Shift-F6 won't feather in Photoshop

Just bought a new macbook pro. I have CS4 on it. On old macbook I used a short cut to feather selections in photoshop (shift-F6). However, it won't work on the macbook pro. Instead, the pro ignores that shift button and just acts like I want to increase the keyboard illumination. Help on this one?

Hi Montes,
To make your F-Keys behave for Non-Apple Apps, go to System Prefs/Keyboard and in the Keyboard tab (as opposed to the Keyboard Shortcuts tab), tic the box that says "Use all F1, F2, etc keys as standard function keys." AS it says below, you will then have to press the FN key to access such controls as screen brightness, sound volume, etc, via the F-Keys. This will give you back all your Photoshop F-Keys. Pretty sure.

  • Canon CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I'm using a Canon EOS 600D (aka EOS Kiss X5), Photoshop CS4 (ver 11.0.1) with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213.
CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop, though the thumbnails are clearly visible and open in Windows Explorer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Yes, absolutely all of the quality and dynamic range is retained in the DNG, because it is still raw data.
Outside of upgrading to Photoshop CS5, which can open your files directly with Camera Raw 6.4.1, your only choice is the extra step of converting the .CR2 files to .DNG with the free DNG converter.
While you'll get all the quality your Camera Raw 5.x converter can deliver, you should keep in mind the Camera Raw 6.x converter has an entirely new, additional "2010 process" for converting raw images, which (depending on your settings) can actually deliver a higher quality conversion than the one you're getting with Photoshop CS4.  I think it's worth the cost of the Photoshop upgrade, personally.

  • Organizer won't open in Photoshop Elements 10. Says it is in use by another program.

Organizer won't open in Photoshop Elements 10. Says it is in use by another program.
This just started happening.... When I open Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 in Windows 7 and click on Organizer to open my catalog, I get a message that reads, " The catalog could not be opened because it is currently in use by another program." I know of no other program. I do backup my pictures with a Seagate backup external drive. How can I resolve this so I can work with my pictures again. Could this have anything to do with Adobe's switch to Adobe Revel?

Have you tried restarting the computer?

My Images won't open in Photoshop CS5 when I click on Edit in Lightroom - even though this option has been selected?  To edit in Photoshop I have to export image from Lightroom then import into Photoshop.  I have other programmes such as NIK and if I wish to edit in these everything works fine.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1  Lightroom is version 5.7  Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
FWIW, I also can't automate>Photomerge ... . Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky. I tried dumping PS preferences

  • Keyboard Shortcuts Conflict. Shift F6 Changed from Feather to Flip

I have been using Shift+F6 to acquire Feather in Select>Modify. Suddenly, instead of Feather, the selection flipped. A bit of mucking around found that Shift+F6 is assigned to Actions>Flip, and it makes sense  because it actually is Flip Horizontal whilw Shift F7 is flip Vertical.
Checking Keyboard Shortcuts does have Shift+F6 assigned to Feather. I deleted it and tried to reassign it to Shift+F6 but Shortcuts would't allow it as Actions takes precedence.
So, I deleted it from Actions, but how did it get there? I was in the middle of setting up a new Action which did use the Feather Command but when I invoked it in the Record Mode, it flipped instead.
I do not recall having set Shift+F6 to either function. Logically, it seems to belong to Actions, but I have been using it as Feather since installing CS5.
If this is a know bug, are there any other Shortcuts that have unresolved conflicts or worse, arbitrary points where the command goes elswhere than what you expect?
Hmmm, Feather and Flip are both F words!

Did you load up the Commands actions set (which contains the Flip actions) from the fly-out menu at some point recently?  They're not normally installed in the Actions panel by default.

  • Shift+ Tab won't undo tab

Shift +tab won't undo tab.  How do I fix it?

I do not know..For an example...if you are in Word or Pages and you press tab to indent..I used to press Shift and then tab to undo such indent if it isn't what I was going for in the page set up.  When I press the combination, it no longer undos the indent, it keeps indenting.  Howver, the shift works to capitalize a letter and the tab works to indent normally.
try command Z to undo your tab indent in Pages.

  • .CR2 files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I recently got CS4 Extended version of Photoshop and need to work on my RAW files, but they won't open. I can see the thumbnails in Bridge and when I try to open them Photoshop says they're "not the right type of document"...so...not sure what to do. I've done a ton of research and cannot figure out why these files are unable to open. I need help!

I've had the same problem recently and worked on the solution this morning.  I havn't read the full info stream here, but can tell you what finally worked for me today.
I also have CS4, and recently bought a Canon 7D.  My .CR2 files would not open, due to proprietay issues with the new camera.
I first had to buy a download of WinZip, since I wasn't able to open any download from Adobe.  The WinZip was about $30.  Next, I went back to Adobe/downloads/updates and used Find Product Updates menu.  I found the compatable update of RAW plug in was 5.7 for our CS4 version.  I clicked the link to this download, and began the process by clicking Save.  I then went to the Download folder and found the file from Adobe in the WinZip folder.  At this point I went back to the Adobe download site and printed out the download instructions concerning where to find the old plug in, what to do with it, and how to install the newer downloaded plug in.
After all this, I opened CS4, Bridge, located my first .CR2 file, and it worked just fine.  I was also able to convert these .CR2 files, once opened, to DNG files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lightroom 5.6 "Edit in" with merge won't work with Photoshop Elements 13

I just installed Photoshop Elements 13 to edit photos from Lightroom. A single file will via "Edit in" will work, but all action on multiple files end in "could not start editor", even though the editor does start, it just won't open up any photos. Photomerge will work from files opened in Photoshop Elements, but i really don't want to organize my catalogue in both programs.
All combinations of export settings result in the same, i also deleted my settings again and tested it with another account on my computer.

None of my "Edit In" worked with the pictures in Lightroom for a particular folder. I expanded the 2014 folder and found that two subfolders had a "?" in front of the 2014-07-04" and another. In other words, the folder was missing. After I found the missing folders using the Lightroom "Find Missing Folder" option, I was able to use the "Edit In" menu item. The 2014 folders weren't expanded at first, so I didn't see the ? marks in front of them. With the missing folders, Lightroom's "Edit In" option was basically telling me there was no picture to "Edit In." Howerver, I have Previews and Smart Previews made when I import picture files into Lightroom. So, the "pictures" showed in the slide strip on the bottom, and also in the display in "expand," but it was actually only showing the previews I had built, not the actual missing pictures in the missing folders. I had accidentally moved some directories using Windows Explorer, and I didn't realize my "happy fingers" moved them outside of Lightroom. Of course, Lightroom has no way of knowing I moved them, and just shows the "?" before the missing folder name. After expanding the root folder, then knew what to do. Fixed it easily. It was frustrating, and took about 20 minutes to see the problem. And that fixed the greyed-out "Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014, and all the other plug-ins were greyed out too.
    Hope this fixes your problem.

  • Image Capture won't scan to Photoshop

I just downloaded Lion (10.7.2) and everything works fine, except ...
When scanning through Image Capture, it won't open the scanned images in Photoshop (CS4) when set to do so. It will open in any other program I try (Preview, Illustrator, etc ...) but not Photoshop.
When I scan an image with PS set as the "scan to" app, Photoshop will open, but it doesn't open the image.  Instead, Image Capture opens a "scan results" dialog box with the name of the image and a magnifying glass icon that shows me that the image has been saved in my "pictures" folder.  I'm clearly choosing the PS app, and not the PS folder in Image Capture, but for some reason it doesn't know what to do with the image when it gets there. Again, the PS app OPENS, but the image doesn't. It just dumps it in the "pictures" folder.
By all accounts, Photoshop seems to be working properly. I can click on a scanned image and open it with Photoshop manually. Scanned images just won't open in PS automatically through Image Capture like they used to before I upgraded to Lion.
I tried rebooting and repairing permissions just for the heck of it, but those did nothing.  Image Capture has no problem recognizing my scanner (Brother MFC 6490CW) and I made sure to download the latest driver for it.
I'm really at a loss as to why this is occuring.  If anyone has a theory, I'd love to hear it.  Scanning stuff into Photoshop is my job basically, so this is driving me crazy.

I can duplicate that behaviour, best file it as a Bug with Apple if you have a Developer ID ?
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
I will file it also and see what response I get.
BR filed: I note that in testing this if I set the Import To selector to Preview, Mail and iPhoto it behaves as expected so it's possible this is an Adobe issue not an Apple one. Might be worth looking in their support forums to see if anyone elase has this and has found a work-around.

  • CR2 files won't open in Photoshop CS2

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and my Photoshop CS2 software won't open these images. CR2 is listed in the Raw file format but selecting Raw doesn't open them. I have downloaded the latest Raw update. I am using windows. Can anyone help me??? Many thanks, Patricia

If you have CS2 the latest version should be ACR 3.7.
ACR 4.x is only for CS3. If you download the 3.7 ACR and install it correctly ( be sure to follow the instructions precisely!) you should be OK.

  • Video frame won't open in Photoshop CS6

I recently upgraded to CS6 and am having a problem with Photoshop.
In my previous version (CS5.1) I could drag a single frame of video from a .mov file and drop it onto my Photoshop icon and Photoshop would open that frame as new document.
But now in CS6 when I try to do this I get the following error:
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
Why won't this work now in CS6?
I'm on a Mac Pro, 12-core Intel with 24 gig of ram.  Everything updated and licensed.
    Thanks.

    Hi Meredith,
I'll try attaching a little video, showing what I'm talking about.  But here's a bit more detail.
I used to be able to open a Quicktime movie, scrub to a particular frame, and then drag that frame from the QT player onto the Photoshop icon in my dock and it would open in Photoshop as a new document.
The document would have the name "Movie Clipping", and it would just contain that single frame.
This worked regardless of the QT file's codec (H264, AppleProRes, Animation... etc.)
But when I try this drag and drop from the QT player onto the CS6 Photoshop icon, it always errors.
Hopefully this video attachment will work.  Thanks for your help.
