Shift q is not working

On my new iMac, my son noticed that the left shift will not work with the letter q. I have made sure that any keyboard shortcuts are set to the original defaults. Something is preventing this from working. The shift works with all other keys. The right hand shift works with the q. Any thoughts?

OK, sometimes the simplest answer is the obvious one - the keyboard has an issue, not the computer.

You must enable iTunes Match on the new computer. The best way to accomplish what you want to do is to create a new, empty library by launching iTunes while holding down the Option key (Shift on Windows) and choosing "new library." Do not let iTunes scan for new content, but do enable iTunes Match on the empty library. Once the scan is finished you may delete tracks from the cloud. When you are done switch back to the main iTunes library.

See the above post for more information - here's a synopsis:
CTRL+SHIFT modifiers are not working while running LabVIEW in a Parallels 7 virtual machine. This problem affects both LV2011 and LV2012. I'm not certain that this is a LabVIEW bug - could be an issue with my virtual machine environment or it's configuration - except that CTRL+SHIFT modifiers work in other applications on the affected VMs. It's just LabVIEW that appears to ignore shortcuts with the CTRL+SHIFT modifiers.
Any ideas?

Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. As for your issue, I'm not sure if this is the case, but there is a little know keyboard shortcut to change the keyboard language on Windows. And it's very annoying, since it's easily triggered. I don't know exactly which one it is, but I think it's CTRL+SHIFT, the ones on the right. I suggest you ask Microsoft for support on this one. Firefox doesn't control keyboard languages.

My shift-r, right shift-f, and right shift-v is not working.

I've seen questions in the forum about shift-r not working, I've looked into my system preferences and it appears there are no short cuts associated with shift-r. My right shift-f and right shift-v are not working either. I'm using a new iMac (10.7.2) with the bluetooth keyboard that came with it. If I use caps lock I can get capital R, F and V. It's very strange. I'm assuming it's a setting that's messed up versus a bum keyboard? Thanks for any help you can give!

Good deal, glad it's taken care of. I had a wireless keyboard on which the caps lock key stayed lit all the time, even though it did turn the lock on and off. And sometimes it wouldn't light at all. I took it (just the keyboard) to a local AASP and they checked it out and called to say my new keyboard was ready to be picked up.

Shift factor is not working with Depreciation Base method- 0004

When I am changing shift factor and variable depreciation portion in asset master data. Its not calculating depreciation as per shift factor.
What can be the reason behind it.
Even I have already maintained config in depreciation key also for multiple shift.

Shift factor works only with the variable portion of ordinary depreciation. The variable factor is defined as depreciation area level.
"When you use depreciation with a multiple shift factor, the system
multiplies the variable depreciation portion by the multiple shift factor"
In depreciation area tab of asset master data double click on the depreciation area. You can check the variable portion can be see under "Additional Specifications" tab. If the value is 0 then the shift factor will not work.

Command-shift-4 is not working!

Command-shift-4 is not working for me!
I know that the deafult shortcut for taking screenshots is command-shift-3, but i want to take portion of the screen and that is command-shift-4.
I have tried everything wich is;
1: Log out and restart then login, not working.
2: Repair the permissions, not working.
3: Unchecked the box for shortcut and checkd it again in System preferences > Keybord > Shortcuts, not working.
4: Created a new Admin-account, not working.
5: Resetet PRAM, not working.
6: Reinstalled the whole system, not working.
I will say that this problem only appears in OS X Lion but not in Snow Leopard.
If there is anyone who can help me fix this problem i would be really thankfull.

USB keyboard shift keys suddenly not working

For some reason, when I woke up my MacBook Pro this morning, both shift keys on my aluminium USB keyboard were not working. I'm using the keyboard with a Magic Mouse and LED cinema display connected to my MacBook. When I hold either shift key in combination with any other key, either nothing is typed, or there will be random characters typed, occasionally.
I ran AppleJack on auto to see if there were any problems. There were a few preferences it corrected, but nothing major was wrong. I connected the keyboard to a friend's MacBook Pro, and the shift keys did not work on his machine either. Caps Lock does work. I've tried canned air. I don't remember spilling anything on it.
Any idea about what I can try to get it working, or is it broken? Thanks,

When cmd+shift+d does not work on a mac, here's what to do.

I have been trying to authorize my new Macbook Pro 2011 for weeks. (I set up and authorized my iPhone with no problem.) Whenever I try to authorize my computer using the Digital Editions instructions given at the bottom of this post, I get the message:
Activation Server error - code E_AUTH_NOT_READY
Digital Editions encounter an error on the activation server.
I've read all the forums and tried everything. To deal with this problem, the answers in the forums say to deauthorize my computer and the reauthorize it but, no matter what I do, I cannot get it to deauthorize. i have tried opening ADE and hitting Command+Shift+D--using command because I have a mac--(tried this in library view and in reader view) but nothing happens. This is different from so many others who have solved this problem using Command+Shift+D. When I hit Command+Shift+D, nothing happens at all. I get no screen so I cannot hit Erase Authorization. I don't know how to get rid of the authorization that must exist somewhere but I don't know where. Only after I get rid of it, will I be able to reautorize my computer so I can read ebooks from the library, etc.
I also tried uninstalling ADE 2.0 and then reinstalling it. I did not get the set-up wizard to help me authorize my computer. So I went to the Help menu and chose "Authorize Computer" and got a window titled "Authorize Your Computer." The eBook Vendor was already shown as Adobe ID. All I had to do was enter my Adobe ID and Password. I did this (which worked successfully on my iPhone) and got the same error screen message noted above:

I returned to the Help menu and chose "Authorize Computer" and got a window titled "Authorize Your Computer." The eBook Vendor was already shown as Adobe ID. All I had to do was enter my Adobe ID and Password. I did this and THIS TIME I WAS SUCCESSFUL. I got the following message screen:

Solution
This error occurs when the authorization information is damaged. Follow the below steps to rebuild the Activation file.

I have just encountered the same problem and all the same frustrations as karliekate, except that I haven't got a new eReader. I just use my PC, so I don't know what might have caused this. The Adobe Help (!!) pages say to contact the eBook provide (the library) whose site says contact Adobe, although it should be well known by now that software producers like Adobe, Apple, Microsoft and many others are completely indifferent to their customers' problems.

Ctrl and shift alt shortcuts not working in Illustrator CS4

Can´t seem to get these keys to work properly.
For instance while drawing with the rectangle tool then pressing shift to get a square does not give me a square, all I get is a tooltip balloon saying "shift" same goes with ctrl and alt and spacebar. This only happens while using my wacom graphire 3 not with the mouse. Trying to use the up and down arrows to shange the number of points in a star also not working. But if I FIRST click the shift key then start creating a square its working, but not if I first start creating the rectangle. Photoshop cs4 does not give me this problem. Using Vista 32 bit swedish language, latest Wacom driver 5.0.8-6, latest keyboard driver and a swedish microsoft natural pro keyboard, latest logitech mouse driver. Any help is appreciated.

Fonts... there are probably the most guilty of that cases. Ask yourself: when you add (drop, be forced) new fonts in your system, by management spoftware (directly into font folder)? Notice when web browser "ask" you about access to your fonts on your HD in last time (so often last days). When you "dig" somthing in a system, at any way, you disturb his "sacramental peace" (Ohmmmm...) and it flow in other case like sensitive Illustrator or others - I think all other "movements" eg. reinstaling, deleting, etc just "cover" problem by something others (for a short time) or don't resove it at all.
So, first try... rebuild you system maintenace privilages (do this every month or often! Try Atomicbird Macaroni or Titanium Onyx or so, than...
try rebiuld/refresh/clean your font cach ( I use for this, and manage, FontExplorer X Pro) and should be fine.

On full keyboards with a numeric keypad, the key above the right shift is "return" & the one on the numeric section is "enter." On a Mac (or Apple IIgs ) they do have separate functions. On the "mini" keyboards, both names are on the same key, but "enter" is written in smaller letters. I'll have to check to see how that works on another Mac later today.

CTRL+SHIFT+O does not work

WHen i attempt to save a record in an infopath form, I receive an error that the form cannot be submitted and to press CTRL+SHIFT+O to identify errors. This does nothing! Is there any other means to identify the errors on the form
or to show the user which fields are in error? All required fields are populated correctly but still the error occurs.
I also receive a browser message that error fields are outlined in red. This also does not work. No fields are outlined.

Hi jd, did you run the rule inspector in InfoPath to see what may be set up wrong? Try previewing the form in InfoPath and see where the errors are. Then check the setup on the field.

I have a hp g61 running windows 7 and suse 11.4. Both of my shift keys are not working..help.

i have tried the following but it didnt help;
                 Hard reset
1. Press and Hold power button till the laptop turns off (5-7 sec approx).
            2. Then unplug the AC adaptor.
            3. Turn the laptop upside down.
            4. Then remove battery.
            5. Then press and hold the power button for 2 minutes (to remove static electricity).
            6. Then, put the battery back in the notebook and plug in AC adaptor and turn on the laptop.
Re-installing battery drivers:
1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Click on + sign beside the Keyboard category.
3. Under the Keyboard category, right-click the Microsoft ps1/ps2 driver, and select Uninstall.
Note: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and the shift keys not working correctly. I find that in most cases a keyboard that stops responding or some keys don't work is generally a keyboard is stuck cleaning might be the only option. Here is a document on how to clean the keyboard.
If a small vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment is available, use it to clear the keyboard of debris. A can of compressed air can be used to blow out particles that get in between the keys. I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Shift+command+b not working for bold

I just updated to cs6 and my "bold" key command is not working. (shift+command+b on mac) I am using a font that has BOLD. I can select bold from the character palette and it works fine but the key command will not work. I checked my key command list and is there by default. It should work. It worked fine on cs5 for me. I even tried holding the fn key but no dice. Any ideas? I have to bold many many items so I can not possibly use the character palette....thanks.

"Nope" the first word of my response, was to your question. It means No. Meaning "No I did not copy a custom set". I am using default set.
I wonder if some other app has taken that kb shortcut. Nothing happens when I press it though....and I wouldnt know how to find out.
edit - problem solved. Even though the font says that it has a bold face I guess that it does not. Bold still works fine for other fonts. Sorry for your time.

Shift option drag not working

Hi all,
Today my Shft Option drag is not working. When I click on an object and hit shift-option and drag the object, it should move in a horizontal or vertical direcion, but it does not. When I hold the shift key, the object can still be moved in any direction without stagering. I have never seen this before. Anyone know how to fix this?
