Shift marker by subframes

Is it possible to shift a marker less than 1 frame? I want to shift a clip about 80ms to synchronize it better with another clip.

You can shift a marker down the timeline, move it later in time, but not earlier in time. The marker has to be on a frame, so you can adjust it 1/25 of a second. Video is counted only in frames, not in time.

Photo Import: cannot select some pictures in a row except I select all pictures

LR 4.4 (Apple): if I try to import photos from my iphone or SD Card --> I can select ALL photos. If I deselect ALL photos and try to select some photos then some photos are selectable, some not (somehow automatically "greyed out"). I tried with marking 1 photo and SHIFT + marking other photo. No success.
Is LR maybe deselecting photos if they are not sharp?

I think I have this figured out... I have a folder '11-24-2011' and another folder labeled '2011-11-24'. The folder that is not displayed is a subset of the pictures in the other (displayed) folder, so I think these are duplicates. Not sure how or why this other folder got created, but oh well...

Working with a batch of measurements

Recently switched to Diadem 9 and finding the new navigator layout with it's data portal. I'm often Working and analyzing many measurements with the same signal names in View. In the new portal I can load all the measurement. After looking on the first measurement I would like to check the next one just by clicking on it in the Internal data portal and that view updates with the new signals. Is this feature available.

Spending some days now with the portal I must say I can't cope with it. Maybe I miss the whole idea and how to work with it. In my work I deal with many measurements each with hundreds of signals from CAN buses, I'm first interesting in taking a first glance and then maybe dig deeper into the signals. Then the portal give me some extra work compared with 8.0. If I want to look on another measurement 9.1 has added the extra need of deleting the file from the portal, answering the question Yes I want to delete it before I can open the new file. Small things but anoying in the long run. Your suggestion to use multi sheet was grounded becase it was not possible to copy the layout from one sheet to another. Also difficult to keep track on what measurement is displayed in the view window. No connection between the bold current measurement in the portal and what is seen in the window. Anoying is also when loading new measurements the signal tree is always open. Haven't found a place where I can decide my self.
Checking out the report wizard you also get disapointed with the fact that all signals are checked for display in the report. if you want 6 signal out of 150 then it's not an option to mark 144 signals separatly with no. Where is the possibility to shift- mark all the not needed signals.
So Brad this is some comments and as I said in the begining maybe I got it wrong. Maybe you can explain the idea behind how to work with the portal.
I have also started to dig into the VBS script to get it the way I want it. But my time and skills are on short so it will take some time to solve it. But I think this is the strength of Diadem that you can do almost everything with the script.

MacBook Pro 13 2010 running Mountain Lion: will not boot and shows a folder with a flashing question mark. Will not start in 'safe mode' i.e holding shift on start up - nor can I call up any utilities with the OSX shortcuts. Any thoughts?

Following an automatic update, the machine wouldn't boot. Screen came on (shows white) - then either showed a 'No-Entry' Sign and a spinning cog, or a folder with a qusetion mark. I tried to start the machine in different modes ( eg. holding shift after the tone ) but nothing worked. after leaving the machine alone for 1 hour. It worked perfectly again. I did a 'verify disk' check which found no problems. 2 hours later it then froze ( In - Photoshop). Could not force quit, so shut down, and have not been able to boot again since (white lit screen - flashing folder with question mark) . I have also taken the hard drive out and checked the connections which seem fine. Any suggestions? - Is the Hard Drive dead. : other info : It was also running parallels 8, with Windows 7. at the time of the update....

I have a Nokia E72 that was purchased from Dubai. All default languages are changed now to English. Even the "Writing Language" is in English. But when I type a text message, the keyboard key for the question mark (shift + L) comes up in Arabic. Is there a way to change this (either a quick fix or one going through the OS) to permanently appear in English?

5D Mark II fault: shifted CMOS sensor???

1 year old 5D Mark II began little by little to do front focusing with all the lenses. I took it local authorized Canon service center.
At first I thought that maybe only AF calibration may be needed. But after couple of days I got message, that "CMOS sensor moved/shifted from it's place", so service center first will have to "put back in place CMOS sensor" and then to do the AF calibration.
How's that possible?? I looked to camera drawings and I don't see ways that sensors can be moved from place. Especially when camera was never dropped and was used very carefully. Talked with service center and they state that it is possible and they told that "have info directly from Canon" that under certain angles even by soft punch/bump CMOS sensor can be shifted from it place.
Anyone got similar situation or knowledge is that really possible
For me it sounds unbelievable ...

I've never heard of this before, BUT... the sensor is mounted on shims which are "factory" adjustable (the shims are not accessible to end-users -- significant disassembly is required and definitiely lands squarely in the "attempting to do this on your own may destroy your camera" category.)
The shims allow manufacturing to make sure the sensor is mounted parallel to a focus calibration target. Otherwise you'd have issues where the top of the image is in focus but the bottom is out of focus or the right side is in focus but the left side is not, etc. (BTW... this exact scenario happened to the Nikon D800 which, for a time, had a number of models being mis-calibrated. The error turned out to be a focus calibration target at the plant which was not mounted parallel to the camera's focus plane.) Anyway... these shims would not normally move all on their own. I would think the camera would have needed to take a hard smack at some point.
The AF sensors are on the "floor" of the camera body. They are supposed to be mounted and calibrated such that the distance to the AF points (when the mirror is down) and the distance to the sensor (when the mirror is up) are the same -- thus insuring that when the AF points "think" the image should be focused... it really is focused.
I do not know to what extent the AF points can be adjusted mechanically but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that they might also be mounted on shims.
It is likely that you would only need to have the camera sensor shimmed in correctly -- but this is something Canon service can do.

Right shift key makes quotation mark

All of a sudden, when I hit my right shift key, I get a quotation mark. I haven't changed any settings and can't figure out why it's doing it.
Can anyone help?

Because for some reason the key is pressing on the switch of the key next to it (which is slash/questionmark).
Try flicking it with your finger. The one next to it as well.
If it doesn't work and you aren't affraid of damaging your keys, try popping off both keys (with a plastic knife or something similar) and see if maybe there's something lodged in there.

Thanks for prompt response - I tried what you suggested but I'm afraid it has not helped. It seems as though the line of number keys along the top aren't actually doing what is printed on them. Some are OK, but the further towards the right hand side of the keyboard you go, the less predicatable it becomes. So whilst the second key from the left gives me 1 and ! when holding the shift key, by the time I get to the 6 when I press and hold shift I get ^ rather than & symbol which is what is actually printed on the key. The & symbol is actually on the next key along - and when I hit the key with 8 I get * rather than the ( which is printed on they key but actually located on the next key along. Things get even more muddled by the time I am over on the right hand side as rather than a question mark (I have had to type the word as I cannot find the symbol anywhere!) I get this _ and the other symbol marked on the key is a comma, but I get - instead. It is going to drive me mad if every time I want to type something it is a guessing game....! What do you suggest - question mark

I am guessing they have been caused by dirt between the cover and the rear of the phone; but that is despite me cleaning the back and the inside of the back cover regularly. Has anyone else had the same?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Subframe Audio Editing

I have a sequence that includes the following: a multiclip video (2 angles), and two audio tracks (both stereo). None of these clips are linked. One of the audio tracks is in perfect sync with the video. The other is off by about half of a frame.
All I'm trying to do is move one of the audio clips by half of a frame.
I have searched this forum, read the manual over and over, and I followed the instructions for subframe editing in the viewer. When I do this I can see the audio clip shift half a frame in the viewer. But it does not change a darn thing below in the timeline.
This is the procedure I followed:
To perform an audio subframe slip edit:
1. Open a clip with both video and audio in the Viewer and click the Audio tab.
2. Using the Zoom tool (magnifying glass) in the Tool Palette, zoom in as far as possible. The wide playhead bar in the Viewer represents one video frame at full magnification.
3. Press the Shift key and position the left edge of the playhead where you want to set an In or Out point, using the audio waveform as your guide.
4. Click the Mark In or Mark Out button. The program automatically slips the audio by a subframe amount to the boundary of the previous whole frame.
Note that I can't open both the video and the audio in the viewer at the same time, so I am only opening the audio. This is because I can't seem to open both at the same time. I tried to link the audio clip(s) with the video and it won't allow me to do that either. I am guessing because the video is a multiclip, I don't know.
Any suggestions?

Query to print Which Shift based on the time

Need to sort and sum data based on the shifts in our department....
First shift runs from 4:50 am to 2:45 pm, second shift runs from 3:00 pm to 1:00 am and any time in between is the break time.
I cannot get the data to print first shift , break time and second shift correctly

In everyday speech, when we hear "Between 3:00 PM and 1:00 AM", we understand that it means one range of 10 consecutive hours. That's not how the SQL BETWEEN operator works, however. "x BETWEEN y AND z" in SQL is exactly equivalent to "x >= y AND x <= z". If y < z, it never be TRUE.
Here's one way to do what you want:

The problem with that is that, as far as SQL is concerned, going just by HH24:MI:SS, the Second shiift is two disjoint periods, and you have to test for each one separately. The query above reverses the last two tests:
(1) see if it's First Shift
(2) if not (1), see if it's Break Time
(3) if not (1) or (2), it must be Second Shift
It would be a little more coding, but perhaps clearer, to do it this way

Don't forget to mention which version of Oracle you're using. In this example, it may not matter. (The query above will work in Oracle 8.1 or higher.) But it never hursts o say something like "I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.3.0".

How do you mark your 'in' point with the keyboard?

I know you can mark the first frame of your selection by hitting the mouse button but I find I press the spacebar to start previewing the source footage and stop the playhead at just the right point where my 'in' should be. Now as soon as I move the mouse the playhead jumps to a different part of the clip, this results in me losing my 'in' point.
What I want to do is hit the spacebar to stop at just the right point, hit a key to mark my selection, hit spacebar to resume playing and then finally hit shift-A to mark my out. Any ideas?

Could you describe your workflow in producing Quicknotes.
Basically I use a screen/system audio capture application to capture what I am doing in an application along with any audio being produced. There are many such applications available, but I tend to stick with Snapz Pro X which I have been using for years. My somewhat old PPC G5 limits me to captures of about 960x540 at 24 fps. This step, of course takes place in "real time." With iMovie '08, I would had to transcode the captured data to compatible compression formats, but with iMovie '09 it looks like I can go back to using the default Animation video codec which I prefer.
Once the screen captured data is stored to a file, I bring it into iMovie for a quick edit -- usually just a quick trimming of the length, adding a title, and adding simple opening/closing cross-fades. When done, I output the edited content via the "Export Using QuickTime" option -- normally as AIC/AIFF but will likely try Animation/AIFF on my next one. The editing process takes only a few minutes but exporting adds additional time.
At this point I import the edited file to GarageBand for a quick voiceover. I use this approach so I can keep a copy of the iMovie exported file for reuse at some later time. (My original intention was to eventually go back and correct my voiceover mistakes but I never seem to get around to doing this as some new project is always coming up.) For this step I generally use a Blu "Snowball" USB mic. In any case, the voiceover is also in real time. I normally export the finished file using the "Full Quality" mode so as to avoid a further transcoding of the video track. (It also saves time if no video re-compression has to be performed.)
At this point it is merely a matter of targeting my final output. For my web content, I usually use MPEG Streamclip to convert the GarageBand file to an H.264/AAC file with a targeted video data rate of 1.0 Mbps. If I decide to post the file in an MOV file container, I then open the file in QT Pro and set the "poster frame" for iWeb use. If for any reason I wish to preserve the MP4 container, I use iTunes to "poster frame" the file.
As previously implied, I use iWeb to actually post the file. In this case, the tutorials are posted to a separate "Podcast" page collection since the are easy to maintain; allow user comments, RSS notifications (which I've never tested), and searches (also untested). Primarily I liked the ease with which I can duplicate a previously posted video entry and simply drop in the new clip and modify the text changes. Posting the update is, of course, as simple as pressing an icon button and waiting got the upload to finish.
I have completed the work flow in as little as an hour but my average is closer to 90-120 minutes since my wife and/or pets usually want some sort of attention during the process. You may have noted Gracie (a Congo African Grey) or Mango (an Amazon Orange Wing) in the background of some of my voiceovers. And that, as they say, is all there is...

Not really something I ever wanted to do. I have my own MobileMe account, most viewers I'd want to reach are Mac owners and users, so I am not really interested in reaching out to the "world at large."

Macbook Air won't startup, flashing question mark

Hello everyone, here's the problem:
Recently (Sep) I've bought a new macbook air (2012, 128gb SSD). After a few months of using it the following problem happened: while surfing on the web, my macbook hang up (I couldn't press anything or do anything, the system wouldn't respond), so I shut it down forcefully (by holding the power button), after this my computer wouldn't boot at all: a flashing questioning mark appeared on the grey screen. I know what it means (I'm an Intel engineer and know quite a bit on the subject), so I thought the SSD was dead. Brought it to the shop a bought it at (M-video, Russia, Nizhni Novgorod). After 21 day (sic!) they gave it back to me working fine and said that when they opened it - it worked OK, they tested it for 5 days with reboots and it was OK. After 1 month of using it after I got it back (today) it happened again: the OSx hang -> force shutdown -> question mark on startup.
Could you please tell what can it be? It's obvious that it's no a hardware problem (in this case it wouldn't happen from time to time but be a permanent defect after the first time it occurred). I tried all the recipes found on the internet (command + alt + P + R; R to get recovery mode - disk utility sees only 1 partition on disk0 of 1.8 GB (I guess it's partition with the base system) and won't let me do anything - all options are grayed out; SHIFT won't let me into safe mode - no idea why; etc.). I also don't have a CD or anything with the mac OS, however even Internet recovery won't help - no targets to install it when it comes to it.
Have tried almost anything and asked almost anyone among my IT-connected friends, but in vain. Thank you in advance for your help! Will appreciate any piece of advice.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.

CS5 Crop marks don't work in Save For Web

I'm playing in the trial version of Illustrator 5.
I'm having trouble figuring out the crop marks. I select an object and try the various versions of creating crop marks. But when I Save For Web, it does not use the crop marks as a guide to trim the artwork down. The crop marks are visible.
In CS3, which I've used for years, I would create an object and use the crop mark tool to create the marks at the size of my object. When I would Save For Web it would save the file to the exact size of my crop marks, no matter if I had artwork in clipping masks that go outside the crops.
Why does this not work in CS5?

You do speak the truth so in CS 4 and now Cs 5 you instead of drawing a rectangle and the making it into crop marks you simply draw an artboard then when you export you select to use artboards in the export dialog and select the artboard you just made and voilá.
Now before you go crazy this is an advance you can also choose to export all the artboards a range of artboards or a non-contiguous selection of artboards this way.
the difference here is that you draw the artborad which is actually drawing a rectangle and making the crop marks as in the CS 3 all in one opertation
it is really the same feature with lots of features added to it. Including the ability to name the art boards (cropped areas) number them reorder them
manage them in the artboard panel and then the team went farther than that with pasting in place pasting an element on all the artboards at once.
It is really just the crop area feature but with lots of possibilities.
If you need t draw an artboard within another artboard hold down the shift key.
