I reinstalled windows / Nidaq, and never had the error again.

  • I get a nimax.exe- Application Error every time I start labview

every time I start a vi either by double clicking or by opening labview first I get an application error... "the instruction at "0x1ca12b96" referenced at "0x00000000", The memory could not be "read", click ok to terminate the program". when I click ok the program does not terminate and as long as I don't close labview completely I can close it and reopen the vi. I am unsure if the program malfuncions after that point but it is certainly an annoyance. Have you seen this problem before? Is there something that I should do to the vi to correct the problem? I talked to NI about this issue, and tried the following WITH success (note that I am running W2k and Labview 6.0.2):
    1. Uninstall all NI components in the reverse order you installed them. For me, this was Ni-Daq, Ni-488.2, and finally Labview 6.0. If you have to, look at the modified or created dates of the folders to see what order you did it in.
    2. After this, I decided to go a bit further and delete the registry key for Ni-Daq under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\NI-DAQ. Make sure you Export your registry key beforehand in case something goes wrong.
    3. Install Labview 6.0, custom installation. For this installation, DO NOT INSTALL the drivers, just Labview.
    4. After that, I installed the upgrade patch for Labview 6i -> 6.0.2, downloaded at ni.com.
    5. Next I downloaded the 2 files for NI-DAQ 6.9.3, uncompressed the files, and ran the setup. When the installation was done, I chose to not reboot now, but let me do it later. At one of these points, you can also Mass compile the VI's. I don't think it's necessary at this point, but I did it anyway.
    6. Finally, I downloaded NI-488.2 version 2.2 (which has a new version of MAX than NI-DAQ 6.9.3), uncompressed it and installed it.
    7. After this last step, I rebooted the computer and was able to finally get into MAX to configure my DAQ card.
So far, this method has worked. Perhaps it can work for you.

  • NIMax.exe - Entry Point Not Found - attempt to create task in MAX

I have two different cards that use NI-DAQmx: PXI-4461 and PXI-6259. They are installed in a PXI-1031 chassis with a PXI-8105 controller. Both devices pass their self-test in MAX. When I try to create a new task for either, I get first the expected selection dialog:
After I select "Analog Voltage" (or any other item), I get the following error:
Last week, I upgraded my HSDIO driver for a PXI-6562, which led me to upgrade NI-DAQmx to 9.2.3, and subsequently repair both installations in Windows to get them working (see this forum thread).
Task creation used to work. The system still recognizes the one task that I created weeks ago for the PXI-4461.
Here is a screenshot of my current software versions:
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I solved this problem by downloading and installing NI-DAQmx 9.3.0. This, in turn, caused the problem from the post that I linked above, which I fixed by choosing "repair" in the Windows control panel for 1. the HSDIO driver, and then 2. the NI-DAQmx driver. The order matters. Now it seems to be working.

I have seen something of this nature with our beta software, but not with our released drivers. Are you, or were you, using any beta version of NI software and/or drivers?
What version of the NI-DQ driver are you using? And the NI-IMAQ driver? And of MAX? You can determine all of these versions in the MAX utility by going to the "Software" folder.
If you cannot even enter MAX then I would definitely recommend uninstalling your NI-DAQ and NI-IMAQ drivers. Our latest versions are NI-DAQ 7.0 and NI-IMAQ 2.6. You can find both by going to http://www.ni.com and clicking on Download Software. These most recent versions should not exhibit the issue you are reporting.

    Hi,
I did a research on your error message and it seems this problem was introduced with MAX 4.6. This version switched to a new error reporting mechanism and reports even errors that are which are not critical to your task.
These errors typically show up as "unexpected" and if your error falls into this category have a look to this KB for further assistance.
If it doesn't fall into this category, your could try to go back to the MAX 4.5 or 4.4.. Of course you would need to reinstall some components and might not be able to use newer drivers at all.
    Let me know.

  • NIMax shows error when opening device and interface

I have just installed NI-VISA 3.1. NIMax will not open the devices and interfaces configuration to allow me to see the GPIB and PXI devices.
It gives a message of "NIMax.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."

    Hello,
It sounds like an installation has been corrupted. As a general, first-order fix for such problems, you can uninstall and reinstall the program with corrupted files (using add/remove programs from your control panel). To get a better idea for which program has corrupted files, when MAX crashes click the details button (if one shows) in the error message (include such information in any repost as well!). If your system was stable prior to installing NI-VISA 3.1, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling NI-VISA. If you have the time, I would uninstall all of your NI hardware and software, then reinstall your NI software, then reinstall your NI hardware (you should check your hardware manuals to be sure that your specific NI hardware does not require instal
lation before the software). Also, if you could provide the version information for all of your NI software and your current hardware setup (NI and otherwise), it may open other options for solutions!

  • Error when running measurement explorer; corrupt installation on Windows XP

When I launch measurement explorer in Windows XP, I get an error stating: Unable to open connection to server. Config.mxs file or installation corrupt. Please delete config.mxs file in the same directory as NIMax.exe, please delete file, reinstall and then check ni.com if problem not fixed.
I have tried deleting the config.mxs file and have reinstalled NIDAQ 6.9.3. Whenever I try to install NIDAQ 6.9.3, I get an error message 1605 relating to the installation of NI-Pal 15.6f0. I continued the installation when prompted. Could this be corrupting measurement explorer?

I figured out how to get MAX to install properly under WinXP. My clue came when I had to change permissions in the registry before I could delete the registry settings when reinstalling. MAX must have to write something to the registry when it first starts up, and I noticed the whole registry tree had no permissions even after the re-install. After going to the national instruments top level registry entry, I changed the permissions to full control for administrator. Then click on Advanced and click replace permission entries for all child objects. After this, I could start up MAX with no problems. I would suggest backing up your system before you try this. I don't know if this is something NI can fix with the install or if this is a WinXP problem to prevent
having to do all this in the future.

  • Errors in Creating Virtual Channel

I am creating a IVI switch driver. The driver passes the IVI Specific Driver Suite 2.2 and IVI Switch SFP testing. When I try to create the virtual channel the device is found (created IVI Logical Name and other fileds) but the channels displayed are empty on the Channels/Exclusion tab. What calls are made when creating the virtual channel? I want to create a CVI or TestStand program to simulate the sequence that Switch Executive performs.
When validating a configuration, are all possible channels used in SetPath loop? As an example, if three channels are defined (Front, rear, & base) but only the front->base, rear->base, base->front and base->rear are valid configurations. Will the vaildate try a front->rear configuration? Will a disconnect call be placed in between each SetPath call?
    Thanks.
    Randy

    Randy,
Although you cannot step through the NISE engine, you can step through your driver's code and debug its behavior. If you have problems with importing IVI virtual name into switch executive virtual device, then what you need to do is select nimax.exe as the process to debug and run it with the debug version of your driver. If you were using CVI, you can set the external process under Run>>Select External Process. If you're using MSVC, you can choose "open project" and browse to nimax.exe and then add symbols for your driver DLL in the project settings.
The entry points to monitor (for your particular problem) are the ones that deal with getting the number of channels and getting individual channel names and their attributes. Make sure that your driver returns the correct number of channels and that it also returns all these channel names correctly. If you see no error in switch executive (I.e. it just says OK after you import your ivi logical name), then my guess is that your driver returns 0 for the number of channels.
Please be aware that switch executive exercises much more than any of the IVI clients you mentioned. Yet it does not go "through the back door" for anything, it (obviously) uses public entry points in the driver to perform what it needs to do.
So, you can start by setting up debug project in your favourite environment, and check the behavior of the following functions in your driver:
    getting the IVISWTCH_ATTR_CHANNEL_COUNT attribute
IviSwtch_GetChannelName (with your prefix, of course)
and see if those work. My guess is that something is not working correctly between these two functions.
