Shield Icon?

Hello,
As of today, I keep seeing a shield icon pop up whenever I'm on certain pages on Tumblr. I did not see this icon pop up yesterday, nor did I change any settings from yesterday. As such, I have no clue why it would show up today.
This icon only shows up when I am on Tumblr's Dashboard, Queue, Draft, etc pages. It does not show up on Non-Tumblr pages, or when I go on to actual blogs on Tumblr.
I have tried fixing the problem by updating, removing add-ons/plugins, and going into safe mode, but have had no luck.
I find this feature a bit distracting. While everything does seem to work as it should, and it is something I could learn to get used to if nothing can be done about it, I still have some questions:
1) Why is this feature suddenly coming up? I have not had it come up (with such frequency, anyways) before, so why is it coming up now, seeing as I have not made any changes, nor does it seem that Tumblr has made any changes either.
2) Is there any way to disable (or at the very least, make the shield icon not show) this feature without having the orange triangle icon come up?

You get the shield when you are on a secure page that has content coming via an open http connection.
You can see what content that is in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer).
Mixed content should appear as red text.
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to generate the log.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
If there is mixed passive content (e.g. images) coming via an open connection then Firefox shows an exclamation mark instead of "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar.

I assume this page worked normally in Firefox 22?
Firefox 23 introduced a new security feature. If this is an HTTPS page, insecure content may be blocked. Look for a shield icon on the address bar to the left of the URL. This article has more details about this feature: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]
If it's not a secure page or there's no shield, here is a more general suggestion.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Firefox doesn't recognize some links on a home utility website

I logged on to my gas utility provider. There is a link that asks you to choose the region where you are receiving the service. The link opens up a pop-up which offers you links to all the available regions. When I click on my link, nothing happens, except for the url showing on the bottom of the browser as if I am only hovering. Other links on this pop-up work. I would think this is a current broken link on the website, BUT, the link works fine in internet explorer!
There is a trick I can use to open the link: I can right-click on the link, and choose open link in another tab, and the link then works. This is driving me mad. One time I saw a 2 second comment about my K-9 security software, but it was too fast to actually read it. I've used this site countless times and never had a problem. There are a number of places on the site that offer this pop-up. It always refuses to acknowledge regular clicking on the link I need.
Again, I would think this has something to do with the website itself, or the K-9 protection I saw for that split second, but the reality is, it's NOT happening in Internet Explorer, only in firefox.
I tried clicking on this link from firefox safe mode, but that didn't work either. I know I can continue using my "trick", but I don't like that firefox is simply refusing to recognize and connect to a link for no apparent reason. I've emptied my cache, deleted all my cookies, history, logins, and anything else that
might be preserving some kind of glitch that may have occured once. I've closed and re-opened firefox. I've closed and restarted my whole computer. Firefox refuses to respond to this link, without my using the "right click - open in another tab trick".
Does anyone have any other ideas of what to tweak?

It looks like an overlay in the page rather than a separate pop-up window. Firefox's pop-up permissions do not apply to overlays.
Did this problem just start after August 6th? Firefox 23 has a new mixed content blocker which could affect sites that are showing an insecure (HTTP) overlay on an secure (HTTPS) page. Typically a "shield" icon would appear to the left of the URL on the address bar. This article has more information about how to recognize that situation and deal with it: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]
    Does that seem relevant?

  • Is turning off iFrames via about:config browser.frames.enabled;false broken in Firefox 23?

I noticed that Firefox with version 23 removed option to turn OFF JavaScriipt from Tools > Options > Content menu
    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/163291-firefox-23-finally-kills-the-blink-tag-removes-ability-to-turn-off-javascript-introduces-new-logo
Recent events when allegedly FBI used JavaScript in iframe to exploit bug in Firefox with intentions to uncover identity of users of TOR network encouraged me to play with security settings a bit.
More about how FBI exploited Firefox bug to execute malitious JavaScript on users computers: https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tor-announce/2013-August/000089.html More biased articles can be found in popular media articles. Just google "TOR exploit FBI"
    ISSUE:
    Symptoms:
I noticed that turning iFrames OFF in about:config > browser.frames.enabled;false seems to not be working as expected. Iframes are still shown and JavaScript in them is executed. Doesnt work even after resterting Firefox.
    Testing:
I used this pages to test iFrames:
    •http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_iframe
    •http://www.quirksmode.org/iframetest.html
After I turned browser.frames.enabled OFF and restarted I noticed that iFrames are still shown on all 3 pages and JavaScript in them would be executed.
By blocking IFRAMES with NoScript blocking turned ON (you have to turn forbidding IFRAMES on manually in options http://i.imgur.com/7jctoTW.png) I managed to block IFRAMES on google and w3school pages.
!!!Text in iframe "Test page in iframe" on quirksmode test page was still shown even after I have frames turned OFF in about:config and I block all scripts and frames and iframes with NoScript.
If I open same page (http://www.quirksmode.org/iframetest.html) with Opera with iFrames blocked in Preferences, iFrame is not shown at all, browser doesnt even render empty square; but JavaScript in it is executed, if you dont disable JavaScript in Preferences > Advanced.
I didnt test Chrome at all.
Possible things that can cause bug:
•I am using NoScript 2.6.7, I turned it off and on but it is possible that it is overriding Firefox settings in about:config. when you serach about:config for "frames" there are many settings mentioning frames from NoScript and AdBlockPlus.
•AdBlock Plus 2.3.2? Same reason as NoScript.
•Fot the first time I noticed Shield in the address bar with "Firefox has blocked content that isnt secure" bubble. http://i.imgur.com/K4FL65n.png. I dont know how long this feature is implemented or what exactly it does, here are some details: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-does-content-isnt-secure-affect-my-safety?as=u&utm_source=inproduct
P.S. Just small remark. If that is true: "Finally, Firefox 23 removes the option to disable JavaScript from the Options pane — and if you had JavaScript turned off, it has been turned back on." There should be some warning when Firefox is updated that JS was turned ON. I think that for me FF updated silently without any messages. OR maybe I blatantly closed some windows, i dont remember well.

The documentation I find on browser.frames.enabled is very vague, but I can't see that it does anything currently. Is this a feature you used successfully in an earlier version?
The Mixed [Active] Content Blocker was turned on by default in Firefox 23. That would explain the shield icon. Not sure whether implementing that might have changed how iframes are handled.

  • Trying to access ADP site, it's a secured site, but after clicking a specific link where displays a frae, it doesn't show the contents.

I use ADP site to see payslips, most pages under ADP site work fine; however, the payslip page won't come up right. A little bit of the page appears but the frame in the middle of the page is blank.

If content is missing or otherwise not working then check if there is a shield icon on the left end of the location bar before the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar indicating that mixed content is blocked.

  • Using latest version of fireFox to access Think Central, pages will not load and they say that this is a security issue with FireFox?

Teachers in our district are supposed to use www.thinkcentral.com with FireFox.
Some have no problem accessing the lesson plans.
Most when they login click on a lesson plan and an icon shows up that says loading but never does.
If you reboot the computer and login you can open a page once but not a second time and no other lessons will open.
Think Central support says this is a security issue with Firefox.
I have updated FireFox, all the Adobe, Reader, Flash, Air and Shockwave. As well as Java.
I have allowed the pop ups to the think Central web site.
    Any help would be appreciated

Are there any notification icons on the left end of the address bar? If so, please click them to see whether they related to security issues (such as blocked content - shield icon: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]) or a plugin requiring permission (Lego-like icon).
Does Think Central have any help pages about this issue? Without an account, it is difficult to explore the issue first-hand.

  • Cant View Part of My Banks Bill Payer Section

This began about a month ago. I was on my banks website and went to the Bill Payer tab. The page has 2 sections. The first, which is on the left side, lists each of my credit cards and any editing I may want to do to delete etc. That list is fine and displays properly.
The Pending Payment list is on the right side of the page in a box. This list enables me to go in and change the monthly payment amount and due date. That list is only partially viewable. The entire list has shifted to the right and it is impossible to see/change amounts etc, Below that list is a list called "Past Payment" which is fine.
I called my banks tech support. No changes have been made that would throw only part of the display off. They tried the usual...they asked if I was able to grab part of the box and pull it back to the left etc. No luck. They asked what browser Ii was on and I said Firefox. They suggested I try IE (which I still haev installed). I did and the display was perfect. They believe the problem lies in Firefox and they just couldnt figure out what it might be. Can anyone help?

This is hard to solve without seeing the page, but here are some general comments.
    '''Firefox 23 Mixed Content Block'''
Assuming this site worked in Firefox 22, check for a "shield" icon to the left of the URL in the address bar. If you see one, this article describes what it means and your options: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]
    '''Obsolete Cached Files or Cookies'''
While viewing a page on the site, use either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?

  • Script won't run in firefox but does in IE, chrome and safari

i have a landing page with a web form script, www.wholewoman.com/newpages/landing/helpforcystocele.html. the script does not show up in firefox. further, none of our videos (served from kaltura (CDN) show up in firefox. nor does the registration script for our drupal forum. the good news is there are a lot of firefox users in the world. the bad news is that none of them can opt into my list, watch my videos or register for my forum. help!

As posted already, your problem has nothing to do with CSP, but with blocking active mixed content.
You can see that there is a shield icon on the left end of the location bar before the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar indicating that mixed content is blocked.

  • After deleteing Custom CSS and Custom Functions, cannot get FireFox to recognize audio player. Works in IE and Safari. Site is https and using bluehost.

Using the Genesis Framework on my WordPress site. I can use Safari and IE. However, when I try to use Fire Fox, it will not appear. I deleted all of my Custom CSS and Functions. Still, nothing is working. Contacted bluehost, the representative there was not able to help me out and also emailed CD Baby to see what might work. I am not sure if it is something with my site using HTTPS instead of HTTP of why this is not working? I am told the plugin works on Fire Fox but I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on. Also changed themes and used Twenty Thirteen among others. Still the same thing. Fire Fox will not work. Tried in Text widget, and pasting on a page, and still not working. IE and Safari it is fine. Do I need to add something else within my site? Thanks ahead of time for any way to solve this situation.

There is mixed active content loaded in an iframe that Firefox is blocking as you can see by the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar.

What is causing this new tab to appear?

Hi Davideig, the main differences you'll notice between Firefox 19 and Firefox 24 are:
    * Private browsing is now window-by-window and you open a private window from the File menu instead of opening a private session from the Tools menu. More info: [[Private Browsing - Browse the web without saving information about the sites you visit]].
    * Page content is automatically zoomed to your Windows zoom level (this is especially noticeable on Windows 8 where Windows comes set to 125% instead of 100%, but could affect you if you changed the default setting). If that makes content too big, check out this article: [[Webpages are large and blurry after updating Firefox - how to fix]].
    * Pages that embed insecure (HTTP) content in secure (HTTPS) pages will have a blank area and a new "shield" icon will appear to the left of the URL in the address bar. More info: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]
    * Due to a folder restructuring, some older plugins may disappear. To have Firefox continue to check the old location, see this article: [[Windows Media or other plugins stopped working after Firefox update]].

  • Illustrator cs6 is getting error 1 continuously!

    Hi,
Yeh, I know the topic is just old and everyone has spoken about it but my problem is different.
I have DELL Latitude E6410 32 bit and my Adobe Illustrator cs6 is just giving me error 16 on normal double clicking and error 1 on run as administrator. I installed, re-installed, re re installed and re re re re... installed but nothing happens.. Everytime when I install it works fine but certainly the next day error shows up.
Note: I have Adobe Photoshop cs6 too and its just perfectly working fine.. I can see a small shield icon attached with PS logo on desktop but couldn't get shield icon with Illustrator cs6... I think Adobe illustrator is not working with admin and that's why problem is occurring..

    Please don't disappoint me please..
