Shifting blue pixels

Mac Pro 10.6.8
I'm having some really odd issues.   My mac has frozen several times in the past few days and now the windows appear "broken" - odd jagged lines and dancing blue pixels...  strangely they appear on the desktop and only some web pages...  it isn't on this page, but its all over my gmail.
I took some screen grabs.
Going to do a cloud backup and try to upgrade to mavericks to see if that will clear it up...  just wanted to post here in case anyone heard of this - -
will update upon completion of upgrade... or if it all goes kaput.

How should I approach the logicboard issue?
This is a hardware problem, specifically your GPU, and no online troubleshooting will address it. The only way to fix this is to get it physically repaired. You can bring it in to a local Apple Store. I would advise this at the very least, because they will confirm the problem, free of charge, by running a diagnostics test. If a component fails, they will then give you a quote. Out of warranty, a logicboard is a pricey fix.
As an intermediary test, you can use the Apple Hardware Test. Run the extended version, 3X back to back. Note this test will produce false negatives, especially in regards to logicboard related issues.
Using Apple Hardware Test - Support
am backing up via crashplan and considering drive genius 3....  understanding that it may just be a matter of time before it craps out entirely...
This is the best plan of action at this course of time. I would advise against drive genius as a back-up method, as it is not really made for this purpose. I would make a physical backup in addition to crashplan (to my understanding, crash plan is a back-up stored on a server). You can do so via time machine, or software such as Carbon Copy Cloner.
Make an appointment at your local Apple store and confirm the diagnosis. You will then get a price quote and you can decide the best plan from there...sorry to be the bearer of bad news. BOL. Regards.

  • The top button on my iphone 5 stopped working recently.. Well it works but barely at all if every. Most of the time it only locks the screen if I click on the left side of the button. Also my Camera causes a blue pixelated spot on pictures I take.

The top button on my phone recently stopped working. Well sometimes. Majority of the time if I click it hard enough on the left side of the button it will lock the screen... Otherwise it doesnt work at all anymore. Also the camera appears to be placing a blue pixel on pictures I take. Its annoying. What should I do?

It's completely situational. Without being able to directly compare the "scratch" on the original poster's iPhone with your iPhone, what gaamcc had happen could not be extrapolated to guess what Apple may do in your situation. It will depend entirely on what the Apple technician diagnoses after examining your iPhone. He/she may decide that any damage is strictly cosmetic and didn't have any connection with the problem you're taking your iPhone in for, or he/she may diagnose the problem as stemming from user damage. You'll just have to see when you go to the Apple Store.

  • Blue pixel in iTunes HD movies

I enjoy renting HD movies in iTunes, however, i noticed something really odd. It's barely noticeable when watching, but there's a blue pixel visible in all the HD movies I've watched recently. It is in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. I even re-installed Lion and it didn't fix it. Movies that have the blue pixel- MI4- Ghost Protocol, Atlantis, Puss in Boots, The World is Not enough, When in Rome, and Kung Fu Panda2.
I took the photo out of focus to enhance the blue pixel. The black is the bezel of the screen and the grey is just the backlight of the screen at the end of MI4.
The blue pixel tracks/moves with the full screen player when I do the three finger swipe to go between the desktop/dashboard. I know the screen is okay, just this seems odd...

I have noticed the exact same thing while watching my purchased movies (720p HD or 1080p HD) on iTunes, even tried opening them with QuickTime Player but I could still see the blue pixel in the upper left-hand corner.
P.S I had a fresh install of OSx Mountain Lion and it didn't fix the problem!
    Any Ideas?
Movies that have the Blue Pixel for me: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight & Wall-E

  • Regarding 30" ACD & dancing green/blue pixels with 10.5.3

    Hi there people!
I'm really interested to find out if 10.5.3 has fixed the issues for those that had the dancing green/blue pixels problem as the display wakes from screen sleep state. As I am surprised nobody had posted any information regarding this from 10.5.3.
According to the huge log of fixes... something caught my eye but it was not detailed. So now that 10.5.3 final has been out for a few days, has it fixed yours... since this fix sounds like its related to the corruption. Hoping that it's related to the DVI noise/screen corruption as the pixels dance about the screen.

    Hi all.
I had this problem with my G5 2.3 & 30" CD upon start up quite frequently.
After going back & forth to the Apple store all day switching out monitors (3 total), I tried something different.
I did an erase & install, & DID NOT install the 30" CD software, I also set the display up to where I turn it on & off separately.
I have had 0 pixel issues since.
I miss just being able to turn the power button on and being done with it, but this has gotten rid of the pixel issues.
I just kind of look @ it like when you turn on/off your home theater, you have your receiver button and your TV button, plus a Blu Ray / DVD player to turn on/off.
Also, my G5 has the 6600 video card, not the specified 6800GT. I spoke with a "Tier 2" Apple specialist & was told I would have "no problems", After 3 years, I have had none. (other than the infamous "dancing pixels")
Good luck. This solution worked for me. Pixel issues suck.

  • Green & Blue pixels of death  -  Hotfix

Occasionally my screen will boot swarming with green & blue pixel sized dots. If I take a screenshot, and look at that screenshot on another computer, they are not visible. I used to reboot until they disappeared, and then started putting the display to sleep and waking it up, but encountered sleep problems with Leopard. I've since found a faster, more reliable way to chase them away.
    - Change the resolution of your screen one lower, and then back to your desired resolution -

    Stop changing the screen resolution.
There's a few workarounds with this, sadly no fixes.
*1, When it happens. Press the power button/standby button on the side of the display and unplug the display (from the mains) gives it two seconds and plug it back in. As it's powered back on, the dancing pixels are gone and its saves you having to reboot/sleep/restart all the time.*
*2, Get dockables. http://getdockables.com/ It has the sleep display app that you can put in your dock and activate to quickly get rid of the dancing swines.*
No need for messing with resolution changing, or restarts etc.
*3, The most simplest one of all. When your display goes to sleep, before you wake it up and the screen is covered in dancing pixels. Power off the display via the button on the side of the screen. Then tap the key (keyboard) or move the mouse to wake up the machine. Then tap the power button on the side of the display again.* The screen will be clear from dancing pixels. You'll have to do this each time when it enters sleep.
I can't guarantee you'll never get them. As I have tested this many times and I haven't had it with workaround 3. Sure it may be a pain, but its the only way I have found testing this.
Something triggers the signal to become messed up, and I'm betting its driver related because the OS sends the display to go to sleep. So something must malfunction with the driver/signal to cause all the dancing pixels upon wake up.
As it is no rocket science if somebody has replaced display after display, system after system, graphics card after graphics card and the problem remains.
This is such a bad intermittent problem, that Apple are not aware of.

  • Large blue pixelated spots on my image

I just opened a low resolution .jpg in ACR CS5 and  it is showing up in the main window with large blue pixelated spots over it. What is this?
    Thanks.

So what exactly is this telling me? Is it indicating the parts of the image that are so dark that detail is being lost?
Yes...the blue channel is being clipped. The same indicator can also show you highlight clipping if you turn on the indicator for highlights (the other side of the histogram).

  • Blue pixels appear on screen when warm...

Am looking at buying a used 12" 867Mhz G4 Powerbook. The seller states that "there is only one issue with the laptop, when it gets warm blue pixels appear in certain areas of the screen."
Does anyone have any ideas on this... quick fix? or is the screen getting ready to die?
    Thanks in advance...

Blue Pixels appearing? hmmm, not good---take a look and see how many and if it is distracting -- there are pixel pix programs you can try and use, however, LCD screens are know for a dead pixel here and there. Whats weird is that the pixels are blue? Usually when a pixel dies, its colorless. If you are getting a great deal on the PB (as in real cheap) and the lixel issue isnt to bad -- then take a shot at it. You always get what you pay for.

  • Blue pixels on highlights on iPad2

Today, my iPad 2 has suddenly started showing blue pixels on any highlights on the screen. It's not just on anything white, but only on any bright parts of the screen. There also seems to be a bit of a grey tint to some screens. This started around lunchtime but to start with just appeared sometime. This evening it seems to be consistent.
What could this be? Is it something that I can resolve or do I need to visit Apple?
    Thanks

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
    - reset iPad. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Blue pixel patern on both main & external iMac 20" screen,

I was wondering if there is a problem with the graphic card driver for my iMac Core 2 Duo 20" (ATI,RadeonX1600) that will be updated in the near future or is there something wrong with the graphic card.
A blue pixel patern is visible on both the main and external display (Apple Cinema diplay 20").
To my knowledge this is not some 'dead' pixel problem. It is a structured patern of blue dots. I can also make screenshots of it.
The patern is always there, but most visible in dark area's.
    iMac Core 2 Duo 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Dear chris & lars,
Thank you both for your quick replies.
I tried the 'commandalt+pr' restart combination. This did not solve the problem.
The next thing came up in my mind; restart in single user mode (command+s) and see how the screen looks.
The answer is it looked fine. No blue pixels, nice black all over.
So I think it is software related at this point. I tried hardware test earlier on which reported no errors.
The only things I have installed related to graphics, apart from by Apple supplied software / drivers, are some quicktime components for playing divx etc... Maybe the problem is caused by these components. Other than that I have no clues.
I think I will wait a month or two to see if the problem disappears when new system software updates get installed.

  • Powerbook screen issues with blue pixels replacing colors

This is my Grandma's computer. It is a Powerbook G4 1.5 GHZ running mac os 10.5.6. It took a trip and she might have possibly dropped it. The issue is with the LCD display. Blue pixels seem to be coming on too much, especially on the edges of the screen. BASICALLY, some spots of color seem to be replaced by blue pixels. Is it a mother board issue, an LCD issue, or a display cable issue? I want to try hooking up an external monitor, but haven't done so yet.

The external monitor would be a good thing to try. If the pixel artifact also appears on the external, it would imply a problem with the graphics chip. If not, it would imply a problem with the internal display or its connections. When pixels are involved, it is often an internal display problem.
If you have the original install discs, you could also try running the Apple Hardware Test and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code.
    Good luck!

  • Can image for blue pixels and report pixel x,y coordinates

    Hi
I am not sure if I am posting in the right forum so please excuse me.
I have a number of images (100 +) which are 400 pixels by 400 pixels each. On these images I have a number of blue dots which are probababally 2 by 2 pixels each. I want to write a program that will scan an image for me and report the exact point of a blue dot back to me i.e. I want in pixels the x and y coordinates of the blue dots.
    Notes
An image can contain zero or more blue dots.
Some blue dots may cross other blue dots (very rarely)
    Urgent help needed please!!!

  • 32 bit to 16 bit HDR results in blue pixels PS 5.1

    Hi,
I am using Canon .cr2 files shot with a 5D mkii for HDRs.  I start by toning the image in 32 bit.  Once the PS file is created, I used auto tone, auto contrast and suto color.  When I change the image mode to 16 bit, it results in the image below.  Sometimes the pixels are red or have blue and red in them.  This is happening with a lot of my HDR images.  When I do not use the auto correction features, I have no problem.  I am hoping someone can give me an idea what is happening and how to fix it.

    Thanks for all the repies.
In clarification, we have no intention of ever being productive with ERP6/NW7 at 32-bits. The plan is to upgrade then cutover to 64-bit in a single down time window.
Upgrading to 64-bit first presents a problem since we would need to patch ECC 5 to do so. We feel this would be "wasted" work if we're just going to immediately upgrade to ECC6.
So a follow on question is: Given our current ECC SP level, are there any known issues with directly upgrading to ERP 6 EhP 5?
    Thanks again,
    Brian

  • Screen covered with green and blue pixels (visible on dark colors)

    Hello,
I have this tablet since beginning of April, and since few days I've noticed the little dots on the top of the screen.
From far away it looks like dust behind the screen, but by having a closer look, it's like pixels that stay green and blue when the rest of the image is dark. It's very visible when I'm using the tablet with no lights around me. i've tried to restart the tablet, and even when It's loading with the SONY sign, I have that! what should I do ? Did people had that issue before ?
(BTW, The screen is also unresponsive when plugged to charge)

I encounter the same problem. I bought my Z2 tablet 16GB from the Singapore Sony Store. I got it for one month and the same pixel problem appeared.   I send it in for servicing at the Singapore Sony care centre at 313 somerset outlet.. One week went by and nothing happened. The service was bad, no reply from the customer care or technician. They gave me a website so i can check the status of the servicing but all it shown on the page was pending.. one full week and still pending. I had to call them once and asked them what happened, the Sony personal over the line could only say they can check and get back to me. The next day i called again to check if any technician has even start and immediately right after that they called me to go down to collect. Turn out they are giving me a new tablet. And the screen protector was not refund to me as they said that the device was still in the service centre.. had to buy a new one for myself. Such a disappointment in the servicing.. and now the current one i am holding as the same freaking problem.. also i notice the corners of the screen has some yellowish hue.

  • I have 2 blue pixels on my new iPhone 6. Is this common or do I have a bad phone?

I have a new iPhone 6 and I noticed two pixels that are blue on the screen (defective). Is this normal or do I have a bad phone?

This is not normal, of course. I'm not sure though, how many defective pixels it takes to replace a screen or a device. Suggest that you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have it examined and they will make a determination.
