Shipping Unit Group (Handling Unit)
We are converting from SAP version 4.5B to ECC 6.0. In our old 4.5B version the Shipping Unit Group in our inbound Shipping Notification IDoc (DESADV) was not edited. In 6.0 the Shipping Unit Group data element is being edited (against the TVE1 table) and the IDoc is failing to post because the data value is not on the table. We currently have no values in our Shipping Unit Group tables. How do I add values to that table so that our IDocs will pass the edits, and is this the correct fix or should there be a parameter setting that I should use instead.
The TVE1 table was updated in the IMG and required a transport.

Use of a fixed reusable Handling (Shipping) Unit number
Dear Forum members,
Initial AS-IS information :
SAP IS-Retail 4.7 Environment
No real Handling Unit Management but only Shipping Units
Closed loop system customer development for delivery on crate level between
distribution center and the customer's retail outlets established.
Integrated solution using idoc interface to sorter system in DC and own created RF
transactions to support all steps in the DC process enabled by RF transactions and own created crate status management tables.
Now TO-BE request :
Upgrade of the current solution using "fixed Handling Unit" numbering.
Advantages are savings in efficiency as the printing and applying of
crate labels is labor extensive and besides costs a fixed Handling Unit can leverage an ease of use when upgrading from RF to RFID supported processes for our client.
Issue :
As the client cannot use the real Handling Unit Management functionality
the SAP standard HU02 transactions and configuration of HU user statusses
does not have any influence because the existing function modules do not pass the information required to make a change to a Handling Unit possible.
I implemented note 1083778 but this applies only for the triggering
using HU management.
Is there anybody that has also been in a similar situation and has been looking for a solution to the problem descibed here ?
My current approach is to go through following steps :
1. Investigate whether or not I need to use a modification to the SAP HU status
object as this now blocks emptying of the Handling Unit.
2. Investigate SAP behaviour when deleting a Handling Unit from tables VEKP and
VEPO. Perhaps also HU status tables need to be emptied.
3. Investigate use of own function module to unassign the Handling Unit from its
allocated " old " delivery number.
3. When HU number can be reused (after Goods Receipt at store) we will create
a function module that can either be called from a RF transaction code or from
an RFID created message that will arrange the HU number to be available for
new delivery processes.
4. Return crates will still be numbered uniquely at the store and have a external
numberrange as well. A return crate will keep its number and will also be re-
used as a "returns loop of crates" The idea is that "return crates can be easily
identified and also physically be distinguished from regular "outbound crates" .
Hopefully some of you recognize the idea and perhaps have some hints or tips and tricks in getting this development up-and-running.
Any input welcome a lot !

Different wieghts & measurements for shipping units.
Hello All,
My requirement is everytime many deilvery items are packed in one box or in multiple boxes. Box weights & measurements changes for every delivery as everytime delivery items are packed in different box sizes so wieghts & measurements also changes for every delivery and same need to be printed in shipping documents.
So can I achieve this by using packing with shipping units and moreover can I everytime asign or manully maintian different wieghts & measurements in delivery processing in packing step or is there any other way in SAP by which I can meet this requirement.
Please help. It is very urgent. Points will be rewarded.
Best regards,
Partha DasDear Partha,
You can maintain the weight & Measurement in the master data of the packing material from there you can fetch the data through output program with the help of abaper.
You do the output determination for the deliveries in IMG path is
SPRO>Logistics Execution>Shipping>Basic shipping functions>Output control>Output determination>Maintain output determination for outbound deliveries
-->Maintain Condition Tables
-->Maintain Output Types -->Here you can define different ouput type to get those details
Develop and assign related output program, smart form or script program as per your requirement.
-->Maintain Access Sequences
-->Maintain Output Determination Procedure
-->Assign Output Determination Procedures
Maintain the output condition record for that output type in VV21 transaction.
I hope it will help you,

User and group handling in LDAP Realm
Hi,
I'm currently using an LDAP Realm for storing users and groups, which I need to be able to add, amend and remove at runtime.
I understand that in earlier versions of Weblogic, the methods to do the add/remove/modify were not implemented but I was told that this may change in WL6. If so, is there any documentation or examples about these methods ? If not, would I need to extend ManageableRealm to create a custom realm ?
Any help much appreciated.
DaveHi Dave:
In our project, we use security realm (LDAP realm) for Users and Groups authentication. We turned the CacheRealm on to optimize performance. To add and amend Users and Groups, we use a stateless EJB to talk to LDAP server. This kind of partition works fine for us to separate the user authentication
logic and user management logic.
Fun

How to delete the item from Delivery?? (Handling Unit)
Dear SDNs,
I have a scenario of HU (Handling Unit).
Now here I have a case where the complete cycle is done. But end user now wants to change/delet the item in Delivery. So I have guided them to reverse all documents and it is done.
Now delivery is in Editable Mode. Now here when I try to Delete Delivery Line Item.. It is giving Error like "Item has already been packed and therefore cannot be deleted"
Diagnosis says "It is not possible to delete packed items."
Procedure says "Unpack the item from the shipping unit before you delete it."
Now when I select Line Item and click the PACK Button to go to the screen for "Processing of Handling Units for outbound Delivery XXXXXXX", it goes to the screen but here there is not Existing HUs available to Delete/Empty... whole screen is Blank.. even no Material to be packed...
I think user have proceeded the cycle without HU assignment.
So now I want to Delete the Line Items and want to insert fresh Items again...
Any inputs???
Thanks & Regards,
HPHardik Patel,

Handling Unit Management
Purpose
You can use Handling Unit Management (HUM) to reflect packing-based logistics structures in the SAP System. Using this method, you track the movements of entire handling units and the materials they contain rather than tracking each material individually.
When you base logistics processes on handling units, goods movements processing is made easier, which in turn optimizes all logistics operations. This simplified processing includes the existing packing function in shipping and warehouse processing in the Warehouse Management system, which is expanded here.
Features
In the system, the handling unit (HU) expands on the shipping unit. Handling units can be nested, which means that you can create new handling units from several handling units as often as you like. At the material item level, HUs contain the complete material identification, the quantity, and, in the case of serial numbers, the respective object list. Handling units have unique, scannable identification numbers that can be developed according to standards such as EAN 128 or SSCC.
Handling units contain all inventory management information of the materials they contain that are maintained in Inventory Management. There are also status messages that you can call up at any time that indicate whether a handling unit is only planned or if the ship-to party has been notified of the arrival of this handling unit, or whether it is in the warehouse or has already been posted to goods issue. The integrated history function also records each business process in the life cycle of each handling unit, meaning that you can track the handling unitu2019s path and development at any time.
In HU-managed storage locations, all goods movements are executed through the specification of the respective HUs, and Inventory Management is performed through the handling units. If you are not working with HU-managed storage locations, you can use handling units (without stock information) as before in the delivery and in the shipment.
In HU-managed storage locations, materials can be managed in HUs only. Mixed stock (stock made up of packed and non-packed materials within the same storage location) is not supported. HUs can also be managed in interim storage types. Unpacking a material from an HU means that the stock of the material is posted to a storage location that is not HU-managed.
If you call up normal material movements in connection with an HU-managed storage location, a delivery is created, rather than a direct material posting, which has been the procedure up to this point.
Handling units are unique at client level in at least one system. Using an indicator at client level (see Unique Identification of Handling Units), you can control whether you are going to work with the HU functions. Since the handling unit is a physical unit, the central logistics processes are controlled through the input of the handling unit identification. These processes include putaway, picking, and stock transfers, as well as goods receipts and goods issues.
A handling unitu2019s mobility can be limited if quality checks are active. Changes in the stock category caused by a quality inspection are made using a posting change in the handling unit.
There is also a report available that you can use to find and display handling units using different selection criteria such as material, packing instruction, or storage location.
Although the handling unit is basically a unit that remains constant in the system, you can change it by repacking the materials it contains. All the packing functions, such as packing, repacking, and unpacking, are completely supported by the handling unit function. In this way, handling units can be created in production, during goods receipt, or in the packing areas of the warehouse. If you have automatic packing, the handling unit is created from the packing proposals defined in the system (from the packing instructions, for example).

Shipment cost information - handling units
Hello ,
( After reviewing notes 393849, 934370 , 746606 )
i have a problem with shipment cost information from sales
order ( VA02 ; VICI ) when the shipment cost is calculated according to handling units.
In our S.C.C regular scenario the shipment cost is calculated according to the packing materials in the shipment ( VT02 ) .
The pricing procedure includes the follwing condition records :
Condition y050 : Calc.type - S ( number of shipping units ) ;
Calc.base - C ( Handling units ) .
and a few conditions with the same definition as :
Condition y051 : Calc.type - S ( number of shipping units ) ;
Calc.base - '' ( ALL ) .
( in order to overcome regular S.C.C customization the above
p.procedure is determined in exit - shipment costing : configure
pricing - V54B001 - EXIT_SAPLV54B_001 ) .
After filling the necessary fields in VA01/VA02 such as Material , volume , weight , packing proposal and then executing the shipment cost information according to the planning profile we get error message
( VY-140 ) :
" shipment cost not saved because they contain no items " .
After debugging in - EXIT_SAPLV54B_002 : none of the handling units in VA01/VA02 ( packing proposal ) is transferred to pricing structure "KOMP" and therefore the shipment cost calculation is
not completed ( to my best knowledge . . . ) .
when proccessing the transactions online VA02->VL02N the packing proposal is transferred as expected .
any ideas ?

Handling unit creation in the out bound Process
Hi All,
If we are not activate Storage Unit management/HU management in the warehouse and still create HUu2019s during outbound process via packing transfer order? We donu2019t want to manage stock at SU/HU level but create handling unit for material during outbound process. Is it possible?
Please give me the suggestions.
Thanks
PrasadHi Prasad,
Yes it is possible. You will have to use handling units only as shipping units in the outbound delivery packing function. The handling unit can be defined during the transfer order confirmation (you have this in LT12 as packing) or in the delivery after the TO confirmation. You can only perform packing before goods issue.
I hope i'll helps you lot

Handling unit management rquired
Hi Friends,
How do we determine that we need to implement HUM with in four walls? What are the specific business scenarios that require the HUM to be implemented? is the HUM implemented at plant level or the storage location level ? Please provide some info.
ThanksHi,
you can activate HUM I) systemwide (TVSHP-EXIDV_UNIQUE). If you have HUM activated in your system, II) you can use handling unit managed storage locations (T001L-XHUPF).
I) If HUM is not activated in the system, the packing process takes place as in the former releases, before release 4.6C:
- packing object is called Shipping Unit
- packing is only allowed through delivery/shipment processing
- no chance to identify a Shipping Unit without reference to object (delivery/shipment).
HUM deals with all the packing processes
- links business processes across all logistics applications; logistics processes (goods movements) based on HU processing are easier, which in turn optimises all logistics operations; you track the movements of entire HUs and the materials they contain rather than tracking each material individually (simplified processing of material movements, which therefore optimizes the logistics processes)
- do not require a reference to a document and, in contrast to shipping units, are independent objects; you can identify an HU without reference to object (as they have a unique identification number)
II) Handling unit managed storage location:
- Handling Unit Management enables to control inventory management using packed stocks at storage location level.
- The guarantee that the total of all HU stocks is the same as the stock in the storage location, is only valid for handling unit managed storage locations.
- If you have HUs on storage locations that are not HU managed, you never know if the stock in the HU physically exists and if the stock information is still valid. There is no guarantee that the data is correct.
