Sherlock weirdness - Hacked?

Yesterday Sherlock showed the stocks tab in german. along with it, ebay and translation tabs are also part german, part english. Today the stocks tab is back to english. the others are still the way they are. Only english and a non-European language are enabled in language support. Firewall is enabled and everything is secure the way apple disables. Any ideas people?

Finally found it. The native language was ahead of English in my languages setting. while this is useful for replacing english number system with native number system, mac does not have equivalent menus/headings etc in native language to be used in sherlock. so it uses some european language as alternative for these menus. i moved english to the top followed by native language adn sherlock started behaving properly. hope that helps if any of you have the trouble.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 Pro; gets stuck on "Starting Windows" screen

I have read dozens of posts on this topic but none has helped yet.
My system has Windows 8 with UEFI. I want to install Windows 7 Pro on another partition. I have turned off Secure Boot in the UEFI/BIOS. When I try to install Windows 7 Pro from a DVD it shows "windows is loading files" and then gets stuck on "Starting Windows"
for ever. This happens even when no USB peripherals are attached.
I have already wasted many days on this. I hope someone can help.
    Thanks!

    Hi friends of the internet
I have been reading several forums regarding the issue of installing windows 7 (64 bit) to a computer that have had windows 8 installed previously or just a GPT formatted disk.
    My Case:
Windows version installed: Windows 7 Professional N with Service Pack 1 (x64) or Windows 7 Professional (x64)
    Computer used: Samsung laptop
    Model Code: NP53U4C-A02SE
    See the specks here:
    http://www.samsung.com/dk/consumer/computer-peripherals/notebook/notebook/NP535U4C-A02SE-spec
Create a USB install disk that not freezes at ”starting windows” screen:
First I followed this great guide (Thanks Daniel):
    http://
    hodgin.ca/2012/10/02/creating-a-uefibios-windows-7-usb-and-installing-to-gpt-partitions/
    STOP AFTER STEP 13!
    1. Open a command line in administrator mode
    2. run DISKPART
    3. type LIST DISK
    4. Look for the disk number that represents your USB drive
    5. type SELECT DISK # where # represents the number of your USB drive. Get this right or you will wipe a different drive out.
    6. type CLEAN
    7. type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    8. type SELECT PARTITION 1
    9. type ACTIVE
    10. type FORMAT fs=fat32 quick
    11. type assign
    12. The drive should now be formatted and marked as active and fat32. Do not format the drive as NTFS or you will only be able to boot into the installer in BIOS mode.
    13. Now you will need to copy the contents of the windows 7 install dvd to the USB with a regular copy paste from windows explorer.
Here comes a very weird hack... I do not know why it works, but I think it is all about flash drive data structure. I did these steps on a win 7 prof. computer.
    (Let’s assume it’s drive E:)
Make a copy of your e:\efi\microsoft folder to e.g. your desktop.
    Delete the e:\efi folder
Copy the \efi folder from a windows 8 installation disk (I used Windows 8 (x64) Professional) to the e:\efi folder. Sorry I cannot provide this for you.
Here comes the weird part. Then delete e:\efi\microsoft you just copied from the win 8 installation disk.
Copy the \microsoft folder form the desktop to e:\efi\microsoft
Resume the guide from step 18.:
    http://
    hodgin.ca/2012/10/02/creating-a-uefibios-windows-7-usb-and-installing-to-gpt-partitions/
    18. Insert the USB in the machine and turn it on and boot into the UEFI/BIOS loader and check for boot options. On the ASUS Zenbook it detected two boot options on the USB drive. One was UEFI and one was regular BIOS. I made the
UEFI option the first choice and restarted the machine.
    My bios setup was:
    Secure Boot = Disable
OS Mode Selection = CSM and UEFI OS
Boot Device Priority = I made the UEFI option the first choice and restarted the machine.
    The installation should start normal.
    E.g. See this guide:
    www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html
    What I did was:
    Select custom installation (Advanced).
    Click Drive options (Advanced).
Delete all partitions (this might not be needed). When I did not delete all partitions I was asked every time after the install, during start up by the windows boot manager to select ether win 8 or win 7.
Click new (DO NOT make Changes in the size of the disk), apply, see NOTE!
Edit the Primary partition as you want it e.g. divide it to more partitions.
Select the one you will install windows on and do a normal install.
I do not make changes in the Bios after install. The Boot priority is automatic set to “Windows boot manager”. If I change the boot mode back to OS Mode Selection = UEFI OS, the computer will freeze at the “starting windows” screen again.
All this worked for me, good luck. There might be more to it, but this is a start.
By the way, the start up time for a MBT install was 37 s. And for the GPT it was 49 s.
Remember if we stand on each other’s shoulders we will reach higher
    J.
NOTE: Here the installation program should create three partitions automatically!
Partition 1 - System - The EFI System partition that contains the NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt, and other files that are needed to boot the system, such as drivers.
Partition 2 - MSR - The Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition that reserves space on each disk drive for subsequent use by operating system software.
Partition 3 - Primary - Where Windows is to be installed to.
If this isn’t the cast you are not installing in UEIF mode. To check for this (thanks again Daniel):
If you need to find out if you have booted into BIOS mode or UEFI mode when the installer starts you can press SHIFT+F10 when the welcome installer shows up to open a cmd prompt. from here you will likely be at X:\Sources. Type cd .. to
go back a dir and move into \Windows\Panther\
    Then type notepad setupact.log
Within this file do a ctrl+f and search for
        Callback_BootEnvironmentDetect: Detected boot environment:
It should either say BIOS or UEFI.
To check if your disk is in the GPT format.
    Open the command prompt.
    Type: DISKPART
    Type: List Disk
See for the star (*) in the GPT column

  • Linking between two workspaces

    Good afternoon all,
I was wondering if there was anyway for me to link between two workspaces on the same schema.
What I currently have set up is two workspaces (1 and 2). I have done a lot of work on 1 and built a Single Sign On application to manage my applications. Workspace 2 was created for a separate team, but I would like some sort of authentication. I was wondering if there was anyway for me to leverage my existing app in Workspace 1 to authenticate for applications in Workspace 2.
My guess is that it's not possible, but I figured I might as well ask around to see if there is some weird hack around it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ivan

Alright I'll post it on there. Figured that InDesign users would know more about the links and how to set them up. Thanks for the advice.

  • Image size for new document changes

We need to submit a file 6.125" x 4.125" at 300dpi to our printer. This has never been a problem before. Photoshop changes our custom document size from the entered dimensions to 6.127" x 4.127". This is a problem. Anyone else having this issue? Adobe's answer was to change the resolution to 300.1 dpi which seems like a weird hack. We have tried to unclick the proportion constrain link and you still can't get the exact size.
    Thanks

Unavoidable. An image consists of pixels. Photoshop is rounding to the nearest whole pixel.

  • Adobe AIR - stage orientation / rotation

    Hello,
I'm developing an desktop AIR aplication.
At some point the user can rotate de aplication (0º or 180º).
I looked at the API and its possbile to change the application orientation on AIR for mobile as described on this article:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/dev/WS901d38e593cd1bac1c39723e12caaf5620c-7fff.html
Is kind of stupid it isn't possible on AIR for desktop...
Does anyone knows a way to accomplish this?
Rotate the stage, native window, main timeline... don't know... some weird hack?
I want to avoid the need for an empty sprite just to hold the other class and get my displaylist deeper...
    Thank you.

// This could be used instead of a container

  • Read the output of a jsp into a string

I need a servlet that can return the output html of a jsp as a string. How can I do this? I played around with constructing a URL object and getting an InputStream from that but without success.

This is kind of a weird hack, but it just might work. If it's only one jsp file that you're working with, instead of putting the code inside a jsp, put it in a servlet instead. Wherever you're outputting something call the method below:
    private String totalOutput="";
    private void doubleOutput(PrintWriter jspout, PrintWriter fileout, String mytext){
       jspout.println(mytext);
       fileout.println(mytext);
       totalOutput+=mytext;
}So basically you would get the jspout from the response.getWriter() method (in either doGet or doPost method). The fileout is basically a PrintWriter associated with a new FileOutputStream(tempfilename).
Now, you basically have all the output you need in the file and you can access it later. Alternatively, at the end of the servlet's doGet or doPost method, you'll have access to everything that's output in that 'totalOutput' String (don't forget to reset it after every call to doGet/doPost!)

  • Production Premium CS4 download link

    Hello,
I have misplaced my Adobe Production Premium CS4 disks and cannot locate them.  Might someone be so kind as to provide me with a download link?  I have the serial number.  Thanks.

    Hi CrawClaw,
    Go to this link: http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Make sure you read the entire article and directions, as it's a weird hack to get the genuine Adobe trials. The website is on the up-and-up, and if you follow all directions, you'll see that the download actually comes from Adobe.
    Good luck!

  • Upgrade - Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion - Safe ?

I have an iMac from early 2009.  Solid as a rock.
I like the look of iCloud and am thinking of upgrading to Lion (via Snow Leopard).
But I am very nervous of losing photos and music.  Restoring the backups takes forever, and I am not that motivated.
Is the upgrade path smooth and safe,or am I right to be nervous ?

It always depends. But if you have a Mac that's not configurated in strange ways or on which you don't have applied weird hacks, it should be okay.
But always make sure that you have a backup.

  • Functionality that mimics subclips?

I'll start by saying I'm new to FCPX and video editing in general. I'm looking for a way to create subclips from a master clip that are totally independent from the master clip. Final Cut Pro 7 seemed to have this functionality, but from what I can see, FCPX doesn't?
I realize you can favourite subclips, or give them keywords etc which helps organize them, but I'm looking to be able to delete the master clip after doing this. Basically I may have, say, 100 gigs of ProRes media where I may actually need 5-10 gigs. It seems crazy that I should have to keep 100 GB of media just for the 5-10 I require, especially since Final Cut Pro 7 seemed to have this functionality.
I'm hoping there's something similar in FCPX? I can't imagine they just intend for us to keep every bit of footage we've ever made just so we can use small bits of it. I've read that you can do some weird hack where you create a separate partition just for the video and trick FCPX into thinking it's a camera, but is there any other way to do this?
    Help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
It's just pretty surprising to me that something as simple as this wouldn't be available
You can trash any media file you want. That's simple to do. Trimming a media file is lot more complicated because a whole new file has to be built.
Understood, but you'd think a program that can take dozens of videos, a bunch of sound clips, animations, photos etc, and combine them together in one file would be able to take one big video and make two smaller ones out of it. Heh, well I guess I'll just have to start buying some enormous hard drives or find a way to produce much smaller clips.
BenB, thanks, but yeah I'm looking for pieces of huge clips. That's exactly what I'm doing though, I'm reviewing and favouriting/keywording all the parts I need before doing much of anything else.

  • Can my iPhone and MacBook Pro be hacked by receiving a call from an weird number?

I received a phone call from a bizarre number. The guy asked me if I could confirm the number I saw on my screen. I did. then strange things started to happen to my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if through this call could somene have hacked my system. One of the things that happened to my MacBook Pro is that I went to make a make a presentation and the system apparently deleted all my cookies and now I have to enter my UserID and Password to every site I normally use.  Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    >>...when you say "...erasing/reinstalling..." what do you exactly refer to? Save my documents and then reinstall the whole OS?...
Saving, erasing the disk, then installing a completely new system & importing/migrating only your documents & files, rather than any software. Changing all passwords etc too.
Which may sound extreme, but if something cropped up on your computer screen, with a number included, then someone called your 'phone & requested that number from the screen, and after giving it to them, it seemed as if they could control your computer... (what were the other strange things ?).

  • Weird links sudden show up on some words on most of websites I have been visited...  is my computer hacked?

    Hi guys,
Today, I sudden noticed that most of the website I usually visited have a random links on some keyword. Here is the quick screenshot:
The links goes to other site (It called CouponDropDown or something). It really annoying me because I know that the links shouldn't be there. Most of the site I have been visited before it occured does not have that links at all.
I was wondering if my computer have been hacked? If you know how to fix the issue, please let me know soon and I hope it won't bring more damage to my computer :/
    Thanks!
    Christie

I don't know how it was installed, or how to uninstall it. I've never heard of it before, and I can't find it on the developer's website. Possibly it's a Safari extension. Select Safari > Preferences > Extensions from the menu bar and see what you have.
To avoid such problems in the future, be very careful of what you click on. Never let anyone else use your computer when it's logged in to your account.

  • Shortly after email was hacked into, I see two weird things on my desktop;should I worry?

A couple of weeks ago, somebody in another country definitely accessed my email.  Just yesterday, I looked at my dock and noticed that Microsoft Document Connection (which I've never heard of or used) was open, and on my desktop was a folder labelled, "Apple Public Folder."  I believe I quickly deleted icon from my dock and possibly the Apple Public Folder -- then I got this message:
    Connection failed.
The server "GB Floater 6" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Does any of this indicate that someone is remotely accessing my computer and copying documents?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thanks!
All passwords on iOS based apps is encrypted. It is extrememly unlikely your iPad and that WiFi connection is where the problem lays. In fact, it is quite possible your actual email account wasn't used: The sender address could easily have been spoofed. The email itself is not encrypted (very few mail apps/providers do this), and unless you are in a situation where the mail you send is of such a nature as to be that confidential, encrypting email will be more trouble that it is worth (your recipients will need the encryption key to read it).
Contact support for hotmail and change your password. You might consider changing yoru email address or even provider, but ther eis a chance that wouldn't stop the spam.

  • Suddenly no Software Opens and finder acts weird. Hacked??

    Hi, I have a Macbook pro 15" 8,2 with Lion 10.7.3
What happened is that suddenly all programs stopped working,
    -Photoshop
    -Skype
    -Archicad
    -Safari (opens and crashes)
-Firefox (opens and after sometime it gives a script error and crashes)
-Sophos Anti-virus is running in the backround, but everytime I open preferences it crashes... the same as others.
    -Parallels
    -Clean My Mac
All the above and more that I didn't opened, syntoms: they lagged the all system when starting, crashed by themselves and issued reports, that I've sended.
-Finder: any file I try to right click, when I right-click the finder crashes and restarts (and if files are moving from one folder to another they stop)
I've rebooted severall times, and the problem persisted, even in single-user or safe-mode.
Mail, calendar, contacts and Disk Utility open with no problems.
Started OS X LIon recovery USB and failed (apple logo passed to a forbiden logo)
For the moment I succesfully backedup everything, and the only thing I could do was was reboot and do the cmd+r ... recovery assistant.
It booted, downloaded Lion and installed it above the other one, has soon it rebooted, everything worked fine again, supposely for the moment.
Now I'm going to boot with OS X Lion Install in a USB, format the HD completely (I use HTFS+ with Password) and install Lion from scratch.
Now, I don't know if this was an Issue with the latest safari update or 10.7.3, or ... and this is what I'm afraid of, with so much level of security:
-Firewall, encrypted HD and account, sophos anti-virus, is it possible by I've been connected to a public wi-fi, to have been target of hackers?
At home I use the Internet with the Network cable, and sometimes the wi-fi, it depends.
    Thanx in advance.

For a start uninstall Sophos anti-virus. Not needed and known to cause many conflicts, then we can work from there. Make sure you uninstall it with the uninstaller that came with it or as per the developers instructions at their site.

  • Weird crashes when trying to start app

    Hi,
I've got a weird problem on my PM G5 2.0 with my primary user account. Everytime I try to start the demo version of the (java) application LightZone I can click the demo button on the "register/buy/demo-window" and after that Lightzone crashes while showing a message "Initializing Engine Utilities" in its splash screen. I get error messages in my log (attached to this message).
The point is, that the app runs fine on my iBook and on the same G5 but with a differet user account. I have tried different versions of Lightzone, I have repaired permissions, I have repaired my colorsync profiles (see first stack in JavaNativeCrash.log). I have started Mac OS X in safe boot, I have quit all processes I don't absolutely need, I haven even temporarily removed everything from my home folder but Lightzone still crashes.
It can't be the app, as it works with the other accouns and my iBook, it can't be my hardware as it works with the other accounts and it can't be any process I run or anything lying in my home folder. What is causing these strange crashes?
BTW: I also tried re-installing 10.4.7 with combo update as well as Java5. Know what...it still crashes.
    Anybody out there?
    Thanks,
    Carsten

First of all: Thanks for your help!
Since it runs OK on the same computer but under a
different account, it sounds like a problem with your
    account, perhaps the application's preferences.
That's what I am also thinking, but I can't find anything special with my account.
    • Discard the preferences in your account related to
the application in question. Check both your Home >
Library > Preferences and Home > Library >
Preferences > ByHost folders for preferences related
    to LightZone.
I had already done this before posting. I even discarded everything in my preferences folder in order to check for any problems related to bad preferences.
    • Check your account's preferences with Pref
    erential Treatment.
Already running while writing this message...
    • I note you have some Unsanity haxies installed.
These have a history of being problematic. I
suggest checking for updates, disabling them, or
    uninstalling them.
What? I still have unsanity stuff installed?!?!? I used some of their apps a long time ago, but then I had problems, so I uninstalled everything - or so I thought.
How do you know I have one of their haxies installed? Neither Spotlight nor a terminal search did show anything and judging from a look at their web site I don't accidentally use any of their hacks.
    • You should really report this problem to LightZone,
as the first set of Console messages indicate. It's
they're application, they should support it.
I did this, but I never heard anything. Also a web search did not show any other user with a similar problem.
EDIT: Ok, SmartCrashReporter is from Unsanity. But I do not know, where is application is coming from...
    Bye,
    Carsten
