Shift Apple 4

When I use the shift Apple 4 to take a screen shot, the image always saves as a .png.
How do I get my Mac to automatically save as .jpg please???

You can change to jpg. Look at this link. http://guides.macrumors.com/TakingScreenshots_in_Mac_OSX

  • Pitch shift Apple Loops

I am a Logic newbie, wondering the easiest way to pitch shift Apple Loops in Logic Pro 8. Its very simple in GarageBand, am I missing something?

In the Inspector window of your Loop you will find the Transpose function +/-12 semitones. Some Loops (mainly Sound FX and cheezy Jingle music stuff) can´t be transposed though.
L8 also comes with two pitch shifters to be found in your Plugin Library

If your objective is to get into the recovery partition, try COMMAND + R keys.
    Ciao.
If you are still on Leopard OSX, it will not work.

  • Taking a screen shot (shift apple 4)

This feature always worked fine until today when i tried it when ever i moved the mouse the picture target started flashing in and out, disappearing. This is not a major problem, but it is extremely annoying to use now. Anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

I believe I saw this on my other MBP. It's annoying but something I can live with. I think it has something to do with the 10.5.7 graphic part of the update.

  • After 10.5.2 upgrade, machine hangs on boot at grey apple/spinning dial

Leopard has been installed and running for 5 months on an external 160G iomega USB drive on my intel macbook pro.
Last night, I took the 10.5.2 upgrade, it downloaded and installed everything, then asked to "Restart", and during reboot, it did some stuff, then I think requested to restart again, and now it won't boot.
On boot the gray apple comes up, the little dashed dial spinner goes round and round, the disk light blinks like its booting for about 10 seconds, then it just stops.
If I take off the USB drive, I can boot my old Tiger system off the internal just fine. Just the Leopard install has been bricked.
This happened once when I had Tiger on an external firewire LACIE drives; I took an update, and the system would no longer boot.
Seems like Apple needs to do a better job testing upgrades with systems installed on external drives.. this is pretty depressing to loose everything just doing an upgrade.
Does anyone know what this is?
Is there any magic key sequence I can use to debug what's going wrong on boot?
I tried Shift-Apple-V to try to get a verbose boot going, but apparently the hang is too early in the boot process.

You might use the terminal command:
    dmesg
    to see the boot process.
I have Leopard 10.5.2 with the latest security update running on three Macs, two MBPs and an old dual G5. No problems, so I cannot agree that has to do with an update. I believe it is due to 3rd pary apps, old drivers, etc.
I have never had a problem with any of the Apple software or updates. I conclude that the problems must be related to 3rd party apps, etc., and not to the actual Apple software, or else I would be experiencing the same problems, which I am not. And I don't believe in luck

  • What is the Opposite of "Apple-Z"?

Feel totally incompetent, if Apple-Z goes "back," what is key command to go forward? I can't believe I can't figure this out!
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1 gig machine, with a gig of ram.

If you are referring to the Undo & Redo commands they are the following:
    Undo: Apple Key + Z
    Redo: Shift + Apple Key + Z
    Hope this helps,

  • DNG time shift in Aperture

I've had this problem for a while and the latest updates have not addressed it... when I convert my .cr2 files to .dng, the image date on the .dng file moves back 15 hours from the original. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?

Here's an explanation of what may be happening:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7143643&#7143643
I've been playing around with it and it doesn't seem to be that the exif data is changed to a new date. So the above answer seems to hold true.
The strange thing is that if you do the conversion within Adobe Lightroom (Metadata -> Update DNG Preview & Metadata) the date is fine in Aperture. Though that might be because I only had the image file referenced in Aperture. So the date change is made when importing to Aperture.
I'm guessing the only easy way around this is to change the time in Aperture (Metadata -> Adjust Date and Time...) but that doesn't seem to change the master version if an image is in the Aperture Library. Though it worked if it was referenced.
Finally I tried a batch change (shift + apple + B) where you can specify timezone and seems the easiest for multiple images.
All this is doing my head in as I'm still not sure what we are changing and where.

hi, my drop down Apple menu is not opening (when shutting down i must use the manual button and not the menu). all other menus open and function perfectly. the only other strange item that i have going is the "new mail" icon is not showing up in the oval when sending email......
two strange things that i have not been able to resolve. thanks so much in advance for any help that anyone has to offer.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I would recommend you use the Accounts System Preferences to create a brand new user. Then log out (you can use shift-Apple-q to log out without the Apple menu) and log in as the new user. Does the Apple menu work for the new user? If so, then your user has a preference file or setting that's causing the problem. If not, then you have a system-wide or hardware issue. Let us know what you find out from this troubleshooting step and we'll try to help from there.

  • My Art work on I-tunes doesn't match

    Hi. Hope you can help.
Not sure if this is going to mean anything to you but I'll do my best.
I've made my I-tunes look like a jukebox with my artwork(Hope that makes sense?)
My problem is, the artwork that is corrent isn't showing up as the right cover on the jukebox.
IE: For Razorlight's album I have sorted the right album cover BUT on the jukebox it says the cover is for their single "Somewhere Else"
I've tried to delete the cover from the jukebox but it won't allow me to do so
It's really bad because even on the I-tunes folders it knows what the actual cover is but won't let me chance it?
Hope that made some sort of sense. Any help would be brilliant.
    Thanks

Hold shift, Apple and 3 and this will copy what is on the screen as a .png (image) file.
The Cover View should have one album cover square in the middle with the others sideways on the sides. Maybe you have several songs in a row that have a slight difference in the artist information or album title that makes them appear as different albums.
Note the artist differences on the same album and the same album cover art for the tracks.

  • How do I add a page (or two) of "text" to and iPhoto 6 book

I'm creating a book for my dog that passed away and would like to add a few pages of text, like a story. Non of the templates let me do this. Help please.

If your template allows you to set a page to "Introduction", you can use that for a full page of text.
OR, create your entire page in Photoshop or whatever your favorite tool is. You would add the photos and the text there, all at once and then import it into iPhoto as one large picture. (I set the pixel size to 2048x1536 and the dpi to 272 to get it to come out right.) Then, choose the full-page photo spread and move your photo there.
(I've also had success taking a "picture" of MS word docs, etc. using the SHIFT-Apple-4 keys, but you have to make sure that the proportions are right or iPhoto will "correct".

  • Time Machine and mounted sparse bundle disk image - file by file backup?

I think I had this system working in Leopard, but upon upgrade to Snow Leopard it seems to have broken. Does anyone have any idea how I can get Time Machine to back up the contents of a mounted sparse bundle disk image in real time - file by file within the disk image? For example, I have a 2GB sparse bundle disk image that i keep all of my bank statements/files/records in. It auto-mounts on boot and stays mounted. I use the disk image to keep it password-protected, so if I unmount it it is fairly safe. In Leopard, I would exclude the .sparseimage file from backup, but it would still backup the mounted image itself on a file-by-file basis, so I could enter Time Machine and explore the image folder by folder, file by file (say I deleted an old bank statement by mistake, I could go into time machine and recover as if it were a normal file/folder).
In Snow Leopard, after a clean install, and creating a new sparse bundle disk image and excluding the .sparsebundle file, I can't seem to get this to work even though the image is mounted. Is there any way to trick Time Machine into backing up the mounted image as it would any other folder? I know I can back up the .sparsebundle file incrementally but in order to recover a lost document I'd have to remount the old bundle and that seems rather roundabout.
    Thanks,

I think you're trying to bypass the finder to mount the disk. Try this (I'll bold the key steps):
    - *Turn off Time Machine* in the System Preferences.
    - Option A: If you directly use a hard disk (not wireless) that has the sparsebundle you want to open, *connect the disk* but don't double click on the sparsebundle.
    - Option B: If you are using wireless, this means use shift-command-k (or shift-apple-k), and if it says "Connect As..." in the upper right instead of disconnect, then use that button to *connect to that wireless drive*.
    - Confirm the sparsebundle shows in that folder before proceeding...
    - *Open Terminal* (Applications>Utilities>Terminal.app)
    - Type: *hdiutil attach -noverify* (<-- notice a *space " "* must be included after typing this here but *DON'T hit return* yet.)
    - *Drag the sparsebundle to the cursor in terminal*, and it should fill in something like /Volumes/HardDrive/COMPUTERNAME.sparsebundle for you. Now you can hit return, and the disk will mount.
    - After you are done browsing sparsebundle's mounted image, *eject the mounted disk* like you would any other disk (not the sparsebundle image itself, just the disk icon that appeared if you successfully mounted it).
    - Turn *Time Machine back on* in the System Preferences.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screenshots save as png not pdf

Screenshots (using shift+apple+4) save as png files instead of pdf.
Png blows; they're fuzzy, unreadable and generally makes the handiness of screenshot a waste of time
Someone suggested using the new GRAB feature but it's no better.
Anyone know how to get a fast, crisp screenshot that is actually usable.
    I'm using CS3 Mac OSX v10.5.2
    BRING BACK SCREENSHOTS AS PDF....PLEASE!

    Linda;
There's a great maintenance app called Onyx: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11582
Once you install the software, open Onyx and under the Parameters menubar option, you will see on the right hand side an option called "Screen Capture Format". There you can select almost a dozen formats, one of them being PDF. Save the setting, close the application and you should be able to save all your screen capture shots in PDF format. This app is free. Cheers.

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupted file while save to OS X 10.5 Server

    Hello
We have or Leopard OS X Server running for months. Running CS3 Clients on 10.4.11 without any problems.
A couple of weeks ago we swapped to 10.5 Clients and all Photoshop where corrupted when using "save", the "save as" works fine. After some discussions with the Adobe Support we decided to upgrade all our clients to CS4 (very expensive, while we own CS3.3 only for 5 months now)
The Same problem occured with CS4 Photoshop. After again a discussion with Adobe Support whe switched of VersionCue support within the Preferences of Photoshop. This solves the problem for our G5 Based Machine, but all the Intel-Based machines are still corrupting the Photoshop files.
Has some experienced the same problem? Is their a bugfix our a workaround. The Problem is that using "apple-S" key is an automatic mechanism for our people for your now, you can't switch the mind in days to use "shift-apple-S" Key
Discussing the Problem with Adobe and Apple is very frustrating, they both say it is not their problem or bug but from the other.
For me Adobe should fix this bug. They offer CS4 for Leopard so they should be aware of incompatibilities with the Leopard System
Who is able to help us? Are there some workarounds
    Regards
    Gérard

It's a shame that a company who sells CS4 license for more then CHF 3500 (US$ 2500) isn't able to support the standard FileServer of Apple 10.5. In different forums I found hunderds of entries of people who has the same problem saving photoshop direct to the server under CS3 and CS4.
A workaround is a solution for a new system but OS X 10.5 Server is availible for more then 14 months now. Why didn't they debug it and solve it, the should have enough resources to solve this. I read the problem also occured on some Microsoft 2003 Server but not all.
No Bugfix? Has someone experienced or this is a MS or Apple Server Bug, or morelikely a Adobe CS3/CS4 Bug.
    Regards
    Gérard
As long as we have no Sync Tools as Connextic "FileAgent" under OS9 I refuse to work localy. We lose to many time to sort out the whole Hierachie of all the Folder that need to be modified!

  • Menu Bar and Dock not showing up on my 43" TV.....can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

The resolution seems a bit low - are you totally SOL or can you navigate enough from the keyboard or mouse to try to change the resolution from the Displays preference pane? (Selecting detect display followed by trying other resolutions might help the mini feed the TV the correct signal.) Also - be sure your HDTV is not "zooming" the picture. My sony has one mode where it cuts of the top and bottom of a "normal" picture to zoom and fill the width of the wide screen without changing the relative DPI of the horizontal/vertical signal. (i.e. The mini might not be the problem at all)
I can walk you through some things if you are handy with the keyboard and flying half-blind if needed.
If you have another mac (or even a PC) and a network it would be best to enable Apple Remote Desktop on the mini and use a VNC client (http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/ or http://www.realvnc.com/ only if you are not using Mac to access the mini.)
That way you can see what you are doing to twiddle with the settings and fix things up.
If that doesn't work, I would reboot the mini and hope it detects the screen better on power up.
(press everything to the left of the => and I'll add notes to the right of the => in case things are not clear what is going on.)
Apple + Tab => to tab through to the finder. If you can't see the apps - simply quit everything and you will be left in the finder. (repeat while holding down the Apple key - tab - tab - q - tab - tab -q repeat until you hear beeps each time you hit the q)
Shift + Apple + U => will bring up the utilities folder
T => will jump to Terminal
Apple + o => will open the terminal
sudo shutdown -r now => will ask you for your password after you hit enter, so type in your log in password, and the mini will reboot.
If you still have problems - we can perhaps think up a way to walk you though changing the settings. I for one will have to look up how to use the accessability (mouse keys, etc...) if needed. Of course - if you have a spare monitor - move to that until you have Remote Desktop working reliably...

This is a solvable problem, and indeed a number of networks work just fine with remote access and saving. But it requires your experienced IT to deal with it -- to understand the particular issues with your network and how to solve them on your end. Changing an OS and its network settings, computers, software, routers and switches and their settings, cabling, other network hardware or software or their settings can affect how reliably files can be accessed and saved to a server.
As Adobe has said for years, there are just far too many network variables for Adobe to guarantee that saving to a network will always work. So they recommend: drag the file to the local volume. Work locally. Save locally. Drag the file back to the server.
