Shifting audio

Recording video from my webcam with Quicktime Player 10 results in a clip in which the audio is just a tad out of sync with the video.
I would assume iMovie should be able to shift the audio ever so slightly, but I can't quite figure out how.

Great! Glad to help. I'm sure AppleMan would have responded with similar advice, but he's probably still sound asleep, so thought I'd jump in to avoid any further frustration on your part.

  • Premiere Pro CC Cutting off frames and shifting audio from .MOV

Hi everyone! I recently converted from Premiere Pro CS6 to CC. I've noticed an incredibly frustrating problem that I can't diagnose. In CS6 my Quicktime files would come in just fine, with correct audio lining up. However in Premiere Pro CC, the first two frames are cut off and the audio is shifted forward.
I only have one machine: a 2009 MacPro, with the only main upgrade being a Nvidia 680.
Here are the two files in question if anyone wants to see what I am running into:
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1xaez5axno7ntq5/AADUybHCiJsGMgj-ZpqMGFvga?dl=0
These files are coming out of our 3D software, Blender. Yes they're half 1920x1080 - they are preview renders and not final.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • How to shift audio? Newbie help

    Hey guys,
I am hoping someone can help me out.
I am completely new to Logic. and have no idea how to do this.
I have all the parts to a song which i am remixing... when i load the all in to login from 00:00 and play them back they are all in sync. the tracks sounds well. The issue is that all the parts have a small silence at the front. so when i play back with Metronome the timing is off.
Ideally, i would like to shift the start time of each part so that they all start from 00 and match metronome.
Does anyone know how i can strip that first part of silence or simply shift the start time of each track? I know in the sample editor you can simply drag the start time marker. But this would not be accurate for all 24 parts. So i would like to do it by entering the exact time i would like to either remove or shift and then i can repeat this to all tracks so they are all the same.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    _Marco

In the Arrange select all 24 tracks - grab the scissor tool from the toolbox (hit escape - toolbox opens) - then trim the beginning of all the tracks with the scissor. You could also just grab the left corner off all the regions and just move them to the right to the beginning of the Audio.
After the trimming set the playhead to the beginning of the song and use keycommand "pickup clock" (control+P) - all regions will get moved to the playhead position at once.

  • How to shift audio to sync with video

    Friends,
I have a clip (actually a collection of clips) that I exported from Final Cut Pro Express and imported into FCPX for editing.  I recognize that it's cumbersome but I prefer to edit in FCPX, even though I had to string together a bunch of separate clips for the export, thereby creating a long single clip.
The problem is that the audio is slightly out of sync with the video.  Is there an easy way to detach the audio and shift it about ten frames to the left?  If I do that, will I be able to use a blade to chop the long clip into smaller clips for editing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

Detach audio is something you do in the Timeline to detach the audio so it's completelky separate from the video and can be movede to wherever you want. The only way to reattach the video is to make it a compound clip. When you open in Timeline, the audio, even is shifted, remains attached to the video and still appears as a single clip in the Timeline. You can't detach audio for a clip in the browser.

  • IMac spakers shift audio volume up and down...

I play a song through iTunes and through the iMac's speakers, the volume sort of cuts out and shifts between volumes. Almost like it's hitting its limit in terms of volume. This only happens when the iMac's volume is at its peak, same with iTunes' built-in volume. I've never had this problem before, but could it be possible the speakers may have been somewhat damaged before I bought it? It was a Refreshed (open box) item from an Apple Store in San Francisco, CA.

    Thanks.

  • Shift audio by less than one frame?

    Greetings!
Newbie to FCP. I have Standard DV tapes of concerts, very long clips (from 20 minutes to more than one hour), and I want to replace the audio with wonderful 24/96 carefully recorded audio done in Logic Pro. I have been able to sync the audio to video in FCP, but only to within one frame (when I drag the audio, it moves at one-frame jumps). I can sync much more closely in Logic, but how do I get the video with new sync'ed audio back into the FCP timeline? And would this degrade the video as I go round-trip from FCP to Logic?
Is there any way I can move audio tracks in FCP by less than one frame?
If not, can anyone suggest the best workflow to accomplish this?
    Thanks to all in advance!

    This should help:

  • Audio shift when exporting to quicktime

Frustrated! Everytime I export my iMovie in iMovie 09, the audio shifts at some point in the movie. I dont know why. I've tried several different edits and each time it shifts in a different place. Shift= audio way out of sync with video.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

  • Can't drag audio and video together?

I have numerous assets in this dvd project. I'm setting up a button to play 10 commercials in a row, a "play all" button.
I'm editing the 10 commercials in what looks like a mini-video editor, with the video track and audio tracks shown.
    PROBLEM:
When I grab the video to change the order of my "play all", the audio doesn't move with it. For instance, I'm shifting commercial #3 to become commercial #1. In order for Audio from Commercial #3 to become audio for commercial #1, I have to shift audio #2-10 over to the right to create space for Audio Commercial #3 to insert there. VERY FRUSTRATING and painstaking. And if you accidentally clip a bit off the end or front of an audio portion (easy to do in these tiny little tracks), the sync' is off for the rest of the spots!
I called Apple "tech support", and the rep' told me you can't drag audio and video together, and made up some excuse about 'this should already be done in Final Cut'. What? I'm just bringing in QuickTime files as assets. Why can't I lock audio and video together?
Incidentally, Apple's Tech Support is useless you spend $199, or "$799 for a year". This cost was NOT made clear in the original purchase of the product. I'd prefer spending $1000 for a "PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION" and have good tech support included!
    Arrrrgh!
    G4 dual 1.25 gig - 1 gig ram   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   DVD Studio "Pro" 4

Once in the track, A and V don't get moved together.
I usually just rebuild the track order from scratch anyway because you can easily lose sync easilly when you are shuffling clip order.

  • Serius audio sync problems

After my update to CC 2014 8.1 i've experienced big problem with Video audio sync both with directly imported media via media manager and with Conform media fra Ex. AVCHD/mp4 to Prores. the clips starts fine and suddenly they shift audio somewhere between 23-28frames. in another post I wrote that my AVChd files contains audio from other files in both project manager and timeline. when I play from finder in quicktime og importer to other NLE clips are just fine - Please let me know if it's a bug on adobe end or me that's need to do something to fix it.

I've tried to conform to Prores using media encoder but the same thing happens about 3-4 min into a clip the audio shifts aprox. 26frames how can this happen?

  • Time Stretch Audio in FCP?

I've got a sound I'd like to time stretch on a simple project. I'd rather not have to do anything in STP since this is the only sound I need it for--is there a way to stretch in FCP?

    Hello Mr. Wolsky,
I have read many of your extremely well informed posts on this site and greatly respect your opinion. I am wondering, however, if you are perhaps mistaken in stating that one cannot pitch shift in FCP.
I invite you to go to the Apple Sound Effects Plugins folder and take a look at "AUPitch". I have used it often for making Foley sound effects that I either can't be bothered to search out - for instance a huge metal clanging door I pitch shifted up a few octaves and it became a briefcase lock springing open.
I think people just don't look in that folder because it looks kinda boring.
Here is an extract from an article on Ken Stone about the Apple audio filters.
    Hope this helps.
    Harry.
    AUPitch
+Adjusts the pitch of your audio, obviously. There are a LOT of controls though, and I have to admit that I don't have a clue what a Glb Trigger Thresh or a Loud Aggr K is. Effect blend blends the pitch-shifted audio with the original and is sometimes necessary to make voices sound natural. It is worth mentioning that I've gotten perfectly acceptable results by adjusting the first two parameters and not bothering with any of the others. I'd imagine that most people wouldn't have to adjust more than these.+
+I tried a Google search on some of these parameters but they only turned up forum threads where people were asking what on Earth they meant and no-one was able to solve their problem. If anyone does know, I'd be interested to hear from them.+
+This can be useful for making a male actor's voice more masculine (yes, I have had to do this!).+

  • Extracted Audio Problem

Hello, I'm having a problem with my current project in iMovieHD. I learned through bitter experience that it was a good idea to extract/lock my audio back when I was using iMovie 4. Since using iMovieHD I have continued this practice, even though people tell me the shifting audio problem is no longer an issue. Anyway, today I extracted & locked the audio before I burned the DVD, and I find that the audio has been corrupted. It just makes random popping noises. When I put it in "View Waveform" mode, I can clearly see that the audio is still there. It just won't play now. Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem. I can't go back to unextracting the audio now - too late for that. HELP!

Well, the back and forth using the camera worked - but it was a lot of labor. First I erased the two hundred or so other clips other than the five I wanted to work with. UN-extracted the audio, with the clips still in Slow Motion, and exported to the camera (which functioned, luckily). Quit iMovie, did not save the changes, and opened her back up, and re-imported the clips. Worked like a charm. Just like you said, it tricked iMovie into thinking the slow motion clip was just how the regular clip played. Stupid computer, haha.
Lastly, just to clear it up. I was attempting to slow the clip AND the audio down the same, so, for instance, like when someone yells "Noooooo," it makes the voice deeper and longer. It's funny. But when I would extract the audio from the clip, it would go all Matrix and funky on me. No big deal anymore.
And what the heck are you doing up at 4:45 in the morning? lol. Anyway, thanx for your input and time - I really appreciate it. All seems well. Thanks again, Matt.

  • 24p to 30p SOUND IN SYNC?

Is there a way to convert 30p footage to 24p while keeping the sound in sync and not slowed down.
When I conver the 30p footage to 24p the whole thing is slowed down, including the sound.

I still have a problem, understanding what you like to achive:
this is your (? no, not really - my comment about © was meant seriously) bad take:
I seperated the audio, I made a split at the beginning of bad scene
I searched for good - which seems the saxophone sequence ...
splitted the audio, "Robby!" as synch-point (a+v)
shifted audio to be in synch with following sequence
    => a 'hole'!
as you can see, the audio and video 'drifts' - video longer than the purple bar.
    no you want …wot?
to 'stretch' audio fitting the bad video'?
    plus pitching voices?
possible, but no trivia task, Dear ...

  • Issues and hangs in 7.0.1

I really like the new design of Premiere Pro CC, the added features are great.  Since updating to 7.0.1, I've been encountering these issues:
    - Exporting to AME can take several minutes now, whereas it used to be instant.
    - Duplicating a sequence takes several seconds to process now, whereas it used to be instant.
    - Sometimes AME hangs and does nothing once the project starts encoding (but video will work through "export" option directly through Premiere).
    - The rolling edit tool is glitchy, especially when shifting audio-only of an audio/video clip that has transitions.
    - When scaling down 16:9 HD footage to a 4:3 SD timeline, instead of appearing letterboxed, the top and bottom pixels repeat to the edge of the frame (interestingly, I'm also getting this issue in CS6).
    - Saving presets that involve the new multiband compressor always crash.
    - A bug from CS6 still exists.  Occasionally, the cursor won't change from the standard arrow cursor to, say, the trim cursor.  The solution is to close the sequence and re-open it.
Yes, I will be submitting this to the bug form.  Just curious if anyone else if encountering these issues.  The last few versions of Premiere have been amazingly stable for me, so I'm hoping the regular updates through CC don't eventually lead to an unstable program.  New features are cool, but stability is key in a deadline-driven industry.
I'm encountering this on both systems I use.
    i7-2600K
    GTX 560 Ti
    16GB RAM
    Win 7 pro, 64bit
    i7-4770

    Thanks,

The repeating pixels is likely caused by your nVidia driver.  The anomaly does not occur with the older 314 driver.  I don't know if it's been corrected with the newest 331 driver.
I've not seen any reports with Compressor presets, but it may be that not many people are saving the effect as a preset.
The rest of the issues aren't normal, something is definitely glitchy on your system.

  • Media Managed projects audio i/o's have shifted

Trying to archive projects using Media Management has been enormously frustrating: crashing frequently, causing problems with hds being recognized, having to force quit on my mb pro.
Now I find that the projects have audio problems: the i/o's have shifted.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
I guess a workaround would be to drag over the original audio, the files aren't that big, but all the effort I've put into MMing makes me think I should skip that process and just move all the original media used in the final sequence.
All the problems I'm having now have resurrected memories of a few years ago that I'd largely forgotten. These are the same problems that made me stop before.
FCP is a great app, but this part of it *****.

This board is full of people that are update crazy...
even when they have perfectly good working systems.
i know i thought well it's just a security update not a major update.
Best advice... whenever updating the OS, unplug all
    firewire devices.
will take note of that from now on.
Was this auto-update? Try downloading the file and
running the update again with all firewire devices
    unplugged.
While the 828 is disconnected perform the factory
    reset
    again.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
    -Press the Setup knob
-Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
    -Press the Select knob
    -Press the Value knob
-Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable
    back
    in
    -Power the interface back on
i have the original 828 not mark 2, so no reset i know of, just power on off.
After the Mac updates... reboot and plugin the 828,
see if that doesn't get you going.
    pancenter-
cheers pancenter, i'll give it a whirl updating without the interface plugged in. thanks for all your help.

  • Audio shifts positions after recording?

When I record something using my mic, whether it be audio or an instrument, the recording shifts over a few frames once I’m finished recording, which means I have to go back and manually line it up perfectly each time.  This is extremely frustrating, and sometimes it's nearly impossible to line the audio back up with the instrumentals.  How do I fix this and make it so that the recording stays in the same position after I finish recording it?

I know it sounds strange, but that actually makes some sense. What it means is that the .pkf file that Audition created (this is the quick visual display) is intact, but the audio it relates to has got itself misplaced. Now I'm almost certain that you have a HD problem, I'm afraid.
